That's only good if you have a credit card. Otherwise, forget it.

You're very welcome, Smurfy1For2! I'm strongly considering getting them, especially since WarnerHomeVideo doesn't seem interested in putting out further complete Smurf seasons. If the video quality is better than free downloads like youtube or cartoonlair, it's very tempting!

I got the Specials Collection from Australia. If you've got a PC and VLC Media Player, getting the season sets from Australia may be the way to go.

I've never actually seen a place where I can buy the Aussie sets. What is VLC Media Player?

The Australian season sets can be found on eBay, if you select worldwide for your search.
VLC Media Player is a program for Windows that allows for playing various media files, including DVDs of all regions.

Thanks Vic. I will look into that. Is it possible to convert files regions to make copies of he DVD's that would play on U.S. region players?

>> Get a Universal DVD player and play any DVD from anywhere in the world. <<
How to Play Australian Smurf DVDs
You can buy all the Australian DVD sets from Amazon here. They have a large selection of the various Australian Smurf DVD releases.
Once you buy the discs you need to run them through DVD Decrypter. This is necessary because an American and British DVD player will refuse to play a Region 4 Australian DVD.
Use DVD Decrypter to Remove Region Coding:
1. Choose the 'Mode' menu, choose 'ISO', choose 'Read'. Then click the large DVD icon to decrypt the disc to an ISO file. Put in a blank DVD,
2. Choose the 'Mode' menu, choose 'ISO', choose 'Write'. Click "Source Please select a file" and choose the ISO file you just made. Then click the large DVD icon to copy the region free version to DVD.
Americans, Canadians and Japanese only:
Even though your disc is now region free you will need a PAL compatible DVD player. PAL is the video format for Australia. The United States, Canada and Japan use NTSC. So the region-free disc won't work in a normal American DVD player.
You can use a program like VLC on your computer because it won't care about PAL or NTSC. Most people won't want to watch movies or shows on their computer screen.
The easiest way is to leave the discs alone, and not worry about PAL, NTSC, and region-coding.
Easiest Way to Play Discs from Anywhere:
SmurfFan, to play the discs unmodified you need a NTSC / PAL Region-Free DVD Player which you can buy here. Just put the disc in and it will just work. American discs, Australian, British DVDs will all play properly on this type of player wherever you are in the world.

The sweet part is that the multi-region players are within the $50 price range.
Windows 7 does allow for a limited number of switches between regions for playing DVDs, after which you're stuck with one region forever.

Thanks guys. One last question. Is there a way to convert a PAL file to an NTSC file?

Nero Recode is part of Nero 11 Platinum and will convert from PAL to NTSC.
It automatically determines if you need PAL to NTSC @ 23.976 FPS, PAL to NTSC @ 29.97 FPS or PAL to NTSC @ 29.97 FPS. It will also automatically determine if you have a Progressive PAL disc (576P) or regular PAL (625 lines).
Converting from PAL to NTSC is not easy. You can spend many hours learning and using command-line programs like AviSynth and often end up with an unwatchable file. Nero Recode is a good way to convert from PAL to NTSC easily.

I hope my old hacked DVD player is still working so I can watch the Aussie smurfs DVD sets. I made it to set at "0" so it can play any DVD worldwide.

It should be noted that you need a DVD player and TV that can accept a PAL output (576i/25fps). I have a Vizio and most of those will work but many US HD-TVs won't do it.
Otherwise even though region free players will work you are getting converted PAL to 480i/29.97fps and that makes the animation "choppy".
Region free is only part of the problem. FYI Smurfs like most TV Shows have corrected pitch so if you manually converting them to NTSC fps you need to fix the pitch as it was correct.
