Fans of chaotic multiplayer party games are in for a smurf-tastic surprise! SEGA has announced a major update for Sonic Rumble, introducing a limited-time crossover event with The Smurfs, along with a brand-new game mode and expanded reward systems.
The update launches on March 16, 2026, the same day the game officially rebrands to Sonic Rumble Party, reflecting its evolving party-focused gameplay experience across iOS, Android, Google Play Games, and Steam.
Players can expect a mix of crossover cosmetics, new stages, improved progression systems, and a fast-paced new mode designed for quick bursts of multiplayer fun.
SEGA's multiplayer party game Sonic Rumble Party’s limited-time Smurfs Event runs from March 16 until April 15. During the event, exclusive crossover items can be earned with the Event Pass or through the Red Star Ring Shop. Players can join battles as one of the Smurfs and dodge, leap and dash through a special stage based on Smurf Village!
The Smurfs Crossover Event DLC is available on iOS, Android, Google Play Games, and Steam.

The Smurfs Crossover Event Brings Blue Mischief to Sonic Rumble
The limited-time Smurfs Crossover Event will run from:
March 16, 2026 (4:00 PM) – April 15, 2026 (3:00 PM) UTC+8
During the event, players can unlock exclusive crossover content inspired by The Smurfs, the beloved franchise created by Peyo.
Event highlights include:
Playable Smurf-themed character cosmetics
Exclusive crossover items available via the Event Pass or in-game shop
A special Smurfs crossover stage designed specifically for the event
Players will even be able to jump into matches as one of the Smurfs, racing through themed environments in the game’s signature obstacle-filled competitions.
Sonic Rumble Becomes Sonic Rumble Party
To mark the arrival of the new content update, Sonic Rumble will officially be renamed Sonic Rumble Party.
The name change highlights the game’s focus on fast-paced party-style multiplayer gameplay, where players compete in chaotic obstacle courses and minigames inspired by the world of Sonic the Hedgehog.
New Party Rumble Mode Introduces Quick Minigame Matches
One of the biggest additions in the update is Party Rumble, a brand-new single-round multiplayer mode.
Unlike longer match formats, Party Rumble is designed for quick and accessible gameplay sessions, making it perfect for players looking for a short burst of fun.
Key features of Party Rumble include:
8-player matches
Quick minigame challenges
Over 30 Party Rumble stages available at launch
For players seeking a more competitive experience, existing modes like Ring Survival, Squad Battles, and Co-op Battle remain available.
New Toy Capsule Feature Expands Rewards
Another major feature introduced in the update is the Toy Capsule system, which offers a new way for players to earn in-game rewards.
As players participate in battles, they can obtain capsules containing valuable items such as:
Skin Fragments
Puzzle Pieces
Various collectible rewards
Players can upgrade Toy Capsules to increase the chances of obtaining higher-quality items.
Collecting a complete set of Puzzle Pieces also unlocks rewards such as Red Star Rings and other prizes, adding another progression layer to the game.
Improved Rewards and Quality-of-Life Changes
The March update also introduces several improvements designed to make Sonic Rumble Party more rewarding and player-friendly.
New improvements include:
Red Star Rings added to the Season Pass rewards
Free Crane attempts increased from 1 to 4 per day
Enhanced usability for the Friends feature
These updates aim to improve the overall player experience while encouraging more cooperative gameplay.
A Party Battle in Dr. Eggman’s Toy World
Originally released on November 5, 2025, Sonic Rumble drops players into a chaotic toy world created by Doctor Eggman, where toy versions of iconic Sonic characters compete in obstacle-filled party battles.
Players can unlock and play as fan favorites including:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Miles
Knuckles the Echidna
Shadow the Hedgehog
Matches take place across over 100 stages, many inspired by iconic Sonic locations such as Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone.
With crossplay support between PC and mobile, players around the world can compete in real-time multiplayer battles regardless of platform.

The Smurfs are officially joining Sonic Rumble Party (formally Sonic Rumble) in a crossover event starting March 16, 2026. This collaboration follows a major title update that renamed the game and introduced several Smurf-themed features. Unlockable characters include, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Blossom, and Wild Smurf with players having to dash through a dedicated Smurf Village stage while dodging attacks from Azrael, Gargamel's cat.
