First of all, schlumpfiend, I love your name.
Second, Christine Rook writes "Hey, kids of the '80s: Your little blue buddies are back!" as the first line of her article, so I guess one could take that as a compliment.
Third, USA Today does make use of BlueBuddies.com...a picture, in fact. However, no reference to the the artist (Vic George) or source (BlueBuddies.com) is made. Astonishingly, the "PapaSmurf.org" logo was cropped out of the picture entirely. Excising logos and not providing source references is not sanctioned industry practice - I'm quite surprised by their behavior.
USA Today's version of the picture is titled "08-smurf-inside", and is located here:

The original picture furnished to BlueBuddies.com, created by Vic George, is located here:
http://bluebuddies.com/cgi-bin/db.pl?db|cat.dat|Vic_George_Visual_Works|13|3|cat
The two pictures are from the same source material located on the BlueBuddies.com server, including hidden technical characteristics unique to the original file. I've written a letter to USA asking them to credit the artist and the source...I'll provide their reply if they give one.
