Hmm, I am skeptical about the sequel. Sequels always tend to be worse than the original, however there are a few exceptions out there. First being Star Wars, most of the Star Trek movies, and Indiana Jones, as well as others.
So to say it is impossible to write a good sequel is not true. The director has the right intention, however I'm holding final judgement until I see the movie. What I have seen so far looks like a cute story, and the introduction of the new characters will be interesting to see if they incorporate Smurfette's "creation" story into it somehow as Gargamel made Smurfette bad, but Papa Smurf helped her become good.
I do hope there is a little nod to Johan and Peewit SOMEWHERE in the movie. Even if they are in a museum and they pass by a wax statue of them on display in the medieval section... (which would be AWESOME). What would be more awesome would be a wax model of King Gerard with a tiny replica of clockwork... but then that's a pipe dream.
Anyways, I hope the movie does well. I love the Smurfs, and I'm glad they are getting a long overdue reboot!

I've read the script and I just saw a bunch of footage from Smurfs 2, and I can tell you this...
People behind the scenes are excited about how well this film is turning out, and, in my opinion, it is MUCH better than the first one! That's saying a lot, because I really liked the first one. You guys are in for a treat ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Another great Smurf 2 Movie book - this one is called, "What It Takes to Be a Smurf". The 32-page book comes with stickers and punch-out, card stock Smurfs! Also to be released on June 25, 2013.
Don’t miss this heartfelt and hilarious take on what it takes to be a Smurf.
What It Takes to Be a Smurf
The Smurfs 2 is all about what it takes to be a family…and a Smurf! In this tell-all guide, find out how kindness, love, and trust, along with a few other ingredients, create a Smurf—and a family! Young readers can explore different sections, such as A Profile of Two Sisters, How to put on a Birthday Celebration—Smurfs Style, Looking Blue-tiful, and more. As Papa Smurf once told Smurfette, “It doesn’t matter where you came from. What matters is who you choose to be.”
And with punch-out, card stock Smurfs and a sheet of stickers, What It Takes to Be a Smurf is the book that every fan of the movie will want!

Yes, I must confess I feel a little apprehensive about this sequel, but surely I intend to watch it before doing some judgement too. I only hope there won't be any toilet humor - at least, the less frequently possible. When I remember that scene with Gargamel and the champagne bucket... ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

Are you swearing, squeaky?! Well here's my opinion on the sequel posted on facebook but please hold your horses before jumping to conclusions: One of peyo's that got the CG treatment it deserved...(Benoit Brisefer) Goddammit, sony how the hell you get your your ass kicked by some "amateurs" After watched this video for dozens of times it's clear that live action/CG was the worse decision for the smurfs movies. The element of surprise is gone and the smurfs 2 WILL not do as good as the first movie both critically and financially. Hate to say this as a smurf fan but really it have a very high chance of suffering the same fate as Alvin and the chipmunks movies. People grew tired of the movie risks so little to reaps the reward while behind the scenes live actors also grew tired with their imaginary actors. I'm still going to watch it anyway whether if the movie fails or not...(sigh) SPA...
2nd post: Don't look at me like that,BB i'm just saying that sony clearly knew that they can do better with all CG but then chose to go cheap (But expensive) and chose the worst method. Look at what they've done with Cloudy 2,brilliant i can't wait to see it and it coming right after my birthday!

Let me put it to you this way: if I had the choice of using all CGI or or a mixture of live-action and CGI for turning my Empath: The Luckiest Smurf novel into a movie, I would definitely choose the latter over the former as long as it's done top-quality and it meets according to the vision that I have set for the story and its characters.
And having just seen the Benny Breakiron cartoon show, I would only say that it works well within the context of the character. I just would rather not see a cartoon cat or cartoon chipmunks try to be placed in a real-world setting where they look so out of place in comparison to creatures that obviously don't exist appearing as realistic-looking CGI in a real-world setting.

The problem is it's not a seamless transition the technology isn't there yet. When you see there's something wrong you just simply remove it and tweak it anyway you want with everything in CG while you have to make do with the locations and actors that can't be tweak or the budget would go through the roof for set pieces. The movie industry tried that for many years now but it's clear that they still got a long way to make it look seamless. Look at the first Cloudy it used less budget than The Smurfs and it was a successful movie in its own right both financially and critically. There's a reason why Pixar makes most if not all of their movies and shorts all in CG. Don't get me wrong Live action/CGI movie some of them are great but to make a great one requires a lot of budget and when compared to CG like it's either tried too hard or didn't tried at all,the weakest link are the actors and locations once again. You GOT Sony Imageworks on your side for god sake! Maybe they need some advice from their gaming department at SCEA so they can see some light...

Lafig is 100% behind the Sony/Columbia films, and approved all decisions, so it wasn't just Sony.
A fully animated Smurfs film isn't out of the question. I seriously doubt Cloudy cost less than The Smurfs movie.
Smurfs 2, from what I've seen (and I've seen a fair amount of work-in-progress) is looking to be a better film than the first one ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Hmm,i can't really say much then... Then if it there's a possibility of the fully animated one then make it happen! (Well the trilogy ended of course) Lafig really is under big pressure of trying to please everyone and they knew it's impossible to do that but they still make it pass anyway?! Oh dear I'm playing with the higher ups right here, after all i'm just a tiny irrelevant smurf... One question,do you guys at SPA or whatever the company you work for do you think you guys got the skills to go up against Disney/Pixar studio i mean the full CG animated stuff?

If you like the quality of the fully animated films from Sony Animation (Hotel Transylvania, Arthur's Christmas, Cloudy, Surf's Up, Open Season), then yes. The story people for Smurfs are not the same as the writers for the others and Lafig takes a big role in story, but the level of visual quality would match any of any other Sony Pictures Animation projects.

Let face it, Kenner, Sony and everyone else who works on the Smurfs film had been approved by I.M.P.S Brussels and Lafig, and eventually become a box-office hit of Summer 2011, and everyone was happy. (well nearly everyone, but still)
I couldn't see anything to moan about the second movie yet, other than just seen the trailer. So what else can go wrong for everyone? ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)

I didn't moan about the 2nd movie I just here to tell there's clearly the better way to make it. Let's just say that i wouldn't rely on this live action/CGI method for too long if i were you. Don't worry about losing your audience i'm going to watch it anyway.
