 Smurf Pinata
A pinata is a colorful papier-mâché figure with a hollow cavity filled with candy, small toys or treats that is suspended from a height and broken open by blindfolded children as part of a celebration.
A Smurf Pinata is a great idea for a Smurf-themed Birthday Party or any other celebration!!!

HOW TO MAKE A SMURF PINATA
MATERIALS NEEDED:
* Balloons * Cardboard * Newspaper * Paper Mache Paste * Paint * Crepe Paper * String or Yarn * Masking Tape
INSTRUCTIONS:
Paper mache can be very messy so make sure you protect your work area!
1. Tear Paper Strips - Tear several newspaper pages into strips (about 1-inch wide and 6-8-inches long). You'll need a lot of strips!
2. Create your Smurf Shape - Blow up a balloon to make a head. Later on, use cardboard to create the nose, ears and hat. Egg cartons and paper rolls work well. If you are creating body parts (ie. legs and arms), use toilet rolls and paper towel rolls.
3. Make your Paper Mache Paste - Combine equal amounts of flour and water and a couple teaspoons of salt. If it's too thick, add some water. If it's too thin, add some flour. You really can't mess this up. The consistency should be that of thick glue - but it's not sticky like glue.
4. Create Paper Mache Layers - Dip the newspaper strips into the paste. Remove any extra glue on the newspaper piece by running it through your pinched fingers. Spread the newspaper onto the balloon. Continue this, making the strips go in all different directions, until your balloon is completely covered. Leave a small hole on the end where the balloon is tied so you can remove the balloon and later fill the pinata with candy. Let the first layer dry. Add two or three more layers of paper mache to your balloon. Allow each layer to dry completely before putting on the next layer. Once it is dry, pop the balloon and remove it through the opening.
5. Decorate Pinata - Paint your Smurf Pinata blue and then add the face details. You can add a nose, eyes and ears by creating them out of cardboard and attaching with tape or a hot glue gun. After the paint is dry, you can hang some crepe paper streamers from the bottom. You can wrap strips of crepe paper around your pinata, cutting fringe along the edge. You can also decorate your pinata using squares of tissue paper. Use your imagination and have fun!
6. Fill Pinata with Candies and Treats - Reserve a bowl of candies for the little kids that aren't fast enough to get some when the Pinata is burst open!
7. Hang Pinata - To hang your pinata, poke 4 small holes evenly spaced around the top. Thread a piece of string, yarn, or even fishing line through each hole and tie them together at the top. Cover the holes and secure the string further using pieces of masking tape. Tie a longer piece of string onto these and use it to hang up the pinata.
8. Have Smurfy Fun - Blind-fold a person and let them swat at the Smurf Pinata decoration with a stick until it breaks open and spills out the candy and treats! Stay out of their way and have fun!

Take a look at this collection of Smurf Pinatas - the details are amazing. Did you notice that the "medicine" in the Doctor Smurf's syringe is candy? That must have been quite the Smurf Party!

I'm sure somebody would love to give the Jokey Smurf pinata a real beating just for the sake of venting their feelings toward him.

Brainy Smurf for example?
And Sassette, thanks a smurf for sharing the Smurf piñata pictures! All of them are fun and lovely (even ol' mean Gargy and - at last, well-fed! - Azrael), but my favorites are the first Smurf head, the complete Smurf with the instructions, the mushroom, "fluffy" Papa and the collection in the last pic. Very creative idea of Doctor Smurf's candy syringe, and I enjoyed Greedy Smurf's expression too! ![[yum!]](graemlins/yumyum.gif)
