Not quite finished yet, but I'm putting what I've written so far for you all to read! Hope you like it!
Summary: A heartbreaking message from Marina breaks Handy's heart and he believes he's about to lose the love of his life for good. However, the Smurfs slowly begin to discover that there's more going on than what Handy was told.
Chapter 1
Smurfs do foolish things when they're in love...at least, that's what Papa Smurf usually says. Have you ever been so in love with someone that your time away from them just aches? That's how I felt when I met the love of my life, but obvious reasons kept us apart. Even now, I still wish there was a way we could be together. I know, it's weird being a hopeless romantic, but every Smurf knows that love conquers all, right? That's what I learned recently when I almost lost my love to a tyrant.
My name's Handy Smurf, and this is my story.
____________________________________________
Just outside Smurf Village, the river flowed gently as the afternoon sunlight blanketed the rippling water. Just like everyday, the Smurfs were hard at work with their chores. For a Smurf like Handy, you would think he would be eager to be working, right? Not today, the engineer Smurf hadn't left the river all afternoon, staring longingly out at the glistening water.
Brainy: Handy Smurf, you've been smurfing there for 4 hours, Papa Smurf will worry! Do you really think-
Without saying a word, Handy raised a hand to shush Brainy, he wasn't in the mood for another one of his pointless lectures. Just a few seconds later, a clamshell washed up on the shore. Handy knew exactly what that meant, a message from the love of his life, Marina the Mermaid. Despite them being from different worlds, their love for each other was mutual and seemed to never die.
Brainy: Oh, let me guess, Marina again!
Handy didn't reply, he ignored Brainy and knelt down to pick up the clamshell, prying it open with his bare hands. Just as expected, a small scroll rested inside the shell, no doubt it was from Marina. Even just hearing from her made Handy feel warm and fuzzy on the inside, it was how he knew she was thinking of him.
Brainy: Handy, Handy, Handy, there are way more important things for you to do then just sit around smurfing love letters! Papa Smurf always says never to put off what you can-
Handy: Too bad you don't believe in love, Brainy! You'll know what it's like when you smurf someone special one day!
Brainy: I do know what it's like! For your information, Handy-
Handy: Your books don't count!
Ouch, cutting deep. Brainy took those words to heart and crossed his arms, turning away from the lovesick Smurf.
Brainy: Fine, stay here with your love letter, I'm smurfing something much more useful! Such as rearranging by Quotations of Brainy Smurf books in alphabetical order.
Handy breathed a sigh of relief almost as soon as Brainy was gone. Gosh, why couldn't he ever keep his mouth shut? For such a wordy Smurf, "boundaries" wasn't in his dictionary. Once he was finally alone, Handy unraveled the scroll Marina sent him, he couldn't wait to hear what she had to say this time. However, when Handy skimmed through the scroll, the message wasn't what he had expected, not catching up, not reassuring she was thinking of him, something else entirely. As Handy read the message, he could feel his composure slowly crumbling.
Handy, my dearest
I love you deeply and our love is mutual. But there's something you need to know, my father is setting up an arranged marriage for me. He says we're too different to be together. I'm sending you this gift so you know that I'll always love you no matter what.
Yours truly,
Marina.
When Handy peered into the shell, he couldn't believe what he was seeing, Marina's treasured pearl necklace. In all the time he's known her, she never loaned it to anyone, not even him. Seeing it resting inside the clamshell meant that this was serious, and if that was
the case...
Handy: ...M-Marina...?!
His voice cracked, barely a whisper over the sound of the rushing river. Handy reached into the shell, his blue fingers trembling as they brushed against the cool, smooth pearls. They felt heavy in his hand. Too heavy. It was like holding a piece of her soul that she was forcing herself to say goodbye to. He read the letter again, his eyes blurring. An arranged marriage...The words felt like a physical blow to his chest. Her father, King Aquarius, had always been strict, but Handy never thought he would go this far to keep them apart. Who was he? Who was it that stole Marina from him?
Handy: No...this can't be happening...
He clutched the necklace tightly against his chest, closing his eyes as a wave of pure helplessness washed over him. The news was like a sharp knife right in the heart, but this time, it wasn't coming out.

Chapter 2
Smurfette: Yoo-hoo! Handy Smurf!
3 days...3 agonizing days without hearing tinkering, banging, or any noise coming from the engineer's workshop. No Smurf went in, and no Smurf got out, especially Handy. Poor thing...what caused him to shut out the other Smurfs? He wasn't the kind of Smurf to just dwell, something was wrong.
Smurfette: Handy, please come out! It's been 3 days!
Still no reply, this wasn't like him. The last time Smurfette remembered seeing him, he had returned from the river, but he ran straight to his workshop without saying a word and slammed his door. No one had seen him since.
Hefty: He's still in there? Gosh, what's smurfed into him?
As Handy's best friend, Hefty knew him better than the other Smurfs did. Sure, there were times they didn't get along or would get competitive sometimes, but that didn't mean they didn't have each other's backs. Now, Handy practically lived in his workshop 24/7, every Smurf knew how he was if he got an idea. However, for Hefty, knowing Handy, if he was locking himself away, then he wasn't being stubborn or moody, he was in distress. Hefty started knocking on Handy's door, but there was still no response.
Hefty: Handy! Open up! You're not gonna ignore your best friend, are you?
Still, absolute quiet. This was completely unnatural, even Brainy wouldn't be this quiet. Believe me, they've tried and he wouldn't shut up.
Hefty: Guess he is.
Smurfette peered through Handy's window, hoping to see what was going on in his workshop, but it looked like he had anticipated this kind of thing happening, all his windows were locked on the inside and curtains covered them so none of the Smurfs could even get a peek. Hefty tried knocking on his door again, a little more gently this time.
Hefty: Handy, buddy, if you don't wanna smurf about it, that's fine, just let us know you're okay in there.
Handy: ...Go away!
Well, at least they got an answer, but it wasn't enough. If anything, it just made the two of them more worried.
Smurfette: Hefty, I think Papa Smurf should know.
Hefty: If he's not opening the door for us, Smurfette, he's not opening the door for Papa Smurf either.
Well, that definitely didn't make Smurfette happy, she gave Hefty a sharp glare and put her hands on her hips, unimpressed.
Smurfette: Whether he smurfs the door or not, he needs to know. How are we supposed to help Handy if we don't know what's troubling him?
Hefty: Well...okay, but I'm staying right here!
Smurfette hurried to Papa Smurf's lab to fetch him, but as he promised, Hefty stayed put. Handy was his best friend, and even if he did push him away, he wasn't going anywhere until he knew he was okay.
____________________________________
Smurfette: And Handy won't smurf out of his workshop, he's been in there for 3 days straight!
Papa Smurf seemed heavily invested in one of his spell books as Smurfette explained the situation to him. He knew how his Smurfs were when they were upset, but even this was unlikely, especially for a Smurf like Handy. If any of his Smurfs were locking themselves away, then something was seriously wrong.
Papa Smurf: 3 days?
Smurfette: Yes, he's refused to smurf out, and he's not telling us what's wrong! Oh Papa Smurf, can't you do anything to help him?
Papa Smurf: Unfortunately, Smurfette, I can't, but perhaps I need to smurf a talk with Handy.
Well, Smurfette wasn't sure if that was good news or bad news, it definitely wasn't the news that she was hoping for, but maybe just a talk with Handy would get him to open up, even just a little. She missed him...and surely the other Smurfs did too.
____________________________________
Pretty soon, Handy's workshop started to get crowded as more Smurfs crowded outside his front door. However, Hefty wasn't happy with the situation, he was only still there because he was worried about his best friend. The others were only there because they were being nosy.
Clumsy: Gosh, I wonder what Handy's smurfing in there.
Grouchy: I hate wondering.
Brainy: Clumsy, Clumsy, Clumsy, that's an absosmurfly ridiculous question. If Handy really was smurfing on another invention, he would've at least told us what it is instead of leaving us in suspense.
Hefty: No he wouldn't for starters, Brainy, and even if he was, it wouldn't be this quiet.
For a moment, no one said anything, every Smurf obviously thinking the same thing, what was wrong with Handy?

Chapter 3
Handy set Marina's pearl necklace down on his nightstand after staring at it for an hour. The poor Smurf then sat back down on his bed and covered his face in anguish. How was he going to move on without Marina? Despite the circumstances that kept them apart, she was everything to him. Not to mention...he helped save her father when he was ill, was this his way of repaying him? Had it not been for his and the other Smurfs' help, he probably would've died that same day. Now, Handy wasn't stupid or blinded by love, he knew that he and Marina couldn't be together, with him being a Smurf and her being a mermaid, but that didn't mean he didn't love her.
Papa Smurf: Handy! Handy Smurf!
Handy snapped out of his thoughts when he heard voices outside his workshop...tons of them. Oh no...why were all the Smurfs there? The last thing he wanted was to deal with a bunch of nosy Smurfs.
Handy: Go away!
Papa Smurf: Handy, it's me, Papa Smurf! Every Smurf's worried about you!
Handy: So?
This was gonna be a little harder than he thought. Papa Smurf gently pounded on Handy's door again, hoping to get through to his little Smurf.
Papa Smurf: Handy, at least open the door just for me.
Just him? Well...as long as the other Smurfs weren't being nosy.
Handy: Well...okay, but only you...!
Hearing his voice again was a breath of fresh air for the other Smurfs, but as much of a relief it was, it still didn't answer their question. Papa Smurf turned to the Smurfs who were all still crowded in front of Handy's workshop.
Papa Smurf: Please, my little Smurfs, I need some time alone with Handy. He only asked to speak with me.
Reluctantly, the Smurfs all left as Papa Smurf instructed, but once they did, they all started talking amongst themselves, wondering what could be wrong.
Smurfette: It's not like Handy to be so...distant.
Brainy: Last time I smurfed him, he was daydreaming about Marina.
Marina? That was all they needed to know. If she was tied to this, then that would explain his behavior, and if that was what he was doing...well, jumping to conclusions wasn't the solution.
Hefty: What do you mean daydreaming, Brainy? You were the last Smurf who saw him, what happened?
Brainy: Well, all I know is that he smurfed a message from Marina.
Smurfette: You think she might have something to do with Handy?
Brainy: How should I know? I know just as much as you Smurfs do. What if...what if she doesn't want to see him anymore?
Smurfette was appalled by Brainy's assumption. Marina? Break up with Handy? Absolutely not! What reason did she have to not want to see him anymore?
Smurfette: Oh Brainy, have a heart, Marina loves Handy! She would never do that to him!
Brainy: I'm just being realistic, Smurfette, with her being a mermaid and Handy being a Smurf, it just doesn't add up. Smurfs live on land, mermaids live in water, and after all-
As expected, Brainy was booted out of the village before he could go one with another one of his lectures. He landed right on his head outside of the village.

Brainy: Can I help it if I'm insightful...?

Handy dabbed his tear stained face with a handkerchief as Papa Smurf sat on his bed next to him and placed a hand on the smaller Smurf's shoulder. Judging by his bloodshot eyes and the heavy bags underneath, it looked like he hadn't slept in the last 3 days. Poor Smurf, whatever was bothering him was really taking its toll.
Papa Smurf: Handy, every Smurf's concerned about your wellbeing, at least tell me what's smurfing over you.
Handy: See for yourself, Papa Smurf.
Handy gave Papa Smurf the scroll he received from Marina that day, hardly able to hold back his tears. Papa Smurf read the message thoroughly, but there was something...odd about this message. If what was written was true, why was he only finding out about it now? He had become good friends with King Aquarius, and he had no reason to arrange a marriage for Marina, especially after the Smurfs all helped save his life. Something wasn't right...
Papa Smurf: This doesn't sound like Aquarius, Handy...
Handy: But Papa Smurf, it's right there in black and white! Marina and I love each other, the point is, Aquarius doesn't approve and wants to marry her off to someone else and I don't think she can prevent it!
While that was plausible, it was also very unlikely. Yes, Marina and Handy were too different to be in one world or the other, but at the same time...why would Aquarius marry his daughter off? He would have to have a logical reason to do so, but because this was so sudden, something wasn't adding up.
Papa Smurf: There's something smurfy about this message, Handy...while I understand how upset you are, I think we should smurf King Aquarius a visit. That's the only way we'll know for sure what's happening with Marina.
Handy: Why, Papa Smurf?! It's smurf and clear he wants nothing to do with me!
Papa Smurf: Handy, calm down! Listen to me, Aquarius respects you just as much as you do for him, he wouldn't smurf to something so extreme without our knowledge. The only way we find out is to set sail to Atlantica.
Handy sighed and sat back down on his bed, Papa Smurf was right. Plus, if there really was something going on, it would be worth checking out rather than wallowing. Besides...what if there was something bigger than just an arranged marriage?

Chapter 4
Dreamy: Everything's ready, Papa Smurf!
The Smurfs ready Dreamy's ship to set sail, the S.S Smurf II. It was Dreamy's pride and joy, if the Smurfs needed to travel overseas, the ship was their best friend. But this wasn't a vacation or a tour, this was an urgent meeting. The sooner Handy got the answers he needed, the better.
Papa Smurf: Is every Smurf ready to ship out?
Dreamy: Once Handy finishes the repairs below deck, we'll be ready to set sail.
Hefty: How...many repairs does the ship need, Dreamy?
Dreamy: Not many, Hefty, why?
Hefty turned toward the ship's hatch that led to below the deck. Just having Handy out of his workshop was a miracle on its own, but it wasn't like Handy to move so slow when he was working. Dreamy just asked him to make a few repairs on his ship...that was almost a half hour ago.
Brainy: Handy, if you're finished smurfing the repairs down there, Captain Dreamy would like to get going!
Hefty immediately shoved Brainy away from the ship's hatch and shook his head in disapproval. Now definitely wasn't a good time for Brainy to be...well, Brainy.
Smurfette: Handy? Is everything alright down there?
Nothing. Oh no...was he shutting them out again? It was already too much effort just to get him out of his workshop, they didn't need a repeat of that.
Hefty: I'll be right back.
The stronger Smurf carefully descended below the ship's deck via ladder. Just as he expected, Handy was still there, the engineer Smurf sat leg crossed on the floor, the pearl necklace clasped around his neck, his toolbox mostly untouched. Hefty wasn't sure if he had finished the repairs Dreamy had asked for or not, but maybe it wasn't appropriate to ask right now.
Hefty: Hey, buddy...
Handy looked up for a short second before going right back to staring at the floor without any acknowledgement. The smaller Smurf hugged himself tightly as if trying to keep his composure and not look like a baby in front of his best friend. Hefty sat next to him and started rubbing his back in circles.
Hefty: Hey, listen, I'm sure there's an explanation for what's going on. Look, if you don't wanna talk, that's fine, but we're all here for you, buddy.
Handy nodded, but didn't look up, still continuing to hug himself tightly. Even though he didn't want to talk about it, Hefty still wished he knew what was bothering his best friend. It really tore him up from the inside, knowing that his best friend was hurting and he didn't know how to help him. At the same time, he was his friend, and if he didn't want to talk about it, then that was fine with him.
Hefty: Look, we've been talking, we still don't know what it is, all we know is that it might have something to do with...y'know.
Handy shook his head and got back up, picking up his toolbox and checking for repairs on the ship. That definitely concerned Hefty, Dreamy had asked him to make those repairs over a half hour ago, and he was only starting them now? He didn't want to scold Handy, he knew he was upset, but...now it seemed like he was trying to be too tough.
Hefty: Handy, you don't have to pretend you're okay in front of me, okay? We all know you're not smurfing yourself.
Handy only ignored him as he started reinforcing the boards on the deck. Hefty shook his head in disapproval and crossed his arms. He wanted to help his friend, he really did, but Handy was making it really difficult for him. Can you imagine? Knowing that your friend is hurting and there's barely anything you can do? Hefty didn't want to fix him, that wasn't possible, he just missed his upbeat personality.
Dreamy: Handy? Are you finished down there? Papa Smurf would like for us to get going.
Hefty looked above him and saw Dreamy peering below deck looking a little worried. Oh gosh...should he tell him? No, they were already on a tight schedule.
Hefty: We'll be up in a minute, Dreamy.
Dreamy: Really? Well...okay, just don't take too long.
Hefty turned back to Handy as he continued reinforcing the boards, still ignoring the stronger Smurf's concerns.
Hefty: Handy, look, I'll be with the others if you need me, okay? Just...take your time.
As Hefty climbed back to the deck, Handy finally looked up and watched him go. Oh wow...now he felt a little bad for pushing him away, but at the same time...could you really blame him?
_____________________________________
Clumsy: Gosh, Brainy, isn't this exciting? We get to smurf out to the ocean again!
Clumsy looked out in the ocean, but then noticed Brainy near the ship's bow, his face was a deep green and he was clutching his stomach like a lifeline.
Brainy: It's...smurfy, Clumsy...!
Clumsy: Uh, you alright, Brainy?
Brainy: Let's just say...the ocean's not my best friend...!
Meanwhile, Hefty was pacing back and forth on the ship's dock, his thoughts still on his best friend.
Dreamy: We're making good time, crew, we should be at Marina's grotto soon!
But Hefty wasn't really paying attention to the schedule, he continued pacing on the ship, his hands clasped behind his back.
Smurfette: Worried about Handy?
Hefty snapped out of his thoughts at the sound of Smurfette's voice and turned to face her.
Hefty: H-Hi, Smurfette...yeah, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one, right?
Smurfette looked over at Handy, who was leaning against the ship's mast with his knees against his chest, his fingers slowly tracing patterns on the pearl necklace.
Smurfette: Hefty...I don't know if I should smurf anything in front of him...but do you think Marina has anything to do with this?
Marina...the Smurfs all knew how infatuated Handy was with her, despite the circumstances that kept them apart. That was a possibility, but it wasn't very smurfy to jump to conclusions. And judging by Handy's body language, he still wasn't ready to talk. Plus, Papa Smurf seemed to be the only one that knew what was going on, but not even he would say anything to his little Smurfs.
Hefty: I don't know, he didn't want to talk about it earlier, but I don't wanna push him.
Smurfette: Me neither, he'll tell us when he's ready.
However, what the Smurfs didn't know was that they were being spied on through a crystal ball. Someone was spying on them, determined to get in their way in whatever way possible.
?: So...Marina's lover boy is trying to find her, isn't he? Well, if those Smurfs want to find her, then that's exactly what they'll do. But first, who says we can't have a little...fun with them?
__________________________________
Papa Smurf: We're nearing Marina's grotto, my little Smurfs! Keep a sharp eye out.
Handy perked up a little when he heard Papa Smurf mention Marina, but he didn't move from his spot. If Marina was arranged for marriage...would she even be allowed to see him? Was this trip going to be all for naught? He didn't think it was a good idea to get his hopes up too soon.
Hefty: Hey, Dreamy, I thought you said there would be clear skies today...
When Dreamy looked up from his steering wheel, he spotted what looked like storm clouds heading in their direction. Uh oh...
Dreamy: Great Smurfs, a storm!
Brainy: Yikes!!! Smurf the other way! Smurf the other way!!!
Too late, Dreamy's ship sailed right into the storm...the only way out? Through the storm. The Smurfs got into a panic and freaked out on the ship.
Papa Smurf: Quickly, my little Smurfs! We must protect the ship!
Dreamy: Prepare for harsh weather, crew!
The Smurfs all did as Dreamy instructed, doing various tasks on the ship to ride out the storm. Brainy leaned over the ship's bow, his face becoming green once again and he covered his mouth as he began to feel sick.
Brainy: Can this day smurf any worse...?
As the Smurfs were helping Dreamy protect his ship, Handy suddenly stopped what he was doing and looked out into the ocean, having...heard something.
Handy...Handy...
Was that a voice he heard calling his name? Or was his ears playing tricks on him?
Handy: Marina...?
The engineer Smurf dropped his toolbox and hurried to the ship's port, positioning his hand over his eyes to try and see through the rain. At the same moment, lightning struck the ship and the mast began to break.
Dreamy: Papa Smurf! The mast is breaking!!!
Papa Smurf: What?! Smurfs, look out!
The mast tipped and began to teeter, hanging by a thread. It swung towards the ship's port and broke it, taking Handy by surprise and he screamed in horror as the ship began to rock in the waves, the poor Smurf tumbling right into the rough waters.
Smurfette: Handy!!!
Hefty: Smurf overboard!!!!
The Smurfs all hurried to the port, hoping to find Handy, but due to the storm, it was impossible to spot him.
Handy: Papa Smurf!!! H-Help!!!
Papa Smurf: I can't see him! We must come about!
Dreamy: We can't! Not without a sail!
Oh no...if that were the case, how were they gonna find Handy? If they didn't find him soon, it would be too late.
Smurfette: Oh Handy...!
Just a few feet away, Handy started coughing up water as he clutched a piece of driftwood for dear life, trying to stay afloat, but with how rough the waters were, how long would he last?
Handy: Papa Smurf...!
Another rough wave struck, knocking the poor Smurf out cold and causing him to lose his grip and submerge into the ocean. Oh no...what a way to go...he was sure this was it for him. Well, that is...until a pair of soft green hands grabbed him from under his arms.

Chapter 5
Carrying the unconscious Smurf in her arms, Marina swam to the surface to get him air. The storm seemed to be easing up, but it was still pretty harsh.
Marina: Oh, my poor, dear Handy...you came looking for me...oh, I have to get you back to the Smurfs. It's too dangerous...but please don't come looking for me again, I beg of you.
Marina hugged Handy tightly and pressed a kiss on his wet forehead, but as she began to swim and search for the Smurfs' ship, she had an uninvited guest.
?: So, Marina, this is your land dwelling heartstopper, isn't it?
Marina turned behind her, a merman smirked at her and crossed his arms. Marina shook her head in disappointment and hugged Handy tighter.
Marina: Yes, Urchin, he is. Now please, let me be, I'm just taking him back.
Urchin: Are you backing out of our deal, princess? You should stick to it if you want your father to live.
Marina hated it when Urchin reminded her of their deal, and she knew Handy very well. If he knew about what was happening, he would put himself in even more danger. She was lucky to find him when she did, but next time...she probably wouldn't be around to save him.
Marina: You know very well that I will, Urchin, but please, just let me take him back to his friends, they must be worried sick.
Urchin: Alright, fine, a merman is true to his word, but, let me do something better for you, I'll escort you myself.
Marina didn't like to hear that, she didn't want any of the Smurfs to know about Urchin, especially Handy. The less they knew, the better. Ugh, now she felt awful for sending that message to Handy, he must've been heartbroken when he received it, but she couldn't bear to tell the truth. It was better for him to be let down than in danger for her sake.
Marina: Urchin...
Urchin: I insist, Marina, it's the least I could do for my dear fiancée.
Marina: I can manage-
Urchin: Please, you think I'm stupid enough to leave my promised alone with this blue goblin?
Goblin? Marina wanted to fire back at Urchin for insulting her dear Handy, but she knew what would happen if she challenged him, what happened to her father was a reminder of that. If she pushed, he probably would've stopped her from bringing Handy to safety. Reluctantly, she swam forward, Urchin remaining close behind her.
_________________________________
The storm began to ease up and the ship was still once again, but despite the passing storm, the Smurfs were still beside themselves with worry. The ocean was vast and endless, was Handy okay?
Papa Smurf: Hmm...what a strange coincidence for a storm to hit right when we were close to Atlantica.
Hefty gave Smurfette a hug as she cried on his shoulder, genuinely worried about Handy.
Smurfette: Oh Hefty...Handy could be hurt...or worse!
Hefty: We'll find him, Smurfette, promise!
?: Smurfs!
Dreamy looked over his ship's port and saw Marina waving from the ocean with her free hand. To his surprise, she had Handy in her other arm, but he was out cold.
Dreamy: Smurfs, come quick!
Some of the other Smurfs hurried to the ship's port, and you could imagine how happy, but also shocked they were to see Marina.
Smurfette: Marina!
Papa Smurf: We've been smurfing all over for you!
Hefty: ...Who's the fish breath?
The Smurfs all grew confused when they saw a merman they didn't recognize with Marina. She didn't want to say anything, but at this point, what was the point in hiding anything from them?
Urchin: So you're all her little boyfriend's friends? The name's Urchin, Prince Urchin, beloved fiancé to Marina.
Fiancé?! The Smurfs went absolutely silent when they heard that, that couldn't be...right? Marina had already made it clear in the past that her heart belonged to Handy, and him alone. Unless...
Papa Smurf: Great Smurfs!
Clumsy: Gosh...
Smurfette: Oh shame on you! It's no wonder Handy's absosmurfly crushed!
Hefty: Marina, this guy's pulling our leg, right?!
Based on the look on Marina's face, this didn't sound like a joke, but she also looked...distressed. There was no way she would break Handy's heart this way...was she in trouble?
Smurfette: Handy's absosmurfly devastated because of you! You know very well that he loves Marina too much to let her go!
Urchin: Tough luck, blondie, one can't always get what they want.
Furious at the comment, Smurfette grabbed a bucket and prepared to toss it at the arrogant merman.
Smurfette: Let's see how you like it when you can't smurf what you want!
However, before Smurfette could do something she would regret, Papa Smurf stopped her, placing a hand on her shoulder and shaking his head in disapproval.
Marina: Smurfs, take Handy back to the village. He can't know about Urchin, he might put himself in danger again just for my sake.
Hefty lowered himself toward the ocean via rope and took his best friend in his arms, still out cold. He climbed back onto the ship and set the unconscious Smurf down, propping him up against the ship's damaged mast. Wait...they couldn't tell him about Urchin? They knew about him, why couldn't he...oh...right.
Urchin: Oh, what a pity, it would've been such an honor to see all of you Smurfs at our wedding as honored guests!
Smurfette's face turned crimson red and she reached for the bucket yet again, but was once again stopped by Papa Smurf.
Marina: Urchin, you got what you wanted, leave the poor Smurfs out of this!
Urchin: Oh very well, you Smurfs are no fun. Smell you blue babies later, and please give my dear's little boyfriend all my best and I hope he'll recover from that terrible storm you Smurfs-Ouch!
That was the last straw for Smurfette.
Smurfette: His name is Handy Smurf!!!
Urchin: Whatever...! Come along, Marina, we have much to discuss.
Urchin grabbed hold of Marina's wrist and swam off with her. However, just before they left, the Smurfs caught a quick glimpse of Marina's distressed expression, a silent cry for help. The Smurfs all began talking amongst themselves, trying to process the crazy string of events they just endured.
Hefty: Nice one, Smurfette!
Smurfette: He deserved it, he's an unsmurfy scoundrel!
Papa Smurf: Smurfette, that wasn't a very smurfy thing you just did.
Smurfette: Oh, I know, Papa Smurf, but you saw how he was smurfing, he was really testing my patience!
Hefty: Personally, I liked what she smurfed, Papa Smurf.
Jokey: Yeah, me too, even I couldn't pull off something like that!
But as all the Smurfs continued mingling, something Urchin said began to really bother Papa Smurf...how did Urchin know about the storm? Most importantly, it was too big of a coincidence for the storm to hit so close to Atlantica, almost like...a perfect crime of some sort.
Brainy: Papa Smurf, we never heard about this Urchin until now! It's like he smurfed out of nowhere!
The others all turned to Papa Smurf as he pondered the situation. Something strange was going on, and something was telling him that Urchin was nothing but trouble.
Papa Smurf: My little Smurfs, I think Urchin might have something to do with the storm we just smurfed.
Dreamy: You think he somehow made it happen?
Papa Smurf: I'm not sure, Dreamy, but we'll smurf it out back at the village. For now, we must do as Marina instructed and take Handy home.
Hefty turned to his best friend, still very much unconscious. Yikes, the heavy storm must've really knocked him out good, but that wasn't even his biggest concern. They came out here to find Marina, right? They found her...but he didn't get to see her, it really was a rotten string of luck. And she was asking the Smurfs to not tell him about Urchin...how long did they expect to keep that secret?
Brainy: This is absosmurfly insane! How can we keep it a secret that Marina's engaged to another merperson?!
Clumsy: Uh, Brainy?
Brainy turned to Clumsy when the innocent little Smurf tapped him on the shoulder.
Brainy: What, Clumsy?
Clumsy: What's a fiancé?

Chapter 6
Back at the village, the Smurfs all began talking amongst themselves, still in complete shock at what happened out at sea. It was a lot for them to process with the storm, Handy going overboard, finding Marina again, and her being with an arrogant merman they never met until that point.
Jokey: So let me get this straight, that Urchin fellow is marrying Marina?! And she doesn't want to marry him?! This isn't funny! Not funny at all!
Smurfette: That's what he said...oh, poor Handy...
Hefty: But we can't just sit here and smurf nothing, didn't you Smurfs see her? She looked like she was in trouble!
Grouchy: I hate trouble!
Clumsy: Uh, she was? Golly, I thought weddings were always exciting.
Smurfette: I don't think this is a wedding she wants, Clumsy.
Hefty: She clearly doesn't, I say we go back out there and smurf him! That's my best friend he's picking on!
Jokey: Good idea, Hefty, I'll bet we can smurf him a surprise he'll never forget!
Brainy: Jokey, Jokey, Jokey, you've gotta be out of your smurf! There's no way one of your silly surprises will ever work on Urchin!
Jokey snuck up behind Brainy and untied the ribbon on one of his surprises, making it explode. Brainy stood in place, silent and covered in soot while Jokey burst into laughter.
Jokey: It always worked on you, Brainy!
Brainy: Now see here, Jokey-
Papa Smurf: My little Smurfs, settle down, please!
The Smurfs all went quiet at the sound of Papa Smurf's voice, who had just come outside after hearing them talking.
Papa Smurf: I know you're all concerned for Handy's sake, but getting upset isn't going to help us figure out what's going on.
Grouchy: I hate getting upset!
Hefty: But Papa Smurf, it's like you said, this Urchin is bad news!
Smurfette: Marina looked like she needed help!
Papa Smurf: You may be right, Smurfette, I don't trust him, but I can't smurf my finger on what he may be smurfing...
The Smurfs all turned to each other before turning back to their leader, clearly thinking the same thing.
Brainy: Papa Smurf, sooner or later, Handy will have to know the truth! He doesn't see Marina much now, but he's gonna suspect we're hiding something!
Hefty: Brainy's right, for once, Papa Smurf.
Papa Smurf sighed, he knew that Brainy had a point. Marina had instructed the Smurfs to take Handy home, but also to not say anything about Urchin, worried about his safety. They knew she was acting out of love and concern for her sweetheart, but you can only keep a secret for so long until it finally comes out...and what would Handy do if he did find out?
Smurfette: Papa Smurf, how are we gonna explain to Handy why he can't see Marina?
Papa Smurf: That's what I'm worried about, Smurfette, he may try something dangerous if he knew the truth.
Dreamy: Well, all we know is that Urchin is marrying Marina, and since we're all smurfing on the same page, she may be being forced to marry him. But Papa Smurf, what of her father, King Aquarius? What does he have to say about all this?
Wait a minute...King Aquarius?! Oh no, they should've at least asked Marina. The message she sent to Handy said that her father was forcing an arranged marriage for her, but from the way Urchin was behaving, it sounded like he was the one arranging it, not Aquarius...was he okay? It was really strange that they didn't see him, something wasn't adding up and they needed to find out what it was.
Papa Smurf: Come with me, my little Smurfs, we have a lot to discuss.
The Smurfs were all confused, but regardless, they followed Papa Smurf back to his lab. Hopefully they would be able to get answers, but again, you could never be too sure.

Handy...Handy...
Handy swam through the ocean's reef, searching desperately for his long lost love. But all he could hear was her voice, and it was coming from all directions.
Marina: Handy...please...
Handy: Marina?! I'm here! Where are you?!
Marina: Handy...go home...
Why was Marina telling him to go home while he was searching for her? This was unusual, even for her. She always looked forward to seeing him, always. Handy continued swimming through the reef, clearly not going anywhere until he found her.
Handy: Marina, please, I need to see you!
The search seemed futile, until Handy spotted a figure in the near distance, it looked like Marina...with her back turned. Wait a minute...it was her!
Handy: Marina!
Handy swam as fast as his small feet could carry him towards Marina, but when he finally reached where she was, he was shocked to find a coral pillar in her place instead. It was almost as if she was never there to begin with...or perhaps she swam away before he could catch up to her. He started swimming backwards in confusion, his back hitting a trench and he plopped down onto a sea plant, looking around the area anxiously.

Marina: Please, Handy...for your sake and mine...go home.
There it was again! Her voice, but not her! Handy looked around frantically, desperate to find her, the area slowly becoming darker and darker.
Handy: Marina...?!
Marina: Don't try to find me, Handy...you'll get hurt...it's not worth putting yourself in danger...
Handy: But Marina...!
Marina: Please, Handy...do this for me...
Handy suddenly froze in place when he felt a cold hand on his shoulder. He barely had time to react before a silhouette of a merperson shoved him and he fell through a submarine canyon, screaming in horror.

Handy: Marina!!!
The engineer Smurf jolted awake in his bed, drenched in sweat and panting heavily. Wait...why was he in his bed? The last thing he remembered was being out at sea looking for Marina...did they ever find her? How long had it been since then? Did she even know they were looking for her?
Handy: What a horrible nightmare...
Handy got down from his bed and looked out his window, everything in the village seemed normal...a little too normal. Handy didn't know why, but something deep inside him was telling him that something was seriously wrong. He really wanted to see Marina...he wasn't sure if he already did or not, but he had a very strong urge to try and find her. He looked around his workshop, then towards the corner where he kept one of his most prized inventions under an unveiling cloth.

Smurfette: Papa Smurf, you think King Aquarius might be in some sort of danger?
The Smurfs all crowded together in Papa Smurf's lab as he explained to them what could be going on. He didn't have all the answers, but that was his best guess, and possibly the only logical explanation.
Papa Smurf: It seems like it, Smurfette, Urchin sounded as if he was smurfing the arrangement himself. If Marina is in danger, then perhaps King Aquarius may be too.
The Smurfs all turned to each other and started talking amongst themselves, pondering on Papa Smurf's words. He had a pretty solid point, if Urchin was as bad as they suspected, then both Marina and her father could be in serious trouble.
Smurfette: And Handy if he ever finds out, Papa Smurf.
Hefty: Speaking of which, we should smurf on him. With any luck, he should be awake by now.
A few of the Smurfs left Papa Smurf's lab and made their way to Handy's workshop. It was still quiet, he was likely still out cold. Hefty knocked on his door very carefully, trying not to startle his friend.
Hefty: Hey, Handy, it's me! We're all here, you okay in there?
No reply, just as they feared.
Smurfette: Maybe he hasn't woken up yet, Hefty.
Lazy: Handy's got the right idea...
Hefty glared at Lazy, who seemed to be dozing off in the grass as usual. Ugh...how could he sleep at a time like this? Oh yeah...he was Lazy, of course.
Hefty: Now's not a good time for one of your 20 afternoon naps, Lazy!
Lazy opened his eyes for a brief moment before going back to sleep, curling up in a fetal position in the soft grass.
Lazy: I have 7 afternoon naps, Hefty...
Hefty shook his in disappointment and tried knocking on Handy's door again. Once again, absolute quiet, no response...maybe a little too quiet.
Dreamy: Handy...?
Dreamy stepped forward and carefully opened Handy's door, which was oddly still unlocked. However, the Smurfs all froze when Dreamy suddenly gasped from inside Handy's workshop.
Smurfette: What's wrong, Dreamy?!
Dreamy: C-Come smurf for yourself...!
The Smurfs all hurried inside Handy's workshop to find what shocked Dreamy. To their surprise, Handy was gone...and so was his Smurfmarine.
