I wonder if anyone could please give me a link to where I might find the lyrics for the "friendly mickytake" of the Smurfs which went along the lines of: "What were you in Dartmoor for?", "We borrowed a bank from the safe next door", followed by lots of "La's".

A friend has just "outed" himsefl as a smurfite and had never heard of this song, was quite popular in the UK for a time but I've no idea what it was called or where to get it. So I figured if I can just get the lyrics it would be a start.

Many Thanks:

Mark gmt@weirdness.com

Hmmm...that's interesting, considering that I never even heard of anyone doing such a parody (what you would call a "mickeytake") of the Smurfs theme song anywhere, either in the US or abroad. Although I do hold out some hope that Weird Al Yankovic could've put his weird musical spin by tying the Smurfs theme song to an existing pop song, like he married the Beverly Hillbillies theme song to the tune of Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing" or the Brady Bunch theme to "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats. Otherwise, I wouldn't know how this Smurf theme song parody goes because I just haven't heard of it over on my side of the Atlantic!

Just thought I'd add this since we're on the topic of music -- I did some tinkering with Cool Edit 96 and Easy CD Creator, isolating sound bites from the Smurfs theme song off one CD and mixing them into some songs I recorded from other CDs. So far, I just have Papa Smurf saying "Smurf along with me" on George Michael's "Too Funky", with a variation near the end where George goes "Everybody wants a lover like that" and Papa adds, "...along with me!" Right now, I'm trying to do a mix of "The Safety Dance" with much of the Smurf theme sound bites added.

It gets even more bizarre...I've been mixing sound bites from Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, and Gargamel into the digital mix version of "Too Funky". I wish I could convert it so I can share my really weird (and somewhat amusing) result!

Was this a techno/dance song?

If so, I've heard of its existence, but nothing more. A web search may help...

Hi Mark!

The song is called "A Taste Of Aggro" by Barron Knights.

Here are the lyrics for "A Taste of Aggro":

There must be something new to do
The dentist's kengo, and have a little Aggro
'Cause he can take it out on you..
Aaahhhh...
(Open wider please)
Aaahhhhhhhhh....
(And a little wider)
Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh...
(This won't hurt)
AAAAHHHARGhhhhh....
(Much)

[To the tune of "Rivers of Babylon"]
There's a dentist in Birmingham, he fixed my crown
And as I slept, he filled my mouth with iron
He said "Rinse out your mouth, with the medication spit it out
In the receptacle by your side, on the right"
(Gurgle, spit)
No! The RIGHT!
(Gurgle, spit)

No-one would listen to the Smurfs in prison
So they jumped over the wall
But policeman saw them, he chased them,
Caught them, this is what he asked them all:

[To the tune of "The Smurf Theme Song"]
"Where are you all coming from?"
We're from Dartmoor, on the run
"How did you work out your route?"
We followed the arrows on our suit
"What were you in Dartmoor for?"
"We borrowed a safe from the bank next door"
"and why do you all talk this way?"
Cause we're from Catford, ain't we? Eh!
Lalalalalala, lalalalala [Etc.]

[To the tune of "Matchstalk men"]
With big rosettes and colored scarves
They go to cheer their favorite stars
They all look forward to their Saturdays
There's one young lad walks down our street
With Bovver boots upon his feet
And an aerosol can of paint he freely sprays
And he painted Grandad's bike and next door's cats and dogs
He sprayed a couple on the corner of the street, they were having a snog
He fell down on his can, and his aerosol went "bang"
And all they found was a flat cap and his gloves

[To the tune of "The Smurf Theme Song"]
Lalalalalala, lalalalala

[Smile]
