Though this isn't a Smurf-related topic, I have been contemplating doing a page based on an interesting case of what superhero comicbook fans call "retconning" -- the act of revising the history of an established character, changing various elements in it usually to eliminate unnecessary or undesirable parts of that history -- in Jim Davis' Garfield comics strip, called "Where's Lyman?" For those who don't know, Lyman is a character that Jim Davis developed early in Garfield's history who moved in to Jim Arbuckle's house to live with him, and from that moving in came Garfield's rival Odie. Lyman was part of the Garfield strip and history from 1978 until sometime in the early 1980s when he inexplicably stopped appearing. Jim Davis in 1984 explained the loss of Lyman in "Garfield: His 9 Lives" by literally rewriting part of Garfield's history, saying that Jim Arbuckle had bought Odie from the pet store to be a companion to Garfield, thus in essence Lyman had never been in the Arbuckle residence to begin with. Anyway, it's an interesting and amusing case of self-revision that I'm not sure what to do with other than mentioning about it.
