Before they were renamed Smurfs, they were originally referred to as Goblins. This story is a Merry-Go-Round book from London in the early 1970s. It's a rare treat to see what the little blue beings were originally called in English, before they were changed to the Dutch name of their species to avoid confusion. The story is done by Peyo and illustrations by Michel Matagne. The story was originally called "Le petit canard et les Schtroumpfs" in French, which translates literally to "The Little Duck and the Smurfs".

Don't know why they call the Smurfs goblins in this translation.

The translation was made during a time before The Smurfs ever arrived to North America in the late 70s. The names for the translators were never revealed, so nobody knew who translated this story book. As for the special Smurf language, it was omitted here for unknown reasons. Yet it still remains in international releases of the book, if you look at the French and Dutch versions.
