I think it's the other way around, that Clockwork Smurf is what replaced the Benco bottle character, since in the next-to-the-last page of The Clockwork Smurf, there is an artwork shift between panels where what appears to be liquid coming from the fake Clockwork Smurf's hat that is poured out onto Papa Smurf's spoon ends up looking granular in the following panel.

You're correct, VicGeorge! I didn't express that very well. It was Clockwork that replaced the Benco guy. Whoops, sorry for the confusion. I was just meaning that in this comic it shows Benco instead of Clockwork - so we could compare the difference between the two comics.

If I haven't mentioned it before, the comic book version of Clockwork Smurf with the liquid-dispensing hat is what the cartoon show version of the character becomes in the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story "Monkey On Your Smurf".
