This is my EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf adaptation of the 1980s cartoon show episode "Smurfette Unmade". Enjoy!

-----

Chapter 1

It was the day of Spook-A-Smurf Eve in the Smurf Village, when Empath's daughter Psycheliana and her adoptive brother Miracle dressed up for the occasion, as did all their fellow and parent Smurfs. All, that is, except for Tapper, who had come for a visit from the Smurfette Village. He looked as if he was going through the villages praying, as if they needed protection from evil spirits during a celebration of Spook-A-Smurf Eve. Right now they were hanging out with the older versions of the Smurflings, who looked like they were old enough for homes of their own instead of sharing the same tree stump playhouse together.
"Sneaky squirrels, Liana, you sure smurfed like me when I was your age," Sassette said.
"Well, you're starting to smurf yourself into one fine Smurfette, Sassy," Snappy said as he leered at Sassette.
"Be careful, Sassy, I think Snappy's smurfing on you," Nat cautioned.
"Yeah, I can certainly smurf that in his eyes, the same way the adult Smurfs once smurfed at Smurfette," Slouchy said.
"Snappy can smurf at me all he wants, but he's never going to have me," Sassette said.
"Never going to have you?" Snappy asked. "Since when did you smurf that I really wanted you for anything...special?"
"You can't hide your eyes from me, Snappy," Sassette said playfully. "I notice the ways that you smurf at me when we're together."
"So we...uh, smurf in very close quarters, so what?" Snappy said.
"I think the two of you should starting dating each other, if that's how you're going to act with each other," Psycheliana suggested.
"Eeewwww, that's gross!" Sassette said, sticking out her tongue. "Liana, that's the last thing that's ever going to smurf on my mind! Smurf out with Snappy? No way!"
"Well, he's got a sense of humor, and he isn't afraid to smurf what's on his mind, Sassy," Miracle offered.
"I know what he's like, Miracle," Sassette said. "He's still not going to have me when all is said and smurfed."
"You're just playing hard to get, Sassy," Nat said.
"Yeah, the harder it is for anyone to smurf you, the better," Slouchy said.
"Anyway, did you know that your Mama Smurf has a dark side about her?" Sassette asked.
"Not until you smurfed me, Aunt Sassy," Psycheliana answered. "Why?"
"Because that evil wizard Gargamel tried to use her again by smurfing her back to her old un-Smurfy self about a year before Empath returned home," Sassette explained.
"I was there when it happened, although I honestly don't remember much because I was a baby," Miracle said.
"But my Mama Smurf isn't like that anymore," Psycheliana said. "She's become a real Smurf after she met the Morphs, where she actually smurfed from."
"I'd still watch out for her, because you don't know whether that dark side has been fully smurfed from her," Snappy said.
"Oh, don't listen to Snappy, he's just trying to smurf one over on you about your Mama Smurf," Nat said.
"He's still mad that he can't have her since Empath married her years ago," Slouchy said.
"I am not mad!" Snappy insisted. "I am just smurfing out for my niece, to make sure she's not being smurfed by anybody!"
"I still see you smurfing at Smurfette like you still want her, Snappy," Sassette said.
Then the Smurfs heard Harmony playing his horn. "Oops, sounds like Grandpa Smurf wants us all to gather around the speaking mushroom for something," Psycheliana said.
"We might as well join the others for whatever announcement he has to make," Miracle said. "We'll talk later, Smurflings!"
"Say hi to your mother for me, Liana," Snappy said as the four of them watched Psycheliana and Miracle depart.
Soon all the Smurfs were gathered in their costumes around Papa Smurf, who was dressed like a high wizard. "My little Smurfs and grand-Smurfs, tonight is the Spook-A-Smurf Eve Festival, and I want you all to enjoy yourselves and be careful, because this is a night of spooky spirits smurfing through our part of the forest," he said. "That will be all."
"HURRAY!!!" all the Smurfs shouted together.
As the festivities commenced, Empath and Smurfette joined Psycheliana and Miracle, wearing their costumes. "So how are you two enjoying your Spook-A-Smurf Eve?" Smurfette asked.
"It's great, Aunt Smurfette, but I wish we could have been smurfed into monsters like that one time that Uncle Brainy sprinkled us with that magic powder from Grandpa Smurf's laboratory," Miracle said.
"I wish I was there on that night, when Mama Smurf found a tree stump that was smurfed to life," Psycheliana said.
"You're not the only one, Liana," Empath said. "Sometimes this smurf wishes to have been part of that history as well, before this smurf came home for good."
"Aunt Sassette said that you had a dark side that smurfed out a year before Papa returned home, Mama," Psycheliana said. "Can you please tell me how that happened?"
"Yeah, please, Aunt Smurfette, tell us!" Miracle pleaded.
Smurfette sighed. "It's not a story that I like to talk about, and a good deal of it comes from Narrator, but anyway here's what happened on a day before your Papa Smurf returned home."

And as Smurfette began her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw in their minds the events that unfolded.
"You see, it all smurfed on the day of the Smurf Day Pageant Play that I was in charge of, Liana," Smurfette explained. "Handy and his work team were busy smurfing on the stage that we were going to use for the play, while Poet was busy smurfing the original draft for the play, which I as its producer smurfed down to about twelve or more pages."
And Psycheliana and Miracle watched as Papa Smurf approached the area where the stage was being built. "My smurf, that's an awfully large stage you're smurfing, Handy," he commented.
"I know, Papa Smurf," Handy responded. "Smurfette wants the biggest one ever for this year's Smurf Day Pageant Play."
"Aye, and what a grand play it's going to be, laddies!" Duncan added. "I hear that Poet has been hard at work smurfing it to be the best one yet, with a little help from Narrator."
"I can't wait to smurf the results of his hard work, Duncan," Papa Smurf said, sounding eager.
Then Poet appeared on the scene, carrying a stack of papers with him. "Here it is, Papa Smurf...my latest epic is complete! I shall call it, A Smurf For All Seasons." Poet announced. "The play follows the life of an average Smurf through spring, summer, fall, and winter."
Papa Smurf looked at the huge stack. "Why, a play of that size could take a whole year to perform, Poet," he said.
"Which is why I consmurfed the whole thing down to a dozen or so pages," Smurfette said as she approached with a completed script.
Poet looked at Smurfette's script in horror. "You consmurfed it?!? Smurfette, how could you? It's smurfen me weeks to smurf the whole thing!"
"Now, now, Poet, you should know that as the producer, Smurfette has the right to smurf the production of the play as she smurfs fit," Papa Smurf admonished.
"I'm sorry, Poet," Smurfette consoled. "I know you must have smurfed really hard to produce the original draft."
Poet fought back a tear. "At least you appreciate my efforts, Smurfette."
Then the Smurflings approached carrying a few small boxes while Sassette carried a clipboard. "Smurfette, look at all the confetti that we have smurfed for the winter snow scene," Sassette said while throwing a handful of it in the air.
Papa Smurf laughed. "Very impressive!"
"Has the flowers been gathered for the spring scene yet, Sassette?" Smurfette asked.
"Let's see...," Sassette said as she looked through her clipboard. A moment passed, and then: "Uh huh. The other Smurfs in the forest should be smurfing them right at this moment, Smurfette."
Smurfette looked in wonder. "Hmmmm, maybe I should go smurf up on the others," she said. "When it comes to flowers, I know exactly what I want."
"Just be careful, lassie, when you smurf out there by yourself," Duncan said as he watched Smurfette head off into the forest.
Then Tapper appeared on the scene with a few glasses of smurfberry juice. "Refreshment for the lads, Papa Smurf?" Tapper offered.
"Why, thank you, Tapper," Papa Smurf responded, as Tapper began to hand over the glasses to his fellow Smurfs.
"So how's the play production smurfing?" Tapper asked.
"Just fine, Tapper," Papa Smurf said. "We might smurf the whole thing done in a few days with Smurfette in charge."
"I can't believe that Smurfette would ever smurf in charge of anything around here, Papa Smurf, but I guess even she needs to smurf her moment of greatness around here," Tapper said.
"Every Smurf has his or her moment to shine, Tapper," Papa Smurf said. "Who knows, I might even think of having her smurf the village in my absence one of these days."
"Some Smurfs like Hefty are not going to like Smurfette being in charge of a village, Papa," Duncan said.
"Well, I'd say we smurf her a chance when she's smurf and ready, Duncan," Handy said. "If she can handle things around here like Hefty can, maybe she would make for a good replacement leader."
"I'll let you know if that will ever be a possibility, my little Smurfs," Papa Smurf said. "For now, let her enjoy what responsibility she has in smurfing charge over a project, and we'll see how it smurfs."
"Aye, Papa Smurf, that we will," Duncan said.

"Meanwhile, your Uncle Hefty was by the river with a group of Smurfs picking flowers, and that's when I smurfed Gargamel, Azrael, and Scruple ready to smurf on them, Liana," Smurfette said.
"I was there with that group of Smurfs helping, by the way," Miracle said.
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw a group of Smurfs by the river singing the Smurf song as they gathered flowers and loaded them up into the cart that was standing out in the open.
"I bet Smurfette is going to love these," Hefty said as he placed his load of flowers in the cart. He heard Baby Smurf babble as he picked a few flowers by himself and handed them to Hefty. "Good job, Baby Smurf! Every little bit helps!" He patted Baby on the head and took the flowers from him.
Meanwhile, hidden out of sight from the Smurfs, Gargamel, Azrael, and Scruple peered through the bushes at their prey. "Notice, my apprentice, that those stupid little Smurfs are cornered by the river," the evil wizard noted. "They have no idea that we have them trapped them with very little place to hide form us."
"I'd be careful if I were you, Gargy," Scruple said. "You shouldn't be counting your Smurfs before they are snatched."
Unnoticed by the three of them, Smurfette saw them as she was approaching from behind. "Oh dear," she moaned, "I've got to do something to protect my fellow Smurfs!" She then looked around and saw a vine on the ground. This gave her an idea.
"When I give the word, Scruple, we attack the Smurfs," Gargamel said quietly, not noticing that Smurfette was at his heels looping and tying a vine around his ankles as well as Scruple's ankles and Azrael's tail.
"Ready when you are," Scruple responded in kind.
Then Gargamel yelled, "ATTACK!" And the three of them emerged from behind the bush, running straight toward the Smurfs.
"GARGAMEL!" the Smurfs cried out in fear, running for their lives.
"This time there is no escape for you!" Gargamel boasted, laughing as he, Azrael, and Scruple continued to chase the Smurfs...until the vine became taut, and the three of them fell on their faces.
Smurfette picked up Baby Smurf as she followed her fellow Smurfs. "Run while we have the chance!" she cried out.
Gargamel, Azrael, and Scruple watched helplessly as Smurfette ran away. "Ooooh, drat that horrible lying little traitor!" Gargamel cursed. "She's helped the Smurfs escape from my clutches yet again!"
"What's so special about Smurfette that you hate her so much, Gargy?" Scruple asked as he struggled to loose himself from the vine that was tied to his ankle.
"She was my daughter, Scruple...a daughter that I created with my evil magic and a handful of blue clay!" Gargamel replied as he struggled to loose himself from the vine as well as Azrael.
"I didn't know that you were a father to one of those Smurfs," Scruple said, sounding confused.
"I created her a few years ago, after my first encounter with those wretched Smurfs," Gargamel explained. "From one of my books I discovered that the Smurfs are a race of male and female beings that reproduce the same way as we humans reproduce, and yet there isn't a single female Smurf among them that they could produce a new generation of those disgusting vermin with. That's when I decided I would hasten their destruction by creating a weapon that would destroy them through the weakest part of their bodies...their little blue hearts. So with a handful of blue clay and some magic spells, I created that very weapon of their destruction...the Smurfette!"
"Did she look the way she does now when you first created her, Gargy?" Scruple asked.
"No!" Gargamel answered. "That was all part of a spell Papa Smurf used to make Smurfette into a real Smurf. Before then, though, she was still under my control up to the point where, according to their historian Narrator Smurf, she tried to flood them out by opening up the dam. She was put on trial, and there she confessed that she worked for me. Papa Smurf took pity on the little tattle-tale and used his magic to make her into a real Smurf. I tried using her again after she was transformed into a real Smurf, but she came to their rescue when she found out she had duped them. And now she's been my enemy ever since."
"Aw, that's too bad, Gargy," Scruple said. "There's got to be a way that you can bring her back to the way she was...when she was still your daughter."
"Bring her back," Gargamel pondered as he thought about it. Then it came to him. "That's it! I do have a spell that I have been waiting to use for the occasion when she would willingly abandon the Smurfs to become my daughter again. I think now is the time that I should prepare it. And once it's complete, it's time to trap us a Smurfette!"
Gargamel laughed at the thought of making Smurfette his daughter again.

Chapter 2

"It's really sad that Gargamel still thinks of you as his daughter, even if you were nothing more than a creation designed to destroy the Smurfs, Mama," Psycheliana said.
"I know, Liana, that's one of the things that I regret, ever being related to that evil wizard," Smurfette said. "Anyway, the Smurfs were safely returned to the village, and progress on the Smurf Day Pageant Play was proceeding smurfily, but now we had a new problem that I had to rectify as the play's producer."
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw the Smurfs that were busy at the construction site of the Pageant Play stage, getting closer to its completion. Meanwhile, Smurfette and Brainy were in a discussion together.
"Smurfette, you must give the audience what it truly smurfs after...a Smurf who will smurf the lead role in your play," Brainy said. "And I for one want to willingly offer myself as the one who will smurf the lead role."
"Oh, Brainy, please...I don't have time to discuss it now!" Smurfette begged.
"But when are you going to smurf the announcement?" Brainy asked. "It's getting closer to the day, and rehearsals have yet to start. You've got to make a decision while we still have time."
"Just leave me alone, okay?" Smurfette said. "I promise you will know soon enough."
"Gee, Smurfette, thanks to Pappy Gargamel, we still need to smurf flowers for the play," Sassette said as she read through her list of things on her clipboard.
"Oh dear...the show can't smurf on without the flowers!" Smurfette moaned. "It smurfs like I'd better take care of that myself!" With that, she headed off into the forest again.
Brainy then turned to Papa Smurf. "Well, if I was in charge of the play, Papa Smurf, we would at least know who would be the Smurf in the lead role by now!" Brainy complained.
Papa Smurf chuckled. "I'm sure we would, Brainy, but I think that for now Smurfette is smurfing a very good job. In fact, once this play is over, we should smurf something to show our appreciation for Smurfette's hard work."
"You know, I think this situation calls for a little relaxation, Brainy," Jokey said, producing a cigar. "Go ahead, I'll light it up for you."
"This doesn't have any smurfnip in it, does it, Jokey?" Brainy asked, looking at it suspiciously.
"No, but it will really blow your mind," Jokey said, producing a lighter.
Brainy put the cigar to his mouth while Jokey lighted it. "You know, this isn't such a bad idea after all..."
Suddenly the cigar blew up in Brainy's face. "Surprise!" Jokey laughed.
Brainy watched as Jokey walked away. "Oooh, that sneaky Jokey Smurf!"

Smurfette was walking through the forest where she saw rows upon rows of beautiful flowers. "Oh, these will look smurfy for the pageant play!" she said. "I must smurf back here with..." And then her nose picked up a scent coming from somewhere, a scent that was tantalizing to Smurfette's nose. "Oh my, what is that fragrance?"
Smurfette followed the scent until she came across a flower with a large pink blossom. "I've never seen a blossom like this before!" she said, sounding excited to have found a new kind of flower. She stood near the blossom and sniffed, only for the blossom to close up in on itself and trap Smurfette inside. "SMURFS! HELP!" she cried out.
Gargamel showed up, laughing as his blossom has captured his prey. "What have we here? It looks like this sweet little snapdragon has captured me a Smurf, and soon it will bring me a whole bouquet of Smurfs!" he said delightfully as he plucked the blossom from the ground and carried it away with him along with Smurfette still trapped inside.
The evil wizard came home to Scruple preparing part of the potion for the spell. He opened up the blossom and gave Smurfette to Scruple to take hold of while he completed the rest of the potion.
"Let me go! Let me go!" Smurfette cried out as she struggled uselessly in Scruple's hands.
"I'm sure you'll feel differently, Smurfette, once I turn you back into what you used to be...my dearest little daughter," Gargamel said as he continued preparations.
"No! You wouldn't!" Smurfette protested.
"Yes, he would!" Scruple retorted. "And once you're back to the way you were, maybe we can become friends."
"I wouldn't ever be friends with you, Scruple!" Smurfette ranted.
Scruple laughed. "We'll see."
"And when I'm finished, you will be mine for all time," Gargamel said, laughing as he poured in the final ingredient. "All that's left to put in is the Pesky Powder." Then he chanted, "The time is right, the spell is set, now give me back my old Smurfette!"
The cauldron glowed as soon as the incantation was finished, and then a glowing white ball emerged, bouncing all around the room until it struck Smurfette, who was still in Scruple's hands. "YEOW!" Scruple said, letting go of Smurfette.
Gargamel looked at Smurfette after the glowing ball had touched her. "Oooh, something's wrong! She still looks the same!" he grumbled.
"Thank Smurfness!" Smurfette as she got up from the floor and started to run for the door.
"Egads! Grab her!" Gargamel ordered. Scruple gave chase to Smurfette, but Smurfette led Scruple into stumbling over a stool that she leaped over in her escape. She went over to an open window and left the hovel through it.
"Drat! I don't understand!" Gargamel complained as he looked at his spell book. "I followed the spell perfectly."
"Maybe there's something you forgot to do, Gargy...like perhaps turn the page!" Scruple said as he got up and turned the page of his master's spellbook.
"You mean there's more?" Gargamel said, sounding surprised. "Curses! That means the spell is incomplete!"
Scruple read from the spell book. "Not according to this book. It says that the full effects of the spell won't take place until the night of the full moon," he read aloud.
"The night of the full moon?" Gargamel said. "Why, that's tonight!"
"So how do we know that the spell has taken full effect, Gargy?" Scruple asked.
"When I first sent Smurfette into the village, I gave her a compact with a magic mirror that would allow her to contact me through mine, my apprentice," Gargamel answered. "She should still have it in her possession after all these years. If she does contact us through it, then I will know for sure that my dearest daughter is back!"
Gargamel laughed at the thought of his daughter's return to being evil, as did Scruple and Azrael.

"Great Ancestors, Mama, that evil Gargamel thought that he had smurfed one over you, that the spell wouldn't smurf its effect until the night of the full moon," Psycheliana said.
"But you did escape from Gargamel, didn't you, Auntie?" Miracle asked.
"Fortunately I did, Miracle, and I told all my fellow Smurfs what had happened when I was captured by Gargamel," Smurfette said. "Of course, at that time I didn't believe that Gargamel's spell would smurf its full effect on me, but I would eventually find out later that night."
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw that she was back in the village, telling her story to her fellow Smurfs as well as Papa Smurf, who seemed relieved that Smurfette had escaped.
"It was horrible, Papa Smurf, horrible!" Smurfette cried out. "I barely escaped through the window!"
"Aye, that evil wizard is up to no good!" Duncan said. "I would surely like to have been there in his hovel, smurfing haggis out of his innards!"
"But thank the Almighty that she has escaped, though I fear what's going to happen to her if Gargamel's evil spell has been successful," Tapper said.
"Papa Smurf, you can resmurf the same spell that you smurfed on Smurfette that smurfed her into a real Smurf now, can't you?" Slouchy asked.
"I'm afraid that the Adam's Rib Spell works only once, Slouchy," Papa Smurf answered. "If that was the case that Gargamel's spell has worked on her, then I'm afraid that we will lose Smurfette forever."
"And she will be evil just like Pappy Gargamel," Sassette realized. "But at least we will still be sisters, since we're smurfed of the same formula."
"You and Smurfette still be sisters?" Snappy said. "Ha! She will betray us to your Pappy Gargamel!"
"Snappy is right, Sassy," Nat said. "Smurfette will become evil just like Gargamel, and she will be his servant forever."
Weepy then burst into tears. "Oh, this is just so sad!" he bawled as he wiped his eyes with his handkerchief.
"Oh, don't cry, Weepy," Smurfette said, trying to console him. "I'm still here, and Gargamel's spell hasn't smurfed its full effect on me...at least not yet."
"Still, I'm going to pray for you, my dear Smurfette, that the Almighty's protective hand shall be upon you to smurf you from all evil," Tapper said.
"I say we forget about what Gargamel tried to smurf on Smurfette and just focus on smurfing the play to fruition, right, laddies?" Duncan said.
"RIGHT!!!" all the Smurfs said together.
Smurfette sighed. "At least I feel glad that my fellow Smurfs are smurfing out for me. Anyway, it's back to work, because the show must go on!"
Papa Smurf and Tapper watched as Smurfette and the other Smurfs walked away together. "What smurfs to be on your mind, my little Tapper?" Papa Smurf asked.
"I just feel in my spirit that things will smurf aught for my dear Smurfette, Papa Smurf," Tapper said sadly.
"We can only hope and pray for the best," Papa Smurf said, trying to sound encouraging. "I too will be asking Mother Nature and Father Time for their providence in this situation, should it be that worse smurfs to worst with Smurfette."
"I can only hope that prayers will be enough," Tapper said, sighing.

That night, as the clouds were moving in the sky, Smurfette was with Tailor and Clumsy, who brought over a rack full of dresses and a box full of hats.
"So here are all the costumes for the play, Smurfette," Tailor said.
"And here are all the wigs and hats," Clumsy said, putting down the box in front of Smurfette.
She reached into the box and pulled out one of the hats. "My smurf, isn't this so darling?" Smurfette said, putting the hat next to her head.
Then suddenly a bit of moonlight shone through the clouds, and Smurfette felt strange...almost as if a dark side of her was about to emerge. She then snickered maliciously, which made Tailor and Clumsy look at her strangely.
"Why, look at these hats!" Smurfette sneered. "They smurf like a bunch of ragweed!" With that, she tossed the hat that she was holding aside.
Tailor and Clumsy watched in shock as Smurfette did that. "Smurfette! How could you do that!" Tailor cried out.
"Oh, me?" Smurfette said, sounding as if she was innocent. "Well, I don't know. It just smurfed out of the blue."
"Gosh, Smurfette, I've never known you to smurf things like that...you know, after you became a real Smurf and all," Clumsy said.
Then Smurfette laughed maliciously again. "So what do you care? This is who I am, and if you don't like it, that's your problem!"
"But I smurfed all day to make that hat that you smurfed aside, Smurfette!" Tailor tried to reason.
"So what?" Smurfette snarled. "We've all been a little busy lately! Why don't you two just smurf out of here and leave me alone?"
"All right, Smurfette, we'll be leaving, okay?" Clumsy said fearfully.
"We'll smurf back here when you're ready to listen," Tailor said as he and Clumsy departed from the house.
"Golly, what do you think has gotten into Smurfette?" Clumsy asked Tailor.
"Smurf me if I know," Tailor replied as the two of them walked away. "It's like she's been smurfed by the light of the full moon."
Meanwhile, Smurfette looked at her door, wondering what she just did. "Oh dear...one moment I was thanking them for their help and the next moment I was smurfing them out the door," she said to herself. "I could only wonder what is wrong with me."
Then the clouds parted, and the light of the full moon shone brightly. At that moment, Smurfette could feel herself changing from her Smurfy self into something else. She saw herself in the mirror and noticed that her blond hair was shrinking and turning black.
"Oh no!" Smurfette cried out. "Gargamel's spell...it's working!"

Papa Smurf in the meantime was working on an experiment when he heard banging on the door. "PAPA SMURF! PAPA SMURF!"
He recognized the voice. "Smurfette! What's wrong?"
"Oh, hurry, Papa Smurf...I'm changing!" Smurfette pleaded.
"I'm coming, Smurfette," Papa Smurf said as he put his experiment on hold and went to answer the door. But by the time Papa Smurf answered the door, he found that there was nobody there.
"Smurfette! Where are you?" Papa Smurf asked as he looked around, trying to look for Smurfette.

Smurfette rushed back to her house and closed the door, but it was too late. Her Smurfy self was now transformed into her old un-Smurfy self with the short frizzy black hair. "It feels good to be back!" she smiled evilly.
"Smurfette, are you there?" she heard Papa Smurf asking as he was knocking on her door.
"Drat! He's going to find out!" Smurfette muttered to herself. She then looked into the box of hats and wigs and found a curly blond wig that she could wear to disguise herself.
"Smurfette, please tell me what's smurfing on," Papa Smurf called as he continued knocking.
Smurfette opened the door, wearing her wig. "Oh, hi, Papa Smurf," she pleasantly greeted.
"Is there a problem, Smurfette?" Papa Smurf asked. "You were at my door a few minutes ago and you said that you were changing."
"I said that?" Smurfette said, making it sound like she forgot. "Oh, the truth is that I was just changing my hairstyle for the occasion of the play. Don't you like it?"
"Well, there's something about you that's different, and I don't know what," Papa Smurf responded. "Anyway, I'm in the middle of an experiment, so unless it's a real emergency, please don't bother me."
"I promise I won't, Papa Smurf," Smurfette said. "I'm sorry to have bothered you."
Papa Smurf sighed. "You go smurf some rest, because it smurfs like you need it. I will see you again in the morning."
"Good night, Papa Smurf," Smurfette said as she watched Papa Smurf leave.
After he was gone, Smurfette took off the wig, put it under her hat, and started looking frantically around the house for something important. And then she found something familiar. "This must be my magic compact! I'll open this and let Gargamel know I'm back!"
Smurfette opened the compact and the mirror's image changed to that of her former master Gargamel. "Smurfette, is that you, my dearest daughter?" Gargamel asked.
"Of course it's me, your daughter, Master Gargamel," Smurfette replied. "Just meet me by the Great Oak out in the forest."
"It's good to have you back, my sweet Smurfette," Gargamel said as his face faded.
Smurfette laughed. "Your 'dearest daughter'. You have no idea who you're dealing with."

Chapter 3

"Eeewww, Mama, you truly were an evil Smurf!" Psycheliana said as she made a face.
"You smurfed it, Liana!" Miracle said, revulsing in kind. "How could you stand smurfing at yourself day after day when you smurfed like that, Auntie?"
"It wasn't easy, but it just smurfed so good being evil that I just didn't care," Smurfette answered. "It was like being under the control of a drug that makes you feel so smurfy inside, not knowing what kind of person it was going to smurf you into being."
"Uncle Tapper says that smurfnip is evil and that no Smurf should ever smurf that plant for anything," Psycheliana said.
"He's entitled to his beliefs, as long as I don't have to smurf by them myself," Miracle said.
"I knew that Tapper was praying for me even when I was smurfed back into my old self, Miracle," Smurfette said. "Anyway, I smurfed out into the forest to meet with my former master Gargamel along with his cat and apprentice, and it wasn't the most happy reunion that I ever smurfed."
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw that Smurfette met with Gargamel, Azrael, and Scruple at the most common place that the Smurfs would meet together out in the forest -- the Great Oak.
"Oh, Smurfette, my dear lovely Smurfette," Gargamel cooed as soon as he saw her. "I can't believe it's you, back to the way when I first created you. This is like a dream come true."
"Well, believe me, I have no love for the Smurfs now," Smurfette said. "They may have raised me to be a Smurf, but I know who and what I truly am...a walking blue nightmare you created that's going to help you destroy the Smurfs!"
Gargamel gasped. "I can't believe it! This truly is my daughter! She's just as wicked as me, maybe even more so!"
"Smurfette more wicked than you, Gargy?" Scruple scoffed. "You think this little pipsqueak is going to be a major threat?"
"Who are you calling 'pipsqueak', red head?" Smurfette snarled, digging her heels into Scruple's foot and causing him to yelp.
"Ah...ah...ah...please, keep her away from me!" Scruple cried out, hopping around on one foot while nursing the other.
Azrael approached Smurfette and tried to paw her. "What are you looking at, fleabag?" Smurfette hissed before she punched Azrael in the nose, causing the cat to recoil in pain.
"Let's test her to see how loyal she truly is, Scruple," Gargamel suggested. Then to Smurfette he asked in the most gentle voice he could muster, "Dearest little Smurfette, can you kindly show your master where the Smurf Village is?"
"Why are you so sweet with me, baldy?" Smurfette said boldly. "I know you enough to be so evil you make me sick!"
Gargamel sighed, realizing that communicating with Smurfette as she was now was becoming difficult. "It's because that I am your father, Smurfette. I created you, and I can un-create you." His voice became more harsh as he spoke. "Underneath it all, you're still just a walking pile of blue clay that I brought to life through evil magic, and if you ever betray me, I will make sure that you will return to that pile of blue clay that you came from!" He smashed his hands together in front of Smurfette's face to drive home his point, which made her wince.
"Okay, okay, I get the point!" Smurfette said, sounding a little offended. "Follow me, and I will show you the way to the Smurf Village."
Gargamel smiled in glee as he watched Smurfette head away. "I can't believe it...Smurfette is going to lead me straight into the Smurf Village!" he boasted.
"I'll believe it when I see it, Gargy," Scruple said as he and his master picked up their nets and followed straight after Smurfette.

The next morning in the Smurf Village, Papa Smurf woke up, got dressed up, and started walking through the village to see what his little Smurfs were up to.
"Ah, another peaceful morning in the vill...," Papa Smurf started to say when he noticed a group of Smurfs gathered around Smurfette's house. Some of the Smurfs were holding various props for the play.
"Rabbling rabbits, there's so much for us to do and so little time to do them in," Sassette said, looking at her clipboard while the other Smurfs grumbled among themselves.
"What's going on, my little Smurfs?" Papa Smurf asked as he joined them in front of Smurfette's house.
"We need to talk to Smurfette, but nobody could find her, Papa Smurf," Handy said while holding onto a flower prop.
"Vanity's inside Smurfette's house looking for any clues of where she went," Century said. "I fear the worst has happened to her."
Soon Vanity emerged from Smurfette's door. "Say, smurf out this smurfy compact that I have found on her dresser," he said, producing the compact Smurfette used to contact Gargamel with. He opened the compact and looked at himself in its mirror. "Oh my, it's even lovelier on the inside. I'm sure Smurfette wouldn't mind if I borrowed it for a little while."
"Ugh, of all the things the peacock has to smurf in Smurfette's house, it has to be her mirror," Duncan said in disgust as he and the other Smurfs watched Vanity walk off with her compact.
"Can you help us find her, Papa Smurf?" Snappy asked.
"Yeah, we can't smurf anything for the play without her," Slouchy added.
"If you wish, my little Smurfs, though I'm sure that she's out for her morning stroll," Papa Smurf said.
Just then Tapper approached them. "Papa Smurf, has anyone seen Smurfette lately?" Tapper asked.
"I'm afraid not, Tapper, though I don't think anything terrible has happened to her lately," Papa Smurf answered. "Why?"
"I just feel in my spirit that Gargamel's evil spell to smurf her back to her old self has smurfed hold of her, and that she may be helping Gargamel find the village," Tapper said.
"Jumping junebugs, why would Smurfette ever do that?" Sassette asked.
"I told you that Smurfette would betray us if she ever resmurfed back to her old self, Sassy," Snappy responded.
"Yeah, she would be even worse than Gargamel," Slouchy added.
"I doubt that the lassie would ever be that unfaithful to her fellow Smurfs, laddies," Duncan said.
"Oh yeah?" Nat said, voicing disbelief. "What makes you think she wouldn't betray us?"
"Because only a real Smurf would know where the village actually is located in the forest, and if the lassie ever smurfed back to her old self, she wouldn't know," Duncan replied.
"Still, I would suggest that we send some Smurfs out into the forest to find her before Gargamel does, Papa Smurf," Tapper said.
Papa Smurf sighed. "Very well, Tapper. You and Duncan can go smurf off into the forest and make sure that Smurfette is safe. And take the Smurflings along with you."
"Aye, Papa Smurf, if you say so," Duncan said.
"May the luck of the Smurfish be with us," Tapper said as he, Duncan, and the Smurflings walked off.

Out in the forest, Gargamel, Azrael, and Scruple continued to follow Smurfette as she led them through it to find the village, though in their travels they were now walking through a patch of thorns.
"Blast these stupid thorns!" Gargamel cursed as carefully stepped his way through them and got pricked.
"It's certainly a long way for us to get to the village, Gargy," Scruple said, experiencing the same difficulty.
"This is ridiculous!" Gargamel said as they made their way out of the patch of thorns. "We've been walking through the forest all night and there's still no sign of the Smurf Village. Are you sure you know where it is, Smurfette?"
"Of course I do, long nose!" Smurfette replied. "I've been through this portion of the forest before. I'm sure of it."
"Let's face it, Gargy, your little creation isn't going to lead us straight to the Smurfs," Scruple said as the four of them slowed to a stop.
"I said I will help you find the Smurfs, and I'm not going to stop until I do!" Smurfette said adamantly.
"QUIET!" Gargamel yelled. "You've been leading us the wrong way the whole time on purpose! You're more loyal to the Smurfs than you realize!"
"Maybe that's not it, Gargy," Scruple tried to reason.
"Well, what else could it be, Scruple?" Gargamel asked.
"Well, maybe she doesn't know because she's no longer a real Smurf," Scruple explained. "When you brought her back to the way she was when you first created her, you took everything that she was about being a real Smurf away from her...and that includes her knowing where the Smurf Village is."
"So only a real Smurf would show me the way?" Gargamel said, realizing what Scruple was saying. "Oooh, what was I thinking? The Smurfette is totally useless to me now!"
"I'll help you get those Smurfs, even if it's the last thing I ever do!" Smurfette boldly stated.
"Well, you two can go find the Smurfs without us, Gargy...I'm through with this wild-goose chase!" Scruple said as he and Azrael walked away.
Gargamel sat down upon a rock and took off one of his shoes to soothe his aching foot. "And to think I have welcomed you back with open arms and that you would be useful to me again, Smurfette," he grumbled.
"I'm still your daughter, and I'm not going to bail on you yet, Master Gargamel," Smurfette said.
Then the two of them could hear Tapper, Duncan, and the Smurflings both crying out, "SMURFETTE!"
"Drat!" Smurfette cursed. "They're going to find out if they see us together like this!" She whipped out her wig, then took Gargamel's net and scooped him inside it while she cried out, "HELP! HELP!"
"Why, you traitorous little...," Gargamel hissed.
"Quiet, wizard!" Smurfette shot back. Then she stomped on Gargamel's other foot, causing him to cry out in pain while she continued to cry, "Oh, please, Smurfs, help me!"
Tapper, Duncan, and the Smurflings arrived at the scene. "Great Smurfiny Crickets, thank the Almighty we have found you!" Tapper cried out.
"What happened here with Gargamel?" Duncan asked.
"Gargamel tried to use me to find the Smurf Village, but I oversmurfed him and got him captured by his own net," Smurfette answered. "Let's smurf out of here!"
"You've got the spirit of a McSmurf within you, lassie, to have smurfed that to that numpty wizard," Duncan said. "Here, let me smurf you a hand!" He then took the wizard by the ankle and spun him around until he collapsed.
"Good show there, Duncan!" Tapper said with approval.
"Let's get smurfing to the village before he awakens," Smurfette said, following Tapper and Duncan as they led her and the Smurflings back to the village.
"I feared the worst has happened to you, my dear Smurfette," Tapper said as they continued to run.
"Nothing has happened to me yet, Tapper, but thanks for being concerned," Smurfette said, feigning sincerity.
"Pappy Gargamel certainly doesn't look happy," Sassette said.
"Yeah, we almost thought that he smurfed you back to your old self, Smurfette," Slouchy said.
"I'm still my smurfy self, Slouchy," Smurfette said, sounding a little impatient. "Why do you ask?"
"Oh, nothing, we were just worried about you, that's all," Nat said.
"It's going to happen, Smurflings, just you wait," Snappy said.

"So I returned safe and smurf to the Smurf Village, but after I returned, I was inundated by questions by my fellow Smurfs about the play I was supposed to be smurfing on," Smurfette told Psycheliana and Miracle.
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw her back in the village among her fellow Smurfs, who seemed to be impatient with Smurfette for some reason.
"When do the rehearsals start?" one Smurf asked. And the other Smurfs also asked her similar questions, which made Smurfette hold her ears to silence out the noise because she couldn't stand to hear it.
"QUIET!!!" she finally yelled.
All the Smurfs suddenly fell quiet, wondering what was going on with Smurfette.
"Now that I've got your attention, what's the problem?" Smurfette asked sweetly.
"Well, Smurfette, you see, we can't begin rehearsals for the play unless you pick the lead actor," Poet explained.
"Well, I'm still available if you're smurfing for the lead actor, Smurfette," Brainy announced.
"Brainy is always available," Snappy told Slouchy, which caused the both of them to snicker.
"Yeah, he doesn't stand a chance," Slouchy said, agreeing with Snappy.
Smurfette felt like she didn't want to deliberate any further on the issue. "Okay, Brainy, you be the star!"
"BRAINY SMURF...THE STAR?!?" the other Smurfs said in unison, sounding surprised.
"Now, now, my fellow Smurfs, you heard the producer," Brainy admonished.
"That's right, so start rehearsing the play," Smurfette said curtly. "I've got other matters to attend to."
The other Smurfs watched as Smurfette walked away. "I wonder what's gotten into Smurfette lately," one Smurf said.
"Yeah, she sure isn't acting like herself," another Smurf said.
"I'm sure that it's nothing we need to worry about, my fellow Smurfs," Brainy said confidently. "As long as she is in charge of the play, we will smurf through this like smurfers and we'll all smurf a wonderful laugh afterward."
"That's certainly strange smurfing from you, Brainy," Snappy said.
"I didn't know Brainy could even smurf his confidence in anyone other than himself or Papa Smurf," Slouchy said.
"I think Smurfette's doing a wonderful job so far, and we should reward her for all her hard work," Sassette said.
"But it's the other Smurfs that are smurfing the hard work for her, Sassy," Nat said.
"All right, my fellow Smurfs, let's smurf this rehearsal from the top," Poet said. "You know your places, so let's make sure we make Smurfette proud of our efforts."
"I'm ready whenever you are, Poet," Brainy said.

Chapter 4

"At least you had the other Smurfs smurfing their weight for you in this play production, Auntie, even if your mind wasn't on it at the time," Miracle said.
"That's because Mama was thinking of helping Gargamel destroy the Smurfs, Miracle," Psycheliana said.
"That's right, Liana," Smurfette said. "And I sure wish that my mind was on the play instead of being on Gargamel, because I wouldn't have smurfed like the biggest fool helping the Smurfs' greatest enemy. Anyway, I had to help Gargamel smurf the village from the inside since I'm no longer good for helping him smurf it from the outside...and that's where I smurfed into a little problem."
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw that she was in her house, turning everything upside down, making a total mess of her living space, looking for her magic compact. "I know that I have left it here somewhere," Smurfette muttered. "It couldn't have just..."
Then she heard knocking on her door. "Smurfette, do you have a minute?" she heard Hefty ask.
Smurfette growled. "I'll be there!" She opened the door and saw that it was Hefty with Clumsy and Vanity. "What do you want?"
"Smurfette, you smurf like you're on edge or something," Vanity said. "Is everything all right with you?"
"Of course I'm all right," Smurfette snapped. "In fact, I haven't smurfed any better than I do now!"
"Gosh, Smurfette, you smurf worse than you do when you smurf your first cup of acorn brew," Clumsy said.
"And why did you smurf up your place, Smurfette?" Vanity asked as he got a look at the inside of her house.
"I...was smurfing for something important, Vanity," Smurfette said hastily. "You know I don't like when I find out that something is missing from my house."
"Well, maybe we can help you find whatever it is you're smurfing for, Smurfette, to smurf your mind at ease," Hefty offered.
"I for one wouldn't mind helping, because this place could sure use a tidying up," Vanity said, opening up a compact to look at himself.
Smurfette saw the object in Vanity's hand. "MY COMPACT! WHAT WERE YOU SMURFING WITH IT, VANITY SMURF?"
"Honestly, Smurfette, I was just borrowing it for a while," Vanity said defensively.
Smurfette snatched the compact out of Vanity's hand. "Next time, don't smurf things that don't belong to you!" she yelled.
"Gee, Smurfette, Vanity probably didn't mean to..." Clumsy began to say.
"GO AWAY!" Smurfette shouted. "AND DON'T SMURF BACK HERE UNTIL YOU APOLOGIZE!" And with that, Smurfette slammed the door shut in front of them.
Just then Papa Smurf showed up. "What's going on, my little Smurfs?" Papa Smurf asked. "I heard Smurfette shouting from her house a minute ago."
"Smurfette's acting really strange, Papa Smurf," Hefty answered.
"And so un-Smurfy at that," Vanity snorted.
"Golly, there must be something wrong with Smurfette that you can fix, Papa Smurf?" Clumsy asked.
"I think it's just the pressure of the play's production that's smurfing to her, my little Smurfs," Papa Smurf said. "We probably need to leave her alone and let her smurf out her own problems in peace."
Hefty sighed. "If that's what you want, Papa Smurf, I'll smurf it for her."
"Poor Smurfette," Vanity said. "I surely don't want to be in her smurfs for anything right now."
"She's going to be okay, isn't she, Papa Smurf?" Clumsy said.
"We'll watch over her to make sure she's smurfing well, Clumsy," Papa Smurf said. "When the whole thing is over, she should be back to her old smurfy self, and we can smurf something to show our appreciation for all her efforts."
"Hang on, Smurfette, we're thinking of you," Hefty said as the four of them walked away.

Smurfette watched through the windows as the four Smurfs walked away from her house. Then she closed the curtains and opened her magic locket. "Gargamel, can you hear me?" she spoke.
The image of her compact's mirror changed to that of Gargamel, who looked like he was soaking his feet in a bucket of hot water. "You little double-crosser! I'm even surprised that you have the nerve to talk to me after what you did to me out in the forest!" he ranted, showing Smurfette his injured foot.
"We've got bigger problems than your foot," Smurfette said angrily. "The Smurfs are getting suspicious, and I can't keep up this ruse any longer."
"There must be a way that you can get me into your village, Smurfette, there must be," Gargamel said.
"Well, you're the great and powerful wizard, father," Smurfette said. "Don't you have a spell or something you can use?"
Then inspiration hit Gargamel. "That's it...we'll use magic!" he said, raising up a finger. "Smurfette, can you get into Papa Smurf's laboratory while he is distracted with other matters?"
"The Smurfs will be attending a play that I have produced," Smurfette responded. "That will be the perfect time for me to get into Papa's laboratory and help you get into the village."
"Excellent!" Gargamel exclaimed. "When the Smurfs are too busy entertaining themselves, that will be the time when we can spring the trap on them. Just make sure you don't fail me!"
"Believe me, Gargamel, it's as good as done!" Smurfette said confidently.

"And so with the play and the stage all ready for that night, I waited for Papa Smurf to show up to smurf in the seats with the other Smurfs so that I could smurf my thing for Gargamel," Smurfette said.
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw the Smurfs all gathered around the stage for the play that was about to start. However, Smurfette felt a little on edge because she was waiting for someone.
"Oooh, where's that Papa Smurf?" she muttered to herself. "He's got to be here by now!"
"Smurfette, what are we waiting for?" Snappy said as the four Smurflings gathered around her. "The show is about to start!"
Smurfette sighed. "I'm just waiting for Papa Smurf to show up. Then we can start the play."
"I'm sure Pappy Smurf is going to be here as soon as he can, Smurfette," Sassette said.
"Yeah, Papa Smurf is hardly the Smurf who would miss such a big event as this," Slouchy said.
"Besides, every Smurf here knows their part in the play so well, they could rehearse it in their sleep," Nat said.
Smurfette peered through the curtains again. "Aha...just as I expected!" she said when she saw Papa Smurf sit down with his little Smurfs in the seats before the stage. She then turned to her fellow Smurfs behind the curtains. "Get ready, Smurfs...it's show time!"
Harmony blew his trumpet while Smurfette ran off the stage. "Presenting A Smurf For All Seasons!" he announced.
The curtains opened and the Smurfs saw Brainy dressed in a toga, standing in front of a forest-filled background on a spring day. "Thank you, thank you!" Brainy said, bowing with appreciation as the Smurfs cheered.
Smurfette smiled evilly as she headed into Papa Smurf's laboratory, knowing that all her fellow Smurfs were distracted by the play. She closed the door and opened her compact. "Gargamel, come in!" Smurfette said, eager to talk.
The compact's mirror image changed to that of Gargamel. "I trust that you are now in Papa Smurf's laboratory and that the village leader and all his little Smurfs are at the play, my dearest daughter," he hinted.
"They're all ready for you to come, Master," Smurfette responded. "Nobody knows that I'm here plotting their capture."
"Then let's keep it that way, until you can bring me all the way to the Smurf Village," Gargamel warned. "The less they know about what we're doing until it's too late, the better."
Back at the stage, Brainy did his best to entertain the Smurfs while a few Smurfs also dressed in togas leaped about behind him, sprinkling flower petals here and there. "Spring, summer, winter, fall, though seasons change, we love them all. We start with spring and blooming flowers, the gentle breeze, the cooling showers." There was a pause that made Brainy feel a little annoyed as he expected something to happen. "I said, the gentle breeze, the cooling showers!"
"Snappy, that's our cue!" Slouchy said, tapping on Snappy's shoulder as he worked the controls for the stage's special effects.
"Here smurfs!" Snappy said, pulling the lever.
Suddenly, Brainy found himself doused with a deluge of water that poured upon him from the top of the stage.
"Snappy, be careful!" Slouchy said as he watched Brainy get hit with the deluge.
"Oops, sorry," Snappy said, snickering just a little.
Meanwhile, in Papa Smurf's laboratory, Smurfette was following Gargamel's formula to the best of her ability, using one of Papa Smurf's cauldrons. "Now add a pinch of thunder root," Gargamel instructed.
Smurfette added the thunder root to the mixture that was in the cauldron. The formula began to spark as if ready to ignite.
"Be careful with that formula...it is very volatile!" Gargamel warned.
"I'm doing the best that I can!" Smurfette snapped. "Besides, the play won't last forever, so we got to hurry!"
"All right, all right!" Gargamel said, realizing that time was of the essence. "Now find me some frog sweat."
And as Smurfette continued with the formula, the play continued on, with Brainy now standing in front of a snow-covered background, dressed in a warm coat, while snow fell behind him. "December brings us many thrills, from smurfy winds to icy chills," Brainy recited.
Meanwhile, the Smurflings were busy controlling the snow and the wind machine from the side of the stage. "Shivering sheep, let's smurf ready for the big finish!" Sassette said as she continued to sprinkle more snow-like confetti.
"And here upon the winter snows, our smurfy play comes to a close!" Brainy recited, before the winds began to pick up, blowing so hard that a wooden tree prop that was standing next to Brainy ended up being blown off its stand right into Brainy, knocking him off the stage.
"Smurflings, cut!" Sassette cried out.
The Smurfs cheered as the curtains closed, signaling the end of the play. Smurfette could hear the Smurfs cheering from inside Papa Smurf's laboratory as he put in the last ingredient for the formula. "Just in time, too," Smurfette said, sighing with relief. "The play's about finished, and I got to get back to the other Smurfs!"
"Excellent!" Gargamel exclaimed. "Just wait for me there, and I will soon show up."
"Whatever you say, Gargamel," Smurfette said as she left the laboratory, allowing the formula to do its work.
Gargamel laughed. "Yes...yes! I can feel it! Soon all the Smurfs will be mine!"

The Smurfs that were part of the play came on the stage to take a bow before their audience as they accepted the applause. "Gosh, Hefty, how did you like the play?" Clumsy asked as he and the other Smurfs stood up to clap.
"Well, Brainy was Brainy, but at least the special effects were great," Hefty answered.
"And here comes the Smurf who's responsible, laddies!" Duncan said as he saw Smurfette approach the stage.
"Congratulations, Smurfette," Papa Smurf said as soon as Smurfette arrived. "Your play was such a smurfy success!"
"Uh, oh, thanks, Papa Smurf," Smurfette said, sounding a bit uncertain. "I honestly don't know what to smurf."
"You don't have to smurf anything to anyone, my dear Smurfette," Tapper said. "Everyone knows that you're the genius behind this play production, and I would like to celebrate this moment with a fresh bottle of wine."
"There's no need to be modest here, Smurfette," Hefty said. "Come on, let's show our appreciation for Smurfette!"
A group of Smurfs picked up Smurfette from the ground and carried her on their shoulders. "HURRAY FOR SMURFETTE!!! HURRAY FOR SMURFETTE!!!" they cried out.
"Great Smurfiny Crickets, what is that wisp of smoke?" Tapper asked as he noticed something in the air.
"Michty me, laddie, it smurfs to be coming from Papa Smurf's laboratory," Duncan said, also noticing.
"My smurfness, there is a smoke coming from my laboratory!" Papa Smurf exclaimed. "I wonder who's been smurfing in my laboratory while we were all busy."
"We were all at the stage during Smurfette's play, Papa Smurf," Slouchy said.
"Maybe not all of us," Nat said.
"Chittering chipmunks, I wonder who could be smurfing this surprise on us behind our backs," Sassette said.
As the smoke got thicker, a wind blew through the village, and Smurfette's wig was blown off her head, revealing her true un-Smurfy self beneath.
"Oh no...it's the un-Smurfy Smurfette!" Papa Smurf exclaimed as soon as he saw her wig blown away.
"I knew that she would betray us, I just knew it!" Snappy said.
Then the thick smoke gathered together into a cloud, and from the cloud a familiar figure emerged with a sack in his hand. "Surprise!" he called out.
"GARGAMEL!!!" the Smurfs cried out as they tried to make a run for it.
Gargamel laughed as he captured the Smurfs one by one. "Yes, yes, run all you want, resist all you want! But you can't hide from me! And you all have Smurfette to thank for this!"
Handy watched as Gargamel wrecked the stage for the play. "My beautiful stage!"
"You'll be making your final performance before me, the great wizard Gargamel, before you all become gold statuettes for my wealth and pleasure," Gargamel said, laughing as he continued to capture Smurfs.
Smurfette watched as more and more of her Smurfs were captured by the evil wizard. "Oh dear...what have I done!" she muttered to herself.
"You won't get away with this, Gargamel!" Papa Smurf shouted.
"Oh, save your breath, Papa Smurf!" Gargamel shot back. "Come, Smurfette, we have all the Smurfs right where we want them."
"I'm right there beside you, Master," Smurfette said as she climbed up onto Gargamel's shoulder and rode upon him as he made his way out of the village.

Chapter 5

"That's terrible, Mama!" Psycheliana cried out. "How could you smurf this to your fellow Smurfs?"
"You must have smurfed regret for your actions back then, Auntie," Miracle said.
"I did, even though I didn't want to admit it within myself, Miracle," Smurfette said. "Anyway, that night Gargamel was preparing the formula that would turn Smurfs into gold, and I was there to make sure the Smurfs didn't try to escape...not that they could escape, since they were all under lock and key in a big cage."
And as Smurfette's story continued, Psycheliana and Miracle saw that the Smurfs were all gathered together in one cage, sitting on a table, waiting for their expected end to come.
"Michty me, lassie, how could you smurf such a thing to your friends and family?" Duncan asked.
"Yeah, I thought that we all mattered to you, Smurfette," Hefty said, sounding greatly displeased.
"I'm sorry, Smurfs, but I was only doing what Gargamel wanted me to do, all because I'm his daughter, and that's what I will forever be," Smurfette said, sounding sad.
"Gee, Pappy Smurf, can't you smurf her back to the way she was before Gargamel changed her back?" Sassette asked.
"I'm sorry, Sassette, but once the Adam's Rib Spell is undone, it can't be done again," Papa Smurf answered. "I'm afraid that Smurfette is lost to us forever."
"I can only pray that this is not the case, Papa Smurf," Tapper said.
Meanwhile, Gargamel was pouring the contents of some test tubes into a cauldron. "Stand back, Scruple," he warned. "These gold-making formulas are highly explosive."
"With you pouring them, Gargy, maybe I should stand way far back!" Scruple said, backing away fearfully.
"Gee, Gargamel, do you have to change all the Smurfs into gold?" Smurfette asked.
"Of course not, my dear Smurfette," Gargamel answered. "I'll be saving the plumpest ones of all for dinner. Right now I need a test subject, and you can be the one who gets to pick which Smurf goes in first."
"It will be my pleasure, Gargamel," Smurfette said as she looked at all her fellow Smurfs and tried to think of which one would be willing to sacrifice his life. And then she looked at Tapper, and he looked into Smurfette's eyes as if he was willing to be the one who would give his life for his fellow Smurfs. This made Smurfette feel so shameful that she turned her eyes away from him. "I'm sorry, Gargamel, I can't pick the right one for you."
Gargamel sounded frustrated. "Well, if you won't pick the Smurf, then I will...and the Smurf I will pick is this little blue babbler in the diapers!" He opened the cage and began to reach in to take Baby Smurf out of Papa Smurf's arms.
"No! You can't do that!" Smurfette protested, feeling her heart being torn out.
"I can and I will!" Gargamel said, laughing. "Say goodbye to Mommy, Baby!"
"NO! I WON'T LET YOU DO IT!!!" Smurfette shouted. She then hopped down from the table and started throwing test tubes at Gargamel's and Scruple's feet, causing them to explode and make the evil wizard, his cat, and his apprentice jump.
"Great Smurfiny Crickets, what's Smurfette doing?" Tapper asked as he watched.
"She's smurfing to our rescue once again, laddie," Duncan said, also watching.
"Sing with me, Master...La, la, la la la la, sing the smurfy song...," Smurfette taunted as she kept throwing test tube after test tube at Gargamel's feet.
"La, la, la la la la, this is so wrong," Gargamel muttered as he continued to jump around.
Finally, with the last test tube broken, Gargamel, Azrael, and Scruple were blown through the roof, flying high in the air until they landed outside the hovel in the muck pond a good distance away.
"Oooh, I hate those Smurfs...and I hate Smurfette!" Gargamel grumbled.
Duncan broke the lock on the gate, freeing the Smurfs from their captivity. "We're free at last!" Duncan shouted.
"Good work, Duncan," Papa Smurf said. "Now let's see what happened to..."
"Pappy Smurf, look...it's Smurfette!" Sassette exclaimed.
Papa Smurf looked and saw a pile of blue clay where Smurfette once stood. "Oh no...Smurfette is gone...forever."
"Oh dear," Vanity gasped as every Smurf gathered around to look.
"I hate losing Smurfette," Grouchy said.
"Please, Smurfette, don't leave us!" Hefty cried out.
"She sacrificed herself to save us, Papa Smurf," Tapper said. "She was a noble Smurfette until the end."
"This can't be the end of Smurfette! It just can't!" Duncan shouted.
Papa Smurf sighed. "Smurfette died as she lived, my little Smurfs. We will always remember her as a true Smurf, no matter how she was created."
"I will never forget you as long as I smurf," Weepy bawled loudly.
The Smurfs held each other's hands and bowed their heads in memory of Smurfette, feeling the sadness together. "O Mother Nature and Father Time," Papa Smurf prayed, "we humble Smurfs beseech you in this dark hour to restore Smurfette unto us, or, if it is her time, that she will be received into the smurfy hereafter. In the names of our Smurf ancestors, we pray this, and so let it be."
"So let it be," most of the Smurfs said together.
Tapper was about to pray when he sensed something. "Papa Smurf...look!"
Everybody looked as the blue pile of clay reformed itself into a new form -- that of the Smurfette that was re-created through the Adam's Rib Spell, blond hair and all.
"Miraculous marigolds, Pappy Smurf, Smurfette's coming back to life again," Sassette said.
"But how is that even possible?" Slouchy asked.
"I believe that a bit of Smurf essence that was left in her made it possible for her to be smurfed back to life again as a real Smurf, Slouchy," Papa Smurf answered.
Smurfette opened her eyes and saw that she was back to her Smurfy self again. "Great Smurfness, I'm me again...the smurfy me!" she exclaimed.
"Welcome back, lassie!" Duncan said, giving her a hug. "I knew that you had the spirit of a McSmurf in you to smurf back to life!"
"Praise the Almighty for a wonderful miracle!" Tapper exulted.
"I'm glad that you're back with us, Smurfette, as the you that I smurfed in love with," Hefty said.
"I'm glad to be back as my true self, Hefty," Smurfette said with heartfelt honesty.
"Oh, I'm so happy I can't stop crying!" Weepy bawled aloud.
"I hate...uh, never mind, I'm not going to smurf it!" Grouchy said.
Smurfette then noticed that most of her fellow Smurfs were now staring at her with wide smiles. "Okay, Smurfs, why are you so happy that...?" she began to say until she looked down on herself and gasped. "Eep...I need some clothes!"
Papa Smurf laughed as he cast a spell that caused a dress, a hat, and a pair of shoes to appear on Smurfette. "I think it's time for us to smurf home, my little Smurfs."

With the Smurfs safely back in the village, Smurfette looked at the wreckage that was left behind by Gargamel. "I'm sorry, my fellow Smurfs, that I have smurfed you all the work of smurfing the play and never once smurfed you how thankful I am toward you all for helping me smurf the play into reality," Smurfette said.
"It's no problem at all, Smurfette," Poet said. "In fact, we liked that you were in charge to make sure we were all smurfing our jobs, and we would like you to someday smurf in charge of the village should Papa Smurf ever need a leader to smurf his place."
"Smurfette running the village?" Hefty scoffed. "Yeah, like that would be the day!"
"I wouldn't mind working for Smurfette if she was in charge, Hefty," Handy said.
"And I would smurf right beside Smurfette as her loyal assistant," Sassette said.
"You see, Smurfette, everybody was worried about you, including me when you weren't yourself," Papa Smurf said. "That's why your fellow Smurfs were willing to smurf all the tasks of the play for you while you were struggling with yourself."
"I'm willing to smurf beside you, lassie, wherever you're willing to smurf us," Duncan said.
"And I will continue to pray for you, that the Almighty will help you smurf in the right direction," Tapper said.
Smurfette could feel a tear forming in her eye. "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you all, my fellow Smurfs. You don't know how much all this means to me. I really appreciate all of you being there for me."
"Now I know what to smurf for our next Smurf Day Pageant Play...A Smurfette For All Seasons," Poet said.
"And for all time," Hefty added. "Right, Smurfs?"
"RIGHT!!!" all the Smurfs said together.

"Wow, that's a great story you've smurfed about yourself, Mama," Psycheliana said when Smurfette's story had ended.
"But what happened to the magic compact that you once owned, Auntie?" Miracle asked.
"I had your Grandpa Smurf eventually destroy it, so that Gargamel could no longer contact me through it, Miracle," Smurfette answered. "Not that I miss talking to him anyway, but I didn't want the bad memories to linger."
"Say, you young Smurfs, who wants to go bobbing for smurfberries?" Greedy called out.
"Sounds like fun," Miracle said. "Well, I'm going to join the other Smurfs in the games. Thanks for the story, Auntie."
"Hey, wait up for me!" Psycheliana called out as she and Miracle headed over to the games.
Empath came over just after the two young Smurfs left. "This smurf sensed that you told Liana and Miracle the story of when Gargamel changed you back to your old un-Smurfy self, Smurfette," Empath said.
"I can't hide who I used to be from my child, Empath," Smurfette said. "She has to know the full truth, and I feel that I owe it to her to tell her the truth no matter how painful it is for me."
"But you lived through the experience, and that has made you a stronger Smurf for it," Empath said. "Why should you feel entirely bad about it?"
"I could only have wished that you were there with me when I smurfed back to my bad self," Smurfette said. "That way I could have had you to smurf back to the way I am now."
"Your fellow Smurfs did a good job smurfing you back to your smurfy self, Smurfette," Empath said. "But now that you have this smurf as your husband, this smurf will always be there for you even if you still have a dark side."
"Would you still love me even if I smurfed back to my old self?" Smurfette asked.
"I would love you no matter who or what you are," Empath said, as the two of them embraced each other and kissed.

NOTES:
* Gargamel continually refers to Smurfette as "my daughter", which is what he calls her in the live-action Smurfs movies.
* The scene where Smurfette reverts back to a pile of blue clay after defeating Gargamel and her also coming back to life was inspired by the events that happened in Smurfs: The Lost Village.
* Smurfette taunting Gargamel into singing the Smurf song is inspired by a similar scene in The Smurfs 2.
