Thanks for the update, wisesmurf. quote: what special features would you expect from a TV Show that was made in the 80's. It would be interesting to know!
I stand by what I said before; some games would be smurfy. And I would have liked to see some interviews with some of the people who helped make The Smurfs.

Wisesmurf, a good reply indeed. You answered all our questions about the episode spelling, subtitles and transfer quality (which is not so bad anyway).
And you do seem in the know about Magna Pacific, coming from Brisbane yourself (where they are based) I think I'm detecting an employee am I not? This wouldn't be a bad thing, it's great to see them following up and promoting releases to the community.
Is there any chance you could answer my specific questions raised though:
1. Where is the theme, why is it gone? 2. Why are the episodes in the incorrect order?

Or better still, can't you guys release season boxed sets instead, like the Flintstones series?

Papa Smurf, I live in Australia and I had a look at some animated DVDs today and the only one that gave any credit to the actors providing the voices was The Simpsons which mentioned the guest appearances. I looked at DVDs from a range of distributors not just Magna Pacific.

I might have to buy a Multi-Region DVD player to play these DVDs if I order it.
It stinks not being able to watch DVDs from other countries that use the technology differently from ours. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

I don't know about you guys, but here in Australia, all recent DVD players from around 2002 on seem to be region free, despite the region 4 labelling. If this isn't the case overseas, I'm sure you can pick up a no name brand player that does it all.

Hi swarlock!
Handy Smurf is 100% true to his name and totally right - many generic DVD players can be easily converted to "multi-region" players.
If you're in the US or Canada and are looking to buy a multi-region DVD player, here is some info:
1) Make sure the DVD player outputs both NTSC and PAL, and is also capable of actually converting PAL to NTSC.
2) Make sure the player is multi-region, but also capable of having the region "set" if necessary (for "RCE/REA" protected discs).
I've compiled a little list of suitable PAL/NTSC region-free players for sale - you can check it out here. The Cyberhome players described as "Plays PAL DVDs on NTSC TV!" are exactly what you want.
Hope this helps!

Hi Papa Smurf
You're very welcome Papa Smurf to my reply. I always rearing to help when and where I can.
I believe the credits were supplied by Peyo. Magna didn't alter the credits at all for Australian Distribution. Maybe you should try and contact Peyo.
As for the source material, I think you best contact Magna Pacific directly as they will be able to tell you exactly what format.
Hope I've been able to help Papa Smurf. Any other questions, just drop us a line. Glad to be of assistance.

Yes. I've pre-oredered it. I decided to get all three last week. They sent me vol. 2 so far. Vol. 1 is out of stock and needs to be ordered in. The start theme music isn't the original, but I guess the quality and colours are pretty good considering that these original ones looked a bit washed out when they played them on TV years ago.

Mom is bringing me back a Region Free DVD player for my TV. So now I can watch the videos. That of course includes the one that will hopefully be released this year here in The US. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Just bought volume 1. The reason it says "JOKEYS MEDECINE" papa smurf is because all the titles were re-done.

I am glad to see that some form of Smurf cartoons are available on DVD now, but I still am holding out for DVD season box sets that provide every episode of each season in chronological order.
Am I pipe dreaming here or do you think we will get something like this in the next few years? It seems to be that everything else is availabe on DVD these days. What the heck is taking them so long on this series????

I'd much prefer them in seasonal boxed sets as well. Most other shows and cartoon series seem to be released that way. Perhaps we'll be lucky and a major release by a major company will come out soon with heaps of added bonuses. Maybe I'm just dreaming as well.

Well I recently checked out Smurfs on Ezy DVD again and saw two new entries. Sad thing is, that these sound even worse than the previous releases, because they are single episode DVDs When will they listen to what the Smurf fans really want? Anyway check it out here. There's no info on it yet, so check back closer to the release date.

Does anyone know where these DVDs can be ordered in Europe? Even Amazon.co.uk does not have them!

These are Australian releases predominantly, so you'd probably have to order off Ezy DVD.

I'm really longing for dvd box sets containing the full series.
I think I'll have to wait for the Smurfs to see yet another revival in the uk for that to happen though.
Nice to see my fav blue guys on dvd somewhere though :-) And thanks for the info!!! If I get sick of waiting for my "dream boxset" I could order these. And with three out already, surely more will follow :-)

Wow, there are 7 volumes already! I agree that single episodes aren't really a good idea.

I've been ordering the Aussie dvds from HMV Australia
http://www.hmv.com.au/search/search.asp?referer=search&SValue=smurfs
The delivery is very quick to the UK and they work out very cheap for us because dvds are so expensive over here compared to the States and Australia. I don't have a region free dvd player (I'm hoping for one for Christmas!) but they do play on the computer because you can just set that to whatever region you want. I haven't had chance to watch them properly yet, but my kids have been watching them all and loving them!

OK, I just heard from the creator of the Smurfs on DVD petition that Hanna Barbera is supposedly going to release season sets of The Smurfs next year.

All us Smurf fans need to do is call/e-mail Waner Bros. or Hanna-Barbera and tell them that millions of Smurf fans want the 9 seasons of "The Smurfs" on DVD in the U.S. We need to stay on them. Call and e-mail every day.
