Yesterday on the UK Smurf Collector Club's Facebook there was a leaked promotional image for "Smurfs: The Lost Village" featuring two new female Smurfs alongside Papa Smurf and the gang. Today that post was taken down and I wonder if it's because the post shouldn't have been there. One of the folks at Sony Pictures Animation is now part of the group and maybe he said that post was a no-no.
Unfortunately the damage is done. Since last night I've been doodling away on what may or may not be two new additions to the Smurf family. I'm giving them the fan names Sunflower (Sunny) and Violet until their official names are released. A fanfic/fancomic story is coalescing too, with Grandpa, Hefty, Vexy and Brainy on an expedition to a jagged, stony mountain. Grandpa falls from a loose ledge, lands safely in a bed of flowers that seemed to sense his falling and rescued him, sprains his leg, and is tended to by Violet when he comes to. He discovers the so-called Lost Village, as do the other Smurfs in his group when they come down the mountain to search for him. Led by a female Smurf named Sophia (nicknamed Mama Smurf), the village refuses to let the visitors go out of fear they will be exposed to danger. When a wildfire threatens their village and the entire forest, both groups of Smurfs set aside their animosity to save each other.
I don't know who posted and took down that image on Facebook, but it put me on a creative hurricane that I can't stop!
Or, maybe that leaked image was a red herring.

I envision the Empath: The Luckiest Smurf animated series to be a cross of The Lost Village's kind of animation and the CGI from the Smurfs live-action films.

SMURFS STATUE INSTALLATION Two new friends are now welcoming employees and visitors to the Sony Pictures Animation campus: one-of-a-kind, five-foot statues of Papa and Smurfette were created by hand and set up last week under the supervision of Smurfs: The Lost Village character designer and in-house Smurfs expert Patrick Mate. He made sure the Smurfs’ eye circles were exactly the way they are in our fully animated film, and Papa’s brows positioned perfectly on top of his hat to reflect the brand new CG design of the characters which takes its inspiration from the original Peyo comic books. Papa and Smurfette now stand at the entrance of Sony Pictures Animation’s campus as a friendly, daily reminder of the fun new character design of our movie which is a complete departure from the look of the two hybrid Smurfs movies. Check back soon for updates on a brand new trailer debuting later this month!

Hey guys. You know that new Smurfs comics are coming out from Papercutz, right? Well, I heard that there's going to be a comic coming out on March 7,2017 that's about the Smurfs:The Lost Village movie. Here's what the stories will be about:
There will be a fun story about dragonflies in our SMURFS THE VILLAGE BEHIND THE WALL graphic novel. There are five stories in all. One about Clumsy Smurf, one about Hefty Smurf in a competition, another about a new creature called a Growler, and another right before the movie happens, and lastly, and a story about Brainy Smurf exploring the new village!
And there will be more news after the trailer comes out on 11/21/2016. Stay tuned for more news.

Check this out. I just found this on the production blog website:

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to discover first hand what goes on behind the scenes in animating a feature film like Smurfs: The Lost Village. Director Kelly Asbury will be giving a masterclass and participating in a panel with Production Designer Noelle Triaureau and Animation Supervisor Alan Hawkins this Saturday, November 19 at the CTN Animation Expo in Burbank, taking you into the world of the Smurfs - before it actually existed! Grab your tickets at ctnanimationexpo.com!
