Do you remember your first smurf? Well, I certainly do! My first smurfy memory was when I was a little girl and I played with a small rollerskating Smurfette figurine. She had ponytails and a pretty dress. I would keep her in my pocket and I would take her everywhere I went.

Does anyone have a story to share about their first memories about smurfs- because I would love to hear it!

One of my best Smurf collecting memories was getting a Smurf graphic novel in German called "Schwarzenschlumpfe und Blauschlumpfe" ("Black Smurfs and Blue Smurfs", the original version of "The Purple Smurfs" cartoon episode) as well as a Papa Smurf figurine from my sister when she came home from visiting Germany in 1984. Of course, that was second only to getting the Atari 2600 Smurf videogame as my 15th birthday present sometime earlier, and then later buying it for the ColecoVision.

I remember being given "The Flying Smurf" - although I didn't know his name at the time. I was attracted to the bright, shiny paint, and round cartoon nose on the Smurf...

My main memory is of putting together a Smurf playset that has pieces of "wood" that interconnect with little green "posts" to form a fence. Every night I would set it up on the floor beside my bed, so the little Smurfs would be able to play nearby while I slept.

In the morning, when I woke up, the fence would be mysteriously kicked over. I couldn't figure out what happened.

It wasn't until years later I found out it was my dad - he was worried I would trip and fall on the Smurf toys if I had to get out of bed in a hurry.

At least it wasn't Gargamel!

Another memory I have, like Vic, is of the ColecoVision.

To me, as a child, the ColecoVision was larger than life - I looked at it with awe and respect.

I remember getting the Smurf Rescue cartridge, its bright box and instruction book (remember the "fun of discovery" section in the manual?), and I also remember the fact I couldn't play any level harder than 1.

My Smurf Rescue came from Canada. Coleco Canada released most of their cartridges with an extra sticker you could put on the cartridge, in French. I can't recall if Smurf Rescue came with an alternate French sticker - boy do I wish I would have saved it if it did...
