Here's the full write-up of the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story "Empath's Honeymoon".
-----
Chapter 1

Empath's personal journal.
Recently this smurf and Smurfette just got married. Neither of us believed it would ever happen, despite the fact that this smurf has seen it before in a vision from the future, but after ten long years of waiting it finally took place, and the both of us seemed relieved that such a moment in our lives has come to pass. Smurfette has been waiting for that moment ever since she was created and then recreated as a real Smurf, though finding the right Smurf for her to be married to among the nearly hundred male Smurfs she had available to choose from was a challenge. This smurf has sensed that Papa Smurf has enjoyed a married life with his wife before they were separated and before his wife ultimately died. But this will be the first time that this smurf will experience it for myself, and although this smurf does feel a bit selfish about enjoying it knowing that all this smurf's fellow Smurfs will be denied the opportunity of enjoying it themselves, this smurf feels that they are willing to sacrifice their future happiness for this smurf's. Right now this smurf is mentally recording this journal for future inscription into a hard copy since this smurf will be away from the Smurf Village for a week of enjoying a honeymoon with Smurfette.

Empath and Smurfette looked down from the gondola that the stork is carrying them in at the vast stretch of ocean below them. Though they have traveled far from the village before on various occasions, it seems that this travel by stork is taking them someplace really far.
"Oh, Empath, where are we smurfing to on this honeymoon of ours?" Smurfette asked.
"It's someplace that Marco Smurf has found on one of his seafaring adventures, Smurfette," Empath answered. "According to him, it's a really beautiful island, and the people that live on it are for the most part hospitable."
"That reminds me...I've never smurfed on anything like a honeymoon before," Smurfette said. "What exactly is that?"
"A honeymoon is a ritual where a married couple spend some time away from loved ones and other people to...consummate their love for one another," Empath explained. "It's not something commonly practiced among the Smurfs even if there were other female Smurfs in the village for the other Smurfs to marry."
"But to travel so far just to be to able to enjoy ourselves...it must be something really special to smurf," Smurfette said.
"That's how much your fellow Smurfs love you, Smurfette," Empath said. "If they think that letting you have a week to spend with the Smurf you love and married will make them happy, then this smurf thinks that it's worth it. And this smurf also thinks that Marco Smurf has made the right choice for its location."
"Smurfing of which...there it is!" Smurfette pointed out, as they saw the island toward which the stork was descending upon.
Empath saw it for himself and indeed the whole island looked beautiful. It was very lush and filled with all types of scenery that made every other place the Smurfs went to look pale in comparison. It made Empath feel embarrassed that the more creative Smurfs weren't there with him to take in what his eyes have beheld.
Empath and Smurfette held onto each other as the stork descended unto a spot on the island's beach where they disembarked. The stork lowered its neck to allow Empath to unstrap the bags of luggage that it was carrying.
"Now what is this place smurfed again?" Smurfette asked, looking at the surroundings.
"Utopia Island," Empath answered. "It's the home of the Utopii, which Marco Smurf have stayed with when he visited this island."
"Is their village far to reach, Empath?" Smurfette asked. "I surely don't want to smurf for miles smurfing a wedding dress in this heat!"
"It's a short walk from the beach at this location, Smurfette, from what Marco had told this smurf about the island," Empath said. "I'll worry about carrying the bags...we just need to go up along that trail in front of us that will lead us to their village."
"Before we smurf anywhere, Empath, I think we can smurf yourself just a little more comfortable," Smurfette said as she loosened up the tie and unbuttoned the shirt jacket he was wearing.
"You're just doing it because you like to see this smurf not wearing a shirt as usual," Empath said, smiling as Smurfette was making the adjustments.
"Well, you can't hide what you smurf like from me now, Empath," Smurfette said, also smiling. "If we're going to be smurfing together like this for all time, you better get used to the fact that we'll be smurfing a whole lot more of each other than we're used to."
"This smurf isn't complaining about that, Smurfette," Empath said. "This smurf would be honored to give you what you heart desires, no matter how embarrassing it may be to this smurf." He then picked up the bags. "As we approach the village, you should let this smurf handle the appropriate greetings to the Utopii, according to what Marco Smurf has told this smurf about such interactions. They're generally a laid-back people and very friendly, but we don't want to do something that will offend them in any way."
Smurfette sighed. "To you, my brave Smurf traveling companion and guide, the smurf is yours to lead me on."

As Empath went up the path that led to the village, Smurfette couldn't help but notice the flowers that were growing alongside it. "Aren't they so beautiful?" Smurfette said as she was looking at them. "Oh, what I wouldn't smurf just to have one of them smurfing in my garden back home!"
"You should be careful, Smurfette!" Empath warned her. "Marco said that the flowers that grow on this island are...very different!"
"They're just flowers, Empath," Smurfette said as she went over to one of the blossoms to get a smell of its fragrance. "How different can they be from anything that smurfs in our forest?"
"Hey, lady, you can look but you shouldn't touch us!" a voice came from one of the flowers.
"That's how different these flowers are, Smurfette!" Empath said.
"That's impossible, Empath!" Smurfette said. "Flowers don't normally talk!"
"And I suppose we're just here for you to sniff and pluck out of the ground like any other plant!" one of the flowers said.
Smurfette turned to the flower she was about to sniff. "Did you just smurf to me?"
"Yeah, and I'm not the only flower that can speak on this island," the flower answered. "We are what you would call Petalumas. We're special living plants that only grow on this island."
"But why only on this island? Can't you smurf anywhere else?" Smurfette asked.
"Because this is a very special island, sweetie, which is home to lots more than just us and the Utopii," the flower said. "Besides, us Petalumas don't really take kindly to people just plucking us out of the ground and planting us anywhere that they feel like."
"Well, is there any flower that I can smurf on this island that I won't have smurfing at me like that?" Smurfette asked, not liking the idea of being sassed at by a flower.
"All I can say is that if a flower on this island doesn't talk to you, then it's a flower you can pick," the Petaluma said. "But be careful around the various types of plants here, because not all of them are friendly like us!"
"I don't intend to smurf my honeymoon smurfing to flowers that smurf back to me," Smurfette said.
"Wait," the Petaluma said. "You and this other blue being beside you are married?"
"As a matter of fact, we have been recently married, Petaluma," Empath answered. "How is it that you know anything about marriages and honeymoons?"
"Because that's what the Utopii live for," the Petaluma said. "They like celebrating marriages and often make a big show of it. Of course, it's not actually often that any of the Utopii do get married, except for its two leaders, Papi and Mami Utopi, but they still make a big show of it just the same. Of course, when it comes to male and female strangers visiting them, they will think that you two aren't even married yet, so just be prepared for the reception you'll get when you meet them."
"Not married?" Smurfette asked. "They can't even smurf that me and Empath are smurfing the same types of hats?"
"It's a different culture, Smurfette," Empath said. "It's most likely that they don't even wear hats."
"With what the Utopii grow on their heads, they don't even need hats like you do," the Petaluma said. "Frankly, I don't see why the both of you need to wear hats at all!"
"It's part of our culture, Petaluma," Empath answered. "Smurfs generally feel that Smurfs that don't wear hats are not real Smurfs at all."
"And besides that," Smurfette added, her voice dropping to a whisper, "male Smurfs are actually bald."
"Smurfette!" Empath exclaimed.
"Oh, so that's why the other blue being needs to wear a hat," the Petaluma said, understanding. "I can see that he's starting to turn reddish-purple right now."
"Oh, don't mind Empath," Smurfette said. "He's just easily embarrassed when he has to smurf in very little clothes. Personally, that's the way I like him."
"Anyway, he doesn't seem to like that you're spending time talking to a flower," the Petaluma said, "so I might as well just be quiet, go back to looking pretty, and let you two go off on your merry way."
"Well, it was...interesting smurfing with you," Smurfette said. "I hope that I can smurf with you again before we leave!"
"Just remember, my dear...be careful around the flowers on this island," the Petaluma said as it watched Empath and Smurfette continue along the path.
"That was really strange, Empath," Smurfette said. "Normally I smurf to my flowers, but I hardly had flowers smurfing back to me. I wonder if there's any other strange things smurfing on this island."
"Marco wasn't on this island long enough to find out everything about it, Smurfette," Empath said. "Maybe we could use the time on our honeymoon to do some exploring."
"And I thought this was going to be a quiet private getaway for the two of us, Empath," Smurfette said. "Just smurfing on the beach with nothing to do, no Smurfs to worry about or even bother us."
"We could do that, Smurfette, but then it wouldn't be much fun," Empath said. "So why not use the time we have together to go on a private adventure that none of the other Smurfs have to know about -- besides all the beautiful scenery that they're missing?"
"It smurfs like our lives are always about adventure, Empath, both together and apart from each other," Smurfette said. "But the parts the other Smurfs don't have to know about...I can smurf with it!"
"This smurf is certain that we'll have plenty of time for that on our honeymoon, Smurfette!" Empath said, smiling as they continued up the path.

Back in the Smurf Village, the Smurfs were busy cleaning up after the wedding and the reception. The Smurflings in particular didn't like having to do this part of the wedding along with the grown-ups.
"Well, Empath and Smurfette's wedding was fun while it lasted," Sassette said.
"And the sad part is that this may be the only wedding we'll ever have for any Smurf," Nat said.
"Unless they smurf one for both Brainy and Clumsy," Slouchy jested.
"Brainy and Clumsy?" Snappy said. "Ugh, I just can't picture Papa Smurf having to smurf at the altar and marry those two Smurfs."
"I was just kidding about that, Snappy," Slouchy said. "But the way those two Smurfs hang around together all the time, it does make you wonder."
"I'm sorry to say that Mother Nature just wouldn't approve of that kind of union between two Smurfs," Nat said.
"But why wouldn't she, if two male Smurfs are truly in love with each other?" Sassette asked.
"Mother Nature and Father Time never meant for that kind of union to be smurfed together when they smurfed the world into existence, Sassy," Nat answered. "Creatures like us wouldn't be able to smurf together families so that we could grow and multiply and fill the earth."
"But aren't there enough creatures on this earth already?" Snappy asked.
"Well, what if there was some sort of natural disaster that smurfed out a good deal of a certain type of creature, Snap?" Nat said. "How would they resmurf their numbers in case that happened so that they wouldn't smurf out of existence?"
"I just want the grown-up Smurfs to be happy," Slouchy said. "It's just a shame that Gargamel didn't create more than one Smurfette for the rest of them."
"It's probably for the best that he didn't, Slouchy, or else who knows what could have happened before we even smurfed here," Nat said.
"Anyway, I sure wouldn't want to smurf my days being married to Sassette when we smurf of age to be married," Snappy said.
"Don't worry about that, Snappy," Sassette said. "The feeling is very much mutual."

Meanwhile, Papa Smurf was with Grandpa Smurf and Nanny discussing about their departure back to Smurfling Island when he heard a knock on his door. He opened it and found it was Handy with Architect.
"Excuse our intrusion, Papa Smurf, but we both wanted to show you something," Handy said.
"Well, what is it?" Papa Smurf asked.
"Since Empath is going to be moving into Smurfette's house, we were planning to surprise them with a little welcome-home present in the form of a remodeled house for the couple," Architect said.
"Just wait until you see what we have in smurf for them," Handy said.
Architect unrolled his blueprint of the plans for Smurfette's remodeled house on the table for Papa Smurf to see. He stood over the table and looked at the designs while Grandpa Smurf and Nanny looked on.
"Smurfadoodles, that seems like a mite bit much for both Empath and Smurfette," Grandpa Smurf said.
"I'd say so myself, Grampers," Nanny said. "But frankly I think those two desmurf a bit more room for themselves."
"That seems very impressive, Handy and Architect," Papa Smurf said. "But when you do plan on starting this project?"
"Hopefully by tomorrow, when everything is smurfed away and I can assemble a crew that would smurf together on it, Papa Smurf," Handy answered.
"So is this thing a go, Papa Smurf?" Architect asked.
"You've really outsmurfed yourself this time, Architect," Papa Smurf said. "Handy, you have my permission to start smurfing on this project immediately. You can smurf as many Smurfs as you like to assist you."
"Oh, thank you, Papa Smurf," Handy said, sounding pleased.
After Handy and Architect left, Papa Smurf was left alone with Grandpa Smurf and Nanny. "Maybe we can smurf off our plans to return until the couple return from their honeymoon, Papa Smurf," Grandpa Smurf said.
"I would agree with Grampers there," Nanny said. "Besides, I would like to hear how their honeymoon smurfed between them."
"You're welcome to stay as long as you like," Papa Smurf said. "This village is very much your home as is Smurfling Island. We wouldn't want you to be smurfed out of here when you're not ready."
"That's very smurfy of you, my son, but I don't want you to think that...," Grandpa began to say.
"Oh, nonsense," Nanny interrupted. "We're family too. If our grandsmurfs need us, this is where we're smurfing until the time smurfs when they don't."
Grandpa chuckled. "I don't think I can argue my way out of your reasoning there, Nanny."

Chapter 2

Soon they reached the gates of the village, with two of its people, the Utopii, guarding it. Empath and Smurfette could see what kind of people they would be dealing with, that for a laid-back friendly people that Marco claims that they are, they seem to be very cautious.
"There it is, Smurfette," Empath said as he stopped several paces short of its entrance and put down the bags he was carrying.
"What are you doing, Empath?" Smurfette asked as she watched him remove his shirt jacket entirely.
"Marco told this smurf that the Utopii aren't very fond of males being in their village wearing anything that covers their torsos, Smurfette," Empath explained. "If we're going to be among them, then this smurf must abide by their particular customs."
"Not that I have a problem with it, Empath," Smurfette said, "but I do wonder if you're comfortable smurfing around like that with other people if you're not comfortable smurfing around like that with your fellow Smurfs."
"It's all a matter of function and comfort, Smurfette, like it has been when this smurf started wearing Smurf clothes," Empath said. "This smurf usually never wears anything less just to impress somebody."
Smurfette giggled at that. "Well, you still smurf handsome anyway!"
Empath draped the shirt jacket over his shoulder as he picked up the bags and approached the guards at the gates. "State your business, stranger!" one of them said.
"Utopi hopi en mopi la topi gopi elopi nopi er fopi katopi za qopi," Empath said with a respectful bow.
"Ah, you respect us with our greeting," the other guard said. "We bid you welcome to our village. You may speak with our leader Papi Utopi. He has been expecting you."
Empath nodded as he and Smurfette passed through the gates to enter the village. As they entered, they saw that the Utopii were rotund people of various colors that wore skirts made of palm leaves, with head hair that seem to be nothing more than palm leaves growing from their heads. The village consisted mostly of huts with rounded doors to accommodate the round appearance of its people. To Smurfette, who has never seen an Utopi before, they seemed sillier to look at than the Smurfs or anyone she has ever met in her travels.
Empath and Smurfette reached the center of the village where two of its people were standing. Empath guessed that the other Utopi was female due to the fact that she was wearing a top covering part of her chest.
"You must be Empath, and the female accompanying you is this Smurfette that Marco has mentioned," the male Utopi said. "I am Papi Utopi, the head leader of our village, and this is my beautiful wife Mami Utopi, who is our second leader. It is my understanding that you have come here because you seek to be married."
"Well, actually, Papi Utopi, we were just smurfing from a...," Smurfette began to speak.
"That is correct, Papi Utopi," Empath answered, cutting off Smurfette's reply. "That is, it's the first time our people, the Smurfs, actually had two people that fell in love with each other to the point that they want to be united together as a couple, and your culture seems to honor and respect marriages, so we wish to do this according to your customs."
"I see," Papa Utopi said, stroking the palm leaf growing under his nose that appeared to be his moustache. "Then we'll need to separate you two from each other so that we can properly test you two and make sure that you're well suited for each other. Then the two of you will be united with a special feast where you will pledge yourselves to be soulmates for all time. Until then, we will make you feel that you're part of our family as you offer your services for a day in return for the hospitality and the free use of our part of the island to do with as you see fit."
"We have to work just to enjoy a honeymoon?" Smurfette asked, not liking the sound of it, or the idea of being separated from Empath just to go through another marriage ceremony.
"It's only for a day, Smurfette," Empath explained. "If we're going to spend a week here for our honeymoon, we might as well go along with their customs."
"My men and my wife's women will make the appropriate accommodations for the two of you," Papa Utopi said. "For now, though, we must make sure you are dressed in the manner of our people, which means the two of you cannot be seen together until you are married." Then he clapped his hands and some male and female Utopii showed up, the males around Empath and the females around Smurfette.
"Oh, Empath," Smurfette said, starting to sound worried.
"Don't worry, Smurfette," Empath assured her. "You'll be fine, and this is only for a day. Besides, we do need to get out of these clothes sooner or later."
Smurfette sighed as she took one last look at her husband before she and Empath were led away in separate directions. The honeymoon was already starting to sound a little less appealing to her, particularly where they are spending it.

Empath had to admit, though, that for his being properly dressed among the Utopii, they allowed him to go about wearing his swim briefs, which he claims he usually wears just for the comfort they give him.
"The thing about our people, Empath, is that the males must always show that they are strong and that they are not afraid to show their strength at all times," Papi Utopi explained. "That is why the Utopii men wear very little in the way of clothes, besides the fact that this island has never seen the type of climates your people have seen. I can see that your skin tone seems to take a slightly reddish appearance whenever you appear in the clothes like what you're wearing now."
"This smurf was mostly raised among the Psyches, Papi Utopi, and they tend to see nudity as an embarrassment, not as something to be proud of," Empath said. "This smurf's fellow Smurfs only have to worry about that if their everyday clothes are missing, especially their hats. If any of this smurf's people is proud to appear in little clothes, it's most likely Hefty or Vanity Smurf."
"No male should ever need to feel embarrassed about themselves if that's what they are, Empath," Papi Utopi said. "They need to feel free to express themselves as males so that females are able to see that they are strong and they are not afraid to use that strength to protect them and care for them. For that, you must prove that you will not be afraid to appear unto your beloved as the male who will express himself fully and without shame, whether he is with her or apart from her."
Empath swallowed hard at that thought. "If that's what it takes, Papi Utopi, then this smurf will bravely face the challenge set before me. When will this test start?"
"You will know when the time comes, my young friend," Papi Utopi said. "For now, though, we will need your help in some building projects that my men could use a hand in. If you're not afraid to appear among them as you are, then I will let you give them whatever help you can offer."
"This smurf is at your disposal, Papi Utopi," Empath said as they left the hut that he was changing clothes in.

Smurfette felt relieved to get out of the wedding dress and into something a bit more simple, such as the sarong that Mami Utopi's women had offered her to wear.
"The thing about our people, Smurfette, is that the females must always show that they are beautiful and that they are not afraid to show their beauty at all times," Mami Utopi explained. "That is why the Utopii women dress the way they do, even though this is more the place for any woman to appear in the manner that we appear. You seem to wear a great deal more clothes than any female should ever have to wear."
"Well, that was my wedding dress, Mami Utopi," Smurfette said. "It always smurfs more appropriate for a female to smurf in more clothes than a male smurfs, and to be more well-smurfed than a male. Besides, I tend to like clothes a lot, and I could never seem to smurf enough clothes for me to wear every day."
"You shouldn't have to hide yourself under clothes if you are a female, Smurfette," Mami Utopi said. "Even though we must protect parts that are not appropriate for everyone to see, we need to feel free to express ourselves as females so that the males are able to see that we are beautiful creatures not just on the outside, but on the inside as well, and that we are not afraid to use our beauty to protect the men that we love and care for them. For that, you must prove that you will not be afraid to appear unto your beloved as the female who will express herself fully and without shame, whether she is with her beloved or apart from him."
"Hmmm, that's going to be a challenge," Smurfette said, pondering what that test of her character is going to include. "But if this is for Empath, I'd be willing to smurf anything to be with him forever. So when is this test going to smurf?"
"You will know it when it happens, my dear," Mami Utopi said. "For now, though, my girls will need a hand in some food preparations. I hope you will be able to give them assistance in this kind of task."
"Greedy smurfed me how to cook, Mami Utopi," Smurfette said. "I should smurf my way around a kitchen, if that's what you're asking for."
"Then they will show you what you need to do," Mami Utopi said as some female Utopi entered the hut to take Smurfette into the kitchen.

Back in the Smurf Village, Tapper and Duncan McSmurf were having a quiet conversation with each other at the tavern, the both of them feeling glad that they were back in their normal clothes after the wedding.
"I could only wonder what the couple are smurfing right now on their first day of being husband and wife together," Duncan said.
"I would imagine that they're getting settled in before parsmurfing of the private pleasures between themselves, my good Duncan," Tapper said. "Other than that, only the Almighty Himself knows."
"You're wishing that it could be you with Smurfette right about now, laddie, just like I am," Duncan said.
"I am rather envious of the privilege Smurfette is smurfing to Empath, and I could wish that I were in Empath's place if not for the fact that this is what the Almighty intended to happen," Tapper said.
"I can't see how you can be so calm and content about it, when every Smurf is probably thinking they would want to be the one who is married to Smurfette and enjoying those private pleasures," Duncan said.
"I am not saying that the days ahead will not be a challenge to me or to the rest of us at all, my friend," Tapper said. "I am just saying that whatever state I happen to smurf in, whether married or single, I know that the Almighty will sustain me and smurf me under the shadow of His wings, to keep my heart content with the things that He wants to smurf through me."
"Well, whatever smurfs you happy in the long smurf," Duncan said. "Me, I just might smurf you up on the offer of becoming a child of the Almighty if I don't have someone else of the other *** for me to smurf my life with."
Just then, Polaris Psyche entered the tavern. "Greetings, my fellow Polaris," Tapper said. "So how smurfs the rest of your day following the wedding?"
"This one is trying to maintain some semblance of order now that the festivities have ceased," Polaris said. "However, this one cannot help having his mind distracted with the thoughts of Empath and Smurfette at this point in the day."
"You're not the only one, laddie," Duncan said. "I'm sure the couple are enjoying themselves even as we smurf."
"I can undersmurf the feeling everybody's having right now, Polaris," Tapper said. "Being the luckiest Smurf in the world as Empath is does mean he's going to attract a lot of envy from those who don't smurf his good fortune."
"You do have feelings for Smurfette, don't you, my boy?" Duncan asked.
"This one does admit that Smurfette is a beautiful and attractive female Smurf, and that this one does enjoy her company in the rare occasions that we do spend time together with each other," Polaris said.
"That's rather brave of you to confess that part of yourself, my friend," Tapper said.
"But you're not smurfing of those times when you'd really like to be alone with her...for personal pleasures," Duncan said.
"This one usually doesn't entertain such thoughts as having any sort of physical intimacy with Smurfette, Duncan," Polaris said. "That doesn't mean that this one doesn't find those times of being physically near Smurfette to be...stimulating."
"That's between you and the Almighty, Polaris, but I understand how you feel," Tapper said. "There are those moments when Smurfette's presence can be so stimulating that I'm afraid she's going to notice what's smurfing on in the nether regions when I'm near her."
Duncan chuckled. "The religious laddie fearing he's smurfing to Hades all because he's smurfing a banana in his pants around a beautiful lassie."
"In any case, this one can only hope for Empath and Smurfette's happiness with each other as they enjoy themselves in their marital seclusion during the week," Polaris said.

For the rest of the day, Empath and Smurfette had spent it apart from each other, working the various tasks that were laid out for the men and women of the Utopii tribe. Empath helped the men dig wells, build fences, plow fields, fell trees, and all the time he got to know the Utopii very well. They didn't seem all that different from his fellow Smurfs, who appear to enjoy working together on various tasks in the village without much complaining. Of course, he did hear constant talk about the women they intend to marry within their tribe someday, of how beautiful they are, that they emit a rather personal scent to lure a specific male to them so that he would be theirs forever.
"What kind of scent does this Smurfette of yours emit?" one of the Utopi men asked.
"None that this smurf could smell," Empath answered. "Male Smurfs aren't usually attracted to the smell of females, but rather to their physical appearance and their personality."
"And how many Smurfettes are there in your village?" another Utopi asked.
"Just one adult female, unfortunately," Empath answered. "And she wasn't born in the village, but rather created by an evil wizard with the intention of destroying Smurfs. It took her desire to be something different and Papa Smurf's magic to transform her into a real Smurf."
"Many men and only one woman," a third Utopi said. "It must be sad to have to compete for her affections."
"And none of you compete for the affections of any of the females of your people?" Empath asked. "Then how do you know which female is the one you want to marry?"
"We can feel it, Empath," a fourth Utopi said. "We can know when a certain female among us is looking to be our soulmate. We can't describe how it feels, but when it happens, there's no doubt in our minds and hearts that this woman is the one any of us are to be bound with for all time."
"Maybe this smurf does know that feeling," Empath said. "It's what this smurf has been feeling ever since this smurf met Smurfette ten years ago. This smurf can sense that none of the other Smurfs ever have that same kind of feeling that this smurf and Smurfette have for each other. That's what makes it so hard for this smurf to ever get really close enough to Smurfette to ask her hand in marriage until now."
"You're willing to give up being with this Smurfette for all time so that the other Smurfs could have that opportunity for themselves?" one of the Utopi said, sounding incredulous.
"And none of them have ever taken that opportunity?" another Utopi asked.
"Well, this smurf thinks that letting Smurfette be free enough to choose who she wants to be with is fair, even if in the long run it would mean Smurfette would never belong to this smurf," Empath stated. "Not that my fellow Smurfs haven't tried taking the opportunity for themselves."
"That's either a brave thing to give up someone you love for somebody else's happiness, or a foolish thing," a third Utopi commented. "With us, because there's many females among us as there are males, there's no need for us to compete for the hearts of anyone. We just let nature take its course and when it's time, the female we desire to have as our soulmate will be ours."
"It's really that simple?" Empath asked.
"Well, there's still the wedding ceremony of our people to go through, Empath," a fourth Utopi said. "But usually, the Utopii are happy and content with the mates we are joined with."
"Let this smurf try to understand...if your people are not attracted to each other physically, then why do you need to show yourself physically as being strong?" Empath asked.
"Because that's what we are, Empath...we're a strong people, and we're a beautiful people," the first Utopi answered. "Showing both parts of ourselves should never be anything for us to be ashamed about. We love being both a strong and beautiful people, and strength and beauty should always be part of any union, whether it be our people or yours."
"You don't enjoy appearing as you are?" the second Utopi asked. "Having people see the strength that flows through every part of you...your arms, your legs, your body?"
"This smurf is never out to impress anybody with how this smurf appears," Empath answered. "All this smurf wants is to simply be comfortable with how this smurf appears, and not have to feel embarrassed."
"You don't need to feel like you're impressing anyone," the third Utopi said. "Showing yourself as we do is to show your mate that she can trust you with everything you're willing to give her."
"And that's why this smurf has to parade around in just my swim briefs all day," Empath said.
"Trust us that after this week you spend with us, you won't mind appearing in just your swim briefs even when you return to your own people," the fourth Utopi said.
Empath exhaled as he had a lot of think about from what his fellow Utopii were telling him. It felt like they were trying to get him to be the Smurf that Papa Smurf always wanted Empath to be before he even got sent away to Psychelia. Maybe this honeymoon would be the very thing that would finally bridge the gap between the Smurf that he is now and the Smurf that he should be, he thought.

Chapter 3

Meanwhile, Smurfette was at work helping with food preparations for the feast they were having that night for the wedding ceremony. All the while that she was talking with the Utopi women in the fields and the kitchen, they were telling her about the Utopi men and how strong and brave and handsome they were.
"How is it that you're the only female among your kind in the village?" one of the Utopi women asked.
"I am not the only female in the Smurf Village," Smurfette answered. "But I am the only one who's...well, an adult female like most of the male Smurfs who are my friends and family. An evil wizard created me to destroy the Smurfs, but then Papa Smurf smurfed a magic spell on me and smurfed me into the Smurf I was meant to be."
"And you have all those male Smurfs to choose from to be your mate?" another Utopi asked.
"What are these male Smurfs like?" a third Utopi asked. "Do they all look different from each other like our men?"
"Not by much," Smurfette said. "But they all act differently, which is how I can tell one Smurf apart from another. Only Papa Smurf, who's our leader and my father, smurfs different from the rest, and then there's Empath, who on the day I smurfed eyes on him thought he was the most handsome among all the Smurfs."
"So how is he the most handsome?" a fourth Utopi asked. "Is it the star that he has on his forehead?"
"I thought it was that at first," Smurfette answered. "But then I realized something about him that was so different from the other male Smurfs I have met, and that he smurfed so much like what Papa Smurf must have smurfed like without the beard around Empath's age."
"But it must have been lonely for you to not have another female of your kind to talk to in the village," the first Utopi said.
"Yeah, and the only male Smurf that I can smurf to about beautiful things is Vanity Smurf," Smurfette said. "But there's just something about smurfing with another female Smurf that smurfing with a male Smurf just can't smurf the place of. That's why I enjoy smurfing with Sassette and Nanny, even if they aren't the same...uh, age as me."
"You're very fortunate to have friends among your people even if they aren't of the same gender, Smurfette," the second Utopi said.
"I noticed that there are two leaders of the Utopii, that Mami Utopi smurfs as the 'second leader'," Smurfette commented. "Is that anything like being an assistant leader or something?"
"Papi Utopi leads the men while Mami Utopi leads the women," the third Utopi answered. "However, much of the authority lies upon Papi Utopi for the entire village, which is why even Mami Utopi has to take orders from him, but it's not like he has absolute authority over everyone here. It's just that he's our father and our leader, and like any good father he watches over us and takes care of us and will protect us in times of danger."
"Your Papa Smurf doesn't have a wife?" the fourth Utopi asked.
"Papa Smurf did have a wife years ago before I was smurfed," Smurfette said. "But she along with Papa Smurf's fellow Smurfs died and he was left as the only adult Smurf to lead the village with so many young Smurfs to smurf up to him for guidance and leadership. It wasn't easy for him to smurf an entire village all by himself, but I see that he hasn't smurfed a bad job with how he runs the village. I feel safe and secure knowing that Papa Smurf is always smurfing out for me."
"Your husband will do the same for you and more, Smurfette," a fifth Utopi said. "As women, we must rely more on the men that we will marry someday to be our protector and guide, because there will come a day when we won't have a father or leader to look up to."

It was a quiet night at Tapper's Tavern. As most of the Smurfs were tuckered out from the wedding ceremony, Tapper gave them a shot of brandy that would help them sleep through the night. With everything that happened, most of them were beginning to feel the change that Empath and Smurfette's marriage had brought upon.
Brainy and Clumsy sat together enjoying their drinks and quietly talking. "Uh, Brainy, I'm beginning to feel that things in the village aren't going to be the same anymore with Smurfette married," Clumsy said.
"You're not the only one who feels that way, Clumsy," Brainy said. "I for one was smurfing forward to the possibility that it might be me marrying Smurfette of all the Smurfs here."
"I didn't know that you still loved Smurfette after all this time," Clumsy said.
"Of course I do, Clumsy," Brainy said. "Just because she smurfed her heart to Empath doesn't mean that I no longer have any feelings for her. She still would have smurfed a good wife unto me."
"But what if she had chosen me to be her husband?" Clumsy asked. "Would you have been upset at that?"
"No, Clumsy, no," Brainy said. "Well, maybe just a little upset, but I never smurf you down as a friend of mine if you smurfed that. I respect you too much to even think of smurfing that to you."
"But what are we going to smurf now that we can no longer have Smurfette?" Clumsy asked.
"I honestly don't know, Clumsy," Brainy said. "I know you have deep feelings for me, and I can understand that, but for me to smurf you the same feelings toward you is not something that I would feel comfortable smurfing."
"Is it because you're ashamed of what the other Smurfs would think of you?" Clumsy asked.
"It's just...," Brainy began to say before he paused, realizing that he didn't know what he could say about it.
Clumsy sighed. "It's just what I figured. No wonder I'm going to be so alone without Smurfette."
Brainy reached out and grabbed Clumsy's hand. "Don't ever think that I would be ashamed of calling you my friend, Clumsy. Even if we can't be lovers, we can still be together and care for one another."
Clumsy smiled. "Gosh, that makes me smurf a whole lot better."

By evening, the feast was ready. Empath and Smurfette felt a little worn out from all the activity they did in the day, but the day for them wasn't over. And neither was yet the time for them to be alone with each other. It was like there was still so much activity left in the day for them to participate in, they wondered if they would ever have enough private time for themselves.
Empath appeared as he did in again his Smurf hat and swim briefs, but was now decorated with a palm wreath around his neck. He then saw Smurfette emerge in a beautiful sarong, also with a palm wreath around her neck adorned with flowers. He looked at her and smiled, thinking that it will be all worth the activity they had to go through on their first day on the island with the Utopii.
"Come sit by my right hand, young Smurf," Papi Utopi said to Empath, directing him to the dinner table where all the Utopii were gathered around. "And you, young Smurfette, sit by my left. You are both honored guests who seek to be married according to our customs. You shall both dine with me and then we shall proceed with the ceremony."
"We are honored to be in your presence, Papi Utopi," Empath said. He and Smurfette sat across from each other at the same table, both next to Papi Utopi.
"Where's Mami Utopi?" Smurfette asked. "Wouldn't she normally sit with you, Papi Utopi?"
"Normally she would, my young friend," Papi Utopi answered. "But as second leader, her place is among the women, which is why she will sit across from me on the far end of the table, after she has finished bringing forth the meal that we shall eat tonight."
"Here is the ceremony cup, Papi Utopi," one of the female Utopi said as she set a cup made from a coconut shell on the table in front of Empath and Smurfette and poured a drink into it.
"Ah, yes," Papa Utopi said. "It is custom for the husband and the wife who shall be joined together to drink from the same cup. The husband shall drink from it first, and then shall his wife, to show that they shall belong together solely to each other for all time."
"This smurf will drink to that," Empath said, reaching for the cup.
"Do not rush the ceremony, my young friend," Papi Utopi said, stopping Empath from grabbing the cup. "You must solemnly swear that you will give your strength and your courage to this young maiden who has chosen you to be her mate, and that you must love her and care for her and protect her with everything that you have for all time."
"Of course," Empath said, realizing his error.
"And you, fair maiden," Papi Utopi said, addressing Smurfette, "you must solemnly swear that you will give your beauty and your compassion to this young man who has chosen you to be his mate, and that you must love him and care for him and protect him with everything that you have for all time."
"I will," Smurfette said, looking at Empath.
"Then you may drink of the cup to show your unity of strength and beauty," Papa Utopi said.
Empath looked into Smurfette's eyes as he took the cup and drank. She looked into Empath's eyes as she took the cup and did the same.
"Now, then, let the feast begin, before the ceremony starts," Papi Utopi shouted. Soon the music started, and the food was brought to the table.
Empath and Smurfette felt like they never had a feast like that of the Utopii before. The food was just incredible, beyond anything that could be adequately described. Smurfette knew she helped prepare the food, but even then she was completely surprised by how everything tasted. The Utopii had them sample every single dish that was on the table.
"How do you people eat like this?" Empath asked Papi Utopi.
"Normally our meals are rather light," Papi Utopi answered. "It's when we have guests like you that our meals have more substance to them. When you live long enough on this island, it will not matter anymore how the food will taste or how much of it you will eat or go without. We are a quite content people."
"Greedy will certainly like smurfing to this island just for this," Smurfette said.
"And now the ceremony shall begin," Papi Utopi announced, suddenly standing up for all the people to hear. "This young man who seeks to be married to this young woman shall fight for the honor of her hand against the champion I have designated."
"What?!?" Smurfette said, surprised to hear that.
"This smurf has to fight to marry Smurfette?" Empath asked.
"Yes, it is part of our marriage custom that the man who seeks to marry must fight against the champion who will protect the bride," Papi Utopi answered. "If you lose the match, you will not be married. It's as simple as that."
"Oh, Empath, what are we going to smurf?" Smurfette asked, not liking this part of the ceremony.
"Don't worry, Smurfette," Empath said. "We will go through with the ceremony and we'll still be together regardless of what happens."
"That will be difficult," Papi Utopi said. "If you lose, Smurfette will remain part of our people forever."
"Empath! Don't let that happen!" Smurfette said, sounding fearful.
"Just relax, Smurfette!" Empath said as they were led to the ceremonial ring where the fight would take place. "How difficult will this fight with their champion be?"
And then Empath saw the champion for himself. For his size, he looked bigger than even Papi Utopi. He felt a lump forming in his throat, making him realize that this isn't going to be an easy fight.
"This maiden will be mine!" the champion said in a challenging voice, preparing himself for battle. "Show your strength or show your weakness!"
Empath realized that he will have to fight him on the same level. "This smurf will accept your challenge," he said as he took the same stance as the champion.
And then with the sound of a gong, Empath and the champion raced headlong into each other. Empath tried to grab the champion, but the champion grabbed him first and easily threw him out of the ring. Smurfette watched fearfully as Empath landed far behind the crowd. "Oh dear," she said mournfully.
"The champion has won!" Papi Utopi said. "Smurfette shall remain as part of the Utopi."
"This isn't fair!" Smurfette said. "The champion's bigger than Empath is!"
"Part of the challenge is dealing with something bigger than ourselves, Smurfette," Mami Utopi said. "We're either capable of dealing with the challenge or we're easily defeated by it."
"I will enjoy your company, fair maiden," the champion said, sounding like he's taking delight in his easy victory.
"Nobody touches my wife except me!" a voice shouted. Empath came back to the ceremonial ring to face the champion again. "I challenge you to a rematch!"
"That is not our way!" the champion said. "I have beaten you fair and square, and now Smurfette is mine!"
"The husband has the right to call for a second match to prove himself," Papi Utopi said, countering the champion's claim.
"What's wrong, champion?" Empath asked. "Are you afraid that you're going to be defeated?"
"I fear nothing!" the champion roared. "You did not last against me the first time, and you will not fare any better the second time around!"
"Okay, then, prove it!" Empath said, readying himself in the fighting stance.
Again the gong sounded, but this time only the champion charged toward Empath while he remained still. Then when the champion got very close, Empath jumped high over the champion's head, pounded on his head, and landed right behind him.
The Utopii gasped as they saw Empath's move performed on the champion. Smurfette realized that Empath was using his jumping skills as a Smurf to wear down the champion.
The champion did not like having his head being pounded upon. He charged at Empath again, and Empath again jumped over the champion, pounded his head, and landed behind him. Empath and the champion repeated the same moves over and over, and each time the champion became more disoriented from all the pounding his head was taking. Finally, with one last feeble charge, Empath simply grabbed the champion, lifted him high above his head, and threw him right out of the ring, totally unconscious.
Smurfette and the Utopii cheered. "A rather unconventional battle, but Empath has proved his right to marry Smurfette," Papi Utopi announced.
"Oh, Empath, I knew that you could smurf it," Smurfette said, so eager to embrace and kiss him at that moment.
Papi Utopi then stood between Empath and Smurfette, handing Empath a floral wreath and Smurfette a wreath of stones and rope. "And so, it is my honor that the two who shall be united as husband and wife shall decorate each other with these wreaths, to show that the husband will always protect his wife with his strength, and that the wife will always protect her husband with her beauty. May this union of strength and beauty be one that shall stand for as long as the mountain on this island will."
"Smurfette, I pledge that I will give you my strength," Empath said as he draped the rope wreath around Smurfette's neck.
"And Empath, I pledge that I will give you my beauty," Smurfette said as she draped the floral wreath around Empath's neck.
And then the Utopii cheered as the two of them embraced and kissed each other.

Chapter 4

Back in the Smurf Village, as the tavern was closing, Duncan was with Wild, who looked like he was a little depressed. "Aye, what troubles you tonight, my boy?" Duncan asked.
"My heart is sad, knowing that Smurfette is now married to Empath and that I can no longer have her," Wild answered.
"We all know that feeling, laddie," Duncan said. "It's one thing that we will smurf over in time, hopefully."
"But what am I going to smurf being without her?" Wild asked. "Will there be another Smurfette that I can marry?"
"I honestly don't know about that," Duncan said. "Smurfette was a pretty unique creation of an evil wizard, and Papa Smurf isn't quite willing to smurf up another that is just like her to satisfy anyone's heart."
"That just doesn't seem fair, that Papa Smurf would not create another Smurfette like her," Wild said.
"I know how you feel about that, but we can't question Papa Smurf's decisions when he's just trying to smurf out for us and smurf what is best for each of us in the long smurf," Duncan said.
"Then I will never know what it's like to smurf alone with a Smurfette," Wild said, sounding upset.
"What you need, laddie, is a night in the Imaginarium to smurf your mind off your troubles," Duncan said.
"Imaginarium? You mean that place where you can smurf all your dreams to come true?" Wild asked.
"It's something like that," Duncan answered. "I can get you smurfed up in there to imagine whatever it is you want to smurf, and I'm sure that you can smurf things from there."
"You mean if I can imagine a Smurfette that I can smurf alone with, that will happen in there?" Wild asked.
"You can't smurf her home with you, but whatever your heart fancies, you can smurf it in there without anybody to interrupt you while you're smurfing it," Duncan replied. "Come, let us smurf there so I can show you."
Tapper watched as Duncan took Wild away to visit the Imaginarium to deal with his own personal sense of loneliness. He knew that this night was going to be hard on his fellow Smurfs, including himself.
As he retired to his own sleeping quarters, Tapper kneeled down and prayed. "O Lord God, Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and provider of all good things, I pray this night that the hearts of all our fellow Smurfs, including myself, would be smurfed with the presence of You smurfing there to give us peace and comfort and healing in our inner being, that Empath and Smurfette would enjoy their time alone together under Your blessings for a happy and holy union of man and woman as one flesh, that we would smurf the fact that we are not alone as long as You are with us each and every smurf of the day, in every day that You smurf us to live our lives in glory and honor unto You. In Your only begotten Son Jesus' name, I pray. Amen."

Empath and Smurfette were at last brought to the hut where they would privately consummate their love for each other together. But neither of them felt like they were ready to just rush into doing that yet. There was still something they needed to do which was rather personal and part of their own culture.
"Papi Utopi, is there a beach that we can go to, that's near the village?" Empath asked after the ceremony was over.
"There's one that's on the other end of that path leading from the vegetable garden that is our personal swimming area," Papi Utopi said. "But I would advise you to be careful, if you're going to venture out of our village. The island has some creatures on it that are not very friendly to meet even at night."
"We'll be careful, Papi Utopi," Smurfette said. "Good night and thank you!"
Empath and Smurfette had gone out to the beach after nightfall when everyone else had gone asleep. Empath was still wearing only his swim briefs and his hat while Smurfette had on a slip and her hat. As much as they liked the villagers of the paradise island Marco had sent them to, they felt that they needed someplace a little more private.
Empath built a fire on the beach while Smurfette settled down on the towel she brought along. She waited for him to ignite the fire so that he could settle down beside her and watch the night sky together.
"Isn't this the most beautiful sight you could smurf, Empath?" Smurfette said, sighing. "It makes me wish the whole Smurf Village could smurf here on this night...if it weren't for the fact that this is our honeymoon!"
"This smurf is certain that there are a few Smurfs who would appreciate this sight and take advantage of it, Smurfette," Empath said.
Smurfette noticed that Empath wasn't making any move towards her. He seemed more distracted by the sight of the sky than by the sight of her. "Empath, what's wrong?" she asked, directing his gaze toward her.
Empath sighed. "This smurf feels like this smurf is going to take everything the other Smurfs love about you and leave them with nothing, Smurfette."
"I know they're jealous, Empath," Smurfette said. "And I know they're disappointed because they all love me and they all want me to smurf one of them as their one true love for all time. I don't want to smurf them get hurt, either. But I think it's fair that I should smurf myself to the one Smurf who is going to love me alone for all time, and that the one Smurf should never feel ashamed about smurfing himself completely to the one he loves."
"You're right, Smurfette," Empath said. "It just makes this smurf feel silly to finally have a treasure like this and not be able to touch it without feeling selfish or anything."
"This treasure is only meant for one Smurf, Empath, and it wouldn't be worth smurfing it for somebody if I could never smurf it with anybody," Smurfette said, looking into Empath's eyes and touching his face.
Empath looked at Smurfette and realized that she wasn't going to hold back. He reached out his hand and took her other hand.
"There's this ritual that the Smurfs engage in when it comes to consummation which Papa Smurf taught this smurf about," Empath said. "What you want to do is place your hand under this smurf's hat."
"Okay," Smurfette said, doing what Empath has directed her. "And then what?"
"And then, you just simply move your hand underneath the hat..." Empath said.
"Like this?" Smurfette said as she moved her hand under Empath's hat, noticing that he reacted as if somebody had touched him in a very gentle spot. She giggled at the reaction. "Oh, so that's why male Smurfs tend to wear hats!"
"Well, it's one of the reasons!" Empath said, sounding rather sheepish. "You may want to use both hands for this!"
"What am I supposed to do now?" Smurfette said.
"Uh...what you want to do is...slowly remove this smurf's hat with...what you're doing right now," Empath answered, as if he didn't want Smurfette to stop what she was doing.
"Hmmm, now this sounds interesting," Smurfette said with a bit of a smile. "Okay, just relax, I promise that I will smurf this nice and gentle..."
Empath sat still, letting himself stay focused on Smurfette while she gently moved her hands all over his bald head, feeling what it was doing to him. "This smurf could feel my tail twitching," he quietly said.
"Is that what's supposed to happen?" Smurfette asked.
"Just don't stop," Empath said.
And so she continued to stroke him until his hat dropped right off his head. "Okay, my turn now," Smurfette said, sitting herself up and positioning herself so that Empath could do the same to her.
Empath took his hands and gently placed them under Smurfette's hat, stroking her hair, making her feel the same thing he was feeling. "I could feel my tail twitching, too," she said quietly, until he too had caused her hat to drop off her head.
Neither of them noticed. Neither of them cared. All they could think about at that moment is each other. It was as if they were the only two people that existed in the world, and that this night and everything in the world was made solely for them.
And it was a night that seemed to last forever.

Meanwhile, back in the Smurf Village, Polaris Psyche had suddenly woke up in terror. He had just realized that Empath was no longer a part of his dreams.
He had looked around the darkened room of what was now his own house, as Empath had now left his house for Polaris to live in by himself. And then he went outside, looking at the moon in the clear starry sky, wondering what had just happened.
Polaris never had that feeling of Empath being absent from his dreams before. Even after Empath had left Psychelia and Polaris was forced to having his memories of Empath erased by the Psyche Master, he still had dreams of himself and Empath being together, with Empath sharing things about the Smurfs to Polaris that were never meant for anyone else in Psychelia to know about. But now it was if Empath had been forever shut off from him, as if they could no longer be in the same dreams together.
Then Polaris realized what had happened. It was the moment that Empath and Smurfette consummated their love for each other together. And at that moment, Empath had been shut out of Polaris' dreams.
Polaris had no idea of what to think or feel about that moment. He just sat outside his house, looking at the moon in wonder. And he could feel a single teardrop forming in his eye.

The next morning Smurfette woke up bright and early, feeling rather refreshed and energetic. She expected that she would be worn out from the night she had spent alone with Empath, as the experience they had together was beyond anything she could comfortably describe to anyone else, and yet it felt like the best form of pleasure she ever had.
She looked at Empath sleeping beside her and noticed that there was a very big smile on his face, which was unusual for him as he normally didn't smile like that even at his happiest moment. Smurfette had a feeling that Empath truly enjoyed his night alone with her, and that it made him feel really happy. She smiled as she watched Empath continue to lay there in a deep sleep, oblivious to anything going on beside him.
Smurfette planted a kiss on Empath's forehead as she got out of bed, put on her hat, and went outside her hut to look around. "What a beautiful morning to smurf up to," she said, stretching her arms and legs while taking in the scenery. "It's too bad that a certain someone is still asleep, because I would very much want to smurf that beautiful morning with him right now."
"Smurfette, would you mind not talking so much while this smurf is trying to sleep?" she heard Empath say.
Smurfette turned around and looked inside the hut, but all she could see is Empath still asleep. "Hmmm...I must be imagining things," she mused. "I smurf that I could have heard Empath smurfing to me right now."
"That's because you're still talking, and this smurf can still hear you talking in my sleep," Empath answered, though he still didn't wake up.
Smurfette began to sense that this wasn't Empath communicating to her through anything but thought. "Wait a minute," Smurfette said, realizing it for herself. "You're not just smurfing your telepathy to smurf to me like that...I can actually smurf your thoughts!"
"That is correct, and if you know what this smurf is thinking, you should know that your thinking is a little too loud for this smurf to stay asleep listening to," Empath said, again through thought.
Smurfette knew that Empath had some explaining to do. "Okay, Empath, you're going to smurf me how is it I'm able to smurf your thoughts," she said as she approached his side of the bed.
"Can this smurf be able to sleep for a bit longer before this smurf can explain anything?" Empath said through thought, still not moving an inch out of the bed.
But Smurfette wasn't going to let Empath continue sleeping and talking to her like this if she didn't have any answers. She grabbed Empath's nose and blocked up his nostrils until he found himself unable to breathe.
He woke up startled. "Okay, Smurfette, you win," he said, this time through regular talking.
"All I want to know is how I'm able to smurf your thoughts inside my head while you're able to smurf my thoughts, Empath," Smurfette said.
Empath thought about that for a moment and then just shook his head. "This smurf honestly doesn't know, Smurfette. All this smurf knows is that before last night, only this smurf would be able to know what's in your thoughts unless we were in a mindlink together, where you would be able to know what's in this smurf's thoughts as well as those of your fellow Smurfs in the mindlink."
"Before last night..." Smurfette wondered. Then it dawned on her. "You mean...when we were together like that...we became...bonded? Not just in spirit, but also in our thoughts?"
"That's the only reasonable explanation this smurf can come up with, Smurfette," Empath answered. "Honestly, this smurf had no idea that this would be the result of what we were doing last night. Not that this smurf would regret any moment of it, though."
"I don't regret it, either, Empath," Smurfette said. "But this smurfs beyond simply smurfing what it feels to be married to you. It's not just knowing what you are and what you're thinking. It's like you're inside me now and I can't help feeling and smurfing that you'll know everything about me and I'll know everything about you, and that we would be lost without each other."
"That is what this smurf is also sensing, Smurfette," Empath said. "This smurf apologizes if any of this makes you feel uncomfortable."
Smurfette sighed. "I'll just have to smurf used to this feeling, Empath. For now, let's smurf in this beautiful morning together, now that you're up and about."
Empath smiled. "This smurf will join you in doing that, Smurfette."

"Good morning, my young Smurf and Smurfette," Papi Utopi greeted them as they both emerged from their hut. "Did you both sleep well?"
"We were lucky to be able to sleep at all, Papi Utopi, but we were able to rest," Smurfette said, planting a kiss on the village leader's cheek.
"This smurf was just wondering if it were possible for us to do some exploring on the island," Empath said.
"I wouldn't need to remind you that most of this island is dangerous, Empath," Papi Utopi said. "You may not want to take your bride with you on this journey."
"We were hoping that we would do this together," Empath said.
"It would be a shame to smurf back home and not smurf everything that your beautiful home smurfs to offer," Smurfette said.
"You may regret the things that you will encounter on this island if you intend on both exploring it together," Papi Utopi said. "But hold on...I will see what I can offer you."
"We might as well prepare ourselves in the meantime, Smurfette," Empath said as Papi Utopi went back into his own hut.

Soon Empath and Smurfette were dressed more in the manner of two people who were out for a hike. Although Empath was still dressed in just a Smurf hat and his swim briefs, he had put on some hiking shoes.
Smurfette was getting her backpack ready when Empath appeared with a piece of paper. "Empath, what do you smurf here?" she asked.
"It's a map of the island that the leader of this village gave this smurf for our hiking trip, Smurfette," Empath answered. "He says that it should smurf us a good route that will let us smurf our way around the mountain to smurf the sights and smurf us..."
"Empath, did you hear what you just smurfed?" Smurfette said, interrupting Empath.
Empath paused briefly, wondering what the interruption was for. "Well, this smurf did say that this map should smurf us a good route that will let us smurf our way around the mountain and..."
"Empath, you're doing it!" Smurfette said. "You're finally speaking in Smurf clearly!"
Empath was surprised to discover that. "Great Ancestors! This smurf just realized this for himsmurf. Moreover, all of this smurf's thoughts are now in Smurf language. But how is any of this possible?"
"I don't know," Smurfette said. "You usually smurf that you speak in Smurf whenever you're very angry or very sad, but other times you would be smurfing nonsense. But here it's like..."
"This smurf had normal feelings and it just suddenly smurfed out of the blue," Empath said, knowing what Smurfette was thinking. "There was no extreme smurfing that this smurf smurfed inside me."
"Maybe you are experiencing an extreme emotion right now, Empath...that of smurfing in love with me," Smurfette said, smiling at Empath.
Empath felt a little embarrassed to hear that. "This smurf would never thought that it would smurf being married to you for this smurf to finally speak in Smurf clearly. This honeymoon is smurftainly full of surprises."
Smurfette kissed him. "Well, however it smurfened, I'm glad that you're becoming the Smurf that you were smurfed to be, and I won't smurf back a single moment of loving you just for that, Empath."
Empath smiled. "This smurf will not regret it at all, Smurfette."

Chapter 5

Soon Empath and Smurfette have started their journey on the trail that the map of the island showed them. Something about the island seemed very unusual even for a tropical island, yet besides the Petalumas that they first came across before they met the Utopii, neither of them could place a finger on what's so unusual about the island.
"Empath, how does it feel now that you're able to speak in Smurf more fluently?" Smurfette asked, still wondering about her husband's newfound ability.
"This smurf isn't certain how to describe it, Smurfette," Empath answered. "The best way this smurf could explain is through something Tapper had smurfed me in his holy book, about how the apostles in the Book of Acts were able to smurf in other languages that they have never known before."
"I'm not sure I can fully understand what that smurfs, Empath, but it's still quite amazing," Smurfette said.
"Back when this smurf first visited the village, Smurfette, the language of Smurf was always like a second language to this smurf," Empath said. "This smurf had to learn Smurf mostly through intuitive thinking and telepathy, which was rather infuriating and made this smurf feel more like an outsider than a real Smurf. But now it's like the language of Smurf has become a complete revelation, as if this smurf has known how to speak in Smurf my entire life. All the grammar rules, all the intonations, all the dialects...it's now become so natural for this smurf to think in Smurf like everyone else."
"Well, I'm certainly going to miss smurfing fun of you whenever you try to speak in Smurf and it ends up smurfing all wrong," Smurfette said. "The only thing is...why are you still smurfing yourself as 'this smurf'?"
"I guess that's just a habit that this smurf will never stop smurfing, Smurfette," Empath said.
"I'm sure you'll smurf over it in time, Empath," Smurfette said. Then she stopped as she smelled something that attracted her attention. "Empath, smurf a look at this!"
They both looked at a pool of what appeared to be brown mud that was on the left side of the trail. However, the color of the mud was much darker than the kind of mud they were used to seeing.
"This doesn't smurf like a regular mud pool, Smurfette, nor does it smell like one," Empath said.
Smurfette knelt before the pool and stuck a finger into it before she stuck it in her mouth. "Mmm," Smurfette said. "It doesn't even taste like mud. It tastes more like...chocolate."
"A chocolate mud pool?" Empath said. "How is this even possible?"
"I don't know, Empath, but this is like a surprising discovery," Smurfette said. "I wonder if the Utopii even know about this pool being here. Well, I suppose they do, if they smurfed up that map and all, but..."
"This smurf senses that this type of chocolate isn't like any known form of chocolate," Empath said. "It appears to have nutrients in it, so somebody must be smurfing it for food."
"Really?" Smurfette asked, curious about the chocolate. "Oh, let's stop here and smurf some of this chocolate." She took off her backpack and knelt closer to the pool to scoop up some more.
"Be careful, Smurfette," Empath said. "That chocolate mud smurfs to be very sticky."
But then Smurfette fell headfirst into the pool. Empath dropped his backpack and went over to the spot where Smurfette was kneeling, ready to pull her out.
And then Smurfette emerged, all brown and sticky. "Oh, look at me, Empath...I'm all covered in mud," she moaned. "How am I supposed to..."
She stopped when she noticed that Empath was staring with her with wide eyes and a wider smile. She was sensing something rather perverted in his mind with that look he was giving her.
"Okay, Empath, stop looking at me," she said, sounding a bit mad. "Here I am, all smurfed up in mud, and all you can do is just smurf there and look at me!"
"Well, what do you want this smurf to do about it?" Empath asked, still looking at her and smiling.
"Just...get me out of this!" Smurfette exclaimed, reaching out her hand.
Empath knelt down and reached out his hand to grab hers. But no sooner than he did that, Smurfette pulled him into the mud pool and watched as he emerged from it all brown and sticky.
"Smurfette, that was a rather dirty trick you smurfed on me," Empath commented.
Smurfette giggled. "Well, you want to smurf at me being covered in chocolate mud, I can smurf you the same way."
"Are you sure that's all you really want to smurf?" Empath asked, as he held her close to him and looked into her eyes.
"Now that you've mentioned it, I am smurfing...rather hungry," Smurfette said, also looking into his eyes.
"We both smurf sweet enough to eat," Empath said, giving her a lick and a kiss. "Why let all this chocolate go to smurf?"
Smurfette responded with a lick of her own. "What a smurflicious idea!"

After spending some time bathing in the pool of chocolate mud, Empath and Smurfette decided to take a shower in the waterfalls to clean themselves off. Even though Empath wanted to be with Smurfette in the shower, Smurfette decided it would be best for the both of them to shower separately.
She was happily singing the Smurf song when she stopped and sensed something. "Empath, what are you doing?" Smurfette asked.
"This smurf is simply watching you take a shower, Smurfette," Empath answered through his thoughts.
"That's not what I'm sensing, Empath," Smurfette said. "It feels more like you're smurfing a shower with me."
"Oh, so that's what this smurf is doing," Empath said.
"Empath, don't smurf innocent with me," Smurfette said. "It smurfs like there's an invisible hand smurfing me while I'm in the shower."
"So this smurf can't smurf a shower with you?" Empath asked.
"NO!" Smurfette said. "Wait your turn and smurf your...uh, smurfs off me until I'm out!"
Empath sighed. "Okay. If that's what you want, then this smurf will not touch you."
Smurfette stepped out of the waterfalls when she was finished. She went behind some bushes where there was a hot steamy geyser to dry herself off with. "I can't believe you were smurfing like such a gentlesmurf around me until you married me, Empath. Now it smurfs like you just can't smurf enough of me, if you know what I mean."
"This smurf thought that that was the whole point of the honeymoon, Smurfette," Empath said. "That we would smurf time for ourselves to smurf our love for each other without smurfing around other Smurfs."
"And you never thought of smurfing that...invisible hand trick until now?" Smurfette asked.
"This smurf couldn't and wouldn't do that to you, Smurfette," Empath said as he now stepped into the waterfalls. "This smurf respected you and will still respect your desire for privacy when you desire it."
"But now it smurfs like I can't be private anymore around you, Empath," Smurfette said. "Like you'll always know that I'm smurfing."
"This smurf has a feeling that it will smurf two ways, Smurfette," Empath said. "Because of this bond we have, you'll now be able to know what this smurf is smurfing."
"I don't know if I'll ever be able to get used to it, Empath," Smurfette said. "I just don't have the benefit of being a telepath like you."
"We'll both get used to it in time, Smurfette," Empath said. "And by the way, you're smurfing your underwear on the wrong way."
Smurfette was now feeling a bit embarrassed. "Oh, stop it, Empath!" She quickly changed back into her clothes when she noticed something nearby.
"Smurfette, what is it?" Empath asked, sensing something that picked up her interest.
"I don't know, Empath," Smurfette answered. "It smurfs like some sort of mysterious temple that's beyond the brush."
"A mysterious temple?" Empath asked, now all curious. "Wait, this smurf will join you."
Empath quickly got out of the shower and joined Smurfette in looking through the dense thicket of leaves at the mysterious temple she had found. "Great Ancestors!" he exclaimed.
"Now why would this temple be smurfed behind all these trees, and not be smurfed on the map?" Smurfette asked.
"This smurf doesn't know, Smurfette," Empath answered. "Maybe it's smurfed off the map for a reason."
"It smurfs like a place that Indiana might smurf comfortable exploring, with his studies of ancient cultures and all," Smurfette commented.
"Maybe we should smurf a look at what's inside," Empath suggested.
"Are you sure?" Smurfette asked. "If it was smurfed off the map of the trail, maybe the Utopii don't want us to smurf inside it."
"We'll smurf it together, Smurfette," Empath said. "If there's a reason that the Utopii don't want anyone to smurf inside this temple, maybe we should explore it to discover the reason."
Smurfette sighed. "I just hope we don't smurf ourselves into any trouble here!"

With their backpacks and torches, Empath and Smurfette ventured into the temple, traveling through a narrow brick-lined passageway filled with cobwebs. Something about the passageway looked and felt rather odd.
"Do you see anything, Empath?" Smurfette asked, looking back toward the entrance.
"This passageway is unusually long for a temple entrance," Empath noted. "Whatever is inside this temple is bured deep in the ground." They dodged as a swarm of bats came flying past them from the other end of the passageway. "Hmm, not surprising."
"Yeah, but this place is smurfing to give me the smurfs," Smurfette said.
"This smurf sees a chamber up ahead," Empath said. "Maybe that's the main area of the temple."
They entered the chamber and they saw what appeared to be an alcove in the center. It seemed to be made to contain something, but they had no idea of what. Empath used his touch-telepathy to examine the alcove and find out more.
"This is the place where the Mystic Star was located," Empath finally said.
"The Mystic Star?" Smurfette asked, curious.
Empath shone his torch at the walls, which had crude depictions of what he was talking about. "It's a star that smurfed from the heavens, Smurfette, according to what these inscriptions are smurfing us. It must be responsible for the creation of this island, not to mention the various smurfs of life on it."
Smurfette saw an image on the wall that looked familiar. "That must be the ancient Utopii, Empath...and they look like they smurfed from plants."
"That explains their appearance, Smurfette," Empath said. "However, I'm curious about this image. It smurfs like some giant turtle has smurfed this star into pieces."
"A giant turtle? You mean, there's something dangerous smurfing on this island that the Utopii don't want us to know about?" Smurfette asked.
"Your guess is as good as this smurf's," Empath said. He again scanned the chamber with his touch-telepathy and then looked at the map. "There are five locations on this island where the pieces of the Mystic Star are located. If we can smurf them all, maybe we can resmurf the Mystic Star."
"What would that do to the island if we smurf all the Mystic Star pieces?" Smurfette asked.
"This smurf isn't sure, Smurfette, but according to this legend, if we don't smurf all the Mystic Star pieces, then darkness will cover the entire land, and this paradise will smurf into a war zone ruled by this giant turtle and his minions."
"Oh dear," Smurfette gasped. "Empath, what we have smurfed ourselves into with this honeymoon?"
"This smurf doesn't know, but one thing is for sure, that we need to smurf for those Mystic Star pieces," Empath said. "You smurf those two figures? One male, one female, both smurfing underneath a star? It must have been waiting for us to come."
Smurfette sighed, knowing what this would mean. "So much for a relaxing week, Empath."
Empath smiled. "This smurf is certain we'll have ample opportunities for fun, Smurfette...not like this honeymoon has been boring yet." They now headed out of the chamber and back outside. "There's a path off the main trail that smurfs to the seaside. That's where we need to look for the first star piece."
Then suddenly came a shudder from the entire island that both Empath and Smurfette felt together. "Was that an earthquake, Empath?" Smurfette asked the moment after the shudder had stopped.
"Either that, or this 'giant turtle' is trying to smurf us away from finding the Mystic Star pieces," Empath said. "It must be fearing the legend smurfing true that was inscribed in that chamber. In any case, we're not going to let a little shudder try to stop us."
"We might as well ensmurf on this quest while we're here, Empath," Smurfette said. "It will certainly be a thing to tell our fellow Smurfs when we smurf back home...if we even smurf out of this alive!"
"We'll smurf through this together, Smurfette," Empath said. "Remember what the Utopii said about strength and beauty smurfing together."
"I'm not sure how beauty will smurf us out of this!" Smurfette said as they started back on the trail they have left.

Back in the Smurf Village, Polaris Psyche had a private talk with Papa Smurf about what he had felt the night before.
"Hmmm," Papa Smurf said, stroking his moustache in thought. "Well, I honestly don't know what to smurf about it, given that I don't know much about what it smurfs like for telepaths to lose such connections."
"This one feels as if this one's place in the Smurf Village is now lost because of this disconnection, Papa Smurf," Polaris said. "It's as though this one was only meant to be connected to Empath only until he had found a mate, and now that he has Smurfette as his mate, this one's role in his life is now fulfilled and this one doesn't know what other purpose this one may serve."
"I know marriage does smurf about a lot of changes when it comes to relationships with our friends, Polaris," Papa Smurf said. "But to have something as intimate as your smurfing this 'collective consciousness' with Empath being smurfed away from you -- I could only imagine how devastating that makes you feel right now. I don't like the idea of having memories of my loved ones being smurfed away from my thoughts."
"But does this truly mean this one's friendship with Empath has ended, Papa Smurf?" Polaris asked.
"I don't smurf how it means that, from what you're telling me, Polaris," Papa Smurf said. "All I can smurf of what it may mean is that you won't be as close to Empath's life as you used to be before this...moment that you smurf of. As for your role in the Smurf Village, I don't smurf it as ever changing, given that your fellow Smurfs have respected you and even became friends with you over the past nine years."
"All the same, Papa Smurf, this one doesn't feel comfortable unless this one is able to establish a link between this one and Empath," Polaris said.
"Empath may consider it an invasion of his privacy if you were to try smurfing such a link with him right now, Polaris," Papa Smurf said. "However, since we don't know what exactly Empath and Smurfette are smurfing on their honeymoon at this moment, you may want to smurf some discretion in your attempts. There are some things that smurf on between married couples that are not meant for anyone else to know about."
"This one understands, Papa Smurf, and will take the necessary precautions in mind," Polaris said, feeling relieved to have talked to Papa Smurf.

Chapter 6

Empath and Smurfette traveled down the path to the seashore. There they saw several giant flowers as well as several giant green-spotted outcroppings that looked like they were eggs or rocks.
"Oh, Empath, look," Smurfette said. "Those flowers look like they're wilted."
Empath and Smurfette turned aside to examine the flowers. "Whatever these are, something nearby is causing them to lose their nutrients from the soil. It may be those outcroppings that are in the sand."
"How are we going to smurf those flowers back to health?" Smurfette asked.
Empath spotted a female figure on the beach. "Maybe she would be able to provide some answers," he suggested. They both went over to see the female figure, who turned out to be an elderly woman that looked like she was a gardener.
"Oh, kind sir and madam, could you help me with a problem?" the elderly woman asked.
"This smurf senses that you are the one smurfing care of the flowers over here," Empath said.
"My name is Flora, and yes, I do take care of those giant flowers," the woman said. "But since those Eggshell Turtles have been nesting in this area, my poor babies are all wilted. Could you please be a dear and help me remove them from the beach so that my babies can be healthy again?"
"We'll see what we can do, Flora," Smurfette said, trying to sound comforting. "Empath, can you sense anything from the Eggshell Turtles?"
Empath touched one of them and scanned it with his minds-eye. "It appears to be sleeping, Smurfette. Maybe a little ground punch will wake it up."
Smurfette and Flora both stood back as Empath took a moment to build up his telekinetic power to deliver a powerful ground punch. Then suddenly he punched straight down toward the ground, causing a shock wave that was powerful enough to dislodge the Eggshell Turtle from its resting place. It crawled around on all fours, looking very upset for being awakened from its sleep. Then suddenly it leaped up into the air, as if it was going to land straight on top of Empath.
"LOOK OUT!" Smurfette cried out.
Empath quickly dodged the attack as the Eggshell Turtle landed on its back, stuck in the sand and unable to move. "This smurf senses that the only way to defeat this creature is to pound it into the ground while it's smurfing on its back," he said.
Suddenly he leaped high over the creature, then landed straight down on top of it with his feet. The creature disappeared, leaving behind a small patch of flowers. At that instant, Smurfette noticed something. "One of the giant flowers is reviving, Empath," she said.
"You're doing it," Flora said, sounding amazed. "You're restoring one of my flowers to full health."
"That's one down, several more to go," Empath said.
And so Empath went through each of the Eggshell Turtles on the beach, awakening them from their sleep, letting them get stuck in the ground while lying on their backs, and then pounding them into oblivion, causing more small flowers to grow and also reviving each of the giant flowers.
Finally, when the last Eggshell Turtle was taken down, and the last giant flower was revived, Empath dusted off his hands. "Those turtles shouldn't be smurfing you anymore trouble, madam," he said.
"Oh, thank you, kind sir," Flora said, sounding grateful. "As a reward, you may have this." She then produced what appeared to be part of a broken star, all gold and shiny.
"You were keeping a part of the Mystic Star, Flora?" Smurfette asked.
"Of course I was, young lady," Flora said. "Be aware, though, that your journey to collect all five pieces of the Star will be fraught with danger on every side. Stay close to your companion lest you be taken captive and brought to King Tortarus as his prisoner."
"King Tortarus?" Empath asked, curious to know who he was.
"He's king of the Tortarians that live on this island along with the Utopii, whom I am friends with," Flora explained. "He'll stop at nothing to make sure the Mystic Star is never put back together, for that would mean the end of his evil kingdom."
"We'll smurf that in mind, Flora," Smurfette said. "Thanks for helping us."
As Empath and Smurfette head off from the beach, they didn't notice that a turtle-like creature was spying on them the entire time they were helping Flora. He quickly dashed away before either Empath or Smurfette could spot him.
"Well, that wasn't so bad, Smurfette," Empath said. "It almost felt like we were smurfing a game."
"I don't know about this, Empath," Smurfette said. "We could be smurfing ourselves in all sorts of danger trying to smurf together the Mystic Star."
"But it would be worth it to remove this King Tortarus from this island forever," Empath said. "Besides, compared to the things we faced before, how dangerous could he really be?"
"I don't think you should be smurfing fate asking that kind of question, Empath," Smurfette said.

The turtle-like creature entered into a hole in the ground hidden by a rock, which turned out to be a tunnel leading to an underground passageway and then into a chamber where similar turtle-like creatures lived. They looked as if they were all preparing to take over the island, as they were working on various types of war machines and doing military battle drills.
Two large turtles guarded a special chamber which no one was allowed to enter except by appointment. "State your business, Creepshell," one of the guards said as the turtle-like creature approached them.
"I have important news to tell our king, about two blue people who are seeking after the Mystic Star," Creepshell said.
"New visitors of the island? Why should he be concerned?" the other guard asked.
"I have seen the blue male being, and he is possessed with supernatural abilities," Creepshell answered. "He got rid of the Eggshell Turtles at the beach."
Then a loud growling voice roared from inside the chamber: "BRING ME CREEPSHELL RIGHT NOW!!!"
"Uh, okay, Your Majesty," the first guard said. "Creepshell, you are free to enter." He and the other guard stood aside and opened the door to the chamber.
Creepshell entered and saw a giant turtle-like creature sitting on a massive throne. "Oh, King Tortarus, I, your grateful servant, am humbled by your presence," Creepshell said as he bowed down on his knees and worshiped before the king.
"You say that there is a visitor on the island that has gotten rid of the Eggshell Turtles that were on the beach, ruining the flowers in the Garden of Flora," King Tortarus said.
"I have seen him, and indeed he is very powerful, and he has a mate with him," Creepshell said.
"I am curious as to what those two are doing on the island, if their intent was to retrieve all the pieces of the Mystic Star," King Tortarus said.
"I have only seen one of their kind before, but he wasn't here for that particular purpose, Your Majesty," Creepshell said.
King Tortarus scratched his chin, meditating in thought. "If those two have heard about the Mystic Star and are seeking to find all its pieces, then they must be stopped. I must have the female brought to me unharmed so I can discover from her what their intentions truly are."
"Yes, Your Majesty, right away," Creepshell said, bowing before the king several times before leaving the chamber.

Back in the village, Handy and his crew of workers were starting on the remodeling of Smurfette's house, putting in new sections to the base house itself. There was a lot of activity going on as wood was being cut and shaped and nailed in place, ground was being broken up, bricks were being laid, and windows were being cut in the raw material of the mushroom walls.
Hefty stopped in the middle of his work to talk with Handy. "Well, this is smurftainly hard work getting this house prepared for Empath and Smurfette's return home, Handy," Hefty said.
"I thought that you enjoyed smurfing hard work, Hefty," Handy said.
"I do, but this is for a couple that I wouldn't expect I'd be smurfing anything for, especially when it's Empath," Hefty said.
"That's funny," Handy said. "At the wedding you said that you were over your jealousy of Empath marrying Smurfette."
"Maybe I still have a bit of that jealousy," Hefty said. "I always thought that I would be smurfing this for my future house with Smurfette as my bride."
"I know what you mean, Hefty," Handy said. "I imagined myself being the one who would be smurfing this house over for Smurfette if I happened to be her husband."
"So I guess we both lost as far as arguing over which of us is going to marry Smurfette," Hefty said.
"I still think of what I could be smurfing if I were to ever marry Marina the mermaid, if that was possible," Handy said.
"That would be pretty hard for the two of you to smurf together, unless somehow one of you was able to change how to live," Hefty said.
"I would be glad to give up living as a Smurf if I could live to be with Marina forever and ever in Atlantica," Handy said.
"Well, time for me to smurf back to work," Hefty said. "I'll smurf with you later."
Handy nodded as he watched Hefty return to what he was doing. He sighed as he thought about Marina and how happy she is now with Dylan the Snorkelian being in her life. It didn't seem fair that he had to fall in love with somebody that he could never be with for the fact that he was a land person and Marina was a sea person. But as he heard Papa Smurf say again and again, life is never fair.
Duncan stopped by from his work on the house to check up on Handy. "Hey, laddie, are you all right?" he asked, sounding concerned.
"I'm just thinking about Marina right now, Duncan," Handy said. "She's happy being with Dylan now and I'm feeling lonely because she's with him and Smurfette is with Empath."
"I'm sure there's plenty of fish in the sea, if you don't mind my manner of smurfing, that you can smurf your heart to if you just smurf it a chance," Duncan said.
"Yeah, but if there isn't anybody out there that can love me, what good would my life smurf me after this?" Handy said.
"Just be patient about it, laddie," Duncan said. "You're sure to smurf the right one in time. Smurfette was able to wait to find Empath, and she's happy with that."
"You seem to be confident in the face of insmurfmountable odds, Duncan," Handy said.
"You've got to smurf the heart of a warrior if you want to smurf through this world, and most of the battle is from within rather than from without," Duncan said. "Don't worry, we'll smurf through this together."
"Gee, thanks, Duncan," Handy said, trying to sound grateful.
"Well, look who just smurfed up here, smelling like he's been with someone," Duncan said as he saw Wild approaching them, looking like he had the best time of his life in the Imaginarium.
"I feel so smurfy, like I'm ready to smurf out there into the forest right now!" Wild said, making growling noises.
"I'm glad to have helped you there, laddie, but you're not going to wait until Empath and Smurfette smurf home from their honeymoon?" Duncan asked.
"I'll be back when they smurf home," Wild said. "Right now, I feel so smurfed up and ready for action."
Duncan chuckled. "You might as well get smurfing there while the fire is still smurfing good."
Handy and Duncan both watched as Wild made a high leap onto the top of a Smurf house and then headed straight into the forest and disappeared. "What was that all about, Duncan?" Handy asked.
"Just something that's his own personal business to smurf about, laddie," Duncan answered.

Empath and Smurfette were both walking together on the path when they both stopped, Empath sensing a feeling of sadness. He looked at Smurfette and asked, "Smurfette, are you all right? This smurf is wondering what's wrong."
"That's funny, I thought I was feeling sadness smurfing from you, Empath," Smurfette said.
"But if you're not sad and this smurf is not sad, then what is causing this feeling among us?" Empath asked.
Smurfette turned to look behind her and saw something. "Empath, look!"
Empath looked and saw what Smurfette was seeing...a spectral being that had a look of sadness on his face. He seemed to be perpetually weeping.
"Oh, pardon my appearance," the being said. "I must be frightening to the both of you. I didn't mean to make you feel sad."
"You haven't frightened either of us, but we were wondering who was feeling sad right about now," Empath said.
"But who are you, and why are you following us?" Smurfette asked.
"My name is Willow, and I am the Weeping Ghost," the being said. "I am sad because I have wandered from my grave to look for my house, and I can't seem to find it. I am wondering if you could help me."
"We are on a quest ourselves, to find the pieces of the Mystic Star," Empath said.
"The Mystic Star? I may be able to help you find a piece, if you are able to help me," Willow offered.
"We would be glad to help you, Willow," Smurfette said. "Empath, does the map show us any kind of house on the way?"
"There is one that appears on the way, Smurfette," Empath said, pulling out the map and looking at it. "But whether that is Willow's house is anyone's guess."
"We might as well smurf the chance, for who knows whether we will smurf anything there that will help us," Smurfette said.
"I would be eternally grateful for your help, kind beings," Willow said, trying to sound cheerful.
Empath put away the map before he and Smurfette continued onward with Willow following behind them. The both of them couldn't help feeling an overwhelming sadness emanating from Willow's presence.
"So what are you two doing on the island, if I may ask?" Willow asked.
"We are on our honeymoon together, because we have just been married, and we wanted to enjoy ourselves away from our fellow Smurfs," Empath said.
"You are married?" Willow said. "Oh, I wish I knew what it was liked to be married."
"What happened to you, before you became a ghost?" Smurfette asked.
"I was waiting for my sweetheart to return to me after she had left the island many years ago because we have pledged to be married and to live together in our happy home," Willow answered. "But I waited years and years for her and she never returned, and I ended up dying of a broken heart, being alone."
"That's unfortunate that such a thing happened to you, Willow," Empath said.
"We worry about that for our fellow Smurfs, since I'm the only female Smurf that they could have married," Smurfette said.
"So there's only one female Smurf for the many of the male Smurfs where you came from?" Willow said. "That makes me feel even sadder than before."
"Oh, please don't cry, Willow," Smurfette said, trying to sound comforting. "I know that our fellow Smurfs will survive this marriage."
"There it is, the house on the path," Empath said, directing their attention to the house that they were just approaching in the distance.
"That looks like my house!" Willow said, sounding excited. "Quick, let's get to it so that I can see everything in it!"
Empath and Smurfette walked a little faster so that they could reach the house that Willow said was his. It looked like a simple cottage made of stone and thatching, a smaller version of most houses the Smurfs would see in human villages.
Smurfette tried to open the door, but couldn't get it to budge. "It must be locked," she said.
Empath tried to open it himself using his touch-telepathy, but also couldn't get it to open. "This must be somehow resistant to my abilities," he said.
"Here, let me try it," Willow offered. Empath and Smurfette stepped aside and watched as Willow touched the door with one of his arms. Suddenly the door opened, and the three of them entered and looked around.
"It looks like Willow hasn't lived in here for ages, Smurfette," Empath said as he visually examined everything in the house, seemingly full of dust and cobwebs.
"Look at this picture right over here, Empath," Smurfette said, noticing the picture of a beautiful female figure sitting on a table.
Empath and Willow came over to see the picture. Willow recognized who it was. "That's my sweetheart Mulberry," he said. "I kept that picture with me ever since she left. That's the only thing I have left of her until I died."
"This smurf feels sorrow for your loss, Willow," Empath said, showing empathy unto the spectral being.
Willow floated around the room, examining everything in it that was from his life among mortals. Empath and Smurfette could both sense that Willow was reliving the memories he had of being alive, of the happiness he had when Mulberry was a part of it, and the sadness that followed when she was no longer in it.
"Oh, Mulberry, if I could only have enjoyed our first night of total intimacy together," Willow said after he had finished his examination. He then turned to the couple. "What was it like...you know, your first night together...?"
"That's a rather personal question, Willow," Empath said. "But if you must know, we both enjoyed the experience together."
"It was wonderful, and I couldn't have asked for a better Smurf to share such a moment with," Smurfette said.
Willow sighed, seemingly satisfied with the knowledge. "Take me back to my grave upon the hill," he requested. "I have seen enough, and it's time for me to rest."
Empath and Smurfette both complied, as they shut the door of the house behind them after they and Willow left. This time Willow took the lead as he directed them on a path that led to a single tombstone that was erected upon the hill.
Empath and Smurfette both stood in front of the tombstone, carefully keeping their distance in respect for the dead. "'Here lies Willow the Weeper. May he rest in peace.'," Empath read.
"Is there anything else you would want us to do?" Smurfette asked.
"You have done all that I could have asked of you," Willow said. "I have promised you to help you in your quest for the pieces of the Mystic Star, and now it is time for me to fulfill it. May the two of you enjoy your lives together." And with that, Willow lowered himself into the ground and never came back out.
Smurfette looked and waited, but nothing seemed to have appeared. "Is that all?" she asked.
Empath approached the tombstone and touched it. He sensed something that was underneath it, so he carefully moved the tombstone aside and looked. Underneath was something gold and shiny. "That's it! He was hiding a piece of the Mystic Star!"
"Oh, how smurfy!" Smurfette said, sounding excited. She stood and watched as the piece of the Mystic Star hovered until it joined with the piece that they already had.
"That's two pieces of the star so far," Empath said. "This smurf senses that there are three more to find and assemble."
"So I wonder where we're going to find the next three pieces so that we can restore peace and tranquility to this island," Smurfette said.
"This smurf is certain we will find them somewhere along our journey, Smurfette," Empath said. "Let's return to the path so we can resume."

Chapter 7

Back in the village, Polaris Psyche was sitting alone in his house in a meditative pose, trying to reach out with his mind in order to find Empath. He didn't like the idea of having to do this in the middle of a honeymoon between Empath and Smurfette, as he respected their privacy on most occasions. But here he felt like it was a necessity to reach him.
Polaris could sense only as far as the ocean along with all the living creatures that were in the ocean when he heard a door knocking. He sighed with frustration at the interruption of his effort. "You may enter," he said sharply.
Tapper entered carefully, trying his best not to disrupt what his friend was doing. "Excuse the intrusion, my friend, but I was curious as to know what you were smurfing here in your own privacy that would smurf you away from your friends," Tapper said.
"This one is trying to reach out to Empath by using telepathic meditation, but so far this one's efforts are proving to be fruitless," Polaris said.
"I don't understand why you are desperate to reach Empath, considering that he may not want to be contacted during his honeymoon," Tapper said.
"This one's reasons for doing so are my own, and this one does not wish to share those reasons at this time," Polaris said, sounding a bit offended.
"Well, you don't have to smurf them even with me, if that's what you're comfortable with," Tapper said. "However, I would advise you to smurf yourself a break and let Empath be alone to enjoy his private time with his wife. I have faith that they will return within a week and that you will be able to reconnect with Empath when he returns."
"This one is concerned that there will be no return for Empath or Smurfette, that this honeymoon will be the last any of us will see of them," Polaris said.
"I don't know how the Great Ancestors work as far as your faith, but I do know that the Almighty is able to smurf wonders even to those who have yet to believe," Tapper said. "I don't believe that He would let those two marry each other and not smurf them safely through the valley of the shadow of death so that they would know Who's smurfing out for them for their salvation."
"Well, this one appreciates you sharing your insights, but this one will not be distracted from trying to reach out to Empath no matter what," Polaris said.
Tapper sighed, realizing that there was nothing he could do to persuade Polaris from going about the situation his own way. He quietly left Polaris' house and closed the door behind him.
Barber and Sweepy were waiting outside when Tapper said. "So what's smurfing on with the mate there, Tapper?" Sweepy asked.
"I smurf in my spirit that he would rather be left alone to smurf out to Empath through his own means, my friends," Tapper said.
"Oh dear, this is really serious," Barber said.
"Cheer up there, mate," Sweepy said. "We still have the Almighty on our side. He hasn't let us down, and neither will we to make sure our friends return safely home."

Empath and Smurfette came across two people who were rushing toward them, seeming like they were desperate for help. "What smurfs to be the trouble, my friends?" he asked.
"My name is Chugga and my brother's name is Conroy," the first person said. "We have a pet that has run loose and he's steaming mad, and he needs to take a bath."
"Yeah, but the problem is, when he gets steaming mad, he's impossible to touch, so he needs to be cooled off before you can carry him," the other person said.
"Oh dear, we must smurf a way to smurf him back," Smurfette said.
"Is there a way that you can cool the creature down so that you can bring him back here for his bath?" Empath asked.
"My brother's been working on this invention that sprays water, but it hasn't been tested yet," Chugga said.
"It instantly refills when you bring it into water, so you can recharge as many times as you need as long as you're near water," Conroy said.
"This smurf would like to give this invention a try, if it is available," Empath said.
Conroy went inside the house to get the invention he and Chugga were talking about. He came back with an oddly-shaped backpack-type device that had a nozzle that sprayed high over Empath's head.
"All you have to do is press this button on the controls, and it will spray a stream of water for a short duration," Conroy explained, showing Empath the controls.
Empath removed his backpack and put on the water spraying device, which felt a little cumbersome weighing on his back. He took the control device and pressed the button, spraying a stream of water that accidentally doused Smurfette. "Oops, sorry, Smurfette," Empath said, seemingly embarrassed.
Smurfette snorted. "Not as sorry as you're going to be later on tonight, Empath."
"Wait a minute...are the two of you married?" Chugga asked, sounding curious.
"As a matter of fact, we are...or at least, as long as we survive this honeymoon we're on together," Smurfette said.
"We were just married recently, Chugga," Empath said. "We still have some things to smurf out between each other."
"Oh, well, that I will leave between you and your wife," Chugga said. "Anyway, you shouldn't have any problems trying to find Bulldozer. He doesn't go very far from our house, at least not in the last few times he has broken away."
"You may want to stay with us, sweetheart," Conroy said. "I think your husband should be able to handle this problem alone."
"Empath, you're going to smurf this?" Smurfette asked.
"Don't worry, Smurfette, this smurf should be able to handle this pet of theirs without any problem," Empath said. "You just smurf here with these two and leave smurfing him back to me."
The three of them watched as Empath headed off in the direction that the path was taking them on their quest.
"Your husband is a brave soul, if I may say so myself," Chugga said.
"He's endured a lot worse before, but I wouldn't want him to smurf himself headlong into any danger that's bigger than he can handle," Smurfette said.

Empath soon found a trail of what seemed to be hot liquid on the ground. Already he could sense that it was coming from the creature that the two brothers said was their pet. Then he could hear what sounded like a mechanical chomping noise that was nearby. He had a feeling that it was their pet Bulldozer.
He got as close as he could to the source of the sound, and soon he saw the creature for himself. He looked like a giant metal ball on a chain with eyes and a gaping jaw that was constantly snapping. He seemed so incredibly hot that it was making Empath feel faint being near him.
Empath decided it was time to draw the creature's attention. "Hey, Bulldozer! Over here!"
Bulldozer heard his name being called. He turned and saw that it was Empath, armed with a water spraying device.
"That's it...smurf a little bit closer...this smurf is not going to hurt you," Empath said.
Bulldozer then suddenly charged at Empath, knocking him down to the ground. The heat of the creature was so painful that it made Empath feel like he was being branded with a hot iron.
"Okay, my metal friend, it's time to cool you down," Empath said. He got back on his feet and pressed the button on his water sprayer control, issuing a stream of water that soaked Bulldozer. He shrieked and started to run off in another direction.
"Oh no, you don't...you're not smurfing away from me!" Empath said.
He chased down the creature until he found him just a short distance away. He again sprayed Bulldozer down with water, which made him more upset, until he was no longer red-hot in appearance.
Empath sensed that the creature was now safe to touch. He grabbed the chain that was at the end of Bulldozer and pulled on it with all his might. Bulldozer screeched as he was being pulled inch by inch by the meddlesome stranger he encountered, not wanting to go back to where he came from.
Chugga, Conroy, and Smurfette watched as Empath came dragging Bulldozer with him by the chain. He seemed to have successfully brought the creature back. "Where do you want this smurf to take him?" Empath asked.
"Uh, just drop him into that pit of water over here," Chugga said, pointing to the pit that was near his and his brother's house.
"That would be this smurf's pleasure," Empath said, before he felt the chain becoming hot again. The three others stood back and watched as Bulldozer became red-hot and enraged, turning the heat back on and ready to dart away.
Empath reacted fast to this. He quickly rushed right in front of the creature and sprayed him again with water. Bulldozer again screeched as he felt the water cooling him down again until it was no longer dangerous to touch.
"He's surely not making this thing easy," Empath said as he picked up the chain again and dragged Bulldozer until he could use his strength to hurl him into the water pit. The creature landed in it with a splash and calmed himself down, closing his eyes and his jaws as he rested.
Both Chugga and Conroy stood there, looking impressed. "Wow, if he able to deal with Bulldozer like that, imagine what he could do to King Tortarus," Chugga said.
"That's one fight I'd like to see and watch as it happens," Conroy said in agreement.
Empath took the water sprayer off his back and handed it back to Conroy. "This smurf would have to say that your invention smurfs flawlessly," Empath said.
"Thank you for helping us, Empath," Conroy said. "Smurfette tells us that you're on the quest to recover all the pieces of Mystic Star, so we would like to reward you with this."
Chugga then produced what appeared to be another piece of the Mystic Star. Empath and Smurfette both watched as that piece now joined with the other two pieces they have in their possession.
Just then, a young female approached them. "You must be the new visitors to our island who are seeking after the pieces of the Mystic Star," she said. "I may be able to help you with that if you can help me."
"We would be able to help you, but what's your name?" Smurfette asked.
"I am Fauna, the daughter of Flora, and I am on my way to the village of the Minimals," the female answered. "However, the way to the village is blocked, and I am not able to get through to meet with my friends and sing my music."
"This smurf may assist you in removing whatever's blocking your way to the Minimal Village, Fauna," Empath said.
"But who are the Minimals?" Smurfette asked.
"Oh, they're a friendly bunch of animals that have all migrated to this island because they're so small, like us," Fauna answered. "I'm sure you'll like them and that they will like you."
"Well, shall we smurf ourselves going on this journey?" Empath asked Smurfette.
"Yes, by all means," Smurfette said, as Empath put his backpack back on and they started along the path with Fauna as their guide.
"Just be careful getting there, that you don't run into the Tortans," Chugga called out as he and his brother watched the three of them depart.

The way to the Minimal Village was a bit harder than they expected it. The path was now becoming difficult to traverse as they had to skirt around the mountain on a very slim path that required the three of them to maintain their balance. Empath used his telekinetic power to keep the three of them safe as they navigated their way across the narrow ledge.
Then they came across something that they didn't expect: a slippery ice ledge. The way became even more treacherous to cross as Empath now had to keep his party from slipping on the ice and falling to their doom on the rocks below. Smurfette also slipped off, but she felt herself being lifted back up and hugging the side of the mountain for all it was worth.
Then the three of them went sliding down a water channel to the bottom, which to Empath and Smurfette felt like going down a water slide back in the Smurf Village. They landed in a pool of water, soaking wet but still alive.
"Are the both of you all right?" Empath asked as he picked himself up out of the pool.
"I'm fine, Empath, don't worry about me," Smurfette answered.
"At the very least, it got us close to where we needed to go," Fauna said as she looked at her immediate surroundings.
"If you want to, we can wait until you're dry before we can proceed," Smurfette said.
"There's no need to, for I have my ways," Fauna said. She then closed her eyes and began to sing a beautiful song, and as she did, a strong warm wind blew upon Fauna, and then about a minute later her hair and her clothes were all dry.
"Great Ancestors, this smurf didn't expect you to have magic in your singing," Empath said, looking at Fauna in amazement.
"Well, that's what I have been gifted with, and I make the most of it in every situation," Fauna said. "My mother says that I have the most beautiful singing voice, and the Minimals seem to agree with that."
"Well, I think your voice sounds beautiful enough to be heard by my fellow Smurfs, if you should ever meet them," Smurfette said.
"I appreciate that," Fauna said. "Anyway, let's get ourselves going. The day is nearly reaching its end, and I don't want to be late."
"We're ready whenever you are," Empath said as he let Fauna take the lead again.

Chapter 8

They came to a clearing up ahead where they saw various huts in the distance. "There it is, the Minimal Village, straight ahead," Fauna said.
"So what's keeping us from entering into it, Fauna?" Smurfette asked.
Suddenly they could hear a growling that sounded like it came from an animal, as well as the snapping of jaws hungry for prey. "It's a Snapper Dragon that's been planted at the entrance," Fauna said.
"A Snapper Dragon?" Empath asked, wondering what she meant.
Fauna drew them closer to the entrance of the village, and Empath and Smurfette saw for themselves. It was a carnivorous plant that looked like something they were used to seeing in the Smurf Forest, only much more dangerous. The Snapper Dragon's bulbs reached and snapped their jaws at the three who were approaching it.
"So that's why you can't enter the village," Empath said. "This shouldn't be a problem...although this smurf doesn't like destroying plants, this smurf sees that it needs a pruning."
Empath raced toward the Snapper Dragon and tried to fight against it by punching its bulbs, but the Snapper Dragon just grabbed Empath with one of its jaws and shook him around for a while before throwing him away, landing next to Smurfette and Fauna.
"Apparently it doesn't like the taste of you, Empath," Fauna said.
"But how are we going to defeat it if we can't use strength against it?" Empath asked.
"I was hoping one of you has brought a very powerful scent," Fauna answered. "Snapper Dragons usually don't like smelling those kind of scents."
"A powerful scent," Smurfette wondered. Then she reached into her backpack and pulled out a bottle of something that looked like perfume.
"Smurfette, you brought a bottle of perfume along just for a hike?" Empath asked, sounding incredulous.
"I just figured we may need it, if not just for a private romantic seclusion, Empath," Smurfette said. "Besides, I'm not going to let a wedding present from Vanity smurf to waste."
Smurfette sprayed a bit of the perfume onto the Snapper Dragon, which reacted by coughing and hacking as it seemed to weaken. She sprayed more and more of the perfume until the Snapper Dragon wilted and then disappeared altogether.
"You did it, Smurfette," Fauna said, sounding excited. "You got rid of the Snapper Dragon."
Smurfette giggled. "I'm surely going to tell Vanity about what his perfume smurfed when we return from our honeymoon, Empath."
"Who knew that his perfume would be a plant killer of sorts?" Empath said, also seemingly amazed at what it did to the plant.
Fauna walked in ahead of Empath and Smurfette and found herself greeted by the residents of Minimal Village. Empath and Smurfette were both surprised to find the truth of Fauna's statement, that they were all various types of animals that were now the size of Smurfs.
"Hey, Fauna, good to see you again," a penguin said.
"Did you come to check out my stripes?" a zebra asked.
"I think she may be beary hungry right now," a bear said.
"But who are her friends that are with her?" a gorilla asked.
"I don't know, but they look like they came from the North," a pelican said.
"You mean like from the northmost north?" a walrus asked.
"Well, I'm sure we can cure them of their blueness with something," a squirrel said.
"Maybe they're just born that way, who knows?" a rabbit said.
"Friends, these are Empath and Smurfette, who are both visitors to this island, and they are here to celebrate their honeymoon together," Fauna announced.
"A honeymoon? I didn't know moons were made of honey," a bee said.
"They could be made of cheese," a mouse said.
"I'm sure that means that these two are married and want to experience their first days of being in love together," an owl said.
"That's actually what we were here for," Empath said. "But then we discovered the legend of the Mystic Star, and we decided that we would help assemble it back together and rid the land of King Tortarus."
"King Tortarus?" all the Minimals said together.
"Ooh, he's so frightening, and all his minions," the mouse said.
"I wouldn't want to go anywhere near them if I can help it," a mole said.
"Well, if these two can defeat that giant tortoise, I'd be glad to assist them," a fox said.
"So what do you have to bring us, my fair lady Fauna?" an oppossum asked.
"Just my song to sing to all you Minimals, since it has been a long time from the last time I visited you," Fauna said. "Gather round here so that I can sing my tune to you all and give you hope in the days ahead." Empath and Smurfette watched as all the creatures of Minimal Village joined together to sit around Fauna as she began her song:

I sing to you a song of joy,
For every Minimal girl and boy,
A song that brings you lasting cheer
To bring a smile and wipe away your tears
Rejoice, rejoice, O Utopians,
I sing of peace through all this land

And as Fauna continued to sing, they could see something shining bright over their heads. Empath and Smurfette recognized it as one of the pieces of the Mystic Star, which then joined with the three other pieces they collected.
When her singing ended, Fauna was greeted with applause from all the residents of Minimal Village. "Oh, that just sounded so sweet," a polecat said.
"Ah, shucks, it just touched my heart," a beaver said.
"I wish that you could stay and sing among us all the time," a goat said.
"I will stay with you for awhile, and then I will return to my mother where her garden grows," Fauna said. "In the meantime, my friends may need a place to stay for the night."
"All our houses are full, but there is a hayloft they could sleep in," a pig said.
"I'm sure that they will be very comfortable there," a goose said.
"This smurf appreciates your hospitality, but me and Smurfette will be fine sleeping out under the stars tonight," Empath said.
"By all means," a horse said. "But be careful, because the Tortans are on the loose."
"We will be very careful, I promise you," Smurfette said, sounding grateful.

Out in a private spot near the Minimal Village, Empath and Smurfette lay together on the ground, with Empath prefering just the softness of the ground while Smurfette brought herself a blanket to sleep on. The both of them felt very tired and yet also very restless from all that they have experienced on that day alone.
"So what do you think of the hike we're smurfing on so far, Smurfette?" Empath asked.
"It was a little more than I bargained for, but overall it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be," Smurfette said.
"But just think of what we will tell our fellow Smurfs once this week is over," Empath said. "They will wish that they were here with us, or just with you."
"I don't want to think about returning home yet, Empath," Smurfette said. "Besides, I could only wonder what would happen if we did collect all the pieces of the Mystic Star."
"That makes this smurf wonder where the last piece of the star could be, if it could be anywhere on this island," Empath said.
"Who knows?" Smurfette said. "It may be that King Tortarus might have it, and he's smurfing it under guard so that we cannot get to it."
"So it smurfs like we have to smurf into the lion's den, so to smurf, to get that final piece and restore the Mystic Star," Empath said.
"I don't know if I'm brave enough to smurf it with you, Empath," Smurfette said. "You usually handle all the action stuff, and I get to handle the stuff that requires brains."
"The Utopii said that strength and beauty must smurf together, Smurfette," Empath said. "So far you haven't failed to smurf your part in this adventure."
"Let's rest for tonight and not think about smurfing the final piece of the Mystic Star until morning," Smurfette said as she snuggled herself close to Empath.
Empath sighed as he held Smurfette close to him. "Have a restful night tonight, Smurfette. We will smurf each other again in the morning."

Empath and Smurfette both slept peaceful that night, but in the middle of the night Empath heard a voice calling in his head. Empath, can you hear this one?
Empath recognized who the voice was. Polaris, why are you trying to communicate with this smurf right now?
This one had felt the disconnection between you and this one the other night when you were...mating with Smurfette, Polaris said.
This smurf apologizes for that happening, Polaris, Empath said. But you got to know that the two of us, meaning this smurf and Smurfette, had just formed a new bond between us as husband and wife.
That is what this one has been sensing, Polaris said. In any case, this one does not mean to intrude upon your private time with Smurfette right now.
The both of us are just resting tonight, so we won't be having any intimate moments between us until the time we return to Utopia Village, Empath said.
Your private moments with Smurfette are not this one's business to know about, Empath, Polaris said. But suffice it to say that this one does miss your presence being in the Smurf Village right now.
Don't worry about us, Polaris, Empath said. We will return home in a week. We will smurf in touch with each other when we come home.
This one understands and acknowledges, Empath, Polaris said. Continue to enjoy your honeymoon with Smurfette, and have a restful night.
And then things became quiet in Empath's mind again.

Empath slept soundly the rest of the night. In the morning, he woke up and found out that Smurfette wasn't there beside him. He scanned for her presence, but couldn't seem to find her anywhere in Minimal Village. He decided to ask the villagers questions.
"Excuse this smurf, but has anyone seen where Smurfette might have smurfed off to last night?" Empath asked.
"No, Empath, and I don't think most of us were awake last night to see anything," the zebra answered.
"Maybe she returned to Utopia Village when you weren't awake," the mole suggested.
"But why should she do that?" the penguin asked.
"I don't know," the walrus answered. "Maybe she forgot something that she left back there with the Utopii."
"Maybe it's the Tortans that came by night who took her," the bear suggested.
"Perhaps I can help you find the lovely blue lady of yours," the fox offered.
"This smurf would gladly appreciate the help," Empath said.
The fox went with Empath over to the spot where he and Smurfette were sleeping together. The fox sniffed the ground and detected something. "Aha, I do smell the scent of those wretched Tortans. They were here last night, and they have taken Smurfette away to King Tortarus' lair."
"Do you know where the lair is, and how we can get in?" Empath asked.
"I do know that it's up in that mountain on this island, but how to get in is one thing I do not know," the fox answered. "There are many secret entrances leading to that place, but finding just one of them is going to be impossible unless we can get our hands on a Tortan."
"Then that's what we'll have to do," Empath said, picking up his backpack.
Just then, Fauna came out of one of the huts. "What happened, Empath?" she asked. "I just heard that Smurfette is missing."
"Smurfette may have been taken by the Tortans, and this smurf cannot sense where she is right now, probably because where she is has been shielded by magic," Empath said. "We're going to have to find a Tortan that will take us to her."
"Oh dear," Fauna moaned. "I only hope that Smurfette is all right. Who knows what King Tortarus has in store for her?"

Meanwhile, Smurfette found herself in a secret location that she couldn't find out exactly where it was. The room she was in had no windows, and the only light came from a crack in the ceiling. She had no idea how long she was in there for. She only hoped that Empath would find out and come to her rescue soon.
Just then the door opened, and two guards came in, holding spears. "You are to come with us to King Tortarus, young lady," one of the guards said. "Cooperate with us, and you will not be hurt."
Smurfette realized she had no choice. She went with the guards into the chamber where King Tortarus was sitting on his throne, and was pushed down onto her knees to fall and give worship unto the tyrant king.
"I'd say welcome, my pretty little darling," the King said. "You seem to have a knack of being in places where you don't belong."
"King Tortarus, why have you brought me here?" Smurfette asked. "And where am I?"
"If you must know, you're still on the island, and I plan to conquer everything that is on it very soon," the King answered. "It's you and your little blue friend that are the problem. You are collecting pieces of a sacred treasure that you have no right to collect. And I would rather you give up those pieces that you have before I do something very terrible to you."
"I don't have those pieces," Smurfette said. "Empath has them. If you want them, you'll have to smurf a hold of him."
"I plan to, by having him come to you so that he can try to rescue you," the King said. "And when I do, I will have the both of you in my clutches, and the Mystic Star will be splintered in pieces again, and scattered to places where nobody can find them ever again...especially the last piece that I have in my possession."
"You had the last piece of the Mystic Star all along?" Smurfette asked.
"What is it to you if I did?" the King said, sneering. "When I get my hands on your friend, none of you are going to do anything but watch me break it again. And your little quest to overthrow my future reign on this island will come to nothing, and everything here will submit to me, King Tortarus!"
"Empath will come and defeat you, and you will fall before him!" Smurfette said defiantly.
King Tortarus seemed tired of having to talk to her. "Guards, take her back to her cell," he ordered. "I will figure out what I will do with her next."
The guards then came and took hold of Smurfette, forcing her to leave the king's chambers, while the king continued to sit on his throne and brood.

Chapter 9

Empath and the fox went scouting around the island, looking for possible entrances that the Tortans might use to go in and out of King Tortarus' secret lair. Ultimately they came across a lone Tortan who was wandering around by himself, one that the fox particularly recognized. "That is Creepshell, the one who I constantly see by himself on this island," he said. "He must be the one who is the most loyal to King Tortarus himself."
"Let's see how loyal he actually is," Empath said.
Creepshell's wandering soon led him straight into Empath himself, who just stood there in his path. "This smurf is willing to wager you wouldn't happen to know anything about a young blue female your fellows have just captured recently," he said.
"Uh, actually, I don't know what you're talking about," Creepshell said, sounding a bit fearful.
"This smurf can sense that you do, and unless you want this smurf to shake you out of your shell, you had better give this smurf some answers," Empath said.
"Uh, actually, you'll have to catch me first," Creepshell said as he started to run off. "See you later."
Empath stood there for a moment, then caused his star mark to glow. Instantly, Creepshell found himself tripping and falling, flipping over many times until he landed on his back, unable to move.
Empath came over to where Creepshell was lying and picked him up. "You're going to lead this smurf to a way that this smurf can reach Smurfette, or this smurf will smurf much worse to you than smurf you on your back," he demanded.
"Please, don't hurt me," Creepshell cried out. "I will help you, but there is only one way that beings as big as you can go in through."
Empath put Creepshell back on his feet, who then led him on a way to a secret passageway that was hidden underneath a mossy growth. "Stay close to me, and you won't get lost," Creepshell warned.
Empath followed Creepshell into the passageway, which admittedly was dark, though Empath could sense his way through without stumbling. Then he came to a giant chamber where all he could say was "Great Ancestors!" as he saw a massive army of Tortans armed with various types of weapons that they intended to use on the residents of the island.
"That's as far as I'll take you," Creepshell said. "You're pretty much on your own from here. Have a good day!" And with that, the Tortan ran off.
Empath decided that he would try to skirt around the massive weapons complex, keeping a low profile as much as he could in order not to draw any attention to himself. Most of the Tortans were too busy with their weapons-building and military drills to pay much attention to what Empath was doing.
Then he came to a room that seemed to be heavily guarded, with a massive door in front of it. He could sense that it must be King Tortarus' main chamber. He used his mental abilities to make himself invisible and undetectable so that he could slip by them unnoticed. The guards just continued on with their duties oblivious to what was going on.
Then Empath came to a room that strangely didn't seem to be guarded, but was locked with a heavy lock. He touched the lock and caused it to open, allowing him to step into the room. Inside he could sense that there was Smurfette.
"Empath, is that you?" Smurfette said when he entered.
"Yes, it is this smurf who has come to get you out," Empath answered.
"Empath, King Tortarus has the last piece of the Mystic Star," Smurfette said.
"Then we must find a way to smurf it from his hands so we can fully restore the Mystic Star," Empath said. "Do you know where it is?"
"I'm afraid I don't," Smurfette said.
"Then we will have to search the entire place until we can find it," Empath said. "Follow me and try to stay quiet."
Empath and Smurfette both left the prison cell and tried to get as far as they could, but they were both soon stopped by two towering guards that grabbed the both of them. "It's no use, Smurfette," Empath said as he struggled uselessly. "This smurf can't break free of this guard."
"Me neither," Smurfette said, finding herself unable to break free of her guard's iron grip.
Then an evil laugh rang loudly as King Tortarus approached them. "Well, what have we here?" he said. "You have something that I want, something that will interfere with my plans to conquer this island...the four pieces of the Mystic Star. I have the fifth piece right here with me on my royal belt, but there's no way you're going to get your hands on it to restore the Mystic Star."
"We won't let you smurf your hands on the other four pieces of the Mystic Star, King Tortarus!" Empath boldly stated.
"We will see about that!" King Tortarus retorted. "Guards, search this little blue man's pack until you find it."
"Uh, it's right here, boss," the guard holding Empath said, pulling out the incomplete Mystic Star from Empath's backpack.
"Good work," King Tortarus said. "Now you two can watch as I break the Mystic Star again in pieces and scatter them so that they will not be found ever again."
"Oh, Empath, what are we going to do?" Smurfette asked, sounding fearful that everything they did was now going to be undone.
"Just reach out to my hand and touch it," Empath said. "Remember what the Utopii said about strength and beauty smurfing together as one."
Empath and Smurfette both struggled to reach out with a free hand to touch each other, until suddenly they could feel a power flowing between them.
King Tortarus could feel something happening as well. The Mystic Star piece that was on his belt buckle was being pulled away from him to join with the other four assembled pieces. "WHAT? NO! IT CAN'T BE!" he cried out.
Then the Mystic Star glowed brightly until it filled the room with an incredibly bright light that blinded all the Tortans in the secret lair. They all cowered and fled away as the Mystic Star began to destroy everything that they have built for the conquest of the island.
Empath and Smurfette still held onto each other, still filled with the power that their union had imbued them with. Then King Tortarus charged straight toward them in a rage, but a blast of power from the Mystic Star struck him and caused him to be catapulted high in the air as far from the island as he could go.
Then the Mystic Star floated before Empath and Smurfette. "I am the Mystic Star, and I am glad that you have made me whole again," the Star said. "This island has been under the tyranny of King Tortarus for far too long, but it has been by your working together as one that you have restored light and peace to this land. May the rest of your lives be filled with joy and peace as you return to your own world."
With that, the Star raised itself up into the sky, filling the rest of the island with light.
Smurfette sighed. "Well, that was the end of that adventure. I just hope now the rest of our honeymoon would be nice and peaceful," she said.
"This smurf was expecting much more out of this, but all things considered, this smurf is glad that the Mystic Star is restored and all is well on the island again," Empath said.

The Utopii were busy doing their own things in their village when one of them said, "Look, here come the two newlyweds." They all dropped what they were doing and saw Empath and Smurfette returning, looking no worse for wear as they came back from what seemed to be an enjoyable hiking trip.
Papi Utopi greeted Empath with a hug, as did Mami Utopi to Smurfette. "Thank the Mystic Star that you have returned in one piece from your adventure," Papi said. "We were beginning to worry about you."
"I trust that what you found on your journey was an experience meant for you to learn from in your marriage together," Mami said.
"Indeed we have, Papi Utopi," Empath said.
"We shouldn't underestimate the power of the union of both strength and beauty in a marriage," Smurfette said.
"You must be tuckered out from your long journey," Papi said. "We will get you a supper prepared so that you can restore yourself and be a new person."
"This smurf appreciates it, Papi, but this smurf and Smurfette would rather just retire to our hut so that we could rest," Empath requested.
"Oh, of course," Papi said, understanding what the couple needed at that moment.
When Empath and Smurfette were alone with each other in their hut, they both let out a sigh of relief. "That was certainly more adventure than we can handle for this honeymoon, Empath," Smurfette said.
"This smurf agrees with you on that," Empath said. "Maybe it would be better for us to stay in the village and just enjoy smurfing in the company of the Utopii."
"And enjoy each other's company in private when they're not smurfing," Smurfette said playfully.
Empath nodded with a smile. "All this adventure is certainly giving this smurf a fiery passion for you right now, Smurfette."
"Hey, don't you think we should save the passion for later on?" Smurfette asked.
Empath kissed Smurfette. "This smurf is not in a mood to wait. We might as well smurf the best of this moment while we have the chance."
"Well, my big smurfing hero, what are you waiting for?" Smurfette said, kissing Empath back.
"Let's smurf the passion while it's still hot and burning," Empath said, as he closed the door and continued on kissing, with Smurfette kissing him back.

Empath's personal journal.
The rest of the week of our honeymoon was rather quiet, to say the least. We did get to visit the Minimals in their village one more time, and we did get to see Flora and her garden of giant flowers, which are still continuing to thrive, and we did visit Willow's grave and mourned for the loss of his never being married to his sweetheart, and we visited Chugga and Conroy one last time to check up on their pet Bulldozer. But the Tortans seemed to just disappear altogether from the island. Apparently the presence of the Mystic Star being fully restored is preventing them from rearing themselves back up to do anyone any harm on the island. As for this smurf and Smurfette's private times together...well, some pleasures are just better left undocumented.

By the end of the week, Empath and Smurfette were ready to head back to the Smurf Village. Empath was dressed in just his star-pattern suit and hat with no shirt, and Smurfette was wearing a purple tube dress with heels and a hat. The Utopii gave the couple a farewell feast to wish them well for the rest of their married lives together and that they would always remember their visit with the Utopians.
Empath and Smurfette were waiting at the beach when the stork arrived and landed with the wicker gondola, allowing Empath to strap the luggage back onto the bird's neck before they both hopped onto the gondola and flew off together.
Smurfette looked back on the island with a tear in her eye. "Already I'm starting to miss being around the Utopians on that island," Smurfette said.
"We could visit them again in the future if you like, Smurfette," Empath said. "Papi Utopi said we were always welcome to return whenever we want."
"But we could be smurfing in paradise forever with each other," Smurfette said.
"This smurf already has visited paradise...and that paradise is you, my dear," Empath said, kissing her.
Smurfette smiled. "I'm glad that you think of me as being in paradise, because I wouldn't want to be anywhere else except to be with you."
And with that, the two of them kissed as they continued to fly on their way back to the Smurf Village.

Bonus story #1: "The Wedding Present"

It was about a week after the wedding of Empath and Smurfette that they had returned from their honeymoon at a distant island paradise. During the time of their absence, the Smurfs in the village were busy preparing something special for the newlyweds for when they return, working rather diligently around the clock to make sure it was ready for the couple.
Then came the day when Tracker spotted the stork carrying the wicker gondola with Empath and Smurfette in it heading toward the village. “Smurfs, get ready!” he announced. “It’s Empath and Smurfette! They’re smurfing home!”
All the Smurfs gathered around the center of the village where the stork landed, lowering the gondola and allowing Empath and Smurfette to step off and grab their bags. They were rather dressed down from how they appeared when they had left for their honeymoon – Empath was just wearing his star-patterned hat and pants with no shirt on, and Smurfette was in a purple tube dress with her regular white heels, yet still wearing Empath’s hat. But there was something rather different about Empath that went beyond his being this dressed down, and it wasn’t just Empath’s best friend Polaris Psyche who was sensing this difference about him. He wore a rather big smile on his face, and his eyes were a bit glazed with his eyelids at half-mast. It was almost as if Empath was drunk on something, though Polaris sensed that his friend hadn’t taken any substance that would make him look that way.
“Welcome home, Empath and Smurfette,” Papa Smurf greeted as he embraced the two of them together. “I trust that you had a real smurfy time enjoying yoursmurfs and smurfing to know each other better on your honeymoon.”
“The island paradise was just so incredible, Papa Smurf,” Empath answered. “Marco Smurf couldn’t have smurfed a better place for us to smurf a week together with just the two of us. The weather was just so wonderful, the beaches are excellent, the food is just so plentiful and delicious…we even smurfed on a hike together up the mountain that oversmurfed the sea.”
Papa Smurf looked at Empath rather strangely, not believing what he was hearing. “Is this my son speaking in Smurf all of a sudden, or did somebody smurf places with him on that island?” he asked Smurfette.
“Honestly, I don’t know how that happened, Papa Smurf,” Smurfette replied. “It just smurfed about a day into our honeymoon, and now I just can’t smurf him to stop. He smurfs that there’s nothing wrong with him that made him smurf like he’s been speaking in Smurf all his life.”
“Maybe it’s smurfing alone with you on that island that’s smurfed that, Smurfette,” Snappy suggested, sounding a bit sly.
“Or maybe that’s just something that’s smurfed to happen, smurfing among us for about ten smurfs straight,” Nat offered, ignoring Snappy’s comment.
“Empath has been known to speak in Smurf language on occasion when he reaches a certain emotional peak, such as being very angry or very scared or even sometimes very happy,” Polaris reported. “However, this one has now detected a new kind of link in his brain that wasn’t present the last time this one has scanned him. This link must have enabled him to access this normal natural ability of a Smurf to speak in Smurf language rather flawlessly. Other than that and his brain being overstimulated by the amount of activity he must have engaged in with Smurfette on this ‘honeymoon’, Empath is functioning normally.”
“This smurf has never smurfed any better, Papa Smurf,” Empath tried to reason. “This smurf is still the same Smurf you know from our years smurfing together off and on, just with this ability to finally speak in Smurf without smurfing like I’m going to smurf something wrong in the process. This smurf could go back in smurfing in Psychelian if that’s what you’re used to, but somehow I don’t feel like I want to smurf back to smurfing that way.”
“I have no complaints about that, Empath,” Papa Smurf responded, chuckling. “I’m just surprised that it smurfed you 160 years of your life to finally start speaking in Smurf, and now in the smurf of a week it just happens right out of the blue. I guess smurfing in love with Smurfette has really smurfed you for the better.”
“Now if I can just smurf him to stop smurfing at me all the time,” Smurfette playfully added. “I mean, no matter where we smurfed on the island or what we smurfed, I just couldn’t smurf him to smurf his eyes off me for a single minute. I couldn’t get changed behind a rock without smurfing like he’s smurfing at me with smurf-through eyes. And personally, I can smurf that he enjoys every single minute of smurfing at me like that!” She looked at Empath, whose facial expression seemed to confirm what she was saying about him, and placed her right hand on the back of Empath’s head, patting him like a dog. Empath’s expression didn’t change.
Now it was Tapper’s turn to look at Empath rather strangely. “Great Smurfiny Crickets, my dear Empath, I never thought that a gentlesmurf like you would be such a voyeur that enjoys smurfing at Smurfette. But then, the Good Book does smurf to married men to let their wife’s smurfs satisfy them at all times, and to let themsmurfs be captured by her love.” He then turned to Smurfette. “I wouldn’t worry too much about him smurfing at you like that, as long as his eyes are only on you and no other female that smurfs across his path – which is a fortunate thing in this village, given that there are only two female Smurfs smurfing here.”
"Hey, leave the lad and lassie alone," Duncan McSmurf said. "I can smell it from the two of them that they certainly enjoyed their honeymoon, and they should be proud of that."
“That feeling Smurfette may be experiencing is that of a telepathic bonding between Empath and herself,” Polaris mentioned. “This could have been caused by their initial intimate activity that has bonded them together as husband and wife. She may be experiencing the same kind of thoughts that Empath has in a way she has never experienced them before this bond took place.”
“Something like what the Good Book smurfed about Adam ‘knowing’ his wife, perhaps,” Tapper guessed.
“It doesn’t mean that Smurfette is turning into a telepath, fellow Tapper,” Polaris responded. “It does mean that only she can personally know what Empath must be thinking at all times, given what this one can sense in Smurfette.”
“You two must be all smurfered out from all that you smurfed on your honeymoon,” Papa Smurf observed after looking at the newlywed couple again. “While you both were smurfing your fun together, I had all my little Smurfs smurfing together a surprise gift waiting for you for when you returned to the village.” He then turned to Handy, who was standing nearby. “Is this surprise gift ready for them?”
“It’s all smurfed, Papa Smurf,” Handy answered. “We just got it finished, cleaned up, and ready for Empath and Smurfette to smurf into.”
“What’s the surprise you smurfed for us, Papa Smurf?” Smurfette asked, curious to know.
“Well, smurf up your bags and we will show you, Smurfette, Empath,” Papa Smurf answered. Empath followed behind Smurfette, carrying their bags with them, as they followed Papa Smurf and the other Smurfs to the eastern section of the village, where Smurfette’s house was located.
When they arrived there, Empath and Smurfette stood astonished at the sight of Smurfette’s house. It was made bigger with the addition of four adjoining smaller mushroom-shaped sections, indicating that there were additional rooms added to the bottom floor of the house. The two of them weren’t sure what to make of this adjustment to her house that the Smurfs made during her absence from the village.
“We figured that since you two Smurfs want a place where you could smurf alone together, we might as well smurf up your place to make it your private smurfuary,” Handy told Smurfette. “Just wait until you smurf at what rooms we smurfed inside your new home with your husband – some of which I think Empath will also enjoy.”
“Before we smurf inside, Empath, I believe it’s customary for the husband to smurf his bride across the threshold into his new home,” Papa Smurf reminded Empath, who seemed all too eager to check out the renovations to Smurfette’s house.
Empath didn’t seem to mind the delay in order to follow a marital custom. “Well, who is this smurf not to oblige his wife of this unique privilege?” he responded. He then dropped the bags and cradled Smurfette into his arms. “Ready to smurf inside our new home together…Mrs. Empath Smurf?”
“Ready whenever you are…Mr. Empath Smurf,” Smurfette replied, giggling. Handy opened the door to Smurfette’s house as Empath carried Smurfette across the threshold and went inside, with Papa Smurf and some of the other Smurfs following, and Polaris carrying their bags inside.
Empath and Smurfette were more astonished by the change of the interior section of Smurfette’s house than they were of the exterior change. The main bottom floor room now had a dining table in front of her fireplace, which was located underneath a fancy chandelier. Also in the same room was a living room section with a couple of couches surrounding a coffee table and a cabinet with Smurfette’s windowvision crystal screen and Empath’s Game Wand. The four adjoining room sections included a kitchen, an art studio for Empath, a private study room for Smurfette, and even a bathtub with a curtain to pull across its doorway. Handy showed that the bathtub actually drew water from the village reservoir and was capable of not only heating up the water, but also of draining the water in a way that would not pollute the land or the water when it was drained.
“There’s also a control that smurfs the water to bubble up as you smurf in it, that will help either of you to relax from a hard day’s smurf,” Handy mentioned as he finished showing them the tub.
"Although if you two want to smurf a bath together in that thing now that you're married, I have no complaints," Duncan said suggestively.
“I hope you like the style of the curtains I smurfed out for the various rooms, and the throw pillows for the couches, and the rugs for the floors, and all those little touches I smurfed to make you and Empath smurf right at home,” Vanity said as he directed their attention to those details.
“And let’s not forget ze paint colours to help smurf your living space into a real masteurpiesa,” Painter added.
“And your kitchen is smurfed with plenty of dishes, cups, and utensils for your smurfonal dining pleasure,” Greedy joined in. “Of course, I hope the two of you will join us for meals from time to time. It just wouldn’t be the same for us to not smurf the two of you smurfing meals with us.”
“I also made smurf that your chimney is as clean as a whistle before the two of you smurfed home,” Sweepy said, trying to keep his distance from Empath and Smurfette since he was still covered in soot.
“And me and my smurfing crew made sure it was all smurf and span after Sweepy smurfed his thing with the chimney,” Tidy finished. “Of course, if you ever need a Smurf to smurf up your house, I’m always ready to smurf the job for you.”
Empath noticed the pictures that hung on the walls, which were mostly photos that Vanity had taken of both Empath and Smurfette being together. One of them Empath noticed was the time he and Smurfette spent the day of the Summer Solstice together in the Imaginarium beach setting, with Smurfette modeling her latest swimsuit and Empath in his tiger-striped bikini briefs that made Smurfette playfully embarrass him. Empath had no idea that Vanity would preserve such a moment like this for posterity, and frankly, neither did Smurfette when she also saw the picture.
“I still think you smurfed cute when your face smurfed red when I smurfed you in that swimsmurf, Empath,” Smurfette commented. “I can still smurf the color in your face in this photo picture. And I can smurf that you’re still embarrassed by the sight of this moment being captured.” She giggled afterward when she noticed Empath’s face again turning red. But this time Empath wasn’t all that intimidated by her doing that.
“I guess there’s just no smurfing that thought from you, Smurfette,” Empath responded. “You always liked smurfing at this smurf like I was just some object for you to smurf at, even when you tried to deny it.”
Smurfette’s gaze was upon another picture, which also amazed her as much as it amused her. “That was the time you smurfed me up as this Lady Space character, and Jokey challenged me to shock him, and so I did with a bit of help from Papa Smurf,” she explained as the two of them looked at the picture.
“Hey, let me smurf,” Jokey interrupted, taking the picture from the both of them. He was surprised that Vanity would capture the moment so perfectly, when Jokey held Smurfette as Lady Space’s hand and felt as if he had touched a live power circuit, jolting him so severely that it left him walking around with the hairs of his skin standing up on end for the rest of that day. “Vanity Smurf, how dare you smurf a picture of me when the joke smurfs back at me! I don’t smurf anything funny about it!”
Most of the other Smurfs laughed, remembering that moment themselves. Even Grouchy, the village sourpuss, couldn’t help but snicker at the thought of when that happened, finding it very hard to maintain his usual scowl.
“Now this is the picture that I truly smurf is beautiful,” Empath declared as he directed Smurfette’s gaze toward the picture Vanity took of her wearing a rippling blue water dress – the very same dress she wore on her Ray Of Sunshine album cover. In fact, the picture itself was from the album cover shoot.
“I couldn’t believe I smurfed that album about seven years ago,” Smurfette said, staring at wonder at herself from that time. “Of course, I couldn’t have smurfed that album if it wasn’t for you, Empath.”
“And there’s the picture I smurfed of you with Crinkles the dinosaur, Smurfette,” Vanity pointed out, “which smurfed about a year for me to develop since we were smurfed on that time-travelling adventure that we thought we would never smurf home from if it weren’t for Empath and his friend Polaris.”
Smurfette remembered that day very well, which was right around Empath’s 155th birthday. She also remembered being time-lost with her fellow Smurfs when they lost the Key of Chronos in the prehistoric era they brought Crinkles back home to, and having to rely upon Papa Smurf’s limited understanding of how to align its crystals so they could hopefully return to their own home in the time period they belonged to. Yet no matter what time period she and her fellow Smurfs ended up in, the only thing Smurfette could think of was coming home to Empath. Eventually they also lost the crystals, but somehow Empath managed to find both the key and the crystals and opened the doorway for them to return home, almost a year later around his 156th birthday.
Empath could sense that thought in Smurfette, who herself was sensing that Empath was rather uncomfortable remembering the year when he was left all alone with Polaris as his companion, wondering if he ever was going to see the likes of Smurfette again, and almost dying in the process of bringing his fellow Smurfs home. Smurfette knew there was a reason Empath had called that time "the year of ****", for despite all the goofy mishaps they had gone through in their separate travels during that time, it truly wasn't a picnic for either of them being apart from each other for that long. Vanity began to realize something was wrong when he heard Empath crack the glass of the picture when he was holding it in his hands. “Maybe it would be better not to have this smurfing on the wall of our house, Vanity,” Smurfette suggested. “It smurfs up too many bad memories.”
“I’ll smurf on to it, just in case you change your mind about it,” Vanity promised as Smurfette handed him the picture in question. As proud as he was for taking the picture with Smurfette and Crinkles in it, he didn’t like seeing Empath be reminded of a painful memory by having it being around in his new house.
“So…any of you want to smurf what we’ve done to the bedroom?” Handy interrupted, eager to continue on with the tour of Smurfette’s remodeled house. Empath and Smurfette decided to do just that.
The bedroom wasn’t all that different from the last time Empath went into and saw it. It did, however, include a second dresser and a much bigger closet for both Empath’s and Smurfette’s clothes, plus the bed was totally different. Empath noticed the minute he sat down on the bed that it shifted this way and that, as if the mattress was basically a bag full of water.
“You’ll be smurfing on my latest invention, Empath and Smurfette,” Handy described. “It’s called a waterbed. It will smurf the both of you a good night’s sleep, and it will smurf you warm when the nights smurf cold.”
"I doubt that it's ever going to smurf cold with those two smurfing together in it," Duncan said.
“Aye, Empath, take a smurf at what I smurfed up above your bed,” Tapper directed.
Empath and Smurfette noticed a plaque that read: He smurfed me to his banqueting table, and his banner over me was love.
“That’s from the Song of Solomon, from your holy book, Tapper,” Empath realized.
“That’s just so beautiful,” Smurfette said, remembering the Imaginarium fantasy setting she and Empath had entered that was based on the Song of Solomon, where she played the part of the Shulamite woman and Empath a servant of King Solomon, her “beloved”, as Smurfs would have interpreted it.
“Everything in this house is just so incredible, like a dream smurfed true,” Smurfette finally said. “I’m not sure how me or Empath could ever thank you Smurfs enough for smurfing so much for us.”
“Even though you smurfed your heart completely to Empath, it doesn’t mean we still can’t smurf our love for you, Smurfette,” Hefty answered, sounding like he was speaking for the rest of his fellow Smurfs. “Smurfing the two of you being happy together like this is all we could ever smurf for.”
“So how do you like this new home we smurfed for you, Empath?” Papa Smurf asked.
“Smurfing in this smurf’s own Smurf house years ago just doesn’t compare to what you and all the other Smurfs have accomplished in just a week of us smurfing away on our honeymoon, Papa Smurf,” Empath complimented.
“Well, let me smurf you a little something to help you and Smurfette get settled into your new home,” Tapper said as he presented them a bottle of well-aged smurfberry wine. “I smurfed this in my cellar in the hopes that it would have been me and Smurfette smurfing together like this, but being the gentlesmurf that I am and your best friend, I am letting you and Smurfette smurf the privilege of opening up this special bottle for this special occasion.”
“Tapper, this smurf couldn’t accept this from you,” Empath mildly objected. “You should smurf this for yourself in case you do smurf that special someone in your life that you want to smurf forever with.”
“If there were only a village of Smurfettes that our village of Smurfs could encounter someday for us to marry, Empath, I would consider smurfing this bottle until that time smurfs,” Tapper remarked. “But things smurfing what they are, nothing would make me smurfier than to see Smurfette smurf her happiness with a bit of something smurfed from my own hands with the one her heart truly loves.”
“Tapper, you truly are a special friend,” Smurfette said as she kissed him on the cheek, making him blush.
“Let’s smurf a toast to our new house, Smurfette,” Empath suggested. “It’s the least we can do to smurf our appreciation of this wonderful gift.”
"I would prefer to smurf it with a glass of sarsaparilla ale, but whatever smurfs you two, that I will do," Duncan said.
Empath and Smurfette went back downstairs with the other Smurfs, who apparently were already waiting with champagne glasses in hand. Tapper had anticipated this and brought enough bottles of wine to fill every Smurf’s glass with some of his finest. Only Polaris Psyche refused to have any, since his body couldn’t tolerate fermented drinks of any kind.
“To the new household of Empath and Smurfette,” Tapper toasted, raising his glass high. “May their house always be smurfed with love. The other Smurfs clinked their glasses together and drank to the toast, including Empath and Smurfette.
“Well, it’s been a pleasure to finally smurf you and Smurfette back home into your new home, Empath,” Papa Smurf said after the toasting. “We’ll let you smurf some time alone for you to smurfle in.”
"You two have fun getting smurfled in," Duncan said. "I'm going to leave you two to your own privacy."
“Thanks for everything, Papa Smurf,” Smurfette said, kissing Papa Smurf on the cheek as he and his other little Smurfs departed.
“By the way, Polaris, how was it getting smurfled into your own new home?” Empath asked, preventing his friend from leaving too soon.
“This one is still adjusting to the present condition of solitude since you have given up your previous residence to share your current one with Smurfette, fellow Empath,” Polaris answered with a hint of loneliness in his voice. “However, this one is managing to adapt to the new situation, even though there may be a necessity to adapt this one’s living quarters to suit this one’s sense of personal aesthetics.”
Empath smiled, understanding what Polaris had told him. “Don’t worry about it, my old friend. You’ll smurf used to smurfing there by yourself. This smurf is very certain of that.”
“Hopefully, this one will also ‘get used to’ your new speech patterns,” Polaris responded, realizing that his friend was becoming more like a Smurf than he had been just a week ago. He also bade Empath and Smurfette farewell before he departed.

Later on in the evening, as the other Smurfs prepared for sleep, Empath was sitting on the new bed of his new bedroom, looking around at everything in it as Smurfette changed into her night clothes behind a folding divider. He was so used to sleeping alone in his own house, that it felt rather strange to now share a bedroom with somebody else, even a female Smurf that he married.
He also wasn’t used to this new “telepathic bonding” between himself and Smurfette that formed during their honeymoon that enabled them to sense just what each other was thinking at any given moment. He had never used his mental abilities on Smurfette in such a manner that invaded her private thoughts and with any sense of pleasure in doing so. Now it felt like he knew everything about her, even her most private thoughts, and it was starting to make him feel rather uncomfortable. He could sense that Smurfette now felt also uncomfortable knowing everything there was to know about her husband in her own thoughts. Perhaps in time they would learn together how to control this new ability of “knowing” each other this intimately.
“You haven’t smurfed a word since we got settled in, Empath,” Smurfette finally said, breaking the silence. “But then, I guess we really don’t need to smurf anything since we know what each other is smurfing. You’re smurfing at this house and wondering how this is going to smurf like for the rest of our lives.”
“That’s exactly how this smurf is smurfing at this moment, Smurfette,” Empath replied. “We’re finally together after ten years of smurfing a friendship and then a love relationship, and then this smurf realizes that things in the village aren’t going to smurf the same anymore. There’s already a distance smurfing between us and our fellow Smurfs that this smurf is sensing right now, that they’re going to have to smurf used to smurfing you not as Smurfette, but as Mrs. Empath Smurf. They may not even enjoy smurfing around us anymore when we smurf ourselves in public.”
“I know that feeling, too, Empath,” Smurfette replied, sighing. “I still love my fellow Smurfs, and I have no intention of ever hurting them in any way. But I feel it’s time for them to grow up and undersmurf that I desmurf to have somebody to care for me for all time, that I can’t keep smurfing my life on hold for any of them. Besides, if we ever smurf to the point where we will smurf children, they’re going to be rather busy smurfing the uncles. And I can’t smurf of anyone else I would rather smurf as our children’s uncles than our fellow Smurfs.”
“This smurf can already imagine what that may smurf like, Smurfette,” Empath said, snickering. “Uncle Brainy would be smurfing his Quotations books to our child. Uncle Hefty will be smurfing him baby exercises. Uncle Handy will have him smurfing around with tools. Uncle Greedy will smurf him the various types of food that he smurfs. Uncle Harmony will smurf him how to play the horn, even if he himself still can’t smurf the right note. Uncle Vanity will smurf him the…beautiful side of things that most Smurfs smurf for granted. Uncle Clumsy will smurf him the fun of smurfing with rocks and mud. There’s basically no end to what his uncles will teach him.”
“And what if our child smurfs out to be a girl?” Smurfette asked.
“This smurf will make sure she smurfs the same kind of education from our fellow Smurfs that our child would if it was a boy,” Empath answered. “Of course, we may have to smurf out for her in case Baby Smurf smurfs in love with her.”
Smurfette giggled at the thought as she stepped out from behind the divider. “Well, we still have all the time in the world before we even decide on whether we should start smurfing a child of our own, Empath. Right now, we should just get used to smurfing each other’s company so that our child knows that we truly love each other.”
“My smurfs exactly,” Empath responded as he watched Smurfette approach him. He still couldn’t help being captivated by how beautiful she looked, which was how Empath always saw her as since the first day his eyes fell upon her when he came home from Psychelia for good. But now it was even better than how he first saw her, since she was now giving herself completely to him for all time.
Smurfette noticed Empath looking at her that way since they had been alone together for the past several days. “Is this Smurf sensing some excitement smurfing from a Smurf like you, who’s supposed to be Psychelian in all his behaviors?” she asked playfully.
“Excited?” Empath responded in jest. “Who’s excited? Does this smurf look like he’s excited? That wouldn’t be proper behavior for a Smurf raised to be a Psyche. This smurf is just…simply admiring your beauty, that’s all. Psyches would never behave otherwise.”
Smurfette nodded, sounding like she’s heard this one before, as she joined Empath. “A good thing that this Smurf isn’t married to your friend Polaris Psyche. If that were the case, I’d be smurfing you feel jealous right about now, which isn’t a proper behavior for a Psyche.”
“A good thing the Smurf you married is a Smurf, even if it took years for me to smurf like one,” Empath remarked as he embraced Smurfette and kissed her.
“Isn’t being a Smurf the smurfiest thing in the world for you to be?” Smurfette asked between kisses.
“Wouldn’t smurf this feeling for anything else,” Empath answered as he laid back with Smurfette and kissed her again and again. “I truly love you, Smurfette.”
“And I love you, too, Empath.”
It was the best wedding present they have ever received.

Bonus story #2: "Inquiring Minds Want To Know"

It was the day after Empath and Smurfette had returned from their honeymoon on Utopia Island, and they have just started getting settled in their new house together. It was on this day that Tapper was holding a private conversation with Duncan in the tavern about what they have observed thus far with Empath after his return.
"You've seen how the laddie carries himself today, now that he's smurfed a taste of being alone with Smurfette for a week as a married couple, Tapper?" Duncan asked.
"Every Smurf in the village has noticed this change in demeanor with Empath, my fellow Duncan," Tapper said. "Of course, you with your particular sense of smell could tell that Empath has enjoyed that intimate company over the past week."
"How could I not tell by the way that he smells lately?" Duncan said. "It's like he's now the proud owner of the greatest treasure in all of Smurfland, and he can smurf with it whatever he wants because it all belongs solely to him for his pleasure."
"No doubt every adult male Smurf must be wondering what it was like for Empath to enjoy something that he alone is privy to with Smurfette," Tapper said.
"Aye, there are just some things that the Imaginarium can never be a smurfy substitute for, my dear boy," Duncan said.
"Not that what anybody does in the Imaginarium as far as their personal fantasies are concerned are anyone else's business to know about, Duncan, but now that Smurfette belongs solely to Empath as his wife, it would make any of the adult Smurfs think twice about engaging in such a fantasy setting with her as part of it," Tapper said.
"Hefty's been smurfing the whole thing surprisingly well, which is more than what I was expecting of him since he had his heart smurfed on marrying Smurfette, and he just smurfed up his heart for Smurfette so she could feel love again when Chlorhydris smurfnapped her and smurfed out her heart," Duncan said.
"I still feel a bit of sorrow for him, Duncan, that something that he had smurfed his sights upon is no longer available to him," Tapper said. "I pray that the Almighty will comfort his heart and lead him to someone who will smurf him the happiness that he desired to have with Smurfette."
Just then, Empath had entered the tavern. "Salutations, my fellow Smurfs," he greeted. "So what have you two been smurfing about?"
"Just smurfing about that wonderful glow you seem to be smurfing now that you are a married Smurf, and the scent that I have been smurfing from you now, Empath," Duncan said.
"You must mean how this smurf is now that this smurf has had his hat smurfed by Smurfette, if every Smurf insists on using that term," Empath said.
"That's one way of putting it, Empath," Tapper said. "However, since having intimacy with Smurfette is now your privilege as a married Smurf, you are under no obligation to ever reveal how those private moments with her have been to anyone else who will ask you about it."
"Michty me, you don't want to hear any of the details of how the laddie enjoyed his time with Smurfette?" Duncan asked, sounding incredulous.
"I will not follow in the footsmurfs of my Papa Smurf when he used to be the Smurf who ran this tavern, Duncan," Tapper insisted.
"This smurf senses from your memories that Uncle Séamus was a bit intrusive and a pervert when it comes to wanting to know the intimate actions of his fellow Smurfs and Smurfettes, Tapper," Empath said.
"Uhhhh, I think his interest in that area had smurfed beyond the proper boundaries of a good bartender, Empath," Tapper said with some disgust. "My Mama Smurf would seem to think that smurfing under someone's hat is all my Papa Smurf really cares about, as well as how often the married couples are smurfing it with each other."
"Ah, his Papa Smurf's just acting like a real McSmurf, Empath," Duncan said. "My Papa Smurf always says there's nothing like smurfing a good Smurfette for a wife to bring out the real Smurf in you. I can't help Tapper if he wants to be so squeamish about asking those sort of questions of you."
"Well, I'd rather be led by the Spirit of the Almighty than be led by my hormones, if it's all the same to you, Duncan," Tapper said.
"To be honest, it's rather hard for this smurf to know whether to share how being alone with Smurfette as a married Smurf really was without feeling that I'm revealing something that should be smurfed exclusively in private, Tapper," Empath said. "This smurf does love Smurfette, perhaps even more so now than ever before, and this smurf doesn't want to smurf anything that would jeopardize what we have smurfing on together now."
"I don't think this is something you can always keep smurfed away from your fellow Smurfs now, Empath," Duncan said. "If you truly love Smurfette more than you ever did before, that love's going to show in public more than you would want it to."
"That's very true, Duncan," Tapper said. "Even though the village doesn't need to know all the details, your love for Smurfette as a married Smurf is going to be a lot more noticeable than it's ever been, and you may not be able to smurf it back."
Empath smiled. "This smurf guesses that there's just no hiding this smurf's feelings about Smurfette now. Every moment of my waking hours, this smurf feels like spending it with Smurfette in whatever she's doing. It's like touching that magic orb and wanting more of its power to make me feel so complete."
"It's interesting that you speak of your relationship with Smurfette like it's an addiction, my fellow Empath," Tapper said. "I could only imagine how much restraint you have to smurf upon yourself just to live out a normal day now when you feel like you just want to smurf some more private time with your wife."
"But surely you're not looking to be cured of this feeling you have, aren't you, my boy?" Duncan asked.
"Would this smurf ever want to be cured of that feeling this smurf has for Smurfette?" Empath said. "There's just no amount of words to describe what being alone and intimate with Smurfette even feels like. Maybe someday this smurf might be able to find the words to express those feelings, but right now..."
"You do not need to worry about a loss for words with that experience, Empath," Tapper said. "We will simply accept the fact that you truly enjoyed the moments you had with Smurfette, and I will pray that you will have many more of those private moments together."

Sometime later, Empath and Smurfette met Grandpa Smurf and Nanny as they were getting Grandpa's balloon ready to sail back to Smurfling Island.
"Granpda, you're leaving us again?" Smurfette asked.
"I figure that I and Nanny would remain here until you returned, my young darling," Grandpa said. "We wanted to see that you're happy smurfing with Empath and that all is well with you."
"Besides, who knows?" Nanny said. "We might end up visiting Utopia Island ourselves to see how it is."
"This smurf ensures that you will have a pleasant time smurfing with its natives," Empath said.
"We surely had a pleasant time, more than we were expecting to, anyway," Smurfette said.
"Well, you two have a wonderful marriage together," Grandpa said. "Nanny and I might visit you again sometime in the future, Mother Nature and Father Time be smurfing."
"Are we ready to smurf sail, Grampers?" Nanny asked as she and Grandpa got into the basket together.
"Just got to remove this anchor, and we're all smurfed to go," Grandpa answered, lifting up the anchor that tethered the balloon to the ground in the spot that Grandpa had kept it. Soon the balloon arose from the ground, lifting high into the sky. "See you later, my young grandsmurfs!"
"Farewell, Grandpa and Nanny," Empath exclaimed as he and Smurfette stood there and waved at the couple, watching the balloon rise higher and higher until it disappeared behind the tops of the trees.
"Well, Nanny sure smurfed me a lot of questions about how our honeymoon was, Empath," Smurfette said. "I didn't know what exactly to smurf her because she wanted to know everything that smurfed on."
"This smurf sensed that you let her know exactly what she needed to know, and smurfed the private information to yourself, Smurfette," Empath said.
"I just wish that she could have had what we smurfed together with Grandpa Smurf back in her younger days," Smurfette said with a sigh.
"She's happy with Grandpa Smurf as they are now, Smurfette," Empath said. "Let's focus on what the two of us have together and leave Grandpa and Nanny's relationship alone."
"I just hope when we leave this world, we will leave it together like Grandpa and Nanny," Smurfette said as she looked into Empath's eyes.
"Hopefully that will happen, Smurfette," Empath said, as the two of them embraced and kissed each other.

Personal rumination:

Would I do an adult version of this story if morality wasn't an issue?

I don't think I would. Somehow writing detailed intimate love scenes would make the whole thing seem creepy and nasty, and that's what I was trying to avoid when writing this story. I'd rather leave it to the imagination of the readers to figure out what went on when Empath and Smurfette were alone together, as I usually do when writing love scenes that lead to...well, those intimate moments between characters.
