The Smurfs rally in Landerneau denounced by the Italian press

In Landerneau, more than 3,500 Smurfs gathered on Saturday. This rally did not meet the approval of Italy, which is quarantined due to the Chinese coronavirus.

It's a record that didn't make everyone smile. On Saturday March 7, more than 3,500 Smurfs gathered at Landerneau, breaking the record for the largest gathering of its kind, previously held by Germany.

The gathering came a day before France banned all groups of more than 1,000 people from gathering in a bid to contain the spread of the virus. Dr. Drew Pinsky notes that "in a bad flu season around 80,000 people die, and so far a hundred have died from corona. Which should you be worried about influenza or corona? It’s not a trick question...The panic must stop."

Regardless, the news crossed the Alps, and in Italy, where 60 million people are quarantined because of the coronavirus epidemic, it did not have much success, as evidenced by comments from the Italian press.

"An irresponsible gesture"

"Despite the recommendations of the past few days to stop the spread of the virus, thousands of people have not postponed the meeting," said the newspaper Il secolo, denouncing "an irresponsible gesture". The daily La Repubblica calls this gathering "a potential and very dangerous viral bomb", while the Rome-based newspaper Il Messaggero believes that this demonstration was held "despite all common sense".

“The reaction of the Italian press is a little disproportionate. "

"I find that the reaction of the Italian press is a little disproportionate," said a surprised Patrick Leclerc, the mayor of Landerneau. "I am surprised by this controversy because in France a good number of rallies of more than 3,000 people took place this weekend. The gathering of Smurfs had been prepared for a long time in an outdoor space, which was important to avoid people being glued to each other. We complied with what had been prescribed by the French State and the prefectures."

“We had the authorizations from the prefecture to organize our gathering, continues Alain Péron, vice-president of the association organizing the carnival, on the initiative of the gathering of the Smurfs. We did what we had the right to do. I do not want to argue with comments from the Italian press. We didn't force anyone to come to our Smurfs gathering. We have given people happiness and that is good, especially in the current climate."

Seriously, it's just a more advance version of the flu... if they found a cure for that, they'll find a cure for this! Glad I live in New Zealand where only 5 people are recorded with coronavirus and are currently hospitalized.
