Yes, Squeaky Smurf, we wanted to give Brainy more personality and depth, since he was an important part of the core group in this film. It was fun to see how the development of the script progressed, and all the characters becoming more well rounded- actually closer to the character complexity found in the longer form Peyo books.

In original comics Brainy would get banged on his head (mostly with a mallet) every time he was lecturing the Smurfs, and in Hanna-Barbera cartoons he was usually "punished" with a tossing where he got upside-down. So that I imagine maybe things might be a little different for our dearest know-it-all blue friend. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

(Highlight text with mouse to reveal spoiler):
Brainy was still given the heave-ho when he wanted to make one long last goodbye before going into the portal back home.

Sony Pictures has decided to move forward with a sequel, setting an Aug. 2, 2013 release for "The Smurfs 2".

Can't wait in 2 summers time! Plus give me a Smurfs-Up on the Christmas spin-off special. And tell me if they will air it on TV (i.e. NBC TV) before it arrives in the Blu-Ray just like the Madagascar Penguins' Christmas Caper on the "Madagascar" DVD.

So far, there is no "Art of The Smurfs" book being developed. There is a World of Smurfs book that just came out 3 weeks ago, with one chapter on the movie.

Here are some details about the Smurfs' Christmas spin-off for the Blu-Ray / DVD release: Here’s what Kerner said about the 22-minute original movie being released on the DVD/Blu-ray:
“There’s a 22-minute original movie that we’re making right now with Image Works. It is all animated, that will come out—oh my goodness, the DVD comes out at Christmas! Imagine that. It is a Christmas-themed 22-23-minute piece that is just spectacular. One of the great conceits of it is that we enter—it’s a little bit of A Christmas Carol—we enter into the present world with the Smurfs that everyone will have known from our movie, the 3D photo-real Smurfs in a photo-real Smurfs village, the village that you all saw when you saw the film today. And then, when we go back, I don’t wanna give away too much, into Grouchy’s dream we’re now in the 2D world of the Smurfs, much more traditional in terms of what you would have originally seen in a Smurfs cartoon in that way, is a distant memory in that way, and then we go back into live-action again.”
This is going to be like the Kung-Fu Panda spin-off short: "The Secrets of the Furious Five". Here are some images from the special which first came as a bonus DVD for "Kung Fu Panda" double DVD pack, then on NBC TV on February 26, 2009, and then on its own solo DVD on March 24, 2009.

Will Gargamel be in the next film, or has it been decided?

Wow cool, thanks for posting and sharing your work. I saw the film, and was really impressed by how the animation stayed true to the designs but also did not ruin them by taking them too far out of their original idea.
I really liked the opening in particular. The stork scene, the fly over of the castle and valley, and the view of the infamous dam.
I also liked the nod to Peyo at the bookstore. It's so nice to see that.
Great film, and can't wait till it comes out on DVD!
