This is a new EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf fanfic story that I'm writing. Enjoy! ----- Chapter 1
It was on a sunny day in the Smurf Village that Empath made his rounds through the Smurf Village, seeing all that is going on within its borders. He saw Handy and Miner working on an irrigation device in Farmer's fields to make sure that his crops were well-watered. He saw Hefty training a few Smurfs on how to keep their bodies in shape. He saw Painter working on a painting, Poet working on a poem, and Scribbler working on what he called animation, which he showed Empath a sample of by flipping pages full of similar pictures, producing the illusion of motion. He saw Duncan McSmurf working with Tapper in bringing kegs of sarsaparilla ale into the tavern so that the village bartender could be fully stocked for his customers. He saw Smurfette with Baby Smurf and Vanity minding the flower gardens in the village. So far everybody seemed to be working peacefully, minding their own business as they kept their minds focused on their jobs.
Then Polaris Psyche came along to report as the village's security chief. "So far everything's functioning at peak performance without any problems from this one's fellow Smurfs, Empath," Polaris said.
"Surprisingly, this smurf doesn't see Dreamy or Tracker among the Smurfs in the village today," Empath said. "This smurf knows that Tracker is busy with the animals out in the forest, but that doesn't explain Dreamy's absence from the village."
"Could he be out visiting somebody in the forest that we don't know about, Empath?" Polaris asked.
"It's possible, Polaris," Empath answered. "Dreamy hasn't been known to be very sociable around his fellow Smurfs. This smurf senses that he is one of the few Smurfs that have a divergent brain."
"A divergent brain?" Polaris asked, curious to know what that meant.
"It's one of those kind of brains that Smurfs have that pick up on sensory input very differently from those of other Smurfs, Polaris," Empath explained. "Tracker is born with one of those kind of brains himself."
"But Tracker doesn't seem to have any problem interacting with his fellow Smurfs, Empath," Polaris said. "Why is Dreamy so different in his lack of interaction with his fellow Smurfs?"
"Not all Smurfs feel comfortable in the presence of other Smurfs, Polaris," Empath said. "One time Dreamy felt like he needed to explore the world to find himself and where he would actually fit in among others, and he had set out one day to journey through the world despite Papa Smurf and his fellow Smurfs trying to dissuade him from going."
"This one senses that Dreamy didn't go very far in his journey away from the Smurf Forest, Empath," Polaris said.
"Unfortunately he didn't," Empath said. "On his journey Dreamy was sailing down the Smurf River on a log when he was captured by Gargamel. The evil wizard took Dreamy home with him to his hovel and sifted through that Smurf's belongings until he came across a magic whistle given to him by Papa Smurf that would instantly take him home if he blew it. Dreamy warned the wizard not to blow the whistle, but Gargamel blew it and instantly found himself in the Smurf Village, where he was stopped by Papa Smurf giving him a potion that would temporarily make him nice."
"So how did Dreamy escape being in Gargamel's hovel?" Polaris asked.
"Dreamy didn't escape, but he kept himself from being eaten by Azrael, who chased him around the hovel and had him cornered until Gargamel appeared and shooed him away," Empath answered. "However, the potion that made Gargamel nice wore off at that point and the evil wizard captured all the Smurfs and shoved them inside a chest, which he locked up until he got his cauldron ready for preparing a Smurf stew. Fortunately Vanity kept the magic whistle on hand and gave it to Papa Smurf, who then had all the Smurfs grab hands together while he blew the magic whistle and they all disappeared from the hovel and returned to the village."
"Did Dreamy desire leaving the village again to go on his journey?" Polaris asked.
"No, but he did have a birthday wish of traveling the stars, which was fulfilled in a manner of speaking by Papa Smurf disguising himself and his little Smurfs into cavemen-type aliens called the Swoofs," Empath answered.
"So where would Dreamy go to now, if he isn't going to be traveling through the world to find himself?" Polaris asked.
Empath scratched his head thinking. "This smurf honestly doesn't know, Polaris, but this smurf is sure he won't go beyond the borders of the Smurf Forest to find others who are like himself in some way."
Just then Papa Smurf came along with Brainy and Clumsy. "So how's things smurfing around in the village, Empath and Polaris?" Papa Smurf asked.
"Things are going along smoothly, Papa Smurf," Empath answered. "We're just wondering where Dreamy is today."
"Gosh, you don't suppose he's smurfing around with Laconia?" Clumsy asked.
"Laconia! How could you know that Dreamy is smurfing around with a married woodelf, and a mute woodelf at that?" Brainy asked, sounding surprised.
"Well, don't you know, Brainy?" Clumsy said. "They're both of what you call dives!"
"This one is surprised that Clumsy would know what a 'divergent brain' is, given his lack of studiousness in things pertaining to life, Empath," Polaris said.
"Hey, I just know, okay?" Clumsy said, sounding a bit defensive.
"Just because Clumsy isn't smart like of the rest of us doesn't make him totally stupid, my little Smurfs," Papa Smurf said. "It just may be that he has intelligence in certain smurfs that we don't fully smurf about."
"You think Clumsy can actually be an intelligent Smurf like me, Papa Smurf?" Brainy asked, sounding offended at the idea.
"You would be surprised at what Clumsy can smurf, if you'd actually smurf him a chance to prove himsmurf, Brainy," Papa Smurf answered.
"This smurf agrees, Papa Smurf," Empath said. "We should let Clumsy prove how he knows that Dreamy and Laconia are what you call 'dives'."
"There isn't any special way that I know, my fellow Smurfs...I just know, because I'm one of them," Clumsy said.
"You, a divergent mind?!?" Papa Smurf and Brainy said together.
"Ask Empath, then, he should know whether I'm lying or not!" Clumsy said defensively.
"This smurf senses that Clumsy is telling the truth," Empath said. "This smurf has known that Clumsy indeed has a divergent mind, only he has sworn me to secrecy to not let this thing be known to all the Smurfs."
"But Clumsy, why did you smurf so long to smurf to us that you're a divergent?" Brainy asked.
"Because...I didn't want to be smurfed like an outcast in front of my fellow Smurfs, although admittedly I do feel like an outcast," Clumsy answered. "In all honesty, Brainy, I smurf so comfortable around you because I love you."
"It's a brave thing for you to admit, given that this one has sensed some timidity in you about something that makes you feel so uncomfortable about yourself," Polaris said.
"But now that you know, please don't smurf everyone else about me, because I don't want the whole village to know that about me, okay, you guys?" Clumsy asked.
"We promise that your secret is smurf with us, Clumsy," Papa Smurf answered, smiling.
"Since Dreamy isn't in the village, would you mind sending us into the forest just to check up on him and make sure he isn't in any danger, Papa Smurf?" Empath asked.
"I'm sure that I can smurf you and Polaris some time in the forest, Empath," Papa Smurf answered. "Brainy and Hefty can be left smurfing in charge of things while I'm busy."
"Can I smurf along with Empath and Polaris, Papa Smurf? Please?" Clumsy asked, begging.
Papa Smurf sighed. "As long as you promise to leave Dreamy alone with whatever he's smurfing with Laconia, Clumsy."
"Yes, Papa Smurf, I promise!" Clumsy said eagerly.
"I can't believe I smurfed my entire life to a divergent mind all along, Papa Smurf," Brainy said as he and Papa Smurf watched Clumsy follow Empath and Polaris into the forest.
"Life is always full of surprises, Brainy," Papa Smurf said. "Otherwise, things would smurf boring pretty fast. Just make sure you treat Clumsy the same way you've always treated him in the past. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Papa Smurf, I understand completely," Brainy said, sighing with resignation.
-----
As Empath, Polaris, and Clumsy walked into the forest, Polaris decided to ask Clumsy a personal question. "How long have you known yourself to be a 'divergent mind', Clumsy, if you don't mind answering?"
"Uh, I knew since the day I was born, Polaris," Clumsy answered. "Every Smurf treated me differently, except for Brainy, who smurfed to have pity of me because I was different from the other Smurfs."
"But you knew that Dreamy and Trackers are also divergents, and yet you never mentioned that until today," Empath said.
"Well, it's just that smurfing I have when it smurfs to dives like me, Empath," Clumsy said. "They say that no two dives are exactly alike, so one dive is going to smurf differently from another."
"This sounds like this divergent condition is a spectrum-type condition, Clumsy," Polaris said.
"I honestly don't know what a spectrum is, Polaris," Clumsy said. "I just know that I'm different from even other dives, and yet I know them apart what they call the typicals."
"This smurf will take no offense at what you're trying to say, Clumsy," Empath said. "This smurf understands what it's like to be different from the other Smurfs, since this smurf is a telepath."
"You're not saying that being a divergent is anything like being a telepath, are you, Empath?" Polaris asked.
"This smurf is just saying that this smurf knows what it's like to be different, not that being a divergent is anything like being a telepath, Polaris," Empath answered.
Just then, they came across Tracker, who was tending to the injuries of a platypus. "There, you're all better," he said gently. "Now smurf it easy and don't be smurfing too much with your flippers, or else you could smurf things even worse for yourself."
The platypus looked at Tracker and smiled gratefully for his help before it waddled away.
"Salutations, fellow Tracker," Empath greeted as they approached him. "How's things out in the forest today?"
"Just a few animals that needed my attention, Empath," Tracker answered. "I wonder what smurfs you out in the forest today with Polaris and Clumsy."
"We're just smurfing up on Dreamy, you know, because he's probably with Laconia today," Clumsy said.
"Dreamy and Laconia," Tracker mused. "I wouldn't think that the two would be smurfing up a friendship with each other, given how protective Woody is with her as his bride."
"This smurf wouldn't think he'd mind Laconia having one of her friends from the village visit her, Tracker," Empath said. "We just want to make sure that things are all right with the two of them, that's all."
"They should be over at Bluebell Dell together, the last I smurfed those two together," Tracker said. "You might want to smurf it down when you smurf through the forest, since I can hear you three very smurfly."
"This one will be sure we will take the necessary precautions, fellow Tracker," Polaris said. "May you have a peaceful day today."
"You too, Polaris," Tracker said as he watched the three of them walk on.
"This one has sensed that Tracker has sensory overload problems that he had to deal with, such as ambient noises in the village being too loud for him to handle," Polaris said.
"This smurf has sensed that as well, Polaris," Empath said. "That's why he at times has to wear ear plugs, to keep himself from going into a complete shutdown when things are just too loud for him."
"Does Papa Smurf know about that condition that he has, Empath?" Polaris asked.
"This smurf is certain that he does, Polaris," Empath answered. "Before that, it was Medic's father who diagnosed him as having the condition of a divergent mind, since he had trouble shutting out all the noises that he hears."
"But nobody's going to cure him of that condition, because he would lose the ability of his enhanced senses and thus not be a good scout to help the Smurfs track down the others," Polaris said.
"This smurf senses that his condition is permanent, Polaris," Empath said. "Besides, this smurf doesn't think it would be right to try to 'cure' him, as if he needed to be cured."
"I just wish that I was cured of my clumsiness, you guys," Clumsy said. "That way, I wouldn't smurf myself to be a burden to any of my fellow Smurfs."
"The only thing you should be is yourself, Clumsy," Empath said, trying to sound encouraging. "Mother Nature will take care of those things that you are deficient at and will give you strength for those times when you feel weak."
"Gosh, uh, thank you for your opinion of me, Empath," Clumsy said, sounding humble. "I really appreciate that!"
------
In the meantime, Smurfette came to visit Tapper while he was busy entertaining a discussion with Duncan McSmurf in his tavern.
"Smurf o' the morning to you, my dear Smurfette," Tapper greeted. "What may I smurf for you this wonderful day today?"
"I'm just curious and wondering where Dreamy might be today," Smurfette said. "I was thinking of smurfing some time with him alone in the forest."
"Ah, so the lassie's heart fully settled on Empath, I see," Duncan said. "So you think there may be a chance that you and I could smurf things together?"
Smurfette giggled. "You can wish all you want, Duncan, but Empath lets me smurf any Smurf that I feel like smurfing with, as long as I remain faithful to him."
"I'd be careful trying to smurf Smurfette's heart away from Empath, Duncan," Tapper said. "I don't think Empath would appreciate some Smurf trying to smurf themselves between himself and his darling Smurfette. As for Dreamy, Smurfette, I think he may have gone into the forest to smurf with Laconia the woodelf for a time."
"You don't think Dreamy has something smurfing on with a married woodelf now, do you, laddie?" Duncan asked.
"I'm not even suggesting it in the slightest, my friend," Tapper said defensively. "I just think Dreamy and Laconia smurf a good fellowship with each other, bonding over something they have in common."
"Well, I think Dreamy should be smurfed over so that he doesn't smurf the appearance of evil with Laconia," Smurfette said.
"I've been praying for Dreamy and Laconia, Smurfette, that their encounters with each other would be innocent of all impropriety," Tapper said.
"You ask me, I think we should leave Dreamy and Laconia alone, let them smurf what they want to smurf with each other," Duncan said. "I don't think our good friend Woody would be that jealous of his bride."
"I'm not going to smurf games with such associations that are outside the smurfs of marriage, Duncan," Tapper said. "I'm going to cover them in prayer so that the Devil doesn't smurf his schemes with them being together."
-----
Dreamy was with Laconia, watching her make flowers bloom with her magic wand. "It's so beautiful, Laconia," Dreamy said. "I feel privileged to see you smurfing this on a daily basis while your husbands smurfs around the forest smurfing his music."
Laconia signed a message that Dreamy understood.
"I'm glad to see that there isn't a problem with us smurfing together like this, Laconia," Dreamy said. "I just wish that others would undersmurf divergents like us, because we seem to smurf on a different wavelength from other beings."
Laconia signed that she felt the same way, but then she stopped and looked around.
"What is it, Laconia? What are you smurfing?" Dreamy asked, sounding curious.
Then at that moment, Empath appeared with Polaris and Clumsy. "Uh, hi, Dreamy," Clumsy greeted. "Hope we're not dissmurfing anything smurfing on between you and Laconia."
"Oh, everything is fine, Clumsy," Dreamy said. "Laconia was just smurfing me out on her daily tasks to make the flowers smurf open in the daytime. Why are you so concerned about us?"
"We're just checking up on you, to make sure things are all right, Dreamy," Empath responded.
"You don't see any problem being alone with Laconia out in the forest like this, do you?" Polaris asked.
"We smurf along just fine, Polaris," Dreamy answered. "Besides, Woody allowed us to smurf together because he needed his privacy smurfing together his music."
"we're perfectly fine, my fellow Smurfs," Laconia communicated through thought to Empath and Polaris. "Dreamy hasn't been a problem to be around, discussing personal things about our condition as divergent beings."
"We understand, Laconia," Empath said. "We'll leave you alone on your task and just tell Dreamy to come home for dinner, okay?"
"I'll be home, Empath, I promise," Dreamy said. "Now we really need you to smurf us alone."
"We'll be expecting your return by the end of the day, fellow Dreamy," Polaris said as he, Empath, and Clumsy walked off together.
Dreamy turned his attention again to Laconia. "I'm sorry about my friends, Laconia," he said. "They just mean well in smurfing over me because I'm different from the other Smurfs. Sometimes I wish Empath would just smurf me alone and not smurf over me all the time."
Laconia signed a message that only Dreamy understood.
"I can undersmurf that it's not easy to smurf your thoughts to yourself from other telepaths, Laconia," Dreamy said. "It's something that we had to deal with since Empath first smurfed to the village years ago. It's not his fault that he was born a telepath, just like it's not your fault or mine that we are born divergents."
Laconia held Dreamy's hands in hers to show that she cared for her friend.
Dreamy smiled. "I'm really glad to smurf you as a close friend, Laconia."

Chapter 2
Back in the Smurf Village, Brainy had a private conversation with Papa Smurf about something on his mind.
"How could Clumsy hide this secret from me, that he is a divergent, Papa Smurf?" Brainy asked. "I thought that we were so close that he could smurf me anything without me judging him for it?"
"Maybe Clumsy felt a little ashamed about his condition that he didn't feel comfortable smurfing it with the entire village, Brainy," Papa Smurf answered. "It's nothing that you should smurf personally. I'm sure that he still likes you as a friend."
"But how am I supposed to smurf to him now that I know he's a divergent, Papa Smurf?" Brainy asked.
"He's still your friend, Brainy," Papa Smurf answered. "Just tell him that you still care for him no matter what he is, whether he is a divergent or not."
"But what if he starts smurfing those strange behaviors that I have heard divergents smurf, like stimming?" Brainy asked.
"I don't think he's going to hurt anyone else with his behaviors, Brainy, especially with stimming," Papa Smurf answered. "It's just how divergents will act when they start smurfing anxiety and they don't know how to smurf with it."
"Have you noticed anything about Clumsy that would make you smurf that he is a divergent, Papa Smurf?" Brainy asked.
"Clumsy just acts like he normally does, Brainy," Papa Smurf answered. "I wouldn't know too much about the condition to really smurf that he exhibits the behaviors of a divergent."
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Papa Smurf opened it, and it was Hefty. "Papa Smurf, I smurfed something in the forest that was smurfing hideous screaming sounds, and we don't know what to smurf, because everytime we smurf too close to it, it starts screaming again," Hefty reported. "I think you'd better smurf this thing out with me."
Papa Smurf sighed, realizing that his conversation with Brainy will have to end right there. "I'll smurf with you right now, Hefty, if that will help ease our minds," he announced.
"Oh, please, Papa Smurf, I really need your attention on my issue!" Brainy pleaded.
"I'm sorry, Brainy, but my little Smurfs need me," Papa Smurf said, sounding sympathetic. "I promise that I will smurf you all the attention you need once we have finished smurfing with this issue. Just be patient."
"Yes, Papa Smurf, I understand," Brainy said, sighing as he watched Papa Smurf follow Hefty.
-----
In the forest, Papa Smurf saw a group of Smurfs in a circle together, looking at something that he knew was the source of the screaming. "Make way, my little Smurfs, I will handle this!" Papa Smurf cried out.
He reached the circle and saw that in the midst was a young goblin with olive skin and blond hair. "Oh, the agony of having to hear everything all at once!" he screamed.
"Papa Smurf, you should smurf in a whisper," one of the Smurfs said in a low tone. "This creature can smurf even the slightest sound."
"Oops, sorry!" Papa Smurf said, lowering his tone so that it couldn't cause the creature any further pain. He then turned to Hefty and said, "How long has he been smurfed like this?"
"I don't know, Papa Smurf, I just found him smurfing like this, and I had to smurf for myself to see what was dissmurfing the other Smurfs," Hefty said, also in a low tone.
"So how are we going to smurf with this creature, to smurf him to quiet down?" another Smurf asked. "Would Empath know?"
"I'm sure Empath can smurf the feelings of this creature if it's smurfing torment to all of us," Papa Smurf said. "Right now, we've got to smurf sure that he knows that he don't mean him any harm. You Smurfs smurf put, I'll try to smurf close, but not close enough to touch him."
"Yes, Papa Smurf," the other Smurfs said together.
Papa Smurf crept up softly to the goblin, making as little noise as possible. "Oh, I just can't stand it anymore!" the goblin bawled.
"Hello there, my young friend," Papa Smurf politely greeted.
The goblin looked and shrieked, terribly frightened. "WHO ARE YOU?!?" he yelled.
"I'm Papa Smurf, and I smurfed here specifically to help you," Papa said gently. "And what's your name?"
"Uh...As...Aspernion," the goblin replied meekly. "You're not going to hurt me, are you?"
"We're not interested in smurfing harm to any creature, Aspernion," Papa Smurf said. "Mind if I smurf next to you?"
"Uh...I prefer you not to touch me...I'm deathly afraid of touch!" Aspernion said nervously.
"Fine, then I will smurf my distance so you can feel comfortable," Papa Smurf said, standing about a centimeter away from the goblin. "Uh, Aspernion, may I ask what you are smurfing here, and why are you so upset?"
"Don't talk so loud!" Aspernion barked, making Papa Smurf flinch a little. "I'm sorry, I must not be very good as a social creature. It's just that I have very sensitive hearing, and that I have no way of controlling it."
"I assume that you must have heard of Empath and what he is capable of smurfing," Papa Smurf said.
"I hear his name, and I'm thinking, 'He's a healer, he can deliver me of my torment,' so that's why I came here, to seek the attention of the Smurf Village healer," the goblin said.
"I'll see what I can smurf, but that's entirely Empath's choice, my friend," Papa Smurf said. "I don't think he will turn down any who are sincere in their desire to be healed."
"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, Papa Smurf!" Aspernion cried, circling around in joy. "I feel so exuberated it makes me want to spin!"
"Oh boy, now he's going to act like Dreamy," Hefty said in disgust.
Papa Smurf turned toward his little Smurfs. "My little Smurfs, we're going to smurf everything we can to make this goblin feel like home to him while we wait for Empath to return," Papa Smurf said. "That means that we're going to have to smurf our manners and our tone of voice so that we don't overwhelm him with sound. Is that clear?"
"Yes, Papa Smurf," the other Smurfs said together, being careful to speak in a low tone.
Papa Smurf then turned to Aspernion. "We're going to smurf ourselves to the Smurf Village now, Aspernion," he said. "I can assure you that we will treat you with smurfmost care and respect. You have nothing to fear from me."
"Uh...as long as nobody even touches me, Papa Smurf," Aspernion said. "I'm afraid of being touched. I would absolutely die if anyone even touches me slightly."
"I understand," Papa Smurf said, sounding reassuring. "My little Smurfs, do not smurf too close to Aspernion, because he hates to be touched. Is that clear?"
"Fine with me!" Grouchy grunted. "I don't want to be touched either!"
"Whatever you say, Papa Smurf," the other Smurfs said together.
"You think it would be safe to smurf Aspernion to the village, Papa Smurf?" Hefty asked.
"We'll make it as safe as possible for him, Hefty," Papa Smurf answered. "Trust me on this."
-----
Back in the village, Brainy met with Tapper inside his tavern to have a personal talk with him. "Good day, my fellow Brainy," Tapper greeted. "So what may I smurf you for this fine day before the tavern opens?"
"I've got to smurf your opinion about a secret Clumsy has smurfed to me, his closest friend," Brainy said.
"I smurf in my spirit that you don't want to reveal this secret to anybody, including me," Tapper said. "I'll understand if you want to smurf those things private, so I won't smurf you for any information."
"Thank you, Tapper, I'd appreciate that," Brainy said. "Anyway, about Clumsy's secret, did he ever reveal anything to you along the lines of what he has revealed to me."
"I know a whole lot about Clumsy because he has confided in me over the years about his condition, Brainy," Tapper said.
"So you know that he is a...a dive?" Brainy asked.
"I don't think smurfing him 'a dive' is a smurfy idea, but yes, I know about the condition you're referring to," Tapper answered.
"So how do I deal with knowing that Clumsy is a dive now?" Brainy asked.
"Just tell him that what he has revealed to you won't change how you feel about him, if you're truly his friend," Tapper answered. "It probably has been tough for him to reveal that secret to you, because he wasn't sure how you would react to that news."
"Well, I always wanted Clumsy to be smart, but if he is a divergent, I feel that he may end up surpassing me in intelligence and wisdom," Brainy said.
Tapper chuckled. "I wouldn't think that of Clumsy, though I'd be surprised to know how intelligent he really is. It may be something Papa Smurf unlocked when Clumsy for a time became the chief record smurfer."
"So Clumsy didn't know that he was a dive until that moment in Papa Smurf's lab?" Brainy asked.
"I honestly don't know, Brainy, I'm just smurfing that it may be," Tapper answered.
Just then, Duncan came into the tavern. "All righty, what are you two laddies been smurfing on about?" Duncan asked.
"About a secret that Clumsy had smurfed between ourselves, as his closest friends, my fellow Duncan," Tapper said. "We just don't want this information to be smurfed among the other Smurfs just yet."
"I understand, I really do," Duncan said. "I'd be curious to know about that secret, but if it's something that only Clumsy wants to reveal to me personally, he knows where I am."
"Thank you, Duncan, I wouldn't know what I would smurf without you," Brainy said, sounding relieved.
Soon they could hear yelling and shouting outside the tavern. "Wonder what's smurfing on that's making the laddies so excited?" Duncan asked.
"It wouldn't hurt to smurf outside and find out for ourselves, my friends," Tapper said as he laid aside his towel on the counter and left the tavern with Brainy and Duncan.

Chapter 3
Out in the forest, Empath, Polaris, and Clumsy were on their way back to the village when Empath sensed something that made him stop in his tracks. "Empath, what is it?" Polaris asked.
"This smurf senses somebody in constant pain who is in need of help," Empath answered. "We need to return to the village as soon as possible."
"Golly, I hope whoever it is is not in danger," Clumsy said, sounding empathetic.
Empath, Polaris, and Clumsy hurried to the village as fast as they could. Empath was still sensing the pain from somebody, that was driving him toward the village at a pace where he outran his two friends.
He reached the village to find a group of Smurfs in a circle together, including Papa Smurf. "This smurf returned as soon as possible, Papa Smurf," Empath said. "This smurf sensed that someone is in extreme pain."
"We have smurfed home a goblin who is very sensitive to sound, Empath," Papa Smurf said in a low tone.
"This smurf understands," Empath said, lowering his voice. "This smurf will do everything this smurf can to alleviate the situation."
"Please, somebody smurf something!" Vanity said. "This screaming is really smurfing my ears!"
"I hate somebody smurfing my ears!" Grouchy said, holding his hands over his ears.
Empath carefully approached Aspernion as quietly as possible. "Oh, please, where's Empath?" the goblin cried out. "I need him to heal me of this unbearable condition!"
"Salutations, my fellow goblin," Empath greeted. "This smurf is here to help you."
Aspernion turned and saw Empath, shaking in fear. "You must be Empath. My name is Aspernion."
"This smurf is pleased to meet you, Aspernion," Empath said gently. "This smurf can sense that you have a problem dealing with noise."
"I do, I do!" Aspernion said. "I've been living with this annoying condition all my life! I just want to be able to hear without hearing everything that is all around me!"
"This smurf will do what this smurf can to help you, Aspernion," Empath said. "Would you mind if this smurf comes closer?"
"Just don't touch me! I hate being touched!" Aspernion cried out.
"Fair enough," Empath said, coming close to Aspernion and sitting down next to him. "You know, it's going to be difficult for this smurf to heal you if this smurf can't touch you because this smurf needs to lay a hand on you in order to transfer this smurf's healing powers unto you."
"But you can heal me, yes?" Aspernion asked.
"As this smurf said, this smurf will everything I can to help you, but this smurf can't make any promises," Empath answered. "How long ago have you had this condition?"
"Uh...since I was born," Aspernion said. "I didn't want anyone to touch me, so my parents abandoned me when I was young."
"Aw, that's terrible," Empath said. "This smurf was left in Psychelia when this smurf was an infant because Papa Smurf thought nobody but the Psyches could help this smurf control this smurf's abilities."
"But you know how to control them now," Aspernion said. "You know how to heal others with your abilities."
"This smurf's mental abilities does allow this smurf to heal others, but it does weaken this smurf somewhat whenever this smurf uses this particular ability," Empath said. "It's not something this smurf uses very often."
"So that means if you use your ability to heal me, it would weaken you," Aspernion said, realizing. "So what would you do?"
"This smurf could use a mindlink with this smurf's other Smurfs to help strengthen this smurf's ability to heal you without weakening this smurf, Aspernion," Empath said. "It's the only thing this smurf could suggest."
"You mean, your fellow Smurfs could help you heal me with this mindlink?" Aspernion asked.
"It would take a communal effort for this smurf to establish the mindlink, but this smurf is certain that the other Smurfs wouldn't refuse to help you by being part of this mindlink," Empath answered.
"Oh, please, do something!" Aspernion cried out. "I can't stand to live another minute with this condition!"
Empath smiled. "Let this smurf talk with the other Smurfs to let them know that this is what this smurf is going to do."
------
Tapper and Duncan was with Papa Smurf, Polaris, and Clumsy when Empath had finished talking with Aspernion. "Well, Empath, what are you planning to smurf with Aspernion?" Papa Smurf asked.
"This smurf needs to have a mindlink with the other Smurfs active before this smurf can attempt to heal him of his disorder, Papa Smurf," Empath answered.
"Golly, Empath, you're going to smurf our minds together just to heal him?" Clumsy asked.
"I feel sorry for the poor laddie, but I smurf a wee bit hesitant in wanting to smurf my mind together with the other Smurfs just to heal that goblin, Empath," Duncan said.
"My spirit smurfs we should exercise a bit of caution here, but I'm willing to help our friend here with whatever I can offer him," Tapper said.
"Wait a minute here!" Hefty said. "You want us to smurf our minds together with this star-face just to heal a goblin?"
"I hate healing goblins," Grouchy said.
The other Smurfs started voicing their objections over helping to heal Aspernion until Papa Smurf silenced them. "I know some of us didn't like what happened when we had to deal with Mystico when he was accidentally freed from the crystal in that fountain in the forest, but Aspernion is a different matter. Would we truly smurf our backs on someone who is in desperate need of our help if we could help them?"
"But, Papa Smurf, we don't know what's going to happen if we do help him!" Brainy said.
"Yeah, what if he starts smurfing us into goblins like Mystico did?" Greedy asked.
"This smurf assures you that is not what Aspernion intends to do with us, Greedy," Empath said. "You can't judge all goblins just by what one other goblin did to us when we accidentally freed him."
"Gosh, I just don't know about that," Clumsy said. "I still remember Mystico smurfing me those big feet when he smurfed me into a goblin."
"And when he smurfed me those big teeth," Greedy said.
"And when he smurfed me those big arms," Hefty said.
"And when he made me smurf so fast I could hardly understand myself," Brainy said.
"Well, I wasn't there in the forest when Mystico smurfed those things to you," Smurfette said, "but we're not dealing with Mystico here. We have a poor soul who's in need to help, and I'm willing to help Empath heal him by smurfing part of the mindlink."
"I know how you feel, my little Smurfs," Papa Smurf said. "But we're still Smurfs, and we're going to help Empath in any capacity that we might offer him. Empath, summon the rest of the Smurfs to join us as soon as possible. We're going to smurf together this mindlink to help you heal Aspernion of his condition."
"This smurf understands and acknowledges, Papa Smurf," Empath said.
-----
Tracker found himself meeting with Dreamy and Laconia. "You smurf the summons from Empath?" Tracker asked.
"I did, I just asked Laconia to smurf with me because I have no idea what we're smurfing here," Dreamy answered.
"Empath didn't smurf me what's going on in the village either," Tracker said. "I just hope it's worth smurfing me away from the animals in the forest."
"We'll find out smurfer or later, Tracker," Dreamy said as the three of them continued on.
They soon reached the village, where they were greeted by the Smurflings. "Galloping grasshoppers, you Smurfs, where have you been?" Sassette asked.
"Pray tell, do you know what's smurfing on the village?" Tracker asked.
"Empath's going to smurf his mindlink with us to help heal a goblin of some sort of smurfory issue he's smurfing," Slouchy answered.
"He wants us to make sure we're all smurfing this together so he could smurf the power he needs," Snappy said.
"I do feel sorry for the poor creature," Nat said. "It must be painful having to smurf through all that day by day."
Laconia signed a message that Dreamy understood. "I understand your concern, Laconia, but we'll be all right," Dreamy said. "Just be there with us in case anything happens."
The three of them approached the crowd of Smurfs that were standing around in a circle, with Empath standing near Aspernion. "This smurf senses that every Smurf is here, Papa Smurf," Empath said.
"You may proceed, Empath," Papa Smurf said.
Empath then closed his eyes and focused his mental abilities to link every Smurf's mind together. Soon every Smurf could hear each other's thoughts in their own minds. We are now one mind, one thought, they said together.
Aspernion watched as Empath's star mark grew brighter and brighter until it was so bright he could hardly see. Then he felt an immense power flowing through him as Empath's combined power poured into him. The sensation lasted for less than a minute, and then when it ended, Aspernion experienced something. "The noise level...it's lowered!" he cried out.
"How are you feeling now, Aspernion?" Empath asked.
"I feel...like everything is now quiet!" Aspernion answered, sounding joyful. "Oh, thank you for healing me! I feel like an entirely new goblin!" He started spinning around and around, totally ecstatic.
Empath smiled. "This smurf is honored to help you, Aspernion."
Every Smurf sighed, relieved that the mindlink is now over. "Well, that's a complete relief from my mind," Hefty said.
"You smurfed it, Hefty," Handy said.
"Gosh, he likes to smurf around just like I do," Clumsy said, watching Aspernion spin around.
"I hate smurfing myself around," Grouchy said.
Smurfette noticed that Empath was holding his head after the mindlink. "Are you all right, Empath?" Smurfette asked.
"This smurf isn't sure, Smurfette," Empath answered. "Maybe it's just an aftereffect of the mindlink that will go away in time."
"Maybe this one should monitor you in case something worse happens, Empath," Polaris offered.
Empath sighed. "This smurf would appreciate that, Polaris."

I find it interesting to read how the smurfs navigate relationships with their divergent friends. The different perspectives are well formed for both "dives" and non-dives. It's smurfy to see the thoughtfulness and desire to best meet the needs of their fellow smurfs. We should all be made to feel comfortable and accepted to be our true self with loved ones.
Now I am worried for Empath after his mindlink...

Chapter 4
Dreamy, Tracker, and Clumsy hung out together with Laconia after the group dispersed. "I can't believe it, you guys!" Clumsy said. "I just smurfed out as a divergent!"
"Well, congratulations, Clumsy," Dreamy said. "I'm glad you're ready to let other Smurfs know what you really are."
"We're certainly a unique group of Smurfs among Smurfs, my fellows," Tracker said. "Being a divergent hasn't been an easy thing, especially when trying to interact with your fellow Smurfs."
"You seem to smurf it easily enough, Tracker," Clumsy said. "I just have Brainy to interact with most of the time."
Laconia signed a message that Dreamy understood. "I could only imagine what it's like to be both mute and divergent at the same time, Laconia," Dreamy said. "Trying to exsmurf your needs as a young woodelf probably wasn't easy."
"At least we have each other to smurf back on, fellows," Tracker said. "Frankly, I don't think the village could survive without my unique skills as a scout."
Just then the Smurflings came along. "How's it going, Laconia?" Sassette asked.
Laconia signed a message that the Smurflings easily understood.
"We're glad that you're happy with your husband Woody," Nat said. "We're still too young to marry anyone."
"I'm still not going to marry Sassette, even if she's the last Smurfette around," Snappy said.
"Sassy may not want to marry you either, Snap," Slouchy said.
"I'm not thinking about marriage right now, but just the same, you're the last Smurf that's on my mind to marry, Snap," Sassette said.
"Anyway, we're glad to have you in our village, Laconia, even if it's just for a visit," Nat said, which made Laconia smile.
"So what's the story here?" Snappy asked. "Why are the four of you smurfing around together?"
"And why is Clumsy with you Smurfs?" Slouchy asked. "Is he also one of those divergents?"
"That's what I wanted to tell you Smurfs, but I wasn't sure how you would smurf it," Clumsy answered.
"Giggling giraffes, I wouldn't have ever smurfed you as a divergent before, Clumsy," Sassette said.
"Yeah, I'd probably think Brainy would be a divergent, because of his intelligence and his awkwardness around us Smurfs," Snappy said.
"That would be my guess as well, Snap, although intelligence isn't a word I would smurf with Brainy," Slouchy said.
"I'm sure the other Smurfs would still like you, Clumsy," Nat said. "Other than you just being clumsy, you haven't been a real problem to us."
"Say, is everything smurfing a little too loud around here, or is it just me?" Sassette asked.
"Smurf a little quiet, Sassy, you're smurfing too loud for me to think!" Snappy said.
"Come to smurf of it, things are just smurfing a little too loud for me, though I don't know why," Slouchy said.
"Maybe we should see Papa Smurf, to find out why are things smurfing a little too loud in the village," Nat said.
"That's funny, everything smurfs to be a normal volume for me," Dreamy said.
"Same here," Tracker said. "I think we should see Papa Smurf in case there's a problem in the village."
"Gosh, I could only wonder why the Smurflings think everything's now too loud for them," Clumsy said as they walked together.
-----
Papa Smurf examined the Smurflings with his medical instruments to make sure there was nothing wrong with their ears. All the while the Smurflings were squirming around, feeling very uncomfortable with the noise of the instruments in their ears.
"Hmmm, this is very puzzling," Papa Smurf said, stroking his beard after his examination. "I found nothing wrong with your ears, yet you say that you're hearing things smurfing a bit too loudly. How long has this been smurfening?"
"Just a few moments ago, Papa Smurf," Snappy answered.
"Yeah, right after we finished helping Empath heal Aspernion with that mindlink," Slouchy added.
"Is there anything you can smurf for us, Pappy?" Sassette asked.
"I would recommend that you ask Handy for some earsmurfs to help reduce the noise levels, until we can smurf out what the cause of the problem is," Papa Smurf answered. "In the meantime, I will see if this problem is becoming widesmurfed."
"Oh, thanks, Papa Smurf," Nat said. "Come on, Smurflings, we might as well smurf over to Handy's workshop."
Papa Smurf, Tracker, Clumsy, Dreamy, and Laconia watched the Smurflings leave Papa Smurf's laboratory. "We honestly don't know what's smurfing this problem, Papa Smurf," Tracker said. "Our hearing seems to be smurfing perfectly."
"Gosh, is it because we're divergents?" Clumsy asked.
"I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, Clumsy," Papa Smurf answered. "But all the same, I'm going to smurf out the answers for myself to see what it is that's affecting the Smurflings."
"Is there anything we can smurf about it, Papa Smurf?" Dreamy asked.
"Just try to smurf this situation under control until I have an answer, Dreamy," Papa Smurf answered. "Empath can deal with any situations that smurf up while I'm busy with my research."
"You can count on us, Papa Smurf," Tracker said. "Come, let's leave Papa Smurf alone."
"Coming," Clumsy said as the four of them left Papa Smurf's laboratory.
-----
Laconia signed something that Dreamy understood. "I can understand how you're feeling, Laconia," Dreamy said. "I wouldn't want to have to smurf through what the Smurflings are smurfing through."
"Golly, isn't that what you smurfed through when you were young, Tracker?" Clumsy asked.
"I had difficulty with my senses, Clumsy, but as I got older, I got used to how my senses smurf, so that I'm not overwhelmed with everything I hear, see, and smell," Tracker answered.
"But what could have caused the Smurflings to start smurfing things being too loud?" Clumsy asked.
"I honestly don't know," Tracker said. "But we should be aware if this becomes a problem with the entire village."
"This is something I never would have dreamed would happen," Dreamy said.
Just then, they came across several Smurfs covering their ears with their hands. "Ohhh, everything in the village sounds painful to listen to," one Smurf groaned.
"Why is everything so loud all of a sudden?" another Smurf asked.
"It's like Mother Nature smurfed up the volume of the whole world," a third Smurf said.
"We'd better see Papa Smurf if he knows what's smurfing on," a fourth Smurf said.
Clumsy, Dreamy, Tracker, and Laconia watched those Smurfs pass by them. "By gum, those Smurfs seem to have sensory issues," Tracker said.
"But we certainly don't, at least not yet," Dreamy said.
"I hope we can find Empath and see if he knows what's smurfing on here," Clumsy said.
Soon they came across Vanity, who was walking around naked, wearing nothing but a cloth mask over his face. "Uhhh, those horrid smells!" he fumed. "I can't seem to smurf away from them!"
"Gosh, Vanity, what happened to your clothes?" Clumsy asked.
"The fabric of my clothes is smurfing me pain, Clumsy, so much pain that I just can't bear smurfing them anymore," Vanity answered. "And you four really smell terrible!"
"That's funny, I don't seem to smell anything smurfing from me," Dreamy said, sniffing.
"Me neither," Clumsy added.
"Nor from me," Tracker joined in. "I think you'd better see Papa Smurf if that's what's troubling you, Vanity."
"You know, you're right," Vanity said. "Maybe Papa Smurf would smurf me a cream to make wearing clothes more comfortable for me, though I don't know what he could smurf for the smell."
Laconia signed something that Dreamy understood as the four of them watched Vanity walk away. "I agree, Laconia, something definitely strange is smurfing on with our fellow Smurfs," Dreamy said.
"Gosh, it smurfs like the whole village is slowly becoming divergent, and they don't know how to handle it," Clumsy said.
"Let's go find Empath and see if he knows what's smurfing on around here," Tracker suggested.
-----
Meanwhile, Empath was with Polaris and Smurfette, watching Aspernion go about, feeling so excited about being healed of his sensory issue. Empath sensed that it must be a relief for Aspernion to not have to deal with it anymore.
"Aspernion seems really happy that you have released him from his torment, Empath," Smurfette said as she watched.
"This one is rather curious about the nature of his sensory overload issue, Empath," Polaris said. "This one has sensed that it hasn't been the first time someone tried to heal him of that condition."
"What do you mean, Polaris?" Empath asked.
"It means that our guest hasn't been entirely truthful about the condition that he has, Empath, that he was born with it and that nobody tried to do anything about it," Polaris answered.
"But he's healed now, so what's the problem?" Empath asked.
"This one is suggesting that we do a more thorough examination of him to see what's going on with him and why this condition even existed in the first place," Polaris answered.
"But that would involve touching him, and this smurf senses that he doesn't like to be touched," Empath said.
"You mean even the slightest smurf could hurt him, Empath?" Smurfette asked.
"That's what this smurf sensed, Smurfette," Empath answered. "We'd have to be very careful if we want to do a thorough examination of him, if he even wants that."
"We could assure him that we mean him no harm, Empath," Smurfette said. "I don't think that could possibly hurt him."
"Whatever we need to do, we must do it for the sake of keeping the village safe in case anything happens," Polaris said.
Just then, Dreamy, Tracker, Clumsy, and Laconia approached Empath. "What seems to be on your mind, my fellow Smurfs?" Empath asked.
"We're experiencing a problem in the village, Empath," Dreamy answered.
"A good deal of our fellow Smurfs are smurfing to experience sensory issues such as sounds smurfing too loud or smells being too powerful," Tracker added.
"It started with the Smurflings, and now it's smurfing to everyone else," Clumsy joined in.
"Oh dear," Smurfette moaned, her heart going out to her fellow Smurfs. "We must smurf something to help them, Empath."
"This smurf agrees with you, Smurfette," Empath said before he clutched his head with his hands, feeling an incredible pain.
"Empath, what's wrong?" Smurfette said.
"Oh...it's like hearing everything at once in my head, Smurfette...I can't stop it!" Empath managed to say.
"Gosh, now it's affecting Empath as well!" Clumsy said, sounding shocked.
"My smurfs, where did Aspernion go?" Tracker asked as he noticed that the goblin was gone.
"I don't know," Dreamy said. "We were too busy dealing with Empath's problem, so he must have disappeared."
"You Smurfs must go and find Aspernion," Polaris said. "This one will stay to help Empath deal with his sensory problem."
"I hope that we haven't smurfed off Aspernion by what's smurfing on here," Smurfette said.
"We will go and find him before it's too late," Tracker said. "Come, my fellow Smurfs, let's smurf the entire village to see if we can find Aspernion before he smurfs too far."
"Gosh, I only hope we can find him," Clumsy said as the four of them left Polaris and Smurfette with Empath.

I use the term "divergent" as a substitute for autism, since that word wasn't used until 1911, but that's what these characters deal with. I felt like writing a Smurf story about autism because that's what I'm diagnosed with.

Chapter 5
Meanwhile, Tapper was busy in his tavern cleaning his glasses and mugs when Duncan came to him, sounding urgent. "Tapper, laddie, I think the whole village has gone smurfy with some sort of sensory problem," he said.
Tapper looked at Duncan, feeling concerned. "Are you certain that the whole village has this problem?" he asked.
"I wouldn't be smurfing to you if I didn't think it were true, laddie," Duncan answered. "It smurfs that one by one the other Smurfs are smurfing things being too loud for them or too smelly for them or their clothes being too painful for them to wear."
"Now that is a strange thing to happen to our fellow Smurfs," Tapper said, putting down his towel. "I will go with you to see if there's anything that I can smurf for them. Perhaps the Almighty would smurf His healing hand upon our fellows."
Just then, Grouchy came bursting into the tavern, shielding his eyes. "Please, smurf down the shades! I cannot stand to be smurfing bright light anywhere!" he cried out.
Tapper and Duncan responded by closing the shades on the windows. "What smurfs to be your problem, laddie?" Duncan asked.
"The light is just too bright for my eyes to smurf!" Grouchy said, slowly uncovering his eyes. "I can't smurf anywhere except inside houses because of the sunlight! It's too painful for my eyes!"
"Great Smurfiny Crickets, my fellow Grouchy, I wouldn't think that you would have light sensitivity like Orbit smurfs," Tapper said, sounding sympathetic. "You may stay in my tavern for as long as you like, until we can resolve this problem."
"Oh, thank you, Tapper, thank you!" Grouchy gushed, feeling relieved. "Just be careful when you smurf in and smurf out!"
"I'm sure you'll watch over my tavern and make sure nobody else smurfs in here while I'm gone," Tapper said as both he and Duncan headed for the door, carefully opening and closing it as they left.
"Poor laddie," Duncan said. "I hope that your God would be able to heal him of his physical problem."
"I pray that would be the case myself, Duncan," Tapper said before he found himself covering his ears, feeling like he was being assaulted.
"Tapper! Don't tell me it's happening to you now!" Duncan said, looking at his friend's reaction.
"O Lord, help me in my time of trial, and help my fellow Smurfs deal with this problem," Tapper cried out, still holding his hands over his ears.
"Come, let me smurf you to Handy's workshop," Duncan offered, trying to put a hand on Tapper's shoulder.
"Aaah, don't touch me!" Tapper screamed. "Your touch is just so painful for me to smurf!"
"Sorry, laddie, but come with me," Duncan said as he led Tapper gently to Handy's workshop.
-----
Papa Smurf was busy researching the growing problem in the village when Brainy came knocking on his door. "What is it?" he asked impatiently as he let Brainy in.
"Papa Smurf, everybody in the village is smurfing crazy," Brainy said. "It's like I can't smurf an inch or two without smurfing into a Smurf that doesn't have some sort of sensory problem."
"I'm trying the best I can to calm my little Smurfs down, Brainy," Papa Smurf said. "I would suggest that you would help calm everyone else down and not try to smurf up a panic around the village."
"But there's only so much that I can smurf, Papa Smurf," Brainy said.
"Then I would suggest you smurf up with Dreamy, Clumsy, Tracker, and Laconia to see if you can help them settle matters down in the village," Papa Smurf said. "I'm sure that you can handle things without my help."
Brainy sighed. "All right, but I hope we have a solution to this problem that's smurfing soon."
After Brainy left, there was another knock on the door. It was Polaris with Empath. "Papa Smurf, Empath has been incapacitated with a sensory problem, and this one is doing everything he can to help Empath deal with it," Polaris said.
"Brainy told me that this problem is smurfing into a village-wide problem, Polaris," Papa Smurf said. "I would suggest that you help Empath smurf with his problem while we smurf out who or what is causing this problem in the first place."
"This one has a sense that it may have originated with our mindlink joining with Empath's mind to heal Aspernion of his sensory issue, Papa Smurf," Polaris said.
"Then we need to find Aspernion as soon as we can before this problem affects the whole village," Papa Smurf said.
"This one understands and acknowledges, Papa Smurf," Polaris said.
Just then, Smurfette came knocking, carrying Baby Smurf with her. "Papa Smurf, I can't get Baby Smurf to stop crying!" Smurfette said, sounding frustrated.
Papa Smurf felt like he was going to explode. "ALL RIGHT, ALL YOU SMURFS! EVERYBODY OUT OF MY LAB RIGHT NOW!" he yelled.
"This one thinks it would be best for us to leave Papa Smurf alone, Smurfette," Polaris advised.
"What is making Papa Smurf so upset with us, Polaris?" Smurfette asked as she and Polaris left the laboratory.
"Papa Smurf is trying to deal with the problem by researching its cause, Smurfette," Polaris answered. "If we don't find the answer soon for our predicament, the entire village could be affected by this sensory overload problem."
-----
Meanwhile, Dreamy, Tracker, Clumsy, and Laconia are busy looking for Aspernion, trying to track down where he went through Tracker's sense of smell, since he knew what the goblin smelled like. Along the way, they encountered various Smurfs who were coming down with various sensory issues, with sound, smell, sight, or touch.
"Aaaah, don't touch me!" another Smurf shouted as the four of them came close enough to accidentally brush into him.
"Gosh, those poor Smurfs seem to have it really bad," Clumsy said, feeling his heart going out to them.
"How close are we to finding Aspernion, Tracker?" Dreamy asked.
Tracker sniffed the air. "I have a feeling that he must have smurfed from the village after he was healed."
"Then we must follow the scent, wherever it may smurf us," Dreamy said.
"I hope we can find a way to resmurf whatever's going on here soon," Clumsy said as the three of them followed Tracker into the forest as he continued to sniff around for Aspernion's scent.
Laconia signed something that only Dreamy understood. "Maybe it's time we smurf in Woody your husband, see if he can help handle the situation in the village," Dreamy said.
As the four of them ventured into the forest, they could hear Aspernion nearby rejoicing. "Oh, I am free, I am free, I am free!" he kept shouting loudly.
"That sounds like Aspernion, all right," Clumsy said.
"Let's see what the little fellow is doing right now," Tracker said as they got closer.
They soon found themselves face to face with a group of goblins. "Halt! Who comes near?" one of them asked.
"Um, I'm Clumsy, and these are my friends Dreamy, Tracker, and Laconia," Clumsy answered timidly.
"Laconia we have heard of, but we don't know the rest of you," another goblin said.
"Who are you seeking after?" a third goblin asked.
"We are seeking for a goblin named Aspernion, whom Empath has healed from his sensory issue problem not long ago," Dreamy answered.
"I can sense that he is nearby," Tracker said. "Will you allow us to smurf him?"
"We will allow you to come close to him, but don't touch him...he doesn't like to be touched," a fourth goblin said.
The goblins led the three Smurfs and Laconia to Aspernion, who was spinning around and rejoicing. "I'm free! Ha ha ha...oh, how wonderfully quiet everything is in my head! I can't believe that I am healed!"
Laconia signed something that Dreamy understood. "He does seem oblivious to the fact of what happened to everyone in the Smurf Village that helped heal him, Laconia," Dreamy said.
"But how do we smurf his attention to what's smurfing on?" Clumsy asked.
"Let me try something, Clumsy," Tracker said. He then approached Aspernion, who then balked at the sight at the Smurfs approaching him.
"Aaaah! Don't touch me! I hate being touched!" Aspernion cried out, starting to flee away.
"Aspernion, we need your help because our fellow Smurfs are now suffering," Tracker said.
"Uh, yeah, everybody now seems to have sensory issues," Clumsy said.
Laconia signed something that the goblins understood. "You may come closer, but don't touch him if you value your life," one of the goblins responded.
Laconia approached Aspernion and then took out her wand and waved it toward the goblin. "No, please, what are you going to do to me?" Aspernion asked, sounding fearful.
But then as the Smurfs and the goblins watched, Aspernion glowed with a warm glow as Laconia cast her magic on him. It lasted for a moment, and then Aspernion felt a sigh of relief, as if something wonderful had touched him.
"Gosh, what did Laconia do to Aspernion?" Clumsy asked, curious to know.
Laconia came close to Aspernion and gave him a hug. Aspernion did not try to squirm or run away. "Oh, thank you, kind elf, thank you, thank you, thank you!" he cried with tears in his eyes.
The goblins cheered as they watched Laconia give Aspernion a kiss on the forehead. "Our brother goblin is completely healed."
"HURRAY FOR LACONIA!" the goblins shouted for joy.
Dreamy fought a tear forming in his eye. "I'd never thought that Laconia could smurf such a healing touch to a goblin before."
"Me neither," Tracker said. "But that means we still have a whole village that needs to be healed."
"Uh, excuse me, goblins, but would you mind if we take Aspernion back to our village for a moment?" Dreamy asked.
"Please, as long as you return him to us by nightfall," one of the goblins answered.
"We certainly will," Tracker said, as Laconia took Aspernion gently by the hand.
"I don't get it," Clumsy said. "What do we need Aspernion for if Laconia could heal him like that?"
"We divergents need each other to heal the normals, Clumsy," Tracker answered. "We're the only ones who could understand what we need better than the normals, including Empath."
"I hope that we can smurf something together to bring the village back to normal, Tracker," Dreamy said.

Chapter 6
When the three Smurfs and Laconia returned to the village with Aspernion, they saw that the whole village was overcome with the sensory issue problem, and they were writhing in pain dealing with sounds, sights, smells, and texture. "Oh my goodness, I didn't know that I was responsible for all this!" Aspernion said, feeling his heart going out to them.
"Never mind that now, we need to find Empath to smurf an end to all this," Tracker said.
"I see him, you guys, smurfing over there," Clumsy said, pointing in the direction where he saw Empath.
They went over to Empath, who was still clutching his head, trying to shut out all the noise in it. "Okay, now that we're here, what are we going to smurf about it?" Dreamy asked.
"Let me touch him, because I'm not afraid of anyone touching me now," Aspernion replied. He then approached Empath and touched him gently. "Empath, I've come back to cure you and your fellow Smurfs."
Empath felt as if all the noises in the world have ceased. He then turned to Aspernion. "Where have you gone?" he asked.
"I've gone into the forest to meet with my fellow goblins, but now I've come back, Empath," Aspernion answered.
"Thank the Ancestors you came back, Aspernion," Empath said. "Can you help heal this smurf's fellow Smurfs?"
"I can now, since I no longer have a problem of anyone touching me," Aspernion said. And then he reached out and touched Smurfette, who was also suffering at this point. "Smurfette, you are now healed."
Smurfette looked at Aspernion, finding herself feeling much better. "Aspernion, you're back! I'm glad you've returned!"
"You've healed me, now I must return the favor and heal you," Aspernion said. And then, as Aspernion went throughout the whole village, he touched every Smurf that was affected and healed them all, one by one.
Papa Smurf looked upon all his little Smurfs, having been healed. "Is everyone in the village healed?" he asked.
"Yes, Papa Smurf, and it's all because of Aspernion," Brainy answered.
Vanity looked at himself. "Heavens to Smurfatroid, I'm naked! I'd better go and cover myself immediately!"
Jokey laughed. "You're not the only one who's naked in the village, Vanity."
"I hate being naked in the village," Grouchy said.
Tapper removed his headphones, realizing that his hearing is back to normal. "Praise the Almighty! I can sense in my spirit that everyone in the village is healed of this sensory issue problem."
"You smurfed it, laddie," Duncan said, removing his headphones. "I thought that this torment would smurf on forever."
"This one has sensed that it hasn't affected Dreamy, Tracker, or Clumsy, since those Smurfs are divergents," Polaris said.
"You can thank Laconia," Dreamy said. "She with her wand has healed Aspernion of his sensory problem with touch."
"THREE CHEERS FOR LACONIA!!! HURRAY!!!" the Smurfs cheered.
Laconia smiled, feeling a bit embarrassed for all the attention she was gaining. She signed something that the Smurfs understood.
"I'm glad that you're happy to help us, Laconia," Smurfette said. "You helped me when Gargamel smurfed us under his control with his Ghoulliope."
"I would suggest that we have a little celebration for the three Smurfs who helped us oversmurf our sensory issues, and also to our guests Laconia and Aspernion," Papa Smurf said.
"Oh boy, a party for us!" Clumsy said, sounding excited.
"I didn't think that our being divergents would ever be much of a help for our fellow Smurfs, Papa Smurf," Dreamy said.
"Every Smurf has something to offer to everyone in the village, Dreamy, including divergents," Papa Smurf said.
"Well, I'm certainly glad to be born a divergent," Tracker said.
"I hate being a divergent," Grouchy said.
-----
At the party, the Smurfs gathered around Clumsy, interested to know how he knew that he was a divergent, and Clumsy told them. They were all amazed, because they never thought in their minds that Clumsy would be a divergent. Some, however, didn't like the fact that Clumsy was a divergent, but they kept their opinions to themselves.
Empath and Smurfette talked with Clumsy after the other Smurfs have finished asking their questions. "So do you feel comfortable knowing that the other Smurfs know that you are a divergent, Clumsy?" Smurfette asked.
"I guess so, Smurfette, even if there are some who won't even smurf with me because of that," Clumsy answered.
"This smurf is certain they'll get used to it in time, Clumsy," Empath said. "You certainly did a brave thing helping your fellow divergents solving the problem of us coming down with sensory issues after healing Aspernion."
"Honestly I just don't know what I did," Clumsy said. "I'm not as smart as my fellow Smurfs, or even as other divergents."
"But you have the heart of a Smurf, Clumsy, and that's what matters," Smurfette said, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"Gosh, thanks, Smurfette," Clumsy said, feeling a little giddy after the kiss. "I surely appreciate that."
Just then, Brainy approached Clumsy. "Here, Clumsy, I want to smurf you one of my famous Quotations of Brainy Smurf books as a gift," Brainy said, handing him a book.
"Gee, thanks, Brainy," Clumsy said, opening the book and finding on the first page a written message: For Clumsy, my divergent friend forever. Love, Brainy. "I'll be sure to find the time to smurf your book."
"Ah, no rush in smurfing that, Clumsy," Brainy said. "Though I would be welcome to hear whatever comments you may smurf from reading it. It's one of my best editions ever."
"One of his best editions ever," Snappy said, overhearing the conversation. "Yeah, it's certainly cure for insomnia."
"I'd rather listen to The Wonderful Wizard Of Smurfs any day, or any night for that matter," Sassette said.
"Well, if Clumsy likes to read it, who are we to judge?" Nat said.
"I'm glad that Brainy's got a close friend to smurf onto," Slouchy said, smiling.
Tapper and Duncan both watch Aspernion twirl around while they were entertaining Laconia. "I'm glad that the Almighty had used you and Aspernion to heal us after we had healed him, Laconia," Tapper said.
Laconia smiled and signed something that both Tapper and Duncan understood.
"I'm glad you undersmurf the hearts of divergents better than we can, Laconia," Duncan said. "I wouldn't want to think what would happen if a divergent ever smurfed anything against us."
"Divergents are only beings with fleshly desires like the rest of us, Duncan," Tapper said. "We can't expect every divergent to act like a total saint around people."
"I know, there's no one righteous among us apart from the Almighty's Son," Duncan said. "I guess if we didn't have divergents that cared about us, we would end up smurfing at their mercy."
Laconia reached out and kissed both Tapper and Duncan on their foreheads to show her appreciation.
"You're very welcome, Laconia," Tapper said. "I hope that your married life with Woody continues to be a smurfy one."
Just then, Woody showed up. "Laconia, I just heard of what happened here in the village," Woody said. "If I showed up earlier, I would have been able to help in your situation."
Laconia took Woody by the arms, held his face close to hers, and the two of them kissed.
Duncan chuckled. "I think it's time we smurfed those two a bit of privacy to enjoy themselves, Tapper, my boy."
Tapper giggled. "I would agree myself, my friend."
Meanwhile, Tracker and Dreamy continued to watch Aspernion spin around. "How do you feel now that you are completely healed?" Dreamy asked.
"I feel like a new goblin, thanks to you Smurfs and Laconia," Aspernion said. "I don't think my words would be enough to express my gratitude. But I do apologize for what's happened to you Smurfs."
"Smurf nothing of it, my friend," Tracker said. "You're healed, and that's what matters. We're glad that you smurfed back with us to help heal us in return."
"I would never want to be like those evil goblins like Mystico," Aspernion said. "He cared too much about turning other beings into goblins like himself. I would never do something like that to anyone."
"Anonymous told us about Mystico, Aspernion," Dreamy said. "We'll be glad to smurf you as our friend."
"You really mean that?" Aspernion asked.
"Absosmurfly true, my friend," Tracker said. "A fellow divergent who cares about others is worthy of becoming a friend."
"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!" Aspernion shouted, jumping up and down and licking both Dreamy and Tracker in the face.
Dreamy chuckled. "Welcome to the world of divergents. There's always room for one more."
