Terwijl de Smurfen druk bezig zijn met zingen, dansen en smurfbessen plukken, stormt de boze tovenaar Gargamel hun eens zo vredige dorpje binnen. Tijdens de vlucht stuurt Klungelsmurf per ongeluk Grote Smurf, Smurfin en een aantal anderen de verkeerde kant op. Pardoes vallen ze in een vreemd zwart gat en belanden ze, zelf maar drie appels hoog, in de echte Big Apple: New York. Het zwarte gat sluit zich snel, maar niet voor het Gargamel en zijn gemene kat Azraël ook gelukt is om er doorheen te komen. De slechterik is nog altijd op zoek naar de geheime toverdrank van de Smurfen om daarmee zijn magische krachten te versterken. De Smurfen moeten zo snel mogelijk een manier zoeken om terug naar hun dorp te keren, voor Gargamel hen te pakken krijgt...

I just watched the trailer and it appeared that
they got some parts of the movie in 2D hand drawn!
That's really smurfs me up!
But i would be even better if they doing the new
series in 2D hand drawn!
3D CG is good looking as always but what matters
is the old fashioned hand drawn style!

A jump from 3D CGI to 2D hand-drawn animation for the movie sequel just doesn't seem appropriate.

I know so i hoping them to make it all in
2D hand drawn it's so much more natural than 3D CGI.
2D looked clean and very polished similar to
winnie the pooh movie in this year.
Many loved the CGI smurfs but if they have a chance
please go back to its old 2D hand drawn glory once
in a while.
