This is a song from the album Jump Up! in 1982 and it reached number 13 in the US single chart. This is about John Lennon who was murdered by an obsessed fan in front of his apartment in New York City back in 1980. Elton John & his lyrics partner Bernie Taupin wrote this song to him in memory. He and Elton were friends around that time and they have performed a song together called Whatever Gets You Thru The Night. John also sang Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds with his band The Beatles which Elton John recorded this cover as a single in 1974. A music video for Empty Garden features Elton sitting at the piano with a mock-up of the Dakota building's drive-up entrance door where Lennon's murder took place.
