What is a gashapon machine?
A gashapon machine (also known as a gachapon machine) is a type of vending machine that dispenses small, collectible toys or figurines encased in plastic capsules.
The term "gashapon" is derived from two Japanese onomatopoeic words: "gasha" (or "gacha"), which mimics the sound of turning the machine's crank, and "pon," which represents the sound of the capsule dropping into the collection tray.
Users insert coins and turn a crank to receive a random toy, making each purchase a surprise.
Gashapon machines originated in Japan in the 1960s, inspired by American vending machines. The concept was popularized by Bandai, a major toy manufacturer, which introduced high-quality collectible toys in the 1970s.
