Guinness World Records - The Smurfs
The Guinness World Records is the world's authority on record breaking achievements since 1955. And The Smurfs have made it in the records books! There is a world record for collecting Smurfs. There is also a world record for the greatest number of people dressed up as Smurfs!

Guinness World Records - Most People Dressed as Smurfs
The most people dressed as Smurfs is 2,762, and was achieved by Dä Traditionsverein (Germany) in Lauchringen, Germany, on February 16, 2019.
The event was organized in connection with a regional carnival in Germany.

Guinness World Records - Largest Collection of Smurf Memorabilia
The largest collection of Smurf memorabilia consists of 11,455 items and was achieved by Gerda Scheuers (USA) in Ripon, Wisconsin, USA, on December 1, 2018.
Gerda is the existing Guinness World Records titleholder in this category, and beat her 2014 record by adding more than 5,000 new pieces to her collection.

The Guinness World Record for largest Smurfs collection is in Ripon, Wisconsin.

RIPON — The largest collection of unique Smurf items in the world is in Ripon, Wisconsin.
Gerda Scheuers holds the Guinness World Record title with a collection of more than 11,455 unique collectibles.
“I mean look at them. They’re always smiling. What’s not to be happy about?" Scheuer said.
Inside her Fond du Lac County home are two rooms dedicated entirely to her Smurf collection. That doesn't include all the other Smurf memorabilia scattered around her house. Of course, there are stuffed animals and figurines, but Scheuers likes to focus on collecting everyday items.
In her collection are: beach towels, hair brushes, tooth brushes, lip balm, pencils, plates, cups, tissue paper, ketchup, mayo, baby rattles, gum soothers, books, lamp shades, rugs, candy, cookies, popcorn buckets, watches, binders, backpacks, puzzles, fans, posters and there is even more not mentioned (believe it or not).
“Why. That’s the biggest one - Why are you doing this? - and the answer is simple. I have fun doing it. There’s no reason other than I have fun doing it.”
Scheuers, 47, began collecting when she was about six or seven years old. It all started as a small fight with her brother over one specific Smurf.
“They were a childhood toy my brother and I played with, and he was playing with it and one day he broke one. He was chewing on it, and I was like, 'nope, nope you can’t be be breaking my stuff.'”
So she took the toy from her brother and protected it. Forty years and thousands of Smurfs later, Sheuers has two Guinness World Record plaques to show for her dedication.
The value of her collection isn't clear, but she says items range from $0.50 to $10,000.
"I think easily I could probably get $100,000 or more if I sold everything off individually," she said. "I honestly never really added it fully up. I'm just going by some of the bigger ones."
As for what will happen to the collection when she is gone, Scheuers isn't positive. That decision is up to her kids.
"I can’t see myself selling it, so sadly I think it's just going to fall on my kids when I pass to probably sell it off."
While Scheuers holds the world record, she isn't keeping track of her collection as much anymore. It's tedious, time consuming and not her biggest priority. In fact, she invites others to take her title.
"You know, if they want to go for it, go for it. You know, I don’t mind sharing the spotlight when it comes to that. There’s some great collections that need to be showcased," she said.
That doesn't mean she isn't collecting anymore. At the time of our interview, she said she was waiting for multiple boxes to be shipped to her house. So she continues to add to her record-setting collection. Will that record be hers forever? Only time will tell.

Gerda Scheuers started collecting The Smurfs memorabilia when she was around six years old. She and her brother played with The Smurfs toys together when she realized she wanted to protect and keep them from getting damaged. She has been collecting The Smurfs ever since.
Shceuers never thought she would be a known figure in The Smurfs community, but after submitting her application in 2018 became the Guinness World Record holder. Scheuer's collection is worth around $100,000 and is made of over 13,000 items. In this episode of The Vault, Scheuers shows us The Smurfs items from around the world.

Thousands Dress as Smurfs to Break World Record
The group Dä Traditionsverein organized the event and managed to rope in almost 3000 people. Covered in blue paint and wearing red and white hats, their objective was clear - to break the world record for the largest group of people dressed as Smurfs.
There were very strict rules in place to make the cut - in order to be counted, participants couldn't show any non-blue skin. They could dress as Smurf, Papa Smurf with his trademark red cap and a white beard or Smurfette with blonde hair and a white skirt or dress.
Characters like the evil wizard Gargamel were strictly off limits.

World Record of People Dressed as Smurfs
Thousands of people paint themselves blue and gather in Germany to break the world record for the most Smurfs in one place.
Nearly 3,000 people came together to break a world record for the most human Smurfs in one place. In total, 2,762 blue-painted and white-capped participants met in Lauchringen on the Upper Rhine, Germany to break the record that had previously belonged to students in Wales. The Smurf fans descended on the village to break the world record of 2,510, set by Welsh students in 2009. Three years ago, there was an attempt to break the record, which was set in 2009 and stood at 2,510, but it failed.
Today, organisers were delighted to announce they had surpassed the old mark with children and adults all taking part. The crowds were in high spirits as they took part in the event, enjoying beer and sunshine in an array of outfits
The ever-popular Smurfs were created by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford in 1958. And today's event showed that the cartoon characters are still loved by many, as the near-3000 strong crowd enjoyed the sun in an array of Smurf-inspired outfits.

Guinness World Records - 3076 Smurfs Gathered in Single Location
It's a new Guinness World Record for Smurfs!
"The most people dressed as Smurfs is 3,076, and was achieved by Association Pays de Landerneau-Daoulas (France) in Landerneau, France, on 17 May 2025
The attempt was organized by the Association Pays de Landerneau-Daoulas, a local group responsible for cultural events in the region, and marked their third effort to break this particular record — following an unsuccessful attempt in 2020 due to incomplete evidence and a second in 2023, which was disrupted by rain. In the lead-up to the release of The Smurfs Movie in July 2025, Paramount Pictures offered to support the town's long-standing dream, launching a local campaign that reignited community spirit — even prompting the mayor to issue a humorous decree banning bar service to Smurfs between 5 and 7 p.m. to maximize participation."
