It can be tricky knowing if a Praying Smurf is real or a fake!
Here are some tips to help make sure you don't buy a FAKE Praying Smurf & Praying Smurfette.
BASE COLOR: First, the raw or base color of the Praying Smurf should be red pvc (with the blue skin etc. painted on). And the base color of the Praying Smurfette should be pink. The fake ones are sometimes made out of white pvc. Some people also think that fakes have darker blue skin.
Raw Praying Smurf & Praying Smurfette (Rohlinges)
MARKINGS: Second, the "Made in Portugal" markings should be very crisp and clear. Many fake praying smurfs have blurry markings. This is a very easy way to tell if it is a fake. I don't know of any Praying Smurfs that were made in Macau or Hong Kong.
Third, some Fake Paying Smurfs are missing the injection mold numbers.
SEAMS: Fourth, watch out for rough seams. Many fake praying smurfs have rough seams, particularly on the faces. Also, the faces on the fakes are more narrow / smaller.
Praying Smurf & Praying Smurfette... Real or Fake?
There are new fake smurfs coming out every day. The more valuable Smurfs are always targeted. Be careful and use your best judgment!
