Nine Culliford (born Janine Devroye), who was the widow of Pierre Culliford (the original artist known as Peyo) just recently died.

This is very sad news. I am glad, Vic George, that you posted this, because it wasn't on American news at all. This was all I could find about her on ABC... and it's and Australian website!
"Nine Culliford - the widow of Belgian cartoonist Peyo (Pierre Culliford), who was instrumental in choosing the colour blue - says her husband was never overtly political, but avidly read the newspaper and made his creations address current themes."
Nine Culliford was the one who suggested that Peyo make the Smurfs the color blue. She died at 65.

I'm sorry, everysmurf. She died at 86, not 65.
She lived from March 29, 1930 to July 5, 2016.
