Well yes it is, in 'Gargamel's Time Trip,' you get to see when he first met the Smurfs, and Brainy was the first. Of course, there's plenty of other episodes he gets capture by Gargamel in though. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

but what i don't understand about the coin episode was how they weren't completely made into to coins, like they were able to talk

It's because Gargamel fails miserably at magic, even when he HAS all of the ingredients he needs to do his little alchemy experiment, he still massively fails.
I always thought Gargamel's sole purpose was a to "chase" the Smurfs, but if he ever caught them and held onto to them he would have absolutely no idea what to do with them.
A more powerful wizard such as Balthazar would easily have turned them into gold.
It is one character quirk in the new movie which I found bemusing, that the live action Gargamel was actually "CAPABLE" of magic. He presented a real danger to the Smurfs unlike his cartoon and comic counterparts.
