In the last episode of the smurfs, they continue on their journey with Cupids blessing but never get to get go home. Were they lost in time?
Did they ever get to go back to Smurf Village?
Is there any truth to the rumors of the missing episodes?

The series was cancelled before there was ever an episode where they returned home, if that was ever Hanna-Barbera's intention for the characters at all. That was the recurring problem of most Saturday morning cartoon shows that had goal-oriented plots of "get all the plot coupons" or "get back home to X", that they never lasted long enough to reach that desired climax.

That season wasn't released on Brazilian TV, but on knowing about it (thanks to Bluebuddies) I had no interest in watching it on-line. Sad to know that Smurf cartoons TV show finished in such an awful way, just like Irwin Allen's 'Time Tunnel' and 'Land of Giants' (by the way the Smurfs last season may have been inspired by the first one). Because, as well as the characters of both series, the Smurfs didn't returned home. I'm quite sure Peyo mustn't have liked this HB idea at all. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

Another thing to keep in mind is that Smurfs episodes, back when they first were aired on Saturday morning in the 1980s, were aired in blocks of three or five rather than one episode at a time, so calling "Hearts 'N Smurfs" "the last Smurfs episode" may not be entirely accurate, as we don't know for sure if that was sequentially the last episode that actually aired in its original Saturday morning run.

In blocks of three or five? Now that's interesting.
This is the thing about this kind of experience. Even if you buy the DVD, it will never quite be the same as Being there at the time.

I wouldn't have liked it if I had a long-running cartoon show that ended on a note similar to Quantum Leap, which did have a final episode but had the main character never returning home when all is said and done. The Smurfs deserved much better than that.

For once, Vic is right. Even then, Dupuis Audiovisuel would've taken over the animated series in the 1990s and it would be more accurate to the comics. Canadian actors and actresses as sound-a-likes would've replaced the Hanna-Barbera cast. I'm surprised the creators in Belgium didn't go that route and had the Hanna-Barbera series rerun throughout the globe instead.
