Just as as interesting aside, the Schliphargons in this story have names similar to those of the Smurfs, only modified to fit their particular language and culture:
Heftargan - Hefty Dablargh - Dabbler Cullivargh - Papa Smurf (Culliford) Vannegkhar - Vanity Trakgharin - Tracker Lazghokar - Lazy Braikegthor - Brainy

Just recently I have watched the episode "Dreamy's Pen Pals" on TV Links, and I was surprised by how much of a difference the actual story was from how I envisioned it the first time I heard about this story from The Ultimate Web Smurf Club website. Despite how it ended with that alien in a flying saucer landing to return a letter that was sent to him (an event which was ignored in Dreamy's and Papa Smurf's recollections in "Where No Smurf Has Gone Before"), the episode was like a weak copy of "The Astro Smurf", basically reprising the use of Dreamy's spaceship and the Smurfs resorting to using what amounted to stage props to simulate the effect of Dreamy returning to the land of the Swoofs, and the silly substory of Gargamel coming after the Smurfs with a primitive-looking metal detector-type device and even going as far as showing up in their village during their simulation of Planet Swoof (that and his previous appearance in "The Astro Smurf" were also ignored in my fanfiction story). Given that my adaptation of "Smurf Plane" which was part of "I Believe I Can Fly" already stated that Handy used parts of Dreamy's spaceship to build his smurfplane, I feel that making any adjustments to Dreamy's and Papa Smurf's recollections of events that took place regarding Dreamy's second visit to the Swoofs in a manner similar to "Dreamy's Pen Pals" would make the whole thing sound rather awkward in my fanfiction story, so I'm just going to leave it that Papa Smurf magically changed not only the Smurfs into Swoofs the second time around, but also that he changed the entire village into the Swoof Village in a manner similar to an Imaginarium fantasy environment (my fanfiction's Smurf Village version of a Star Trek "holodeck"), and that Brainy fumbles the whole thing by changing the Smurfs and the village back to normal a bit too soon.

A rough draft version of the image called "Empath The Party Crasher", from the scene where Empath enters into Dreamy's Swoof Village fantasy environment:

Latest and final version in last post. Note that this picture also includes an orange-colored Swoofette (who only appeared as green in the cartoon version of "The Astro Smurf" and was virtually nonexistent in the original comic book version) as well as a Baby Swoof.

Another new image in the works related to this short story, called "The Unveiling", where Dreamy has a more negative reaction than he did in "Dreamy's Pen Pals" when he realizes that the Swoofs he visited were really Smurfs:

That`s a cool looking pictures. It`s kinda very painful feeling for Dreamy when he realized that all this swoof stuff was just a lie.

Yeah, cool pictures, Vic. These are really cool. I felt bad for Dreamy as well when watching that episode.

I have recently revised what Dreamy and Papa Smurf said in Chapter 1 of "Where No Smurf Has Gone Before" regarding what took place in "Dreamy's Pen Pals" to make it conform closer to what had happened in the episode. First, we have Dreamy's perspective:
quote: "So how did you finally learn that these Swoofs weren't real?" Empath asked.
"About a few years later, Mailer Smurf noticed I have been smurfing messages to the Swoofs, telling them I was hoping to smurf them again," Dreamy explained. "That nosey Smurf showed one of my letters to Papa Smurf. Sometime later Handy had resmurfed my spaceship from scratch, so I smurfed off in it, and again I found myself in the Swoof Village, and I was so happy meeting the Swoofs again. And then smurfthing happened, and the next thing I knew, I was back in the Smurf Village again, and all the Swoofs changed back into Smurfs right before my eyes!" He could feel a tear well up in his eye. "That became the worst day in my entire life! That was when I knew that I never really travelled to the stars!"
And next we have Papa Smurf's perspective:
quote: "Dreamy said that Mailer read one of his letters that he was sending to these Swoofs, hoping to see them again someday," Empath mentioned. "What made you and the other Smurfs decide to try fulfilling Dreamy's fantasy again, Papa Smurf?"
"Mailer has never been the kind of Smurf to smurf into another Smurf's mail, Empath," Papa Smurf answered. "Nevertheless, he was curious as to what to smurf with all those letters Dreamy has written, so he ended up smurfing one open and then showing me one of those letters after he read it. Some other Smurfs noticed that Dreamy was feeling downsmurfed because he hadn't heard back from the Swoofs, so all of us smurfed together and decided to make Dreamy's wish to see the Swoofs again come true. I had Hefty run Dreamy through the forest while Handy rebuilt his smurfship, so that when Dreamy smurfed back to the village, he would be all tired out again when he smurfed off in his smurfship to go back to the planet of the Swoofs. Then I had Brainy cast the spell to turn all the Smurfs into Swoofs and the entire village into the Swoof Village."
"That explains how Dreamy felt when he suddenly appeared among the Swoofs again, Papa Smurf," Empath stated. "But then something happened, and the Swoof Village transformed back into the Smurf Village right before his eyes. How did that happen?"
"You can thank Brainy for that, Empath," Papa Smurf replied with some disgust. "He didn't completely smurf the entire spell that changed us and the village, which was more complicated than the spell that simply smurfed us into Swoofs, so before any of us knew it, everything changed back to normal a bit too soon."

A storyboard of Dreamy's conversation with the Imaginarium-created Grandpa Swoof, made from a series of freeze frames from "The Astro Smurf" with Grandpa Swoof recolored to match his appearance in the original comic book version of the episode:

I really like the second storyboard. I think the story's real interesting so far. Oh, by the way I like your artwork from earlier.

I'm currently finished with a "comic book" sample of the scene from "Where No Smurf Has Gone Before" where Empath goes into Dreamy's Astro Smurf scenario in the Imaginarium and learns about how Dreamy's original space adventure was not real. It's available as a PDF file, but I'm not sure where to post it.
