Hey guys, I just thought I would share some MS-DOS Adlib song files I made.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THIS SOUND CARD The Adlib sound card was the fourth out of all sound cards ever invented for the MS-DOS series, it was first introduced in 1987 on the 12-bit era MS-DOS 3.3 (which is a member of the MS-DOS 3.x). It's sound capabilities were quite good compared to the PCJr/1000 sound card which was the second sound card, but the third one called Covox Speech Thing wasn't really made to create music, it was to created sampled voices. You had a choice of 4 waveforms (eight on the later ones for MS-DOS 4 and up) to be used on the original waveform and the backup waveform. You could either control the synthesis with FM to use modulation of the two to create fancy sounding waveforms or additive synthesis which is just basically adding the two together sounding like simply two instruments played together. There's an ADSR envelope and you can choose between 16 different lengths (actually 17 if you count "0"). 1 is the longest length and F is the shortest length for both of the waveforms to adjust your synthesized instrument. Other features include tremolo, vibrato, KSR and an altered sustain/release rate. I have to say for 1987, it was a good sound card for a 12-bit computer and it was mainstream along with the Windows 3.1 MIDI and the very poor PC Speaker from 1981. I know the PC Speaker was the first sound card, but the sound specifications sound below average.
WHAT DO I USE TO CREATE AD-LIBS? I use a program called Ad-Lib Tracker 2, it's one of the easiest Adlib creators for me though I had a bit of trouble using it. Then, I watched a tutorial and found out that if you don't want any attack rate, you had to set it at F instead of 0, because if you had it at 0, the instrument wouldn't even sound at all.
ANYWAYS HERE'S MY FIRST ADLIB!

Here's an early sounding one I made. I labelled myself as "Mysterious Maniacs" on this song. XD
"Why Bother", on Adlib Soundcard for MS-DOS 3
No this song was not really made in 1988, I made it sound like it was from that year though.
The original song was actually 5 minutes long, I just looped it twice for the MP3 version as the song restarts on Pattern 3 once the song ends.
