Sony has been going back and forth on whether or not to make a live - action 'traveling' movie, or to make a reboot. They WILL be making a reboot set in our favorite place - Smurf Village. HOWEVER the director, Kelly Asbury has stated due to the set back, the movie will be released internationally on August 5, 2016!! The USA should be seeing it in Summer 2016, hopefully July! She also states that the movie will be FULLY computer animated. This means it will be done in 3D CGI!
The Modern Day Smurfs finally stay hom3, in their own village.
But...the film still remains untitled!

That's still JUST a production drawing, NOT the final product.

Vic, we know. And that the final product shall become in 3-D CGI as usual. But one must admit the good old Peyo style is present in those works! I really enjoy the movie version tough I still prefer what was done to new Garfield TV show:
The Garfield Show - Intro
or to Peanuts Teaser Trailer for 2015. In other words, keeping their original style even in 3-D.

As detailed on this page, the phrase 'three apples high' is not meant to be taken literally:
quote: The original French comics actually use the expression "haut comme trois pommes", which simply means "small", and has nothing to do with apples. It is analogous to how the English expression "knee high to a grasshopper" doesn't actually have anything to do with grasshoppers (it is an expression about being very young). Regardless, Hanna Barbera turned "three apples tall" into one of the dominant phrases associated with the Smurfs. "Three Apples Tall" is now synonymous with "The Smurfs".
Still, as the director of the movie I suppose he can make the Smurfs any height he desires.

Smurfs 2 failed at the box office? Really? I don't see why. It was so much better than the first, and it was the first that was a major success. Doesn't make sense to me. I think 3 will be successful. Especially since it's going to be an origin story taking place in their own world.
I kind of expected Smurfs 2 to not do as well as The First movie. I did go and see it and it was okay.

*SNIP*
What are your thoughts on this? Personally I'm excited. Especially since this is going to be an origin story set in their time. I think it's great that it will be completely animated since we've already had two films in live action.
It's about time! Hopefully 2d animation will be used for this.

It's good for a production crew to be receptive of what the fans want, but there comes the point where the fans have to realize that they don't own the franchise, they don't have complete control of the production crew, and therefore they can't call the final shots of what goes into something that the crew is producing. If anything, the Culliford family most likely has the final say in what's going into the next Smurfs movie, and though we may not like what that final decision (and the final product) ends up being, we have to acknowledge where our limits are as far as being fans.
Bingo!
In fandoms I have been a part of there's that one group that feels a sense of "entilement" to demand companies do what they want just because they are fans.
If we're going to get behind this we have to stop thinking about what we personally would want out of it and meet halfway with our expectations.
Having it be fully animated in 2D is a big start.
