Happy 45th Anniversary to Hanna-Barbera's The Smurfs!!!
A couple of fun facts about the show:
Did you know? Before it aired in 1981, NBC made plans to stop Saturday morning cartoons and be a full time news channel because ratings were plummeting, but when the show premiered, the ratings skyrocketed and NBC cancelled their plans and continued the cartoons.
It was also the longest Saturday morning cartoon, spanning 9 seasons before its cancellation in 1989, when season 9 stripped away the village setting and put 17 of the 100 Smurfs in constant time travel to different historic periods. This setup became infamous and viewers quickly lost interest, which led to the show being cancelled without a clear ending.
The cartoon was also how the world was introduced to The Smurfs. Before its release, they were only known through Peyo's comic books in Belgium, France, and a few small countries in Europe. The Hanna-Barbera cartoon became a global phenomenon and introduced kids all over the world to the franchise.

Agreed, Jason. But whether people will actually do that is a question of the ages.
