Tamara Rubin has run a series of tests on the 1983 Baker Smurf glass from Hardee's.
The Baker Smurf glass contains 129,800 ppm lead, 5,587 ppm cadmium and 5,344 ppm arsenic.
A 90 ppm lead level is considered unsafe for kids.
So what can you do? Simply put, don't let your kids use these glasses.
Here are the test results for the 1983 Hardee's Baker Smurf glass:
Blue paint contains:
Lead (Pb): 89,000 ppm (+/- 2,300 ppm) Cadmium (Cd): 1,812 ppm (+/- 91 ppm)
White paint contains:
Lead (Pb): 77,000 ppm (+/- 1,700 ppm) Cadmium (Cd): 3,069 ppm (+/- 85 ppm) Arsenic (As): 5,344 ppm (+/- 239 ppm)
Green paint contains:
Lead (Pb): 129,800 ppm (+/- 4,100 ppm) Cadmium (Cd): 4,134 ppm (+/- 231 ppm)
Yellow paint contains:
Lead (Pb): 112,000 ppm (+/- 3,500 ppm) Cadmium (Cd): 5,587 ppm (+/- 310 ppm)

The results are alarming but not unexpected. These high lead levels are not unique to the Hardees Baker Smurf glass. Lots of glassware unfortunately contains lead paint. It has been used in glassware and ceramics for many years. There was even a BP lead paint Smurf scandal in the UK.
All of these glasses are unsafe
Many modern items made in China (including glassware) still contain unsafe levels or lead and other toxicants.
