Looks like you got your wish Vic George, Quentin Tarantino is out as Brainy Smurf!!
On March 31, 2010 Sony Pictures Animation president Hannah Minghella said "There were conversations about it, but it didn't work out."
So who will be Brainy??

Good to know about that, Smurfy!! As I said before, Mr. Tarantino has not much to do with the Smurfs (unless Lord Balthazar would appear in the movie too...). I'm still cheering up for Danny Goldman, but if he isn't convoked, could it be John Turturro? ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

I think in 2006 or something, Danny Goldman ws on Robot Chicken, he did Brainy Smurf which is his smurf. Even on bluebuddies, it says he was on Robot Chicken. So why not go into the smurf movie

As long as Danny Goldman does NOT reprise "mother-smurfer" in any form in the movie, I'd be okay with it.

Of course he did it just for Robot Chicken, this was just a parody for adults only... ![[Happy Smurf]](graemlins/Happy_Smurf.gif)

Ok, but why wouldn't he just do Brainy's voice for the movie? Why doesn't everyone who is still alive from the smurfs show still get together to make it maybe their last and greatest performance of the smurfs?

Many of us wish it was just like this, GreenDay. The problem is the releasers seem to want only celebrities voicing the Smurfs. Besides Danny Goldman, I'd like Lucille Biss, June Foray and Frank Welker to do Smurfette, Jokey and Hefty again. ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif)

That is Hollywood for ya. It's no longer about talent, but rather names dollar signs. Sigh.

Principal photography started on March 26, 2010 in New York and as of April 6, 2010 production of the film has begun.
Also!! Looks like Saturday Night Live's Fred Armisen will voice Brainy Smurf.

Oh, I don't know this actor very well, Smurfy, but after seeing him I think he looks more suitable to voice Brainy Smurf than Quentin Tarantino!! And it's not just because of glasses, tee hee... ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Simply because not everybody had the greatest voice for a particular character, and besides some of the actors may not be able to pull off the same voices as they did 20-something years ago. Personally, I'd rather NOT have Lucille Bliss reprise Smurfette's voice, whether or not her character in the cartoon was given bad scripting to work with.

Here is an interview from MTV with Hank Azaria:
April 7, 2010
"The Smurfs" Star Hank Azaria Talks Gargamel Look And Voice
Shooting is underway in New York City right now for director Raja Gosnell's adaptation of the classic cartoon series, "The Smurfs". A pretty wacky cast has assembled for it, including Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, George Lopez… and legendary "The Simpsons" voice actor Hank Azaria, who will play Smurf arch-nemesis and evil wizard Gargamel. MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke to Azaria last night on the red carpet for "Date Night," which hits theaters this Friday, and, noting the actor's freshly shaved head, asked if we're looking at Gargamel.
"This is partially Gargamel," he said, indicating his newly hairless scalp. "This is for Gargamel; it saves me about an hour in the [makeup] chair." Okay then. Partial Gargamel. So what more do we add to the costume to complete the package? What does Azaria's evil sorcerer look like?
"It looks like the cartoon: he's got hair around the sides [of his head], crazy eyebrows, ridiculous teeth and a big nose. It's insane." Presumably the signature black robe is also somewhere in there. Sure sounds like it.
Really though, the most pressing question for a guy like Azaria is how he's going to play Gargamel's voice. The cartoon character has a very distinctive way of speaking. And Azaria… his voice acting chops need no introduction. Just a list of names: Moe Szyslak, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson, Cletus Spuckler, Professor Frink, Dr. Nick Riviera, Lou, Snake, Kirk Van Houten, the Sea Captain, Superintendent Chalmers, Disco Stu, Duffman… the list goes on. So where will Gargamel fall?
"Should I…" Azaria started, clearly considering. Wanting to share. "I don't know if I should reveal that." Pleeeeease! "No, I'm gonna save it. I've gotta save that. There was a lot of discussion of what the voice should be." Drat. Good to know there was a lot of discussion though.
We already know from the press release that the story follows the Smurfs as they evade Gargamel's pursuit by fleeing Smurf Village and somehow being transported to New York City's Central Park. Azaria confirmed that - "That is correct, yes. It is bi-location," he said. - but he stayed mum on other plot details, including what Smurfs taste like. Or even if he gets to eat one or two, as the cartoon character always wanted to.
"I can't reveal that." He did confirm what we'd previously heard about Gargamel's pet cat Azrael, that the same technology used to animated Odie in the "Garfield" movie would be used to bring the evil feline to life.
"That's also still up for–" he started. "I think a combination of everything you can do to make a cat come to life will be done with this cat."

On your toes as always, Smurfy!! Thanks a lot for the news!! I didn't know anything about this young actor, Anton Yelchin. I've just seen him on IMDB and read that both he and Walter Koenig, who was the first Chekov, are of Russian descent. Now I'm curious about knowing who should voice Vanity... I only hope "they" won't give him a new (gay) personality !! ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

Hank Azaria certainly looks like he's a good fit for Gargamel. All they need is the nose and the crown of hair to complete the image.
