I find there is a big difference with the Yogi movie which I feel people judged too harshly.
It was set properly in Jellystone Park, the only time Yogi wandered outside was only for a few minutes.
Sure it is childish, but it is a children's cartoon, the original stories gags were really just a one trick pony, stealing pic-a-nic baskets. The voice-overs were excellent and true to the original.
People complained about the human characters, but Ranger Smith is a main character in the original show so needed to play an equal role.
Also people hated the bad guy for being ridiculously silly, but it's no more ridiculously silly than any other Hanna Barbera cartoon bad guys which is the point. They are meant to be hammed-up.
I recently watched an episode of the old Yogi cartoons, and although I did quite enjoy it as a child, it felt a bit of a yawnfest this time around. The movie however I think they done it as good as they could make it. I enjoyed it
But with the new Smurfs movie, I feel there are going to be too many unnecessary changes made which made the original stories a worldwide hit. I hope they don't make the smurfs as light background comedy relief for the human characters that had nothing to do with the stories before. I would've much rather have seen Johan and Peewee in the movie, set in their original time.

It may be having anthropomorphic animal characters set in real-life settings, such as the Yogi Bear movie and the Garfield movies, that may have some people prefer them not to be CGI, or at least used in that particular context. At least the Smurfs can get away somewhat with their semi-realistic look because they are humanoids and not anthropomorphic animal characters.

Cheeky, I saw Yogi Bear with my friend, Thomas. But not everyone was impressed with this film, even if it's in 3D. If you don't believe me, just you wait till you see "Hop". 3D gigs in "Gulliver's Travels" (2010), "The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader", "Clash of the Titans" and "The Legend of the Guardians: the Owls of Ga'Hoole" can't be ALWAYS successful. Not even "Mars Needs Moms!". I am very worried about this movie becoming a flop, like other 3D movies. I was more interested in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" as Lena, my sister prefers "Inception" as an Oscar-winning hit, I was more into "Up", "Toy Story 3", "Harry Potter" and "Enchanted". Parents and teens just rather see "The Social Network", "Black Swan", "127 Hours" and "True Grit" (2010). And everyone would've pleased to see these movies. That's why I watch the wrong movies instead of proper adult movies about *** or violence, because I prefer children's movies for just this purpose. I have doubts about your opinion in changing "The Smurfs" from Medieval Europe to 21st Century New York., as well as forecasting the movie as a flop. Still, I will buy the "Yogi Bear" Blu-Ray / DVD combo pack for Easter this year, and we're gonna see "Hop". We're unable to see "Mars Needs Moms!" in 3D, because my Dad and I saw "Rango". But I'll try, flop or no flop. Even if the Oscars thinks it's ineligible for the Academy Awards.

New photo of the Smurfs: In this picture, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Grouchy and Gutsy are inside the newly opened package. It is 3 seconds of this before they freak out like when Elliot and E.T. freaked out from each other. See: "E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial" (Dir. Steven Spielberg, 1982)-- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083866/ I think in pictures on how when characters first meet each other, they would freak out. That's a movie or TV gag for some audiences. Enjoy the photo!!!

I also heard today that the anticipated Smurfs movie will have to move from August 3, 2011 to July 29, 2011. Because according to Animated Views.com, when the remade version of "Conquest for the Planet of the Apes" called "Rise of the Apes" starring James Franco (127 Hours), Tom Felton (Harry Potter 7), Frieda Pinto, Brian Cox and Andy Serkis as "Caesar" moved from Thanksgiving 2011 to August 3, 2011, the Smurfs will be no match for the revolt of the apes. Instead, it will compete against another anticipated Summer 2011 Blockbuster: "Cowboys & Aliens". http://animatedviews.com/2011/smurfs-arriving-sooner-than-expected/ http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=75619 Here are some images from "Rise of the Apes". Just seen the article about the date change on Digital Spy, so I sincerely hope this means the date change applies to the UK too. It's one thing that we were getting it on August 10th, a week after the states, but I'd hate to have to wait even longer if our date doesn't change. Why doesn't the US and UK get the same release dates for many films? It's not exactly helping to stop movie piracy, is it?

Well, not really, Rocker. Disney-Pixar's Up for example was released in America on May 29, 2009. The UK release date was October 9, 2009. Kung Fu Panda from Dreamworks was released in America on June 6, 2008, and in the UK in July 2008. Maybe it's the different movie dates for international audiences pending.

Well, who knows, Sassette, by the next couple months, you will see how the rest of the Smurfs: Chef, Greedy, Jokey, Hefty, etc. when the time comes (or will you find my storyboard handy when you search the commercial for the 2010 Smurfs Holiday plush. Then download it for all to see.).

Who's Panicky Smurf? I remember Scaredy from the episodes "The Smurf Who Couldn't Say No", "The Sky Is Smurfing" and "Bubble, Bubble, Smurfs in Trouble". ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

Panicky Smurf is another one of these new Movie Smurf characters (along with Gutsy Smurf) who gets into a hysterical panic in the face of danger, such as when Gargamel and Azrael invade the Smurfs' village. He is voiced by Adam Wylie. You won't find him in the original comics or in the Hanna-Barbera cartoons whatsoever. But he is similar to Scaredy Smurf, so there's a major difference or change in the series of Smurf Stories.

Hmm, I see. Thanks, Blue Tiger. In fact I had imagined Gutsy was the only one created specially for the movie. Scaredy himself could have been used since the movie organizers needed a Smurf who used to be afraid of everything and everybody. ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

I aslo dont get this: The film's North American theatrical release date was originally December 17, 2010 but it was pushed to July 29, 2011. It was pushed up again to August 3, 2011. On March 25, 2011, the release date was reverted back to July 29, 2011. In yahoo movies it said August 3rd. What's the real date? ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

Let us pray that the official date stays that way, as I feel that the changing dates may show that the live-action film will not be able to compete against other films.

Onesimos, I pray too that the Smurfs will either win the Box Office against the "Cowboys & Aliens" film. If this film is surpassed by "Cowboys & Aliens", then no other film will. Thank you for responding. My documentary will be ready during April 2011 on the release of "HOP". You will see how my documentary is made. Good night, everyone. Smurfy dreams.

Here's the new Gargamel book based on the Smurf Movie. It's called, "Behold the Power of Gargamel. It'll be released July 12, 2011. It comes with a 3D poster & glasses!
 Behold the Power of Gargamel
The book description... "Told through the perspective of the great and awesome Gargamel, this book recounts Gargamel's difficulties of being a sorcerer, and his evil plan to capture the Smurfs. But in order to capture the Smurfs he has to be able to see them! Readers will love the cool 3D glasses that allow them to see the Smurfs all while watching Gargamel stumble and fail to find them on each spread."
Buy the new Gargamel Book here.
What a fun idea for a book!
