Smurfs are technically vegetarian, but not herbivores. Smurfs consume dairy and fatty products making them vegetarian, but they have never been seen consuming meat. Although Smurfs do like to indulge themselves in fatty products and sweets from time to time (greedy smurf mostly), they never eat products from dead animals making them vegetarian.

That's right, Mason; excepting dairy and eggs (although there are some scenes of Smurfs fishing), the Smurfs are usually seen in the comics having soup and other meals made from vegetables and leaves. On the other hand, Greedy and Hefty appear with hot-dogs in the cartoon episode "King Smurf", and I also remember to have seen Greedy with a roasted chicken leg in "The Sorcerer Smurf".

Maybe HB has forgotten this detail about. ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

Here's Greedy with a roasted chicken leg. Otherwise, maybe of a smaller bird! After all, a chicken leg would be somewhat large for a Smurf to handle.

In fact I was wrong when I meant the Smurfs were seen in the comics having vegetables and fruits for meals (besides fishing). Here's the page 13 from The Smurfs and the Egg.

So this means they must appreciate animal-based foods such as sausages too.

I consider vegetarianism among the Smurfs to be the norm and meat-eating to be an amusing aberration.

Squeaky you got me thinking about Smurfs and dairy. There is an ice cream called Blue Moon ice cream. I called it Smurf ice cream! Blue Moon icecream is blue with marshmallows. It's kind of raspberry flavored but it also has a bit of citrus. It's good!!

And remember the Hotdog Smurf, Hamburger Smurf and Pilgrim Smurf figurine holding the Thanksgiving turkey on a platter...

The set of TerBeke Smurf pins show the Smurfs with sausages and rolled meat. Ter Beke is a Belgian company known for its meat products, cold cuts and ready-meals available all over Europe.

Agreed, we usually see the Smurfs eating fruits, vegetables, leaves and treats (like cakes, pies and popsicles) but there are examples of the Smurfs eating meat. And there are lots of examples of the Smurfs fishing, presumably for eating and not just relaxation.
