I fear watching this movie to hear how possibly filth-ified they're making the Smurfs talk.

I know. This is exactly what I feared they were going to do with this movie. Hopefully there won't be too much more filthy than what we have already been shown in the previews. The enchanted forest thing is a bit much, but if that's the worst line, I can look past it for the sake of the excitement of the rest of the movie. So far I'm still happy with the plot and direction of the movie. From what I've been reading and seen from the previews anyway. Two more weeks and we'll get to see it.

Well since I knew this movie obtained a PG rating here are some possible reasons: *** & Nudity EditHistory Maybe a kiss, but nothing bad.
Smurfette is played as a colossal flirt, but what else do you expect from Katy Perry?
Violence & Gore EditHistory scary magic, a smurf falls off a building, and one smurf gets run over by a car but doesn't get injured.
Profanity EditHistory No swears
Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking EditHistory None.
Frightening/Intense Scenes EditHistory Gargamel could scare some children.
The magic may be scary

There is a scene where Papa Smurf used a spear to pierce Gargamel's chest which will be considered violent, and in one of the clips, he talked about trapping the Smurfs' "happy, blue asses." Any scatological reference, such as the buttocks, would make the film PG-rated.

102 minutes long well for me it's shorter than i thought. I thought the smurfs must be around 114 minutes which i think a perfect length for this kind of film. About the same running time of Pixar's Ratatouille. It can be too short for me any movie that's below 110 minutes. And for that rating if in thailand it'll be rated G or General in thailand since we don't take movies that serious and maybe we only have rating system for tv shows and movies for only 4 years. (Rating for games just one year.) Can be a bit much for me to rated PG for smurfs.

What's Next for Smurfs when it arrives on Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray 3D and DVD? The Producer & Director Has the Answer... Director Raja Gosnell & Producer Jordan Kerner Talk SMURFS; Reveal They’re Already Writing the Sequel & the DVD Has a 22 Minute Original Christmas Movie
Earlier today, I attended a Smurfs movie presentation at Sony Studios in Culver City, California. While there I got to watch a number of clips (some were in 3D) and I watched an interesting and informative behind the scenes presentation by Sony Pictures Imageworks visual effects producer Lydia Bottegoni, visual effects supervisor Rich Hoover, director Raja Gosnell and producer Jordan Kerner. They explained the challenges of bringing Smurfs to the big screen and the technical hurdles they had to overcome. While I love learning about new movie technology, I know most of you just want to know about the footage. My quick answer is kids are going to love the movie and I thought the 3D looked great.
Shortly after the presentation ended, we went to a small conference room and we were able to conduct a small roundtable interview with director Raja Gosnell & producer Jordan Kerner. They talked about the challenges of doing a CG/live-action hybrid movie, how did they decide which Smurfs would come into our world, why NYC, how did Smurfs creator Peyo influence the movie, and why is Gutsy Smurf Scottish. In addition, they revealed they’re already writing the script for the sequel and the DVD/Blu-ray will be released this Christmas with an original 22 minute Smurfs movie with a Christmas theme. Hit the jump to watch the video.
Here’s what Kerner said about the 22-minute original movie being released on the DVD/Blu-ray:
“There’s a 22-minute original movie that we’re making right now with Image Works. It is all animated, that will come out—oh my goodness, the DVD comes out at Christmas! Imagine that. It is a Christmas-themed 22-23-minute piece that is just spectacular. One of the great conceits of it is that we enter—it’s a little bit of A Christmas Carol—we enter into the present world with the Smurfs that everyone will have known from our movie, the 3D photo-real Smurfs in a photo-real Smurfs village, the village that you all saw when you saw the film today. And then, when we go back, I don’t wanna give away too much, into Grouchy’s dream we’re now in the 2D world of the Smurfs, much more traditional in terms of what you would have originally seen in a Smurfs cartoon in that way, is a distant memory in that way, and then we go back into live-action again.”
Smurfs gets released July 29. Here’s the order of questions. Gosnell is on the right.
How do you creatively get ready to make a kids movie Why CGI/live-action? What are the challenges of hybrid films Why does Gutsy Smurf have a Scottish thing going on They reveal they’re already writing the sequel They talk about contemporizing the story and setting it in NYC How did Peyo’s original series influence the movie How did technology play into the formation of the movie. They talk about how Gollum and Avatar influenced the film Kerner is asked how does he have the time to produce movies and also be the Dean of a school Who picked the music and how does it play into the movie What extras will be on the DVD/Blu-ray. They reveal they’ve made a 22 minute new all animated movie with a Christmas theme. Comes out this Christmas They say the sequel stays in our world

The reason that I called Papa Smurf throwing a spear at Gargamel "wish fulfillment" is that it sounds exactly like something a fanfiction writer would have Papa Smurf do in a story regardless of how out-of-character that may seem. It calls to mind a Superman story published after John Byrne's reboot of the Superman mythos where Superman had to deal with Kryptonians in another dimension have escaped from the Phantom Zone and totally eradicated that dimension's Earth of all life by destabilizing the Earth's core. Before John Byrne's reboot, Superman would basically act in a way that avoided him killing even the most dangerous of villains regardless of how many people those villains have killed, even if said villains were at Superman's level of power. With the reboot, Superman couldn't put the Phantom Zone projector back together to put the villains back into the Phantom Zone, so he had to strip them of their powers with Gold Kryptonite (which had no effect on Superman since he was from a different dimension) and then fatally expose them to Green Kryptonite to stop them once and for all -- a decision that basically tainted the character in both the eyes of the readers and in Superman's own eyes. Comparing what Superman would have done prior to the reboot and what he ended up doing after the reboot, this could also be seen as some form of "wish fulfillment" for John Byrne or for readers who were sick of seeing the Phantom Zone villains always getting away with murder.
