I just thought that it would be interesting to hear what holidays you all celebrate. In New Orleans, Louisiana we celebrate something that you might have heard of called Mardi Gras (Pronounced Marty Graw)where we go to parades where they throw out colored bead necklaces, give out king cake (a cake with white frosting, purple green and gold colored sugar sprinkles, and your choice of a filling. Mardi Gras is mostly celebrated here but they do celebrate it a little in Alabama and I don't know about other places. In Mardi Gras some people wear funny masks and hats. You can find more about it by searching on the computer.
By the way, Mardi Gras is February 18, 2012.
I LOVE MARDI GRAS!!!!!!!!!!
I'll tell you more of the holidays later.

Cool Smurfette. The only thing on your list that I don't celebrate is Sir Edmand Hillary day. I don't even know who he is. Could you please tell me who he is?

Sir Edmand Hillary was the first person to reach the top of Mt. Everest (the highest mountain in the world, based in Nepal)! He was a New Zealander so you can understand why us in New Zealand celebrate it!

**taps chin** If I recall Mardi Gras is the celebration up to the beginning of Lent. It is part of the Christian holiday or (holy day) ecumenical year. I don't celebrate Mardi Gras to the extent as people do in New Orleans although I do know it is celebrated elsewhere around the world, and is known as Carnivale which culminates with Fat Tuesday the day before Ash Wednesday.
The Usual Holidays we celebrate are: Christmas, New Years, and Easter
Some family Holidays: Thanksgiving Boxing Day Guy Fawkes Night St. George's Day St. David's Day 4th of July Memorial Day (Race weekend for Indiana people) Summer Bank Holiday (labor day)
Birthdays of course and Anniversaries.

I don't celebrate most of those holidays except for 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Thanksgiving. It's really cool that we're all getting a chance to learn about holidays in different places. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

I'll tell you more of the holidays later.
The first Mardi Gras parade in my area is tonight. It is called Krewe of Cleopatra. My favorite is Krewe of Alla. The reason why is for 2 reasons, one is that a couple of hours before Alla my whole family gets together at a person's house (it's always the same person) and we eat lunch before going to the parade. Second is because, I went to real school (not online school) for Pre-K to First Grade and in that amount of time I'd made one friend. Every year at Alla I get to see my friends. I am really excited. I love Cleopatra too, because my grandma used to ride in it every year until around 2009 or 2010.

We have many holidays in Thailand but here's my list: Songkran Festival (water festival both modernized and traditional style) Father's day Mother's day children's day (i'm always young at heart so that's totally fine) christmas day New year eve Smurfday of course! Other holidays weren't meant to celebrate like many religious holidays, political holidays i hang out at my house the rest of the day,no celebration.
