Oh and for those who may not know what an avatar is, it's just a character you control (like a player's character in a 2D/3D game). But the Smurf avatars allow many actions compared to most games' limited movement (walk, run, jump, etc).

Hi, Sassette. I finally found this post I made years ago! Now that I'm a registered user (dunno why I wasn't before), I'll answer your question (if you're still around).
Anyway, again, I didn't make these avatars, specifically, but how long it takes to make them depends on the modeller. These are RenderWare script (RWX) avatars and can only be used in Active Worlds (another one by someone else--search for "smurf"; no direct link). I've seen a smurf avatar for Half-Life (the original) here and here.
3D Studio Max Smurf model
Lightwave 3D render of Papa Smurf and a generic smurf
unknown 3D modelling program renders and test animations (AVIs) of Hefty Smurf
I made a bunch of smurf avatars (generic, Handy, Brainy, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Greedy, Vanity, Grandpa, Hefty, Lazy, Grouchy, Miner, and Harmony). The base model probably took me a couple hours initially, then after tweaks, probably a couple more hours--and it still needs some work.

The links in your previous message are cool...the renderings look very good. As for the last link, unfortunately you need to be a member to view the attachment pics I would hate to become a memeber just to see a pic then have no use for the site afterwords.
But thanks for sharing the other cool sites Eep
Stay Smurfy, Raven Child.

Yea, I had to become a member too but if you're worried about giving out your email address, you can use an anonymous email site like mailinator.com.

You could try Second Life but as far as I know there are just avatars and not an entire simulator (part of the virtual world) devoted to smurfs. I wanted to make one years ago when I made a lot of smurf stuff in SL but could never find a sponsor (I even emailed Peyo!) and I have since lost most of work after I was unjustly banned. There is a smurf village on someone's land right now but you can't move in or whatever. http://www.flickr.com/photos/eep2/ to see its pic and, if you have SL, you can teleport right to it with the link in the description. You can also see the SL smurf stuff I made at http://www.flickr.com/photos/eep2/sets/72157611484215413/

I should mention that I made these in Second Life, not Active Worlds.
