Okay, I thought "Why give the Smurfs a all-CGI big-screen reboot when you can create an all-CGI television series instead?" I was thinking in the style of the 2012 Turtles, using the basic appearance of the Smurfs in the "Johan and Peewit" comics, Gargamel's intention for capturing the Smurfs from the 2011 film series and the humour and character basics from the 80's cartoons (if the 2012 Turtles reused the idea of Hamato Yoshi being the same character as Splinter, I don't see why not).
Also, I learnt that Empath Smurf was created by VicGeorge in the same year when Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman created the TMNT! Awkward.

An all-CGI television reboot is actually a smurfy idea. A new generation of Smurf fans only know them from the movies, so they would already be pre-sold on a new TV show. I actually thought the Smurfs looked quite good in the first two films, but not everysmurf shares that opinion. That's why Kelly Asbury, the director for the next Smurf film, is scrapping that look for a new design that is more cartoony and faithful to Peyo's original comic books.
My idea for what a new Smurf TV series would be like is similar to my own Smurf fan art. Have the entire Smurf family from the old Hanna-Barbera show, including Grandpa, Nanny and the Smurflings, and add the more popular movie Smurfs like Gutsy, Crazy, Vexy and Hackus. That would be a way of bringing together both the movie fans and the comic book fans in a familiar setting.
As popular as CGI is, it's very time-consuming and labor intensive. The current Ninja Turtles series is a simple, stylized design that lends itself to puppet-like limited animation, to make more episodes in less time. It still looks good, though. A new Smurfs CGI series would most likely deal with the same issues and challenges.
