Speaking on the subject of this game, Digital Press Online in one of their archived articles from their print newsletter rated Smurf Racer as among the "50 Worst Games". I didn't think it was really that bad, but Infogrames (now the "new Atari") could have done this game better, even with a sequel or updated version on the PlayStation 2.

I really wanted to love that game.
But it does have flaws. It (at the time) was using a 7 or 8 year old "engine" for the core 3D/racing code - it looked dated. Second, there were actual flaws in the game engine - serious transparency errors if I recall correctly.
Still, I did enjoy playing it a few times...but it seems like Infogrames didn't try at all. I would have much rather seen the unreleased Smurfs Adventure put out, which looked like a much more fun game...
