I've been sewing for years and years and have made my fair share of plush toys and even costumes. So once I started getting invested in the Smurfs, I had that all-too-familiar urge to reach through the screen... 

A smurf with two left feet and a smurf who's in love with himself!

An unlikely duo, but Clumsy is my favorite and Vanity is my partner's. I made Vanity for him, and he's indeed had quite the smurfy trip with him back from California to his new home in Ohio. Yes, he made sure he looked handsome the whole way!

These Smurfs stand about 4 inches tall (5 with the hat) because that's how tall I think real Smurfs would be. I freehanded these Smurfs so while there technically is a pattern, it's completely illegible and weird since it's just cut-out paper scraps... Sorry!

 I started with creating a machine embroidery file for the face. Umm.... This looks like a Vanity fidget spinner... Or a skinned smurf... Let's quickly move on.

"OH NO! WHERE are my arms?! This isn't good, oh no, it isn't!!! How will I hold my mirror?!"

Today I held Clumsy in my hand while going for a drive.

"Gosh, where're we going? Better not be to Gargamel's!" 

Don't worry Clumsy, we're just going to watch a show with a friend! 

Clumsy loves watching TV, but hates scary movies! He hides in the blankets every time!

...Vanity, on the other hand, found a perfectly Smurf-sized mirror at the store.

"I look more handsome than ever! Oh Vanity you DOG you! "

"Ooh, Vanity, can we get the um, that Cheesecake with the Spanish name? What's it called... Dulcey Day Lechay? I looove dulcey de Laychy!"

"Oh Clumsy, I believe you mean Dulce de Leche... Sounds Smurfy, but i'm more in the mood for Lemon Raspberry Cream!"

"Good thing Greedy inn't here, or there'd be no cake for either of us! Heehee!"

We're here to see the 2025 Smurfs movie!

"I think this movie's about me! "

"Gosh, I bet it is! Vanity, you were always meant t' be a star!"

(Vanity was blowing kisses to himself throughout the whole film )

We got matching shirts as well as matching Smurfs in our pockets!

"Hi fellas "

"Heehee, wheee!!! Bein' in a pocket sure is fun! W-wait, I'm slippin'-!!!"

"I only knew about that mean, mangy ol' Azrael, I didn't know a kitty cat could be so sweet an' cozy! It's so soft... I think I'll stay here for a while... "

I'll have to give Clumsy a bath soon since he was made using washable tape, and I haven't washed the tape away yet! I'll post pics of his smurfy spa day once the time comes.

Clumsy's Spa Day

I was bored today and didn't feel like working on any of my other projects, so it seemed like the perfect time to give Clumsy his bath.

As mentioned in the first post, he was so small and intricate to sew that I had to use washable tape to temporarily hold the little fabric scraps in place. This tape needed to be rinsed away eventually, and yesterday I noticed dust sticking along his seams, so I figured it's due time for that tape to go.

Here's the Smurf-sized bathroom - I actually didn't know these ceramic pieces were in my house until my father dug them out of storage. Aren't they cute? 

The bathmat is a cut scrap of terry cloth, the sponge is a scrap of foam, and the rubber ducky is from my little collection of yellow chicks. 

"I'm ready! "

After a quick test with some Lush bath bomb crumbs on an extra piece of fabric, I realized they were too colorful and could stain Clumsy's clothes or skin, so I used foaming apple hand soap instead.

He's so cute in his bubble bath...
