This is a mini-story that I created for my EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series. ----- It has been a few days since Smurfette gave birth to Empath's child Psycheliana, who at that time was called Baby Smurfette. At that time the village has been seeing Smurfette a lot with her new child, whom they admit looked just as beautiful as her mother, if not more so. Poet has been writing a lot of poems based on Baby Smurfette, Painter has been doing a painting with Smurfette and her child being the subject, and Scribbler has been creating cartoon images of the child. Everyone wanted to make Baby Smurfette feel as welcome to life around the Smurf Village as they did Miracle when he first came into the village some years before Empath's final return from Psychelia.
Empath felt a sense of pride being a new parent, the same sense of pride that he felt from Papa Smurf in his memories about being a new parent years ago. It was as if he was carrying on a family legacy that started from Papa Smurf's own Papa Smurf and would be perpetuated through a new generation when his daughter would be old enough to marry and become a Mama Smurf. He could wish that his fellow Smurfs would feel that same feeling when they marry their fellow Smurfettes from Smurfette Island and become parents themselves.
One day Empath decided that he would spend some time letting Papa Smurf be with his granddaughter. He put her in a stroller and took her to Papa Smurf's laboratory, where he knocked on the door and waited.
"I'll be right there," Papa Smurf called out from inside. He then opened the door and saw Empath with Baby Smurfette waiting outside. "Why, Empath, I didn't expect you to be smurfing your daughter out on a daily walk or anything like that," he said, smiling as he saw Baby Smurfette. "What smurfs to be on your mind to have my granddaughter visit me?"
"This smurf figured that Baby Smurfette needed to see her Grandpa Smurf, since it's been a few days since she smurfed into the world," Empath replied. "Would you like to have her smurf you?"
"Of course I would," Papa Smurf said, allowing Empath and Baby Smurfette to enter. "How has the child been so far?"
"She's been a pleasure for us to smurf care of, Papa Smurf," Empath answered. "We haven't yet encountered any problems with her, although who knows when her telekinetic abilities would be active."
"You'll know when she starts smurfing things flying around in her room like you did years ago, Empath," Papa Smurf said. "Even I wasn't prepared for when you smurfed me flying around as well."
Empath laughed. "This smurf wishes that I could even remember that. It must have been difficult for you to realize that this smurf would exhibit telekinesis at such an early age."
"Well, I'm sure you'll have a much easier time with Baby Smurfette once that happens," Papa Smurf said. "Mind if I smurf her in my arms?"
"Not at all, Papa Smurf," Empath said. He picked up Baby Smurfette from the stroller and carefully placed her in Papa Smurf's arms. Baby Smurfette smiled and started pulling on Papa Smurf's beard.
"Hey, smurf it easy, little one," Papa Smurf said, laughing. "Your little brother Smurf smurfed that to me years ago when he first smurfed into the village."
"She's just curious about her world, Papa Smurf, that's all," Empath said. "Frankly, this smurf is curious about what kind of advice you could give this smurf as a new parent."
"Oh, so that's what you're here for," Papa Smurf said, realizing for himself. "Well, one of the things I could smurf about being a parent is that while smurfing a child into the world may be the hardest thing you and Smurfette had to endure, it will pale in comparison with smurfing a child from a baby Smurf to a full-grown Smurf. There's just so many things that could smurf wrong with smurfing up a child that you will wonder at times if you're smurfing the right thing, but as long as the two of you show that you will care for the child and love her no matter what happens, you will smurf through the worst times of your parenting with your sanity intact."
"This smurf wishes you didn't have to experience losing this smurf to years of living away in Psychelia," Empath said.
"I feel the same way myself, Empath," Papa Smurf said. "But I feel that Mother Nature and Father Time had smurfed me another chance in raising your fellow Smurfs when they were without their parents."
"You think that this smurf may experience that kind of loss among this smurf's fellow Smurfs when they become parents of their own children, Papa Smurf?" Empath asked.
"I honestly don't know," Papa Smurf answered. "The loss of my fellow Smurfs was due to an unknown plague, and who knows what may happen to your fellow Smurfs when they smurf of age to become parents themselves."
"Well, if it ever happens, Papa Smurf, this smurf would be more than willing to smurf up to the role of being the village's sole Papa Smurf to the next generation," Empath said.
"I'm sure that you'll be a good Papa Smurf, Empath," Papa Smurf said, handing Baby Smurfette back to Empath. "You just have to believe that you'll do the right thing when the moment comes."
Empath noticed something. "Baby Smurfette seems to have smurfed asleep and is resting peacefully, Papa Smurf."
"Then I will allow you to smurf her home where she will be safe," Papa Smurf said, lowering his voice so as to not wake up the baby Smurf.
"You don't have to worry about waking her up," Empath said. "She can pretty much sleep through anything, even Harmony's horn playing."
Papa Smurf chuckled. "I could remember that of you, Empath. No wonder you were so aware of your surroundings as a baby Smurf, that me and your Mama Smurf hardly smurfed any trouble waking you up or smurfing you to sleep."
"This smurf is certain you will remember it for the both of us, Papa Smurf, because this smurf has no memory of it," Empath said, smiling back as he put Baby Smurfette back into the stroller. "This smurf will see you later."
Papa Smurf smiled as he watched Empath leave his laboratory with Baby Smurfette in her stroller. He could feel as if he was watching his son becoming a responsible adult Smurf with his marriage to Smurfette and the birth of their new child.
Just then, the HoloSmurf activated. "It is time for your counseling session, Papa Smurf. What smurfs to be on your mind today?"
"I'm just seeing my son Empath becoming just like me, HoloSmurf," Papa Smurf replied. "I could only see the days of my smurfing counsel to Empath smurfing to an end, as if I have nothing left to teach him in this life."
"Ah, yes, the classic student outsmurfing his teacher," HoloSmurf mused. "I'm sure that you still have years left in your life to smurf behind a legacy that your little Smurfs will follow all the days of their lives."
"Well, I intend to give everything I have to give to my little Smurfs, HoloSmurf," Papa Smurf said. "They're still my family, and I have to watch over them until it is time to smurf into the smurfy hereafter."
