Funny story. I had the same idea. Except mine takes place where Gargamel has basically become a Voldemort-type wizard and has killed/captured all the Smurfs and those who escaped were split into two groups - one group who decide to try and rebuild their village while the other group decided to become humans so Gargamel wouldn't find them. I'd focus on the Smurfs of the presents day for my idea as well, just so you know.

Wow, thats a smurfy idea. Except i don't think i want to make the smurfs dark, it basic idea and i actually have tried trying to produce smurf fanfiction known as the smurfs the next generation. Where baby is a young smurfling. Im working on the details. Thank you for your idea though. Also , Sorry if my name is different i lost my password to my other account.

I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned in Season 3, Episode 1 of the cartoon that the way Smurfs have kids is by a stork bringing them the kids. Since there's only one Papa Smurf, I think maybe one of the current generation of Smurfs would be the next Papa Smurf for all the new smurflings?

Hello, and welcome to the bluebuddies community, carport!
And yes I agree with you on the idea that one of the Smurfs might one day inherit the role of "Papa Smurf" (or "Mama" given the chance that the role may be passed to Smurfette, or in someone's fanfics, another female Smurf character)
The other part of my theory is that Papa Smurf had relatives and friends who, (after some terrible incident, or just out of pure curiosity of what's out there) left the village, found love... But eventually, when they had children, had to send them back to Smurf Village by stork... Reasons why? Still a mystery... And not a single one of our friends, the Smurfs, knows that they were adopted by Papa...

Back to the story, though...
BRAINY: Yes, Ariel... It really is good to be together after so long... And can you believe Papa Smurf chose you to be the next leader of the Smurfs?
ARIEL: No I can't believe it... *sighs and stares at the sunset* It seems so... So surreal...
BRAINY: *puts his arm around her* Thinking about the Red Hatting ceremony tomorrow?
ARIEL: What if I'm not the right choice for a leader, Brainy? I mean... As soon as the hat goes on my head... It'll be too late to turn back... Papa Smurf will be out on his way to smurf knows where and I'll be left alone with nothing but that hat... Having to learn how to lead an entire village of Smurfs...
BRAINY: *turns her towards him* But you won't be alone... I will be here for you... So will your brother, Clumsy... And Smurfette, and Hefty... You are going to be a smurftastic leader...

Brainy: The flowered one will do nicely... Now let's go! Papa Smurf is probably waiting for us!
*The two of them meet with Papa and he gives a long, detailed explanation of what will happen at the ceremony (just to save some time, we'll fast forward through all that, since you're going to see it later)*
Papa: Any questions about how this is going to go, Ariel?
Ariel: Yes, actually. Does the ceremony HAVE to be here, in the open? What if something happens and interrupts the event?
Papa: Don't worry about it, Ariel... There's going to be two hundred Smurfs in attendance... And ever since we met the girls of Smurfy Grove, we've all been learning some defense techniques... Everything will be fine.
Ariel: Ok, Papa Smurf... I trust you with this...
Papa: Good... Now smurf on over to Tailor and Barber Smurf. They've been working together on your look for the Hatting Ceremony...
Ariel: Yes Papa, right away...
~on the way to see Tailor and Barber~
Brainy: Ariel, are you smurfing okay?
Ariel: Yeah... Still a little nervous about this, though...
Brainy: I understand, Ariel... I'm a bit smurfy about it, too... Not because you're going to be the next leader, but because Papa's going to be leaving... And so will SmurfWillow...
Ariel: She is? I would never have imagined that she would leave... But who am I to smurf? I've been so nervous lately that I can't even tell the difference between when I'm smurfing a vision, or just having a bad dream, anymore...

Brainy: Don't you remember? The Red Hatting ceremony is tonight...
Ariel: So Papa Smurf sent me to get my new dress from Tailor and have Barber smurf my hair for tonight...
Clumsy: Oh yeah! I forgot that was today! I bet you're pretty nervous about it, right, Sis? I mean, being the leader of a village of TWO HUNDRED SMURFS! Wow! My head's smurfing in circles just thinking about it! And then there's that thing about Papa and SmurfWillow leaving right after the ceremony... Oh! Also what if something comes up and tries to smurf us... Remember what happened at you two's wedding?
Brainy: Yes, Clumsy... We get the idea...

Ariel: Hey Hefty...
Brainy: Hello, Hefty Smurf.
Hefty: Say, Ariel, you excited about the Red Hatting ceremony tonight? You're gonna be a smurf-tacular leader!
Ariel: A little nervous, actually... But I guess so...
Brainy: Hefty's right, Ariel. You are going to be a smurf of a leader.
Clumsy: Yeah! You're gonna be the best!
Ariel: Thanks, you guys... I promise I will do my best.
~they arrive at Tailor Smurf's mushroom house~
Tailor: Ah! There's our new leader! Are you ready to be fitted for your Red Hatting Ceremonial gown?
Ariel: I -- I guess so...
Tailor: Don't you worry about it, milady... I won't so much as smurf you with a pin...
Ariel: It's not that, Tailor Smurf... I'm just a little bit nervous about the ceremony, that's all...

Brainy: You already know that I'll be there for you, Ariel.
Ariel: Thanks, boys...
Tailor: Yes yes yes, you all are smurfing her with support... Now go on out of here so she can try on her dress for the Red Hatting...
*Brainy gives Ariel a kiss on the cheek before he and the other smurfs leave... Tailor Smurf goes to a wardrobe and pulls out a long red dress and another one of the same design, except green...*
Tailor: First, to figure out which color is best... I think we should go with the green, yes?
Ariel: Well, green is my color...

Tailor: Then green it shall be!
*Ariel steps in the changing room and comes out with the gown on and stands on Tailor Smurf's sewing table...*
~meanwhile, outside the door with Hefty, Brainy and Clumsy...~
Clumsy: I can't believe that this is the day...
*the other two smurfs look at him confusedly...*
Hefty: What do you mean by that, Clumsy?
Brainy: I think he means he can't believe this is the day we see Papa Smurf smurfing down from his position as our leader for good...
Clumsy: Yeah... That's what I meant...
Hefty: Yeah... You know, all this smurf about Ariel becoming the new leader of the village has got me thinking... What's going to happen to the rest of us? I mean, we never met anysmurfy from Papa Smurf's generation... What if they were banished from the village?
Clumsy: No way! Papa Smurf would NEVER do anything like that!
Brainy: And you know just as well as the rest of us that Ariel wouldn't either...
Hefty: I'm not saying that THEY would... I'm saying what if there's like, some kind of a CURSE on our village that we don't know about? You know, new leader, new beginnings... Meaning that everything from the past...
Brainy: Will be wiped out of existence...
Clumsy: But that would mean...
Brainy: No smurf will be left to help her...
Hefty: We won't be able to keep our promise to her that we'd smurf by her side through this...
Clumsy: You know what? I'm not sure if I believe that one... I mean, if it was true would we even have met Grandpa or Nanny Smurf?
Brainy: Hmm... Yeah, Clumsy, I guess you're right! And here, I thought I was the smart one... Hehehe...
Hefty: Hahaha... Ok, so I guess I was just a little bit too nervous about it... But I don't think anyone is as afraid about it as Ariel is...
Clumsy: Yeah... But I'm still wondering... Once Ariel's the leader, what are we going to call her?
Hefty: Good question, bro... I mean, we could call her Mama Smurf... But it just doesn't feel right... She feels more like a sister, or a cousin, to me...
Clumsy: It's even weirder for me because I'm her brother...
Brainy: And she and I are married, so it's just a little unsmurfy feeling for me...
Hefty: Maybe we can call her Princess, or Queen?
Brainy: She doesn't even like knowing that she's the lost princess of the fairies... Why would she want to be called one here?
*just then, Ariel emerged from Tailor Smurf's mushroom, wearing a long green dress that was beyond what words could ever describe... The three boys go instantly silent and Brainy acts as if he had fallen in love with her all over again*
Ariel: Why not just call me by my name? *grabs Brainy's hand and nearly drags him away* Come along, now Brainy, Papa Smurf said I also had to go to Barber's before the ceremony tonight...

*Ariel stands up and gives Papa Smurf a quick hug*
Ariel: I'm doing okay, I guess...
*she sighs and sits back down, Barber Smurf returns to work on her hair...*
Papa: What's wrong, Ariel?
*Ariel remains silent, now... Brainy sits down beside her and grabs hold of her hands...*
Brainy: She's worried about tonight's Red Hatting Ceremony, still... To be smurfily honest, I'm a bit unsmurfy about it, too...
Ariel: I'm mostly worried because I don't know how to lead an entire village... And then there's the whole thing about it being in the same place as mine and Brainy's wedding was supposed to be, before the attack...
Papa: It's okay, Ariel... If you want, I'll stay here for a few days after the ceremony, teach you all the ins and smurfs of being a leader... Sound smurfy to you?
Ariel: Sure, Papa Smurf...
Papa: Good. Now, you hurry up... You don't want to be late for your own party! *he exits*
Barber: Ah! I've just finished the final touches on your hair! Just in time, too! What do you think?
*Ariel looks in the mirror... Her hair is put halfway up in an elegant braided bun... She smiles and returns the mirror to its place on the stand*
Ariel: It's lovely... Thank you, Barber...
*she takes Brainy's hand and the two of them step outside and begin to walk to the Great Oak*
Brainy: The Red Hatting Ceremony... I never thought I'd get to see one... You will be a smurfily superb leader, Ariel. I'm sure of it...
