Here's one of my older Empath: The Luckiest Smurf stories that's basically a play based on the Biblical story of Esther. Enjoy! ----- Chapter 1
Empath's personal journal.
It is the day of yet another theatrical production that Poet and Narrator had put together based on a story from Tapper's holy book. This time it is based on the story of Esther, a brave female character whom both this smurf and Smurfette admire for her bravery. Again Smurfette has to play three different female character roles, which includes her role as the lead character Esther. This smurf is chosen to play the king of Persia who decides to make Esther his queen, so there is a bit of a romantic element in this story that makes this smurf's role the envy of all the other Smurfs who wanted to have a lead role beside her. The other actors were chosen for their appropriateness in the roles that they were given from their auditions. This smurf does sense a bit of anticipation as we have put in a lot of practice to make sure our lines are delivered perfectly, but this smurf feels some certainty that this will be a flawless and entertaining performance.
...
Every Smurf was gathered around the Smurf Theater as Orbit conducted the Village Smurphony Orchestra in some appropriate opening music for the presentation that was about to begin. Meanwhile, behind the curtains, every Smurf was getting ready for the play to start. Carpenter was making sure that all the stage sets and all the props were functioning properly, and Tailor was making sure all the costumes made for the actors would fit perfectly.
Empath was with Smurfette as they were dressed up for their roles at the start of the play. "So what do you think of my costume, Empath?" Smurfette asked as soon as she appeared from behind the dressing divider. "Doesn't it make me smurf like a queen?"
"This smurf remembers you talking about the time that you were made queen for your birthday, Smurfette, and that the day somehow lasted a bit too long for everybody's liking," Empath said.
"It makes me wonder how Princess Guinevere is smurfing now that she is married to King Gerard," Smurfette said. "It's been a year or so since we've smurfed their wedding and we haven't smurfed anything from the Clockworks."
"This smurf also wonders about that, but if they are truly happy with each other with Guinevere being his queen, then we should be happy for them as well," Empath said.
"I still feel sad for Prince Theodore, though, that he still hasn't smurfed someone else in his life to marry now that he knows what Lady Jasmine really wanted him for," Smurfette said.
"This smurf is sensing that you would give up being a Smurf if that would somehow make him happy again, Smurfette," Empath said.
"I can't help thinking of him, Empath, ever since we smurfed into each other," Smurfette said. "I would smurf anything in the world just to make him feel like he's worthy of being a king."
"The village would miss you if you ever decide to become a human for the sake of being with Prince Theodore forever, Smurfette, though this smurf honestly would feel your absence the most," Empath said.
"I would miss everybody here too, including you most of all, Empath," Smurfette said as the both of them embraced each other.
Papa Smurf soon appeared in the costume of the character Mordechai. "I hope that I'm not catching you two smurfing things that should only be smurfed in marriage, my little Smurfs," he said to both Empath and Smurfette.
"We're just smurfing a friendly embrace with each other, Papa Smurf," Smurfette said.
"But it does feel like this smurf is being married to her twice in a row, with her first appearing in the story as Queen Vashti and then her appearing as your character's cousin Esther," Empath said.
"Well, at least I won't have to smurf a silly wig like I did with the story of Joseph, Empath," Smurfette said.
"Indeed Handy has smurfed a good job installing the Imaginarium crystals into the theater, so that making you smurf as three different female characters in the same story will be a smurf of cake," Papa Smurf said.
"That's the last thing I want to smurf about...my third character as Haman's wife," Smurfette said as she rolled her eyes at the thought of who's playing Haman.
"Hello there, my fellow Smurfs," Brainy said, as he appeared in the costume of his character Haman. "I can't wait to be smurfing on stage to show how excellent an actor I really am compared to the other Smurfs in this presentation...well, besides you, Empath, and besides you, Smurfette, whom I smurf the pleasure of smurfing next to."
"You do know that you're playing an evil character, Brainy, and one who wants to destroy Mordechai and his people because he refuses to bow down to you," Empath said.
"Yes, well, I certainly don't expect Papa Smurf to bow down before me and declare that I'm a genius and the most intelligent Smurf among all my peers, Empath," Brainy said. "I have all my fellow Smurfs to smurf the job because they are the ones who are going to answer to me someday."
"That will be on the day when pigs fly, Brainy Smurf," Smurfette said.
"Oooh, that makes me wish that I was smurfing the part of King Ahasuerus and not his adviser," Brainy said, sounding a bit irritated.
Empath snickered. "This smurf is certain that you will have your day as a very important Smurf in the village sometime in the future, Brainy. For now, though, your importance is needed to portray a character who will be instrumental in bringing about a change in the kingdom that the story takes place in."
"But why is it that I have to smurf the villain?" Brainy asked.
"Basically because villains do bring about change to the way of life in people's lives, even if we don't want that life to change, Brainy," Empath said. "You wouldn't be the Smurfs you are today if it wasn't for Gargamel having to enter into your lives like he did."
"I would have to say that's very much true, Empath, since the mark of one's Smurfiness cannot be truly tested if there isn't an adversary that one can test their Smurfiness upon," Brainy said, realizing it for himself.
"Places, everyone, places," Narrator said. "The play is about to begin."
...
Then the music stopped as Tapper made his appearance and the audience applauded. "Greetings, my fellow Smurfs, to the play that will be presented today by the Smurf Theater Players, called Queen Esther. We hope that you will enjoy the show and that it will educate you about important lessons that the Almighty has smurfed upon me to share to you through this production."
"Is this going to be another story from your holy book, Tapper?" one of the Smurfs asked.
"As a matter of fact, it is," Tapper answered. "And while neither Poet nor Narrator are believers in the Almighty, they have been fascinated enough by the smurfing of the story that they decided to smurf ahead with the production of this play so that you might smurf for yourselves why this is so important."
"Well, let's smurf on with the show already," another Smurf said, sounding impatient, with the other Smurfs joining in the same sentiment.
Tapper chuckled. "All right, all right, my fellow Smurfs. I need not bore you with any more details about the play. Narrator, the smurf is all yours."
Tapper left the stage and the audience cheered as Narrator took his place. "Thank you, Tapper, for the introduction. Now our story begins in the kingdom of Persia, in the citadel of Susa, where the King Ahasuerus rules over the people. He has been smurfing a feast in his grand palace for the men to attend, and it was on the night of the feast where the fate of a young girl's life would be changed forever."
And as the curtains parted, Empath in the role of the king was seated with a few royal guests on one side of the stage, enjoying the festivities taking place while drinking their favorite beverages.
"Well, noble princes of Persia and Media, what do you think of the riches and the wonders of this smurf's glorious kingdom, not to mention this smurf's excellent majesty?" Empath as King Ahasuerus asked those gathered around him.
"Ah, your Majesty, you are all powerful, as your kingdom has smurfed from India to Ethiopia, and you have excellent taste in food and drink, as well as an eye for beauty," one of the princes answered with fawning praise.
"Speaking of beauty, how is your beautiful queen Vashti?" another prince asked.
"Will our eyes behold the beauty of your queen Vashti?" a third prince asked the king.
"Well, why not?" Ahasuerus said. "This smurf is the king, and this smurf's word is law. Tonight you shall have a feast for your eyes." He then turned to his loyal advisers. "Go, bring my queen out here and have her wear the royal crown, so that all may look at her tonight."
"Yes, my king, it shall be done," one of the advisers said, bowing respectfully before the king.
The advisers walked to the other part of the stage, where Smurfette appeared with brunette hair as Queen Vashti and was holding a feast of her own for the women. "Yes? What does my king want of me tonight?" Vashti asked as soon as the advisers appeared.
"Your king commands that you appear before him and the princes smurfing your royal crown, so that all may smurf on your beauty, my Queen," one of the advisers said.
"My beauty?" Vashti said, sounding rather disgusted. "I am not a Smurfette to be paraded around as if I'm an object to be smurfed at. You smurf word to the king that if he wants to smurf at my beauty, he can do so privately. Is that understood?"
"Yes, my Queen, we will smurf word to him immediately," another adviser said, sounding a bit fearful as he and the other advisers left the queen's feast.
They returned to the side of the stage where King Ahasuerus was holding his feast and whispered in his ear the queen's response. "What?" the king said, sounding exasperated. "She refuses to come at my command?"
"It's true, your Highness," one of the advisers said.
"What shall we smurf with Queen Vashti if she refuses to come, my lord?" another adviser asked.
"She has not only wronged the king, but also all the rulers, and all the people who are in all the provinces of your kingdom," a third adviser said. "For the queen's behavior will become smurfed to all women, so that they will despise their husbands in their eyes, when they report, King Ahasuerus commanded Queen Vashti to be smurfed in before him, but she did not come. And this day the noble ladies of Persia and Media will smurf the same to all the king's officials, when they have heard of the behavior of the queen. Thus there will be more than enough contempt and wrath."
"I have a solution, your Highness," the adviser named Haman said as soon as he appeared onstage. "If it pleases the king, let a royal decree smurf out from you, and let it be recorded in the laws of Persia and Media, so that it shall not become obsolete, that Vashti shall smurf no more before King Ahasuerus; and let the king smurf her royal power to another woman who is better than she. And when the king's decree which he will make is proclaimed throughout all his empire (for it is great), all wives will honor their husbands, both great and small."
"Yes, you are right, Haman," King Ahasuerus said, sounding like he was in agreement. "Have letters sent throughout the entire kingdom to let it known that, from this day forward, Vashti shall no more be queen, and that a new queen shall be selected to take her place in my kingdom, and also that all wives shall respect their husbands no matter what."
"Of course, your Majesty...I'll get it smurfed right away," Haman said, bowing before the king before he left the stage.
Then guards were sent to the other side of the stage and grabbed Vashti by the arms. "What is the meaning of this?" Vashti demanded. "I am your queen!"
"Not anymore, Vashti," one of the guards said. "A royal decree from the king smurfs that you are to no more appear before him as queen, so you will be escorted out."
Vashti struggled uselessly against the guards as she was dragged off the stage. "Well, this is what I get for smurfing up for myself and my dignity in this kingdom!" she fumed.
...
"And so from that night on, Vashti would no more be queen of Ahasuerus' kingdom," Narrator said after the curtains closed for a scene change. "A command was then given to smurf for fair maidens that would be chosen to smurf Vashti's place as queen. It was during the search that a young woman by the name of Hadassah, also known as Esther, was being raised by her older cousin Mordechai, who had smurfed her as his daughter since she lost her parents as a child."
The curtains opened, and it was now the inside of a humble house in the citadel of Susa, where Smurfette now appeared with her normal hair color as the character Esther, and Papa Smurf as the character's cousin Mordechai.
"Cousin, you seem so upsmurfed," Esther said as Mordechai approached her. "What is the matter?"
"The king has issued a command that a fair maiden will be chosen to replace Vashti as his queen, my dearest," Mordechai answered. "I have a feeling that you may be the one who will become that queen."
"But how can I become queen, when I am a Jewess?" Esther asked.
"You need not tell them, least of all the king, what family or people you smurf from," Mordechai answered. "But if you are chosen, you will be very important to all of us. Whatever you do, you must be obedient to the king in everything that he smurfs of you, except where he may ask you to smurf something against your own faith."
"I will not forget the lessons from the Torah that you have smurfed to me, my cousin," Esther said.
Then there was a knocking on the door. Mordechai answered it, and saw that it was the king's guards. "Is there a fair maiden that smurfs with you in your household, Mordechai?" one of the guards asked.
"Yes, there is," Mordechai answered. "This is my younger cousin Esther, whom you may present before the king."
The guards took a look at Esther as soon as she was presented. "Yes, you will smurf very nicely," the guard examining her said. "Come with me...you will join the other maidens in the preparation ceremony."
"Please, one minute before I go," Esther requested. She embraced her elder cousin, feeling tears coming from her eyes. "I don't want this to be a goodbye, but I must do what the king smurfs of me."
"Just remember that the Lord will be with you wherever you go from here, my child," Mordechai said while they were still embracing. And then shortly after, the guards grabbed Esther and escorted her off the stage.
And alone on the stage, Mordechai sang:
I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help. My help comes from the Lord, the Lord who made heaven and earth. He said He will suffer your foot, your foot to be moved. The Lord that watches you, He will not slumber nor sleep.
Oh, the Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your strength, Upon your right hand, upon your right hand. Oh, the sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. He shall preserve your soul, even forever more. My help...my help...my help...all of my help comes from the Lord.

Chapter 2
After the applause and Papa Smurf left the stage, the curtains closed, and Narrator appeared on stage again. "So it was, when the king's command and decree were heard, and when many young women were gathered at Shushan the palace, under the hand of Hegai, that Esther also was taken to the king's house, into the hand of Hegai the custodian of the women."
Smurfette appeared on stage again as Esther, this time surrounded by nine other male Smurfs who were dressed as female Smurfs. Smurfette could see they were having a hard time trying to walk around in the shoes they had to wear in the parts they were playing, as the king's candidates.
"Oh, I hope that it's going to be me smurfing beside the king on his throne," one of them said.
"Or me, since I am the fairest of all the virgins," another said.
"You the fairest? Oh, don't be smurfdiculous! There's no virgin more fair for the king to behold than I am," a third said.
And so the conversation continued until Vanity, who was playing the part of Hegai the custodian, appeared. "All right, you ladies, let's get smurfed together here," he said. "I will be smurfing in charge of all of you, preparing you to smurf your best before the king smurfs you, so don't any of you be smurfing things that I wouldn't recommend." He saw one of the virgins taking a pastry from the table and then went over and curtly slapped the virgin on the wrist. "And that smurfs double for you! Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, Master," all ten of the virgins said.
"Boy, that Hegai is such a tough smurfmaster if he's in charge of us," one of the virgins said.
"Can you blame him?" another virgin said. "He smurfed most of his life as a eunuch before the king."
"You mean that he can't even...?" a third virgin asked.
"Especially not that!" the second virgin answered.
As the nine virgins made their way off the stage, Hegai went over to Esther. "You smurf to be different from all the other virgins," Hegai said. "I see that we're going to smurf along rather famously, and I think you're going to be the one that will smurf the heart of the king."
"But why specifically me?" Esther asked. "What is so special about a simple maiden such as I am?"
"I just smurf that feeling about you," Hegai said. "Now it is true what the virgins say, that I am a eunuch, but that doesn't mean that I can't smurf love for any of the beautiful maidens. It's just that I can't...um..."
"You don't need to say it," Esther said. "I understand that you won't be able to smurf a family in the future."
"Such sacrifices had to be smurfed, my dear," Hegai said. "But don't worry; I'll treat you like you were my only daughter, and those other maidens...like your cousins. We'll all be one smurfy family together."
"I still think of my cousin Mordechai," Esther said. "He must be wondering what's going to happen to me now that I'm in the king's palace."
"I'm sure that the two of you will smurf each other again soon, I promise that," Hegai said. "Now come, let's get you settled in and we can get started on smurfing you into the next queen of our beloved king."
...
After Hegai and Esther left the stage together, Narrator came back on to continue the narration. "Now after Esther and the virgins after she had completed twelve months according to the regulations for the women, for thus were the days of their beautification accomplished -- six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women -- it was their turn to go into King Ahasuerus' bed chambers. Now all this time, Esther had not revealed her people, for she was instructed by her cousin Mordechai not to do so."
The curtains parted and the spotlight shone on Esther and Hegai, who reappeared on stage with Esther wearing an elegant dress with her hair styled differently. "So how do you feel, knowing that this is your first night with the king?" Hegai asked.
"Radiant...although I feel a bit nervous," Esther answered. "What if the king doesn't like me? What if he doesn't approve of me?"
"Oh, nonsense, Esther!" Hegai said. "You are the one whom I see destined to be queen, and you will smurf fine as long as you know what you must smurf when you are with the king. But just to make things even more perfect for that night, here...let me adorn you with this." He took out a necklace that looked like it was made of gold with a pendant that resembled a dreidel, and placed it around Esther's neck. "There...now you look perfect. Now go...and don't worry about anything, because this night is your night, my darling."
"Thank you, Hegai, for everything," Esther said. After Hegai left the stage, the spotlight followed Esther until she came to what would be the door to the king's bed chamber and knocked.
"Who is it?" the king asked.
"Uh, it is Esther, your humble servant, your Majesty," Esther answered.
The servants went to the door and opened it. Esther stepped through and saw King Ahasuerus sitting on a royal bed, with a tray of various delights by his side. "Come and smurf by my side so I can know you better," the king invited.
"Do I look pleasing to you, your Majesty?" Esther asked, sounding curious.
"You look just like what I imagined you to be, my dear," the king answered, sounding pleased.
Esther sat by the king on his bed as he continued to look at her. She tried to remain as composed as Hegai taught her to be, though the audience could see that she looked a bit nervous.
"Take a look outside my window at the kingdom that I reign over, my dear," the king said, directing Esther's attention to the scenery outside one of the windows of his bedroom. "The scope of my kingdom runs through 127 provinces, from India to Ethiopia. There isn't anything in it that escapes my notice as king. Whenever a group of people in my kingdom isn't happy, then I'm not happy, and I seek to make changes that would benefit all people in my kingdom, as long as they obey my commands."
"That's a lot of people to smurf in charge of, my king," Esther said.
"That's where you as my future queen get to reign over beside me, as long as you are able to please me," the king said. "The previous queen Vashti wasn't the type who pleased me at all. She thought too much of herself and her own pleasures as queen, and cared very little about the welfare of her subjects. I loved her, hoping that someday she would change, but she hasn't, and the last time I called for her to come before me, she refused."
"That's sad that you had a queen that didn't respect you as king, my lord," Esther said. "I would do anything to please you, even this very night."
"I can sense that you would, my dear," the king said. "Somehow the gods of the Persians and the Medes have given me insight over all my prospects for the title of future queen...and I believe they may have you take the role. I'm not saying that you have to love me. I'm just saying that's what it's all leading me to, is you being queen beside me."
Esther looked at the king and nodded. "I would be willing to be queen beside you and do whatever you say, my lord."
...
As the spotlight dimmed and the curtains closed, Narrator appeared on the stage again. "So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal house, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. And the king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his presence more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti."
Then there was a sound of horns, and the king and Esther appeared on stage together, with Esther now wearing a royal crown on her head. "Ladies and gentlemen of my kingdom, it gives me great pleasure to announce that Esther is now my new queen," the king said. "In honor of the occasion, I have made a great feast that shall be called the Feast of Esther, and thus this day shall be made a holiday for all the provinces in my kingdom."
A crowd of Smurfs by the sides of the stage cheered and shouted, "LONG LIVE KING AHASUERUS!!! LONG LIVE QUEEN ESTHER!!!"
Among them in the crowd was Mordechai, who was watching the scene with tears in his eyes. "Oh, blessed be the Lord that He has smurfed Esther upon the throne beside the king today," he said, sounding pleased.
But then, beside him, he heard two Smurfs talking with each other. They were Bigthan and Teresh, the doorkeepers. "Look at that king, with the new queen beside him," Bigthan said. "Who does he smurf he is?"
"Yeah, even after smurfing Vashti out of the palace," Teresh said.
"The first chance we get, we're going to smurf the king when he least expects it, and his new queen as well," Bigthan said.
"Oh no! I've got to warn Esther, and have her smurf the king," Mordechai thought aloud.
After the crowd dispersed, Mordechai met with Esther alone. "I'm glad that you came to smurf me become the new queen, Mordechai," Esther said. "Are you pleased with me?"
"Yes, my dear, I'm very pleased," Mordechai said. "But there's something very important that I want you to smurf to the king about."
"There is?" Esther asked. "What is so important?"
Mordechai signaled for Esther to lean closer so he could whisper what he had to say in her ear. Esther nodded and then headed straight for the king.
"Why, Esther, I am honored to have you smurf before me," the king said after Esther greeted him with a curtsy. "Is there something you need to tell me?"
"Yes, my king, there is," Esther said. "There is a report from Mordechai, who sits at your gate every day, that Bigthan and Teresh, your doorkeepers, are plotting to smurf you and me when we least expect it."
The king looked aghast. "Are you certain that this is true?"
"As my lord the king lives, it is definitely true," Esther replied.
"GUARDS!!!" the king shouted.
Two Smurfs dressed as guards appeared before the king. "Yes, your Majesty?" one of them said.
"There is a report about Bigthan and Teresh plotting a conspiracy against me that needs to be investigated and taken care of as soon as possible," the king ordered.
"Yes, my king, right away," the guards said as they hurried offstage and then later reappeared with Bigthan and Teresh being herded away with halberds pointed at them.
"This is an outrage!" Bigthan said.
"Yeah, we demand to smurf a fair trial!" Teresh said.
"The only 'fair trial' you two are getting is to be smurfed on the gallows together for conspiracy against the king," one of the guards said.
"Get smurfing, you two," the other guard said, poking one of the two criminals in the behind with his halberd.
...
After they have left the stage, Mordechai appeared again with Esther. "I trust that you still haven't smurfed the king your true heritage since you are now his queen," Mordechai said.
"I haven't smurfed anything to him about it yet, nor do I intend to, Mordechai," Esther said.
"Then I have taught you well, my dear," Mordechai said. "But be prepared for the day when you may have to smurf for your people to be king, because I sense that there are dangers that have yet to smurf their heads against the holy people of God."
"But how will I know when I should smurf to the king about our people, Mordechai?" Esther asked.
"You will know when the Lord smurfs that it is time to smurf so, Esther," Mordechai said. "I will continue to watch from my end as I smurf by the king's gate, and you should continue to watch from your position as queen. Remember that, like the prophet Ezekiel, we are watchsmurfs on the walls, always keeping vigilant for when the enemy is about to strike."
"I will remember, Mordechai, but I will admit, that my heart has been smurfing after the king, that I don't want to smurf him get hurt by anything," Esther said.
"It is only natural for your heart to smurf so, my dear," Mordechai said. "But remember that you have a greater King to serve, the Lord who rules over all creation. You must serve Him first and foremost with your whole being as a child of the living God."
"I will serve Him, my cousin," Esther said. "Thank you for everything."
The two of them embraced before they left the stage in separate directions and the audience applauded.

Chapter 3
Narrator returned to the stage for more narration. "After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him and set his seat above all the rulers who were with him. And all the king's servants who were in the king's gate bowed and paid homage to Haman, for so the king had commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not bow nor pay homage."
The curtains parted, and there were a group of people gathered together, including Mordechai. Then a trumpeter came and blew his horn to make his announcement. "All shall bow before the great and honorable Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite!"
Then Brainy appeared on stage, dressed in his best official robes and turban as Haman, followed by Clumsy, who acted as his assistant. "Thank you, my loyal subjects, I am so happy and pleased that you would..." Then Haman noticed that Mordechai did not bow before him. "Excuse me, but I did want everyone, including you, Mordechai, to bow before me as your official."
"You should obey the king's command, Mordechai, if you want to live," one of the Smurfs bowing before Haman said.
"I'm sorry, but I cannot bow before anyone except my king and my Lord, for I am a Jew," Mordechai said.
"Uh, why is Mordechai not obeying the command to bow before me, my noble assistant?" Haman asked.
"Well, maybe it's because Mordechai is a Jew, and Jews don't bow down to anyone except their God," his assistant answered.
"You mean...there is a whole group of people in this kingdom that will not bow down to me, even though I deserve to be honored and respected?" Haman said, sounding perplexed.
"Of course there are, Brainy...I mean, Haman," his assistant said.
"Oooh, that makes me so mad!" Haman said. He dismissed the crowd that was before him and spoke alone to his assistant. "My people have always been put down by the Jews at every opportunity, and now smurfs my time to rule over them, and yet they refuse to honor me!"
"Uh, what are you going to do, Haman?" his assistant asked.
"Well, smurfing rid of Mordechai isn't going to be enough now, is it?" Haman said. "It looks like I'm going to have to smurf rid of a whole group of people that Mordechai belongs to, and if that means every last Jew is going to suffer, then so be it! Get me my magic dice!"
"Uh, here you are, Haman!" his assistant said, handing him the dice. "But what are you going to smurf with it?"
"It's time to cast the pur...that is, the lot...of when I'm going to smurf rid of my potential enemies, the Jews, and these dice will smurf me the answer that I'm looking for," Haman said. He blew on the dice, rolled him in his hand, and then threw them onto the floor and waited for their answer. "Ha! The twelfth month of Adar! That is when I will strike at them!"
"But you're going to need the king's permission in order to smurf that, Brainy...I mean, Haman," his assistant said.
"Very true, and that's what I'm going to smurf right now," Haman said, picking up the dice from the floor.
...
After a brief curtain close, the scene then changed to being inside the king's throne room. He watched as Haman approached the throne. "Well, Haman, what can I do for you? It shall be granted," the king said.
"My king, there is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from all other people's, and they do not keep the king's laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain," Haman said. "If it pleases the king, let a decree be written that they be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who do the work, to bring it into the king's treasuries."
The king took off his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman. "Very well, then, the money and the people are given to you, to do with them as seems good to you."
"Oh, thank you, your Majesty," Haman said, sounding obsequious. "You won't ever regret that you've smurfed today." He then hastily left the stage, leaving the king wondering.
The curtain closed, and Narrator returned to continue the narration. "Then the king's scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and a decree was written according to all that Haman commanded; to the king's satraps, to the governors who were over each province, to the rulers of all the people, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language. In the name of King Ahasuerus it was written, and sealed with the king's signet ring. And the letters were sent by runners into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to exterminate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and to plunder their possessions; a copy of the document to be issued as law in every province, being published for all people, that they should be ready for that day. The runners went out, hastened by the king's command; and the decree was proclaimed in Shushan the palace. So the king and Haman sat down to drink. But the city of Shushan was perplexed."
The curtains opened, and a group of Smurfs were standing around a bulletin board with a notice attached to it. Mordechai got close to it and read it aloud for everyone else to hear.
"By the order of King Ahasuerus, all Jews within the kingdom are to be exterminated without exception on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month," Mordechai said.
Then one by one the Jews began to speak up.
"Oh no! You mean the king wants to kill us?"
"What did we smurf to the king that made him want to smurf that?"
"We're just innocents in this matter!"
"This is a total injustice!"
"We subjects also have rights in the kingdom!"
"What are we going to smurf about it?"
Then Mordechai lifted up his voice. "Silence, my fellow Jews. I know that what we smurf before us is a very dire situation, but I believe God has smurfed people in their places for such a time as this. My cousin Esther smurfs as queen beside the king. Perhaps if I talk with her, she may smurf this matter before the king and get him to change his mind."
"But in the meantime, what are we going to smurf about it?" one of the Jews asked.
"The only thing we can do...is to fast and pray and smurf in sackcloth so that our God will take notice of our condition, as we humble ourselves before our Lord and our King," Mordechai answered. "I myself will smurf likewise."
The crowd dispersed, murmuring to themselves about the situation at hand. Mordechai took the message with him and left the stage as the curtains closed.
...
A short while later, Esther appeared onstage with Mordechai, now dressed in sackcloth and carrying the message with him.
"Mordechai, I came as soon as Hathach summoned me," Esther said. "Why are you smurfed in sackcloth all of a sudden? Here, let me get you dressed in some better clothes, because you can't be smurfed into the palace wearing those."
"I want you to smurf this message to the king, to see if he has actually ordered this to happen on this particular day," Mordechai said, handing Esther a copy of the message.
Esther read it. "The king wants the Jews to be exterminated without exception on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month? But why? What have our people smurfed against him?"
"That's what I want you to find out, my dear," Mordechai said. "Only you can smurf close to the king to understand what's going on that would require him to answer for this proclamation and smurf something about it."
"There's just one problem, Mordechai," Esther said. "All the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces know that any man or woman who goes into the inner court to the king, who has not been summoned, has but one law: to put all to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter, that he may live. Furthermore, I have not been called to go in to the king these thirty days."
"Do not think in your soul that you will escape in the king's house any more than all the other Jews," Mordechai said sternly. "For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house shall perish. Yet who knows whether you have attained unto the kingdom for such a time as this?"
"I understand," Esther said. "Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I have perished, I have perished!"
"We will smurf through this together, with God as our help," Mordechai said, as the two of them embraced before Mordechai left the stage.
Esther stood alone, falling to her knees as she looked up to heaven and clasped her hands together in prayer. "Lord, I need your help," she called out. "I need to know who among the king's friends would dare to smurf their hand against the Jews."
Then a loud gentle voice spoke: "Haman."
"Haman?" Esther asked. "He's the king's adviser. How can I expose him before the king as the one who would smurf his hand against my people?"
"I will be there with you, my child," the voice spoke again. "Peace, be still."
"Oh, thank you, my Lord and my King," Esther said, sounding pleased as the lights dimmed on her before she left the stage.
...
Narrator returned to continue the narration. "Now it happened on the third day that Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king's house, across from the king's house, while the king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, in front of the gate of the house."
The curtains opened, and the king was seated on his throne with Haman beside him. The two of them saw that Esther had entered the room wearing her royal robes.
"Why, Esther, this is a surprise that you come to me on a day not appointed for you," the king said, sounding startled.
"You know the law, about what to smurf to those who smurf to you on a day not appointed for them," Haman said.
"I indeed do know, Haman," the king said. He picked up the golden scepter and lifted it up toward Esther. "Approach and touch the scepter, my queen." Esther then came forward and touched the tip of the scepter. "What do you wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given to you, even to half the kingdom."
"If it pleases the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him," Esther said.
"You mean...the queen wants me to attend a feast smurfed for you alone, my king?" Haman asked, sounding surprised.
"This must be a special feast if she invited the both of us to attend, Haman," the king said. "Come, let's do what our queen has invited us to do."
"Uh, gosh, Haman, you must be lucky to have been invited to the queen's feast with the king," his assistant said.
"The queen certainly knows what kind of person I truly am, my humble assistant," Haman said. "I'm sure that everybody will soon know that as a fact."
...
As the curtains closed, Narrator stepped onto the stage again. "So the king and Haman went to the banquet that Esther had prepared. However, Esther was not yet ready to reveal who it was that was plotting the destruction against the Jews."
The curtains opened, and the king was now in his private chambers with Haman, enjoying a feast that was prepared for him and Haman by Greedy, who was playing the king's cook and serving the food. "So tell me, Esther, what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request? And it shall be done, even to half the kingdom," the king said.
Esther answered, "My petition and request is this: If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and fulfill my request, then let the king and Haman come to the banquet which I will prepare for them, and tomorrow I will do according to the word of the king."
"Then we will certainly attend, won't we, Haman?" the king said.
"Oh, of course, my king, anything for you and the queen," Haman said, sounding pleased.
The curtains closed, and Haman stepped on the stage, looking all happy and pleased. But then he saw Mordechai just standing there on the other side of the stage, and still not bowing before him. Haman just gave him a look and then turned away, heading off the stage.
Then the curtains were opened, and Haman was now in his house with his family and Zeresh, his wife, who was played by Smurfette. "So how did your day go today, my dear?" Zeresh asked.
"I couldn't have asked for a better day, Zeresh," Haman said. "In fact, I couldn't have asked for a better family of a wife and sons than the ones I am blessed with today, or the glory of my riches, or that I have been promoted by the king to be above all the rulers and servants of the king. In addition to that, Queen Esther invited no one to come in with the king to the banquet that she prepared, except me; and tomorrow I am again invited by her, along with the king."
"But something still smurfs wrong with you, my dear," Zeresh said. "If this was the best day you've had, then what happened to ruin it?"
Haman sighed. "Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordechai the Jew sitting at the king's gate. He still won't bow to me, and I fear the Jews will never bow to me or smurf me the respect that I deserve."
"There, there, my sweet, everything will be all right," Zeresh said. "All you have to smurf is to let a gallows be made, fifty cubits high, and in the morning suggest to the king that Mordechai be hanged on it; then go joyfully with the king to the banquet."
"You know, that doesn't smurf like a bad idea at all," Haman said, kissing Zeresh on the cheek. "In fact, I'm going to smurf that right away. That will be one less problem that I'm going to have to deal with."

Chapter 4
The curtains closed, and Narrator stepped onto the stage again. "That night sleep fled from the king. So it was commanded to bring the book of the records of the chronicles; and they were recited before the king."
The curtains opened to show the king now having trouble sleeping in his bedroom. He finally got up and said, "Something is wrong with me, for I cannot sleep tonight." He then called out for a servant, who came at the king's bidding.
"Is there something the matter, my king?" the servant asked.
"Please read to me from the book of the chronicles, so that I may know what has happened in the past season," the king answered.
"Here it is, your Majesty," the servant said, as another servant came with a scroll which the first servant read from. "Mordechai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's officials, the doorkeepers who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus."
"What honor or dignity has been bestowed upon Mordechai for this?" the king asked.
"Nothing has been done for him," the king's servant answered.
Then they heard noise outside the king's window. The king looked and saw that it was someone that had entered the outer court. "Who is in the court?" the king asked.
"Behold, Haman is standing in the court," the king's servant answered.
"Let him come in," the king ordered.
Haman had entered the stage, still muttering about how he was going to ask the king about hanging Mordechai, when he was allowed entry into the king's bedroom. "Ah, Haman, you've come at the right time," the king said.
"Oh, your Majesty, I didn't know that you would be up at this time," Haman said. "How fortunate for me as well."
"Well, Haman, I was thinking, and perhaps you can tell me, what shall be done for the man whom the king delights to honor?" the king asked.
Haman looked at the audience with a knowing smile. "Whom would the king delight to honor more than myself?" he thought aloud. Then he turned to the king and proceeded: "For the man whom the king delights to honor: let the royal apparel be brought which the king has worn, and a horse on which the king has ridden, and the royal crown which has been placed upon his head. Then let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble rulers, that he may array the man whom the king delights to honor. Then have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him: Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!"
"You know, that's not a bad idea," the king said, looking as if he agreed to what Haman had said. "Hurry! Take the apparel and the horse, just as you have suggested, and do so for Mordechai the Jew who sits in the king's gate! Do not fail to do any of all that you have spoken."
"Mordechai the Jew? You want to honor him above all others?" Haman asked, sounding aghast at the suggestion.
"Is there a problem with you carrying out my orders?" the king asked.
"Oh no, your Majesty," Haman said. "It's just that...Mordechai the Jew?"
"I meant what I said, Haman," the king said. "Mordechai the Jew is to be honored today in exactly the manner you have prescribed for him, and I want you to carry out my orders in doing so. Is that understood?"
Haman sighed, realizing that he wasn't going to get the king to change his mind. "Yes, your Lordship, I will do that."
...
The curtains closed, and Narrator stepped onto the stage again. "So Haman took the apparel and the horse, arrayed Mordechai and led him on horseback through the city square, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!"
Then Haman stepped onto the stage with Mordechai arrayed in the suggested apparel and riding on a horse consisting of two Smurfs dressed in a horse costume, with Haman leading him across the stage shouting, "Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor," with shouts of praise coming from behind the curtain.
After Haman and Mordechai left the stage together, Narrator continued. "Afterward Mordechai went back to the king's gate. But Haman hurried to his house, mourning and with his head covered."
The curtains opened, and the scene was now changed to Haman's house, with Haman standing beside his wife, looking miserable. "I can't believe it," he muttered. "I wanted to ask the king for permission to hang Mordechai, and instead I ended up honoring the very enemy I wanted to destroy."
"If Mordechai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of the seed of the Jews, you will not prevail against him but shall be thrown down and fall before him," Zeresh said.
"Oh, that's very comforting to hear from you!" Haman shouted, still upset.
Then the officials came. "Haman, your presence is required in the king's chambers tonight to attend the feast of Queen Esther," one of the officials said.
"Well, maybe I'll feel a whole lot better tonight after the feast, and things will smurf out in my favor again," Haman said, as he left the stage with the officials.
...
The curtains closed to allow the scene to change, and then it opened to show the king and Haman attending Esther's second feast.
"What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? It shall be done, even to half the kingdom," the king said.
Esther looked like the time was here and now to tell him. "If I have found favor in your eyes, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request. For we have been sold, my people and I, to be annihilated, killed and destroyed. Had we been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept silent, although the enemy could never compensate for the king's loss."
"Who is he, and where is he, who would dare presume in his heart to do such a thing?" the king asked.
Esther boldly stood up. "The adversary and enemy is this evil Haman!" She then produced the very proclamation Haman had written and signed with the king's signet ring.
"WHAT?!?" the king shouted, sounding very surprised. He got up from his seat and left the stage to ponder about what he had heard.
Haman looked like he had been exposed committing a crime before the public. "Queen Esther, how could you? I didn't know you were of the very people that I wanted to destroy!" he cried out.
"So you do admit that you're responsible for this!" Esther said. "And you smurfed this for what reason? Because of my cousin Mordechai?"
"Honestly, I had no idea that Mordechai was your cousin!" Haman said. "Oh, please, my queen, spare me my life, so that I would live and not die!"
But as Haman continued to plead, he tripped and fell on top of Esther as she was reclining on the couch. "Get off of me!" Esther cried out.
"Not unless you forgive me and spare me my life!" Haman said, struggling with Esther on the couch.
Then the king returned and saw what Haman was doing to Esther. "Will you also violate the queen while I am in the house?" he spoke aloud.
"Really, your Majesty, it's not what you think it smurfs like," Haman tried to say.
The king cried out, "GUARDS!!!" The guards immediately came and pulled Haman off of Esther, covering his head with a black mask.
Harbonah, one of the officials, said to the king, "Behold, the gallows, fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordechai, who spoke good on the king's behalf, is standing at the house of Haman."
"Hang him on it!" the king ordered.
"NO! NO! PLEASE!" Haman cried, struggling uselessly as the guards took him off the stage. Later, a shadow cast against the back curtain showed that Haman was hanged.
...
The curtains closed and Narrator took to the stage again. "On that day King Ahasuerus gave Queen Esther the house of Haman, the one harassing the Jews. And Mordechai came before the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her. And the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordechai; and Esther appointed Mordechai over the house of Haman."
The curtains opened and the scene changed to the throne room, where Esther was introducing her cousin Mordechai to the king. "This is the man whom I am related to, my cousin, who sits at the king's gate," Esther said.
"Your Majesty," Mordechai said as he bowed before the king.
"Mordechai, for your services, I appoint you to the office of the chief adviser to the king," the king said. "This signet ring that was on the hand of Haman I now give to you, as well as the whole house of Haman."
"Thank you, your Grace," Mordechai said, as he bowed again after the ring had been placed on his finger.
The king then extended the golden scepter toward Esther, and Esther touched the tip of it. "Speak, Queen Esther, for what is your request? It shall be granted unto you," the king said.
"If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor before him and the thing seems right to the king and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to exterminate the Jews who are in all the king's provinces. For how can I endure to see the evil that will meet my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?" Esther said.
"Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows because he has stretched out his hand against the Jews," the king said. "You yourselves write a decree concerning the Jews, as is good in your eyes, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's signet ring; for whatever is written in the king's name and sealed with the king's signet ring no one can revoke."
"What does it mean, my cousin?" Esther asked.
"It means that we cannot stop the first command that was smurfed by the king's signet ring by Haman, my dear," Mordechai said. "However, we can now smurf new orders that are signed by the king's signet ring that would allow the Jews to protect themselves on the day when Haman's evil plan is to smurf into effect."
"You mean we can save ourselves and our people?" Esther said, realizing what that meant. "Oh, thank you, Mordechai, and thank you, my lord the king, for allowing us to smurf that!"
The king smiled. "I am pleased that you are pleased, my queen."
The curtains closed and Narrator stepped onto the stage again. "So the king's scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and it was written, according to all that Mordechai commanded, to the Jews, the satraps, the governors, and the rulers of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, one hundred and twenty-seven provinces in all, to every province in its own writing, to every people in their own language, and to the Jews in their own writing and language. And he wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, sealed it with the king's signet ring, and sent letters by couriers on horseback, riding on royal horses bred from swift steeds."
The curtains opened, and there were a crowd of Smurfs gathered together to read the latest announcement from the king.
"By the order of King Ahasuerus, all Jews within the kingdom are required and permitted to defend themselves against Haman's forces on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month," one of the Smurfs read aloud.
The crowd began to stir among themselves as they heard the new message.
"Hurray for the king! He has listened to us!"
"We now get to defend ourselves!"
"Good riddance to Haman! He got what he deserved!"
"I hate Haman!"
"Praise God for King Ahasuerus!"
"And praise God for Queen Esther!"
The curtains closed, and Narrator stepped onto the stage again. "So Mordechai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of violet and white, with a great crown of gold and a garment of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor. And in every province and city, wherever the king's command and decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews, because fear of the Jews fell upon them."

Chapter 5
The curtains part and the scene is now the king's chambers, where Esther is now beside the king, looking out at the kingdom they're ruling together.
"Do you feel better that your people are now able to protect themselves from their enemies, even those that are among us?" the king asked.
"My people always have enemies, but we put our trust in the living God who rules over all the kingdoms of the earth, my king," Esther said.
"You say it as if you expect that someday this kingdom of mine will pass away," the king said.
"My cousin and my parents taught me to smurf forward to a kingdom that will never pass away, a kingdom where all the people in creation will smurf with each other in peace and harmony," Esther said.
"But what will I do in the day that I am longer king?" the king asked.
"In that day, no one will ever need to smurf rule over everybody or everything, because all rule and power and authority will be smurfed to the One who rules over all things," Esther said.
"I don't think I can ever face entering into that kingdom without you, my dear," the king said.
"It's not me you need, my king," Esther said. "It's the Lord God Almighty. All you have to do is smurf your faith and trust in Him. He will smurf the impossible, as He has done to smurf about deliverance for my people."
"Would you still take me to be your one true love for all time, my queen?" the king asked as he looked into her eyes.
"I will be your queen, your lover, and your friend, until my time on earth is through," Esther answered.
The spotlight then focused as the king and Esther embraced each other and then kissed.
...
The curtains closed and Narrator stepped onto the stage once more. "The day of Haman's massacre came, and when it seemed as if they would have the upper hand, the Jews turned things around and slaughtered their enemies and overpowered them, though they did not take any of the spoil. This occured for two days, and then the Jews had rest, and a day of celebration in which they rejoiced in the deliverance they had from their enemies."
Then the curtains parted, and there were a crowd of Smurfs joined around the king and Esther. "My fellow subjects, I make a decree today that the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the twelfth month shall be designated as days of celebration for the Jews, for the days of Haman's plot against them has been foiled and turned against his own forces."
"These days shall be known as Purim," Esther said, "and these days shall be remembered throughout all generations among the Jews."
The crowd shouted praise and applauded. "LONG LIVE KING AHASUERUS!!! LONG LIVE QUEEN ESTHER!!!"
Mordechai stood beside Esther, a tear falling from his eye. Esther noticed it as she looked toward him. "Cousin, what is the matter?" she asked.
"I feel as if my duty to raise you as my daughter is finished, my dear," Mordechai answered. "Your father and your mother would be pleased at you."
"We will still be together, Mordechai, won't we?" Esther asked.
"I will still be beside you until the Lord calls me to be home with Him forever," Mordechai said. "Just remember everything that I have taught you, so we will be together on that Day."
Esther and Mordechai embraced each other as the curtains closed while the crowd cheered for her and the king.
The audience stood up and applauded the close of the play, and then after the applause died down, Tapper took to the stage for one last time. "My fellow Smurfs, that has been the biblical tale of Queen Esther, which I hope has been entertaining as well as informative. And before we smurf our own ways, let me smurf a prayer for everyone assembled here." Every Smurf bowed their heads as Tapper prayed. "Lord God Almighty, help us as creatures made for Your pleasure and purpose to smurf these lessons from this play into our very being, that even though we may not see You smurfing directly in our lives, we will know that You are smurfing in us and with us and through us to direct our paths into the way of righteousness. In the name of Your only begotten Son Jesus, I pray. Amen."
"Amen," the Smurfs responded before they left the Smurf Theater.
...
Sometime later, Tapper hosted a party for the Smurfs who were part of the play at his tavern. They raised their glasses together and then drank their beverages, feeling relieved that the play is now over.
"So how do you feel having starred in your second play based on Tapper's holy book so far, Smurfette?" Empath asked.
"I thought it was interesting, though I wish there was another female Smurf my age that can smurf the other female roles in it, Empath," Smurfette said.
"This smurf understands your loneliness in not having another female adult Smurf to confide in, Smurfette," Empath said. "Perhaps someday we might discover a group of female Smurfs that exist somewhere in the world."
"Perhaps someday, but if that happens, would you still love me?" Smurfette asked.
"Of course this smurf will, Smurfette," Empath said.
"Well, that is the last time I'm going to smurf myself the role of a villain in any play," Brainy said. "As of now, I'm going to retire myself from smurfing any future roles of villains."
"Gee, Brainy, I thought you played one pretty well in that play we were in," Clumsy said.
"At least you appreciate the work that I smurf myself in when it smurfs to the dramatic arts," Brainy said.
"I'm sure we'll find you a better role to play in the future, Brainy," Papa Smurf said. "Just don't give up on acting completely if that's what you desire to smurf."
"I'm certainly not going to smurf up on an acting career, even if I do play a eunuch in some future role," Vanity said.
"Uh, what's a eunuch?" Clumsy asked.
"Politely speaking, my good Clumsy, a eunuch is a male person who has lost a part of his anatomy that allows him to father children," Tapper said.
"Gosh," Clumsy said, sounding a bit shocked. "I only hope that never happens to me."
Tapper chuckled. "Hopefully it will never happen to any of us."
"Well, I will forgive Brainy for smurfing on top of me near the end of the play, even if it was just for acting," Smurfette said.
"Thank you, Smurfette, for your consmurferation of me, as I was just acting out the role of a villain and have no evil intentions against you as a Smurf," Brainy said.
"You were lucky, laddie, that we didn't actually smurf you off the stage to hang you for such improper behavior towards a fair maiden, however smurfulated that may be," Duncan McSmurf said.
"Yeah, but I was surely tempted to smurf it to Brainy regardless," Hefty said.
"I know the feeling, every day having to smurf up with the know-it-all," Tuffy said.
"Well, here's to any future roles we may play together in any future production by Tapper, Narrator, and Poet," Empath said.
"Here, here," they all said together as they raised their glasses.
