This is great news, I haven't heard of this until now. I would really REALLY love to own all of the Smurf episodes on DVD. There are so many Smurf episodes I have never seen, mainly the later seasons and some of the earlier seasons. Most of them I probably just don't remember. I only have a few tapes of the Smurfs, only two left from 1985 and 1986 and two that I recorded from syndication on Cartoon Network in 2002.
I just hope they restore all of the openings for each season like they had when each season first aired. Prior to the openings on Saturday mornings I remember they had a brief narration from one of the Smurfs telling us about "today's adventure with the Smurfs" while showing some clips of the upcoming episode. I hope they restore that as well to give us the same feel as when it first aired. One (or more) can only hope.

Earlier today, I wrote and sent a letter asking Warner Bros. if they could put "The Smurfs" on DVD.
Who knows? Maybe it will happen. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Has about the same chance as 3D Realms getting their proposed Duke Nukem Forever game for the PC finished and released.

That is a good review. My complaints, however, is the lack of the main theme song and that it hasn't been released in America. I'm more bummed that it hasn't been officially released in America. I wonder why they haven't released it here yet. Does anyone know if it will be making its way here soon?

I'm rather surprised that the distributors chose to "splice in" the modern-day Smurfs title logo in place of the original cartoon show's title logo.

I'm not buying the DVD collection, because Warner Bros. made an unsmurfy mistake! The actual number of episodes(and specials) is 421, not 334! 87 eps. are missing! So do something to fix this! I'll be waiting.
P. S. Go to TV.com and look at the episode guide for the actual list of the smurfs. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

I just got my copy of The Smurfs Box Set 1 (for USA and Canada) from Exposure Entertainment today from an eBay seller. I've only seen a few episodes of it, but like the foreign DVD issues of The Smurfs, they too have the alternate music and the spliced-in modern-day Smurfs logo in the intro sequence. I'll have a more detailed review of this when I get the chance of watching the discs in full.

Man, why are they changing the intro music like that? Just doesn't seem right to me.

Kinda weird Vic George, why would they change it up like that. Post a pic of the box when you can I would like to see it. I'd rather watch it on tv where its just like it should be!

Probably the only good thing is that the menu selection screens do NOT have Studio Peyo artwork, though the box label does use the original Peyo cover artwork from the trade paperback version of Romeo And Smurfette.

Both numbers are wrong. Smurfs was about 425 stories, compiled into about 262 half-hour episodes, a couple of specials, and a movie. Some episodes had two stories, some had one.
That "334" number is from those god-awful cheaply made bootlegs that claim to be complete, but are far from it. The "420" number is just the stories counted, not the full episode count.
TV.com is wrong. It's actually wrong on many shows. Remember that no official authority writes that stuff, it's a lot like wikipedia, where people just right down what they think. It's not necessarily factual or correct. There is no authoritative gatekeeper.
Just so you know.

What do you mean another year it's June already. They could have the first season out in January. That only 7 months away. Boy, I'm glad they decided to come out with Season Sets. I hate the Vol. Sets.

Who cares how many Smurfs espisodes there are. As long as they have them all when each Season Set comes out for the U.S. DVD's.

Well, I do care about all the eps. and speicals in all 9 seasons. I hope WB releases all 9 season and the movie The Smurfs and the Magic Flute in one big box set.
Hey Shane! Look at the smurfy bright side! At least they'll be released the same time as the new Smurfs movie comes out! Just hang on! ![[Happy Smurf]](graemlins/Happy_Smurf.gif)

They won't be all in one big box set until they finish releasing each of the seasons. That's the way it works with ALL television shows that come out on DVD. Each box set is a full complete season.
Star Trek the Next Generation did this, they came out with each complete season with a box set per-season containing 7 DVDs with four episodes on each. There are 7 seasons so there are 7 box sets and each one was released one by one as they finished each season. When they were done releasing all of the 7 seasons there were choices as to which season or how many season box sets you wanted to order. Then there is the choice to order ALL of the box sets at once all packaged together which is what I did for a discount deal that was running at the time.
I'm guessing the Smurfs will do the same, but I'm not waiting until they finish releasing each season before I get the DVDs. I didn't wait when they were releasing the Quantum leap box sets every six months or so until they were done releasing each of the 5 seasons. I got each season as it came out and that's what I'm going to do with the Smurfs.
I doubt they will release the movie with the box set because the movie wasn't produced by H.B., it was produced in Europe and dubbed to English, I think. So, you would have to get the movie separately.
As for the specials? I honestly don't know if they would include those or not.
In any case, I'm pretty certain each season will be a separate box set. All television shows do it that way. I for one don't mind, as long as they do it and we can get our hands on each complete season I'll be happy.

Shane you're right on the money here. The Flute movie is definitely not Hanna Barberra, it looks and sounds totally different than the regular Smurfs show. No way would it come out with the release of the normal Smurfs TV show seasons.
What TV show releases the specials along with the normal shows? No way would the Christmas specials or what have you come with Season 1 or 2 (whatever). I just don't see the specials being anything but one-offs.
amtraksmurf, it just ain't ever gonna happen the way you want it. Sorry but you need to let it go!

Okay. I'll let the decades old movie go, but I DO think WB WILL release the 6 specials along with the series, Or else it won't be complete. Our new member: lordsmurf, told me everything. Just have faith in yourselves!
Here's an example: I have a Thomas & Friends complete season 1 box set, and at the end(26 and finale) is a Christmas special.
I have faith that it WILL happen to the Smurfs series(with all 6).
So don't make me feel sad and depressed you guys! ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

I'm not trying to make you feel depressed, I'm just looking at things realistically. If they will release the specials with the sets or not we'll just have to wait and see. I for one think that would be awesome if they did, so we'll see.
