Smiling Friends, an Adult Swim show by Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack, is set to air a Smurfs parody episode.
Smiling Friends is a crazy adult cartoon (No Smurfling eyes!) about a charity that sets out to make clients smile. As to be expected with adult cartoons, it can be dark, insane, and confusing, but so is the real world, and uniquely, the show bites back at cynicism by showing smiles through the unfiltered absurdity of life.
User waaaghboyz on the Smiling Friends Subreddit put it best:
"I swear this show has such an oddly pure and innocent outlook while also being as dark and violent as any other Adult Swim show. It's such a weird balance but they're able to pull it off perfectly. I think it might be because the show isn't as bleakly cynical as most other adult animation?"
The episode Shmaloogles is set to air on November 23, 2025. The earliest information on the episode is here:
This storyboarded scene immediately made it clear that this episode will be parodying our titular Smurfs! Small, cute, big-nosed creatures lead by an old bearded leader that live in a hidden village who use their species name in place of words? It gets better, too:
The official trailer reveals the Shmaloogles to be blue and white, even giving the houses a more blatantly fungal look. And we have a "Gargamel" with his castle!
I'll write more on this when the episode releases. Stay smurfy, or should I say, stay schmaloogly!

The episode aired yesterday, check it out!
Charlie has really good moments in this episode and the "Gargamel" character is particularly funny. Though the Schmaloogles may need to take notes from our Smurfs on how to look out for each other because there are quite a few Schmaloogle casualties here, be warned!
Of course I love this episode because I'm a diehard fan of Smiling Friends and Smurfs, but I think it's one of the weaker episodes of this season. That's not to mean it's bad, I adore season 3! This is just more encouragement to watch the rest of the show, go go go!!!
Spoilers ahead Click me for SPOILERS!!!!On the episode's contents: Some schmaloogle deaths were extremely realistic such as the chill schmaloogle seizing after being concussed, which was a little hard to watch as it's so gruesome! And poor Pim deserves lots of love as always, sigh... The whole thing with the Wizard going on the internet via magic was something Smurfs (2025) tried and failed to do. Gargamel going on zoom doesn't make sense, but the forum wizard fits here because the show has always been set in modern times, unlike the Smurfs' chronological home in the middle ages. I liked seeing that bit pulled off successfully. The training montage was likely a homage to these types of muscular smurf pictures, hahaha! Ignoring King Schmaloogle's accusations against Charlie, the ending with all the Schmaloogles and the Wizard at Wawa was very cute, I can imagine something similar with the Smurfs and Gargamel. It's nice to see Charlie in his element. (-:
