Chapter 1
It was a brand new day in the Smurf Village. Smurfette woke up and stretched herself, feeling refreshed and ready to start the day. She looked out of her window and stared at the sun rising over the forest framing the Smurf Village. "Good morning to you, Smurf Village," she greeted pleasantly. Then she saw a couple of small birds landing on her windowsill. "And good morning to you too," she added, watching as they stayed for a while on the windowsill before flying off again. Smurfette sighed, realizing that she needed to get dressed. She changed out of her night clothes and put on a simple halter top and a pair of pink jeans. She liked how snug they fit on her body, almost like wearing a glove on her legs. She put on her pumps and then went to her mirror to examine herself. Taking a brush from off the dresser, she ran it through her hair to smooth it out. She wanted to make sure everything about her was perfect. Feeling like there was nothing out of place, Smurfette smiled at herself, and saw her reflection smiling back at her. She was pleased. She stepped out of her house to meet Sassette already there waiting for her. "Morning, Smurfette," Sassette greeted. "Good morning to you, Sassette," Smurfette greeted back, kissing the top of Sassette's head. "You seem to smurf in a good mood this morning, Smurfette," Sassette observed. "Is there anything going on with you today?" "Oh, nothing really special, Sassette," Smurfette responded. "I'm just happy to be alive and smurfing. I can't wait to see what I may be smurfing today." "Well, what if you have to smurf after Baby Smurf today?" Sassette asked. "Then I'll just accept that as my job for the day and smurf the best that I can with it," Smurfette answered. "Not that I don't like smurfing it, though." "I just wish that I can be smurfing after Baby Smurf so that you don't have to be stuck smurfing the job all the time," Sassette said. "I'm sure that you'll make a great babysmurfer, Sassette, but for now he needs to have someone with a more gentle adult touch," Smurfette said. "Well, if that's what you think," Sassette said. "Most of the adult Smurfs think that we Smurflings need more practice in order to handle smurfing after a Baby Smurf. I feel like I'm more than ready to smurf after him now, but I hardly hear Papa Smurf ever smurf that job to any of us." "Those Smurfs are just looking after Baby Smurf for his safety, Sassette," Smurfette said. "We don't want him smurfing into things that he's too young to be smurfing himself into." "But I promise that I won't let Baby Smurf smurf into things that he shouldn't, Smurfette, honestly," Sassette pleaded. Smurfette sighed. "We'll see how things smurf, Sassette, I promise." They met Empath at the end of the breakfast line. "Salutations, Smurfette, Sassette," he greeted. "Ready to start a brand new day?" "I will be, as soon as I smurf my breakfast, Empath," Smurfette responded. "Here, Smurfette and Sassette, you can go ahead of this smurf in the line," Empath offered. "It's going to be a while before we get served today." "Any problems today?" Smurfette asked. "Greedy and the kitchen crew have overslept today, so breakfast is going to be a little later than usual," Empath answered. "Whiskery weasels, I wouldn't think that it would be this bad," Sassette said. "Oh dear," Smurfette moaned. "This morning smurfed too good to be true. I just wish there was some way that I can help smurf things better in the kitchen." "This smurf gave up being the village chef, so we're going to have to tolerate the problems that Greedy and his crew are having this morning," Empath said. "If I had a genie like Farmer, I could probably smurf up things in the village like a snap," Smurfette said. "You want a genie, Smurfette?" Sassette said. "I could only wish that I had one of my own." "Farmer isn't particularly fond of his genie, as helpful as he is to Farmer, so maybe he could pass ownership onto you for a while," Empath said. "I wish, but Gourdy seems to like smurfing around with Farmer more than anyone else here, Empath," Smurfette said. "Maybe you could ask, Smurfette," Empath suggested. "It wouldn't hurt if you tried." "Well, if you had a genie, could you let it smurf anything that I would wish for?" Sassette asked Smurfette. "That remains to be seen, Sassette," Smurfette replied.
During breakfast, Tapper and Duncan McSmurf decided to sit down next to Empath and Smurfette to discuss what's going on that day. "I think that for today I'm going to smurf around the village and see what it's like to work in Empath's job as the assistant counselor," Smurfette said. "I'm sure that would be an interesting role for you, my dear Smurfette," Tapper said. "You might smurf some things about yourself that you never knew existed in you from smurfing that position." "I'm not sure that I would want to smurf myself as a counselor, even an assistant counselor," Duncan said. "I would probably smurf in too many fights with my fellow Smurfs than ever smurf the peace between anyone." "But you do smurf well with Hefty and Tuffy as a voice of reason to Hefty's roughness and Tuffy's brashness, my fellow Duncan," Tapper said. "You don't have to smurf with both of them at the same time from day to day, laddie," Duncan said. "I would just as sooner smurf their heads together in one single smurf if I wasn't in control of my temperament." "But you're better than that, Duncan," Smurfette said. "You make Hefty and Tuffy much better Smurfs because you always smurf up to them and never let them smurf over their heads." "I appreciate that from a lassie who knows a true Smurfsman when she smurfs one," Duncan said with a smile. "This smurf thinks Smurfette would be best paired with Sassette so that the both of them would know how to handle the job well," Empath said. "Well, I always say two smurfs are better than one," Tapper said. "It's your call what you want to smurf, and if Papa Smurf thinks that she's ready to smurf the job by herself, then I'm sure he'll smurf her the right tasks." "I'm pretty sure that I can handle the job quite smurfectly, Tapper, but I will smurf Sassette along so that she knows what this job is all about," Smurfette said. Just then, Hefty decided to sit himself down between Empath and Smurfette. "Oh, excuse me, mind if I smurf right next to you?" Hefty asked, feigning politeness. "Okay, Hefty, what's smurfed into you today?" Smurfette asked. "Well, since I noticed you talking with old star-face about smurfing over his position as the assistant counselor in this village, I was just wondering if you're available for any counseling sessions," Hefty said suggestively. "I'm not smurfing over anything today, Hefty," Smurfette said. "I'm just seeing what his job is like on a daily basis so I might know how to handle his tasks if I'm asked to." "Oh, so you're still going to be smurfing with this showoff, as usual," Hefty said. "Let's face facts, you deserve a real Smurf like me." "As a matter of fact, I may schedule you in for a counseling session...but it may also require you to undersmurf some rigorous mental assessment tests, if you know what I mean," Smurfette said, trying to get herself out of this conversation with Hefty. "Mental assessment tests?" Hefty said, sounding a little fearful. "Yes, and I might even have Brainy smurf in on them to examine your case to smurf if you might need constant supervision, and a prolonged smurf at the infirmary with some restraints and perhaps some medication...," Smurfette went on. "Uh, fine, smurf it your way!" Hefty said, picking up his tray and leaving the spot on the table. "Great Smurfiny Crickets, I didn't think you would be able to scare off somebody like Hefty with what you said, my dear Smurfette," Tapper said, sounding amazed. "That was masterfully smurfed." Duncan snickered. "Mental assessment tests. That's a good one, lassie." "Well, I'm sure a laddie like you can appreciate the talents of a lassie like me," Smurfette said with a smile.
After breakfast, Empath, Smurfette, and Sassette went out into Farmer's field to see how the village farmer was doing tending to his vegetable rows. Already in the field with him is Nat, Snappy, and Slouchy, and hovering right next to Farmer was his genie Gourdy, looking rather anxious. "Oh, Master, just tell me what you want me to do today, and I will do it for you, no questions asked," Gourdy said. "How about you just be smurfing nothing but watching me and not asking me ever again," Farmer said, already sounding annoyed. "But I can't just sit there and do nothing for you, Master," Gourdy said. "There's got to be something I can do, even the least little thing, that would please you the most today." "Why don't you just leave Farmer alone today, Gourdy?" Nat asked. "Yeah, you've already been smurfing him many more times today than I have been," Snappy said. "I would respond to your requests if you were my masters, little Smurflings, but I do not answer to any of you," Gourdy said rather defensively. "Well, how about the time that you smurfed me into the tallest Smurf in the village by making the other Smurfs ant-size?" Slouchy asked. "That was a one-time wish that I fulfilled on your behalf from my master," Gourdy said. "Until my master appoints either of you my new master, I'm not fulfilling any more of your wishes." "Just smurf there and try your best to do nothing today, Gourdy," Farmer said, already sounding tired of having to deal with him. "If you insist, Master, I will just sit here and do nothing," Gourdy said with a heavy sigh. "Don't mind me at all. I'll just be like a fly on the wall, quietly observing everything." "Oh, good, now even my ears have a relief," Snappy said. "Salutations, Farmer, Nat, Snappy, and Slouchy," Empath greeted. "So how goes the farming today out in the fields?" "Just be going smurfy today, Empath, and it would be going smurfier if I didn't have to smurf up with Gourdy," Farmer said. "He's smurfing a lot more noise than the Smurflings on any given day." "Well, he seems to be quiet now, Farmer," Smurfette said. "I'm only doing that to please my master, Smurfette," Gourdy said. "In fact, that's what I have been doing ever since he found me in his garden. It's hard to be a good genie when he doesn't even want his wishes granted." "That's really sad, Gourdy," Smurfette said, her heart going out to him. "I would wonder if you would be willing to serve me instead. I would smurf really good care of you." "I'm certain that you would, but unfortunately my loyalty and devotion is entirely to my master, Farmer Smurf, unless he directs me otherwise," Gourdy said. "But what good is that if your master doesn't want you to fulfill his wishes?" Smurfette asked. Gourdy sighed. "I don't know. I guess it's just because I haven't had a real friend to talk to, and I try to keep Farmer company the only way I know how. I guess I'm just not used to a master who doesn't want anything from me but my company." "This smurf doesn't see anything wrong with what Farmer wants, Gourdy," Empath said. "His job in the fields is already hard enough for him without having to put any additional stress on his life." "I'm glad that he tells me about those things, Empath, but I'm just not created to be a counselor," Gourdy said. "Nobody says you have to be his counselor, Gourdy," Empath said. "Sometimes the best thing you need to do is just sit and listen and not say anything unless you feel that it is absolutely necessary." "Anyway, Farmer, would you mind if I became Gourdy's new mistress, at least for a little while?" Smurfette asked. "Truth be told, Smurfette, I do be smurfing a bit fond of his company, and I would be feeling mighty empty without his presence around, even as annoying as he is at times," Farmer said. "You see? My master really does need me!" Gourdy said. Smurfette sighed. "Well, I guess if you're that smurfy, then you won't need me. I'll be smurfing on my way then. Let's go, Sassette." Farmer, Nat, Snappy, Slouchy, and Gourdy watched Empath, Smurfette, and Sassette leave the fields together. "Gee, I really hate to see Smurfette leave all sad and upset now," Snappy said. "Me too, but what are you going to do about it?" Slouchy said. "Maybe we can wish that Smurfette would be able to smurf her own genie," Nat suggested. "You know, that isn't a bad thing to wish for Smurfette, smurf to think about it," Farmer said, his hand stroking his chin in thought. "Oh no, you wouldn't want another genie around in this village!" Gourdy said, sounding a bit fearful. "But why not, Gourdy?" Slouchy asked. "Yeah, why not?" Snappy seconded. "Trust me, one genie like me is all this village ever needs," Gourdy said. "Two genies occupying the same location...that is just bad news! You don't know what kind of trouble you'll be putting yourselves in!" "Well, I didn't say you need to be fulfilling that wish there, Gourdy," Farmer said. "I'm just saying that..." "And I'm saying for your safety and everyone else's that two genies can't stay in the same village together, and that's that!" Gourdy said. "Well, Gourdy, I wish for you to return to my house and smurf there until I need you," Farmer said. "Yes, my master," Gourdy said, sounding like he had no choice but to fulfill that wish. He waved his hands in the air and said, "Casabah cadodah!" And in an instant, he was gone.
"Well, this smurf empathizes for what you're feeling right now, Smurfette, if Farmer has grown to be attached to his companion," Empath said as they were heading elsewhere within the outskirts of the village. "I'll be fine, Empath," Smurfette said. "I guess being an assistant counselor isn't going to be as easy as I smurfed it would be." "Well, I think you need to smurf yourself a chance, Smurfette," Sassette said. "One smurfback shouldn't make you feel like you should give up being one." "I know, but what if most Smurfs just want me to not be the assistant counselor?" Smurfette asked. "This smurf thinks you should take Sassette's advice to heart and not be so hard on yourself for one little failure," Empath said. "Over time they're going to get used to you, and you won't have to feel like you have nothing to offer." "I'm glad that you smurf that way about me, Empath," Smurfette said. They soon came across Brainy, who was with a few Smurfs lecturing to them about whatever was on his mind at the moment. "Ah, Empath, just the Smurf I was hoping to see," Brainy said as soon as he saw his half-brother. "What were you trying to tell the other Smurfs about, Brainy?" Empath asked. "Well, it was about the idea of how males and females can smurf tasks around the village, Empath," Brainy answered. "I was saying that males have their own jobs that are uniquely smurfed to them, and that females have their own jobs that are uniquely smurfed to them, and one of them was saying that males and females should be able to smurf all kinds of tasks as equals. Now I just want to smurf your opinion as to what you personally believe." "If I should be allowed to offer my opinion, Brainy,..." Smurfette started to say. "Excuse me, Smurfette, I wasn't asking for your opinion at this time," Brainy interrupted. "But Smurfette may have a valid point that she would want to bring up, Brainy," Empath said. "Why would you not want her to speak her mind?" "Empath, I didn't smurf you into this conversation just to hear what Smurfette has to say," Brainy said. "I wanted specifically to hear from you, one of the wisest Smurfs in the village who is second only to Papa Smurf in wisdom." "Well, if you don't want to hear my opinion, Brainy, then I'll just leave!" Smurfette fumed as she stormed off. "Yeah, me too!" Sassette added before she joined Smurfette. Empath watched Smurfette and Sassette walk off together before turning his attention again to Brainy. "That was very inconsiderate of you, Brainy," Empath said a bit sternly. "Smurfette has an opinion, and you think very lowly of her and her opinion, and you have the audacity to say it right in her presence." "Oh, come on, Empath," Brainy said. "You know that Smurfette is good for the few things that she can smurf around here, like smurfing care of Baby and the Smurflings. I never really consider her to be the most intelligent Smurf in the whole village...not that I think she's completely lacking in intelligence like Clumsy." "You won't know what Smurfette is fully capable of unless you give her the chance to prove herself, Brainy," Empath said. "Being a female does not mean that her intelligence is any less equal to any Smurf in the village. Who knows, she may prove to be just as intelligent as you, even more so." "Of course you're going to smurf her as intelligent because you're mostly with her all the time, Empath," Brainy said. "What chance have I ever to smurf her attention my way to see that I'm just as good as you are for wisdom and intelligence, despite some other things that I may be lacking?" Empath sighed. "What Smurfette and this smurf have going on between each other is strictly our business to know about, Brainy. This smurf is not going to let you or anyone else use that as a point of argument for what you would have to say about Smurfette as a person. Is this smurf being clear on that point?" "If you insist, Empath, I am not going to smurf up anything about your relationship with Smurfette just to smurf a point," Brainy said, realizing that he wasn't going to win against his own half-brother. "All I will ask you for is to just smurf an open mind about what I may have to smurf to you." "At least that's something you and this smurf can agree upon," Empath said, smiling.

Chapter 2
Smurfette and Sassette walked off into the forest together, with Smurfette feeling as if her whole day was ruined by Brainy's insensitivity. She wished she could do something to get Brainy to stop acting like the world has to listen to him all the time and instead get him to listen to her for a change. "That Brainy Smurf is just so rude, Smurfette," Sassette said finally after a long silence. "I know he is, Sassette," Smurfette said. "I really wish I can straighten him out once and for all, but that just smurfs to be impossible." "Maybe if you had a genie like Gourdy, you might just smurf your wish to come true," Sassette said. "But where am I going to find a genie of my own?" Smurfette asked. "I don't know," Sassette answered. "It's not like we're going to smurf across a gourd in the ground like we did when me and Farmer had..." Then suddenly Sassette fell as she tripped over something. "Sassette, are you all right?" Smurfette asked. "I'm fine, Smurfette," Sassette said when she picked herself up from the ground. "But what did I just smurf over?" Smurfette looked near the spot where Sassette was standing and saw the object in question. "It looks just like a perfume bottle, Sassette," Smurfette said. "Oooh, a perfume bottle!" Sassette said, sounding excited. "Can we open it to see what it smurfs like, if it still has perfume in it?" Smurfette examined the bottle and read its label. "Perfuma Performa. Never heard of that kind of perfume before. Maybe we should take it back to the village and have Papa Smurf examine it." "Oh, come on, please, Smurfette," Sassette begged. "I want to see just what is inside the perfume bottle." Smurfette sighed. "Okay, maybe we should just open it to see what it smurfs like." She pulled the top off the bottle and a pink mist came swirling out of the mouth of the bottle. "Mmmm, that perfume just smells so smurfy." "Yeah, and it's so strong," Sassette added as she took a sniff. Then suddenly a small female figure with pink hair and Arabian-style clothes had appeared from within the pink mist. "Oh, hurray! I'm finally free!" she shouted in excited jubilation. "Thank you, kind mistress, for opening my bottle. I feel like I've been cooped up in there for ages." "Excuse me, but who are you?" Smurfette asked, sounding curious. "I'm Ghinelle, the girl genie, and that perfume bottle happens to be my home," the female explained. "I can grant you all sorts of wishes, any number of wishes that you want, but I must warn you, my magic can have unpredictable side effects, so be careful what you ask for." "You're a genie?" Sassette said, sounding amazed. "Giggling giraffes, I've never heard of a girl genie before." "You haven't?" Ghinelle said. "Well, now you have met one, and since this lovely lady has freed me from my bottle, she gets to have whatever she wishes for, all by my saying the magic words on the bottle itself." "Perfuma performa?" Smurfette asked, as she reread the bottle's label again. "That's it, sweetie," Ghinelle said. "So what is it that you wish for? Name your greatest heart's desire, and I will fulfill it, or at least I will try to anyway." "Well, I'm not sure what I would start to ask for, Ghinelle," Smurfette replied. "You see, I am only one female adult Smurf in a village full of 100 male adult Smurfs." "Oooh, you're a lucky girl!" Ghinelle said. "That means you have a lot of eligible young bachelors to choose from as your future bridegroom." "Yeah, but there's only one that Smurfette really likes among them, and his name is Empath, Ghinelle," Sassette said. "Empath?" Ghinelle said. "I'd like to meet him. He must really be special to you, mistress." "But most of the other Smurfs just aren't interested in me the way Empath is, Ghinelle," Smurfette said. "All I'm after is wanting to be respected for who I am and not just what I am, and I don't smurf that from most of my fellow Smurfs." "So it's respect that you want," Ghinelle said. "I'm sure that I can fix that with a simple wave of my hands. You'll be having every Smurf in the village eating out of your hand when I'm finished." "Wow, like literally every Smurf eating out of Smurfette's hand?" Sassette asked, sounding amazed. "Like even Pappy Smurf?" "Let's smurf with something small to begin with," Smurfette said. "I've asked Handy if he could smurf over and renovate my place to make it smurf more up to date, but I'm wondering if you could smurf a much better job than he could." "So you want your home to be a palace?" Ghinelle said. "No problem. With just a wave of my hands, it's done." She waved her hands and said, "Perfuma performa!", and a pink mist emanated from her hands. "Dancing daffodils, you even make a perfume scent when you smurf your magic, Ghinelle," Sassette said. "That's what you get when you have me as a genie, kiddo," Ghinelle said. "So are you going to show me to your friends and see what they think of me, mistress?" "Personally, I would rather keep you as our little secret until I think the other Smurfs are ready to know about you, Ghinelle," Smurfette said. "So right now I wish you to return to your bottle." Ghinelle sighed. "Well, okay, mistress, but remember, I'll be there for you if you ever need me. Perfuma performa!" She waved her hands again and then suddenly disappeared from sight. "She's certainly a strange-smurfing genie, but at least she's ours, Smurfette," Sassette said. "Let's return to the village, Sassette," Smurfette said. "If we need to talk to Ghinelle again, we at least smurf her in this perfume bottle." She closed the bottle back up and headed back to the village.
Meanwhile, in the Smurf Village, Polaris Psyche was talking to Handy about what he was planning to do soon. "Smurfette has called me to smurf around her house to see if I could smurf some renovations to make her house more modern in style," Handy said. "And just how long do you plan to be working in her house to make the renovations, Handy?" Polaris asked. "It should take no more than a few days, Polaris," Handy answered. "Why do you ask?" "This one is merely asking for safety concerns, and to make sure that Smurfette has other arrangements for where she might need to take temporary residence during the renovations, Handy," Polaris said. "Last I heard, Vanity has offered to smurf some room for her at his house, given that his interests are mostly in his own beauty smurfments, but Papa Smurf hasn't finalized the arrangements," Handy said. "Nevertheless, this one may advise caution in regards to male and female cohabitation if this project is going to last much longer than its intended duration," Polaris said. "I doubt that Vanity and Smurfette will have a problem...," Handy began to say when his nose suddenly caught a whiff of something in the air. "Say, where did that strange perfume smell smurf from?" Polaris also detected it. "This one is uncertain of this particular scent's origin, Handy." Then suddenly Handy heard a knocking on his door. He opened it and found that it was Carpenter. "Handy, you've got to smurf quickly with me and smurf this!" he said with a note of urgency. "What's the matter, Carpenter?" Handy asked. "Smurfette's house," Carpenter answered. "Something just smurfed the place of it, and I think you need to smurf it for yourself." Handy and Polaris looked at each other. "This one has a sense that this unknown scent and whatever has happened to Smurfette's house is no mere coincidence, Handy," Polaris said. "Whatever has happened, it's certainly worth smurfing out," Handy said as they both followed Carpenter.
Smurfette and Sassette both returned to the village to find that a small crowd of Smurfs have gathered around the location of Smurfette's house. Empath met the two as they approached. "Thank the Ancestors you're here, Smurfette," Empath said. "This smurf isn't sure what happened, but something has just taken the place of your house." "My house? What do you mean, Empath?" Smurfette asked, sounding puzzled. "Maybe you should take a look for yourself," Empath said as he led her and Sassette through the crowd to get a better look. Smurfette and Sassette both looked and were amazed beyond measure. The once simple feminine look of Smurfette's humble mushroom house was replaced by a more grandiose palace that was adorned in pink and white marble, with towers on both the left and right side. "Oh my smurfness!" Smurfette exclaimed. "That isn't what I had wished for at all!" "What do you mean, you wished for it?" one of the Smurfs in the crowd asked. Smurfette didn't know how to answer. "Uh...I'll explain later," she said as she and Sassette walked up the steps to her new residence. Inside, everything looked like it was made for an Arabian princess, with couches and tables and chandeliers and all the furnishings of royalty that would make her the envy of all the Smurfs in the village. "Wow, Ghinelle really smurfed your place into a palace after all," Sassette said as she stood there and took in everything she saw. "This is just too much for me," Smurfette said, sounding a bit displeased. She opened up the perfume bottle and Ghinelle popped out again. "Oh, so this is your house...or at least it was before I turned it into a palace," Ghinelle said after she looked around at it. "So what do you think?" "Ghinelle, this isn't exactly the wish that I wanted!" Smurfette said, sounding upset. "I did warn you that my magic has unpredictable side effects, mistress, so you got to be careful of what you wish for," Ghinelle said. "But since you're here anyway, why don't you try it out for yourself and see what you think!" "Yeah, why don't we, Smurfette?" Sassette said, sounding a bit eager. "It's not every day that you get to smurf in a palace like this!" Smurfette sighed. "Well, okay, just this once! Ghinelle, can you find us a comfortable seat for us to smurf in?" "Your wish is my command, mistress!" Ghinelle said, sounding eager. She waved her hands and said, "Perfuma performa!", and instantly Smurfette and Sassette were both transported onto a couch together, lying back against a pile of pillows. "Oh, this makes me feel like a little princess," Sassette said as she got comfortable lying back on the pillows. "I could only imagine what the other Smurflings would think of me smurfing like this." "I don't feel altogether comfortable smurfing like a queen over my fellow Smurfs, Sassette," Smurfette said. "Ah, come on, Smurfette," Sassette said. "Isn't there anything you would wish to happen now that you have a genie at your disposal?" "Anything?" Smurfette said to herself. Then a smirk appeared on her face as she just thought of something.
Papa Smurf came onto the scene to see what was going on around the location of Smurfette's house. "Empath, Polaris, what's smurfing on here?" he asked. "It's Smurfette's house, Papa Smurf," Empath said. "Some kind of magical palace just took the place of her house, and Smurfette and Sassette went inside to look." "And neither of them have returned outside since they have entered, Papa Smurf," Polaris added. "Hmmm, there's something strange about this palace that looks like it was smurfed here by a genie," Papa Smurf said, stroking his beard while staring at the new structure. "Empath, maybe you should smurf Farmer if Gourdy has..." Then suddenly Empath magically disappeared right before Papa Smurf's eyes. "Great Ancestors!" Polaris exclaimed. "Whatever has caused this palace to appear out of nowhere has also transported Empath to somewhere." "Then you go smurf Farmer about what Gourdy may be smurfing, Polaris," Papa Smurf said. "It's time that I smurf into this little matter myself."
Meanwhile, Empath found himself transported out of his own clothes and appearing in the form of an Arabian-style servant, dressed in revealing clothes and carrying a plate full of fruit. "Great Ancestors, where am I, and what has happened?" Empath asked as he looked around. "Oh, hello there, Empath," a familiar female voice spoke to him in a suggestive manner. Empath saw who that voice belonged to, sitting on a couch with a pile of pillows behind her. "Smurfette! What are you doing here?" he asked. "Welcome to my new home," Smurfette replied. "And by the way, you really look good smurfing as my humble servant." Empath felt plenty embarrassed. "Smurfette, this is ridiculous. Where did you get this new house, and how did you get this smurf into these clothes and carrying a plate of fruit?" "I'm the one who brought you here, courtesy of my mistress Smurfette," another female voice spoke. Empath turned and saw Ghinelle standing there, looking proud of what she has done. "What did you do to Smurfette?" Empath asked, sounding a bit angry. "Did you manipulate her in some way to do this?" "I did nothing of the sort," Ghinelle answered. "Smurfette freed me, and I'm now her genie, and I will fulfill whatever wishes she wants of me." "Oh, come on, Empath, don't smurf so upset," Smurfette said. "I didn't mean to hurt you by having you smurf up in this manner." "Well, this smurf isn't going to leave until Ghinelle gives this smurf back my old clothes, the ones this smurf was originally wearing," Empath said. "Uh, there's just one little problem with that wish," Ghinelle said. "As I said to my mistress, my magic may have unpredictable side effects, so..." "You mean to tell this smurf that you destroyed my clothes?" Empath said, sounding really upset. "Well, that does it! This smurf is going straight to Papa Smurf and..." Just then, Papa Smurf emerged into the palace. "Great Smurfs of Fire, just what is smurfing on around here, Smurfette?" he demanded after looking around. Smurfette sighed. "I think it's time that we told Papa Smurf about Ghinelle, Sassette." "It was fun while it lasted, Smurfette," Sassette said, sounding disappointed.

Chapter 3
Just then Farmer and the boy Smurflings were coming in from the fields. "Well, you boys certainly do be much of a help today," Farmer said. "What say that you be smurfing out in the fields tomorrow with me?" "Ugh! Not on your life, Farmer!" Snappy said. "Actually, I don't mind smurfing in the soil all day," Slouchy said. "Why isn't Sassette helping you out lately, Farmer?" Nat asked. "Who knows what be smurfing on in a young mind like hers?" Farmer said. "She's still a girl Smurf at heart. Maybe she wants to be learning from Smurfette how a Smurfette should be smurfing her life." "What if there was a girl Smurf for you to be interested in, Farmer?" Nat asked. "Yeah, not if we know that such a girl Smurf exists, but let's say she may be interested in helping you smurf the fields," Slouchy said. "It couldn't hurt you to smurf such a companion now, would it?" Snappy asked. "That's entirely up to Mother Nature to reveal that to me, if that's what she's smurfed for my life other than being a Farmer, my young Smurflings," Farmer answered with a fond chuckle. Just then Polaris appeared. "Fellow Farmer, this one needs to inquire about where you have been for the past several hours," he said. "What, me?" Farmer said, astounded. "Is there any trouble that I do be accused for or something?" "Recently there was an incident involving Smurfette's house being replaced by a palace, and this one senses that there is a magical force at work," Polaris said. "Hey, wait a minute!" Snappy objected. "You're not thinking that Gourdy has something to smurf with this, are you?" "Farmer smurfed him home some time ago, and he hasn't been smurfed from there ever since," Nat reported. "Maybe Gourdy just smurfed impatient waiting for Farmer, who knows," Slouchy said. "I'm sure that's what Gourdy be smurfing when I smurfed him home, just nothing, Polaris," Farmer said. "But I would be glad to ask him if he knows anything about this." "That would be advisable, Farmer," Polaris said. "If something is going on with Gourdy and his magical powers, we want to make sure that it stops right here and now. You should contact this one as soon as possible when you find out." Farmer and the boy Smurflings watched as Polaris left the edge of the fields. "Well, what do you know?" Snappy said. "Perhaps Gourdy has truly gone rogue on us for not being used by Farmer for his magic." "But why would he smurf that, Snappy?" Nat asked. "He's usually pretty faithful in obeying his master." "Do you think that some Smurf brought another genie into the village, Farmer?" Slouchy asked. "I do be not sure wanting to find that out, if smurfing two genies into the same location is really bad news for us as Gourdy do be saying," Farmer said.
Meanwhile, inside his house, Papa Smurf was having a private conversation with Smurfette and Sassette about the genie they found. Empath, now changed back into his regular clothes, stood by and listened. "We just found this genie in a perfume bottle out in the forest, Pappy," Sassette said. "She said that she would give us, or rather just Smurfette, any number of wishes that she wants. Smurfette just wished for a better place for herself, and that's how her house had now smurfed into a palace." "But that isn't exactly what I wanted, Papa Smurf," Smurfette said. "And Ghinelle did smurf that her magic powers have unpredictable side effects." "I see," Papa Smurf said. "Apparently curiosity has smurfed the better with the two of you, and you decided to find out what was in the bottle without smurfing it to me first." "We didn't mean to harm any Smurf, much less Empath with Smurfette's wish, Pappy," Sassette said. "We just wanted to try out another wish, and that's how Empath came to be smurfing in those servant clothes." "This smurf understands and accepts your apologies," Empath said. "It's just that this smurf wasn't expecting for that to happen in such a matter as it did happen a short while ago." "But now that I have a genie, Papa Smurf, can I at least keep her in my house?" Smurfette asked. "I promise that I will smurf good care of her, and I will make sure that she doesn't smurf any other problems while she's with me." Papa Smurf stroked his beard in deep thought. Then he said, "Since I know that I can trust you with the care of such small beings, Smurfette, I will let you smurf Ghinelle in your house, as long as she smurfs put in your house and doesn't smurf out of it to cause trouble." "Then do we get to keep Smurfette's house the way that it is now, Pappy?" Sassette asked. "That is entirely up to Smurfette, since Ghinelle is her genie, Sassette," Papa Smurf said. Smurfette sighed. "As much as I like smurfing in a palace, I would rather smurf my house back to the way it was before Ghinelle changed it, Sassette. We might as well smurf with the genie to get her to smurf things to the way they were." "Well, okay, Smurfette, but that palace really looked smurfy," Sassette said. Empath and Papa Smurf watched as Smurfette and Sassette left together. "Not that this smurf doesn't wish for Smurfette to have her own genie or anything, Papa Smurf, but this smurf does have misgivings about bringing another genie into our village," Empath said. "Why do you smurf that, Empath?" Papa Smurf asked. "Ghinelle did say that her magic powers have unpredictable side effects, Papa Smurf, and this smurf does believe she is telling the truth, even if we don't know how we might interpret what she is saying," Empath said. "We just simply have to be careful and vigilant, as I hope Smurfette will be when she smurfs with her genie, Empath," Papa Smurf said. "For now, we'll let Smurfette enjoy the privilege of smurfing such a small being into her life and try not to smurf a big deal over it." "This smurf understands and acknowledges, Papa Smurf," Empath said.
After Smurfette's house was restored to normal, Smurfette had a personal talk with Ghinelle while Sassette was present. "You don't want me to use my powers to help you do anything?" Ghinelle said, after hearing from her mistress. "But all I want to do is just please you with whatever your heart desires." "I just want you to be careful with the use of your powers, Ghinelle," Smurfette said. "Papa Smurf is concerned about you and how unpredictable the effects of your magic can be." "Yeah, we don't want to smurf any sort of disaster in this village," Sassette said. Ghinelle sighed. "All right, mistress, you win. At least you are aware of what I have warned you about with my powers. But you were pleased with what I did with your boyfriend Empath, weren't you?" "I did find it amusing, Ghinelle, even if Empath didn't," Smurfette said. "So when do I get to meet the rest of the Smurfs in your village, mistress?" Ghinelle asked. "That's another thing I want to bring up, Ghinelle," Smurfette said. "Papa Smurf wants me to keep you smurfed in my house so that you don't cause trouble to my fellow Smurfs." "Yeah, they're not too fond of genies unless they smurf them what they wish for anyway," Sassette said. "That's a big bummer," Ghinelle said. "I really would like to meet all these Smurfs who are so enamored with you. If Empath is truly something for a girl to feast her eyes on, I would be in for a grand buffet with all your other friends." "Well, they're all pretty smurfy to look at, especially the strong Smurfs like Hefty and Duncan McSmurf," Smurfette said. "Yeah, even I can't smurf my eyes off them...except for Hefty, Handy, and Grouchy, because those are my brothers," Sassette said. Just then, there was a knocking on Smurfette's door. "Hello, Smurfette," the voice on the other side of the door spoke. "It's me, Brainy Smurf." Smurfette sighed. "Oh dear, it's Brainy again. Ghinelle, I wish you to return to the bottle until I need you again." "As you wish, my mistress," Ghinelle said, acquiescing. "Perfuma performa!" She waved her hands again and then disappeared. Smurfette answered the door. "Okay, what is it that you want, Brainy? To apologize for how you treated me some time ago with Empath?" "Oh, it's nothing of that sort, Smurfette," Brainy said. "I just heard rumors that you might possibly have a genie in your house, and I would certainly like to meet him." "Actually, it's a her, Brainy," Sassette started to say before Smurfette covered her mouth. "A genie? What makes you think that I would smurf a genie with me, Brainy?" Smurfette asked, trying to keep him from finding out anything more. "Oh, just the fact that where your house was smurfing originally some time ago, there was instead a beautiful palace that looked like it was smurfed for a princess," Brainy said. "There's no shame in you admitting that you're smurfing something special with you in your house. I'm just curious to know exactly what it is so that I might be of some assistance." "Brainy Smurf, you got to stop believing what other Smurfs are saying, if it's just smurfless rumors that are smurfing around," Smurfette said. "But you having a genie...that's just too smurfy to be true!" Brainy said. "Sooner or later, the other Smurfs are going to find out anyway, and I would like to make sure you would be properly smurfed for and protected while others may smurf you to have their wishes fulfilled. And who knows, maybe in return, your genie can smurf me some of my wishes, if you know what I mean." Smurfette rolled her eyes. "Brainy Smurf, you're the last Smurf that I would want to think of smurfing anything romantically with, so smurf that out of your mind right now." Meanwhile, unknowingly behind Smurfette and Sassette's backs, Ghinelle just quietly reemerged from her bottle, listening in on the conversation between Smurfette and Brainy. "Oh, please, Smurfette, that isn't what I was smurfing in mind...at least not yet anyway," Brainy said. "All I want is to be the most respected Smurf in all the village, and that Smurfs everywhere would smurf to me for my knowledge and wisdom so that Empath and Papa Smurf would not have to be smurfed all day for theirs. It's just a simple humble request, and I would be grateful if you would let that wish to be smurfed true through your personal magical means." "Well, Brainy, if I did have a genie, I would wish that your mouth would be smurfed shut for all time to come and that nobody would ever hear what you have to smurf," Smurfette said. "Oooh, sounds like a good wish to make true," Ghinelle said quietly to herself. She then waved her hands in the air and said, "Perfuma performa!" "If that's the way you smurf about...," Brainy started to say before he found that his lips couldn't move and that he couldn't open his mouth for anything. He also couldn't make a single sound from his throat, which made him even more frustrated. He decided that he would go seek Papa Smurf and ran off in complete terror. "Whispering willows, Smurfette, I never thought I would smurf Brainy not be able to smurf anything," Sassette said, sounding amused. Smurfette sighed, realizing something. She turned around and saw that Ghinelle was out of her bottle and snickering to herself. "Was that a good wish that I granted for you, my mistress?" Ghinelle asked. "Ghinelle, you should have stayed in your bottle like I asked you to," Smurfette said a bit sternly. "That was inconsiderate what you smurfed to Brainy, and you smurfed it without my permission." "But you made a wish, and I granted it, so that's how it works," Ghinelle said. "What harm could possibly happen if that loudmouth couldn't speak anymore?" "He's still my friend, Ghinelle, even if I can't stand smurfing around him at all times," Smurfette said. "I wish that you would smurf him back the way he was right now." "All right, mistress, it's as good as done," Ghinelle said. "Perfuma performa!"
Tapper, Hefty, and Duncan were in a discussion with each other when Brainy suddenly ran into them on his way to Papa Smurf's house. "Great Smurfiny Crickets, my fellow Brainy, what is smurfing on with you today?" Tapper asked. "Yeah, and why do you smell like strong perfume right now?" Hefty added. "Strong perfume?" Brainy said, now realizing that his lips were now unsealed and that his voice returned and he could talk normally again. "Smurfs, I think it's important for me to tell you that I think Smurfette has a genie in her house." "A genie in her house? That lassie?" Duncan said in disbelief. "Surely you're just making this up to explain why you smurf of strong perfume just now, Brainy," Hefty said. "No, I'm not making this up, Hefty!" Brainy said vehemently. "While I was there, something magicked me so that I couldn't talk or even utter a single noise from my smurf. Then, when I was running to Papa Smurf and I smurfed into you, my voice returned to me and I could speak again." "Somehow I could smurf in my spirit that you are telling the truth, Brainy," Tapper said. "Perhaps it's best for us to discreetly discover just what it is Smurfette has in her house so we would know what to do." "Better yet, why don't we just smurf close to her windows and try to smurf a peek at what it is Smurfette is smurfing?" Hefty suggested. "My thoughts exactly, Hefty," Brainy said. "Hold on for a minute there, laddies," Duncan said. "Eavesmurfing on the lassie like that is rather rude and inconsiderate of her privacy." "I would agree with my friend here," Tapper said. "Discretion is always the smurfier part of valor if we want to know the truth." "Well, you two can smurf it out how you want to, but I'm going to smurf back with Brainy over to her house and see if we can smurf anything," Hefty said. Tapper and Duncan watched as Brainy and Hefty both headed off to Smurfette's house. "Well, we can't say that we didn't try to warn them, my boy," Duncan said. "I can only pray that whatever Smurfette has in her house will not be smurfing too much trouble while it's there," Tapper said.
When Hefty and Brainy got close to Smurfette's house, they could see pink mists coming through the chimney and also smell the scent of strong perfume. "Whatever Smurfette's got in there, it's certainly smurfing a lot like she's smurfing in a tub of perfume," Hefty said. "That must be whatever she has in her house, Hefty," Brainy said. "Let's smurf close to one of her windows to get a smurf." Hefty and Brainy found a window that was close enough to look into Smurfette's house without hopefully getting noticed. There they could see Smurfette and Sassette together with a small female figure wearing pink hair and Arabian-style clothes. She waved her hands in the air and everything within Smurfette's house changed, looking like it had just gone through a remodeling. "That's just even more smurfy than what I was planning to have Handy smurf with my house, Ghinelle," Smurfette said. "I'm glad that I have pleased you, my mistress," Ghinelle said. "Although I sure would like to meet Handy sometime soon, if you would invite him over." "Can I invite the other Smurflings over, Smurfette? Can I?" Sassette asked, sounding eager. "I would be careful with smurfing such information about Ghinelle, Sassette," Smurfette warned. "If every Smurf knew about him, I would never smurf any peace, as they would be bothering me all day with their wish requests." "But at least they would be smurfing you respect, Smurfette," Sassette said. "That's what you want, isn't it?" "I would rather smurf respect from them without having it be just because I have a genie to fulfill anyone's wishes with, Sassette," Smurfette said. Hefty and Brainy then turned away from the window to keep themselves unnoticed. "Well, we have our answer there, Brainy," Hefty said. "Smurfette does smurf to have a genie of her very own." "But Smurfette doesn't want anyone else to know about her, Hefty," Brainy said. "So how are we going to deal with this?" "You just leave it to me, Brainy," Hefty said. "I know how to talk to her."

Chapter 4
Meanwhile, in Farmer's house, Farmer came home to find Gourdy acting like he has gone stir crazy. "Oh no! What am I going to do? What am I going to do?" he said, zooming around the room so many times that it was making Farmer all dizzy just watching him. "Sweet mother of Smurf, Gourdy, what's be gotten into you all of a sudden?" Farmer asked, sounding concerned. "Master, I could feel it!" Gourdy cried out. "It's the presence of another genie in this village! We're doomed! We have to stop it!" "Another genie in this village? Smurfs sake, how can you know about it?" Farmer asked. "Us genies can know whether there is another genie nearby, and I can sense that this is the spirit of a girl genie, who is usually trouble for whoever finds one," Gourdy said. "Girl genies are trouble?" Farmer said, sounding confused. "I'm afraid that I just don't quite understand you there." "Boy genies and girl genies are created for different purposes by the Great Spirit, master," Gourdy said. "But some girl genies want to be so much like boy genies that they would act against their own purpose and design as genies, and that's where there would be trouble." "Maybe you be smurfing things a bit too seriously there, Gourdy," Farmer said. "What if this genie is just simply there to help someone else, to be their companion? Why would you think that it's wrong for a girl genie to smurf that?" "Girl genies are not supposed to fulfill wishes, master!" Gourdy said. "That just upsets the balance of spiritual magic between genies. What if I can't grant you anymore wishes because of what this girl genie does?" "I wouldn't smurf you out of here simply because you be not smurfing me anymore wishes," Farmer said. "After all, I'm just a simple Smurf with simple needs." "We've got to find out who's got a genie in the village and put a stop to it, master!" Gourdy said. "It's urgent, or else who knows what could possibly happen?" Farmer sighed. "If it makes so feel smurfy, then I will help you find out."
Later on in the evening, as the Smurfs have gathered around at Tapper's Tavern, Smurfette was sitting at the counter with her drink order, feeling uncertain about herself. Tapper noticed the expression on her face and decided to talk to her about it. "My dear Smurfette, what seems to be smurfing on your mind this evening?" Tapper asked. "I was just thinking about something that me and Sassette have discovered out in the forest today, Tapper, and it makes me feel so excited and yet so ashamed about smurfing it," Smurfette answered. "This wouldn't happen to be something like a genie, similar to the one that Farmer had found some time ago?" Tapper asked. "Huh? Uh, no, it wouldn't be, Tapper," Smurfette answered defensively. "Why would you think it would?" Tapper chuckled at Smurfette's response. "You don't have to hide it from me, Smurfette, because I sense in my spirit that what you found is something of a magical nature. I could only smurf for you to exercise a bit of caution over what you may be smurfing with you that is of that sort, because you don't know where that thing may have originated from." "But what if I want to smurf any wishes with it?" Smurfette asked. "Should I feel ashamed of smurfing something no other Smurf has just to satisfy my desires?" "You must think about whether what you wish for will make you smurfy in the long run, Smurfette, or is it just there to make you feel smurfy for a short while before your heart desires something else," Tapper said. "I'm afraid if every Smurf knows what I have, they're going to hound me all day and night just to have their wishes smurf true," Smurfette said. "I'm not sure what I would suggest for you, Smurfette," Tapper said. "I wouldn't want to see you bothered constantly for the wonderful blessing you have, nor would I want you to keep it so hidden under smurfs that it makes everybody wonder about you. All I can say is, you must decide for yourself which is important." "Well, if you must know, Tapper, her name is Ghinelle, and she is a genie," Smurfette said, speaking low enough for only Tapper to hear. "Oh, I see," Tapper said, understanding. "So what do you plan to smurf with her?" "I don't know, Tapper," Smurfette said. "I do like having her around, but I'm afraid that she might smurf me more trouble than she's worth." "I'm sure you'll be able to handle her and smurf over her so that she wouldn't be too much for you to smurf on as her guardian, Smurfette," Tapper said. "Evening, Smurfette," another voice broke in. Smurfette turned and saw that it was Hefty, arriving with a bouquet of flowers. "You surely smurf lovely this evening. Mind if I smurf next to you?" "Uh, no, not at all, Hefty," Smurfette said, receiving the bouquet from Hefty's hand. "You know my drink order, Tapper...a big glass of Vita-Juice," Hefty said. "Aye, smurfing right up there, Hefty," Tapper said as he went to get a glass. Smurfette looked at Hefty. "So what's with you being so nice to me this evening, Hefty?" Smurfette asked. "Oh, nothing, just the wonderful scent of perfume that's been smurfing my nose from your house today," Hefty said. "I could only wonder where it's smurfing from." "Oh, that scent?" Smurfette said. "Well, it's a special one called Perfuma Performa. I discovered it out in the forest today with Sassette. Do you like it?" "It's nice, though it does smurf off as a bit strong for me," Hefty said. "You might say that there's something...enchanting about it." "Enchanting?" Smurfette said, sounding puzzled. "Okay, Hefty, exactly what are you smurfing at here?" Hefty sighed, realizing that he's going to have to break it to her. "Me and Brainy know that you're smurfing a genie in your house today," he said, speaking very low. "And something tells me that you want to smurf this your little secret and Sassette's." "Yeah, so?" Smurfette said, wondering. "So I want to help keep this thing a secret...just between you, me, Brainy, and Sassette," Hefty said. "What say that we smurf out of here and smurf somewhere a bit more private near the outskirts of the forest?" "You're trying to smurf favors from me so you wouldn't smurf to the other Smurfs about my genie," Smurfette said, realizing what Hefty was trying to say. "I promise to be a gentlesmurf with you, Smurfette, but if you won't smurf along, I might as well just let smurf what I know, and then you'll never smurf any peace with yourself and your genie," Hefty said. Smurfette began to passionately hate Hefty with every fiber of her being. "Hefty Smurf, you are truly despicable if you think I would smurf out with you just to keep your mouth shut!" she fumed. "So you're saying no?" Hefty said. "I'm truly disappointed, and really hurt. Though not as much as you're going to be when this becomes public news." Smurfette could feel herself burning with anger. She got up and left the counter, taking the bouquet with her and dumping it into a barrel as she left the tavern. Tapper returned with Hefty's drink order. "Great Smurfiny Crickets, what has happened to our dear Smurfette tonight?" Tapper wondered. "I don't know, Tapper," Hefty said as he took his drink. "Maybe she just couldn't handle my charming personality tonight. She'll smurf over it."
Smurfette headed straight to her house, looking like she was going to explode if anybody tried to stop her. Most of the Smurfs still outside at the time gave her wide berth and allowed her to continue on her way uninterrupted. Ghinelle was there waiting for Smurfette when she arrived, watching her mistress slam the door before she sat down on her couch, burying her face in her hands as she started to cry. "Aw, sweetheart, what's the matter with you tonight?" Ghinelle said, trying to sound comforting. "It's that Hefty Smurf," Smurfette said in her sobbing. "He's trying to force me into smurfing you a secret if I would smurf out with him tonight." "But that's a good thing, isn't it?" Ghinelle said. "At least he wouldn't tell anyone about us if he knows about us." "But now he is going to tell everyone about us, and I can't handle what's going to smurf up next," Smurfette said. "I didn't smurf him what he wanted." "So now what are you going to do?" Ghinelle asked. Smurfette shook her head. "I don't know. But smurf help me, I could wish that Hefty would know what it would be like to be a Smurfette for a day, so that he would understand just what he tried to smurf with me." "A Smurfette for a day?" Ghinelle said. "As in an entire day, from sunup to sundown." "I don't want you to literally fulfill that wish, Ghinelle," Smurfette said. "I just want him to understand how he has hurt me, that's all." Ghinelle watched as Smurfette went to her room. "Well, I don't like seeing Smurfette get hurt by any Smurf, so I'm just going to fulfill her wish anyway, to give that troublemaker what he deserves," she quietly said to herself.
The night passed by without any incident. But then came the morning, and Hefty woke up, feeling that something about him was different. "Oh, what a night that was," he said before he realized that his voice was changed to that of a female. He also felt something strange happened to his body. He went to the mirror and saw himself, and was instantly horrified. The Smurfs in the vicinity of Hefty's house heard him scream as he looked at himself in the mirror. They soon saw Hefty rush out of his door, looking very odd as if he was in the process of undergoing a *** change. He had short blond hair growing on his head, and his chest was, to put it in polite terms, certainly ample. "PAPA SMURF! PAPA SMURF!" Hefty cried out as he banged on his door early in the morning. Papa Smurf slowly got himself out of bed to answer the door. His eyes suddenly flashed wide open when he saw Hefty in his current state. "Great Smurfs of Fire, what has happened to you, Hefty?" Papa Smurf asked as he let Hefty come inside. "It's terrible, Papa Smurf!" Hefty said. "When I smurfed up this morning, I heard my voice suddenly change, and when I smurfed myself in the mirror, everything else about me has changed! I'm now a Smurfette, or some kind of cross between a Smurf and a Smurfette!" "You're a Smurfette?" Papa Smurf said, not believing what he was hearing. "How did this happen all of a sudden?" "I don't know, but I would smurf anything that it's that genie that Smurfette keeps in her house with her, Papa Smurf," Hefty said. "I feel so embarrassed smurfing like this, I don't know what to do." "Just calm down, Hefty," Papa Smurf said, trying to keep himself contained so as not to inadvertently laugh at Hefty's new appearance. "I'm sure we can figure something out here, when I get a chance to talk to Smurfette this morning." "I feel so violated smurfing like this," Hefty said, sighing as if that was the last thing he ever wanted to deal with. Soon Empath and Polaris came into Papa Smurf's house. "This smurf sensed something has happened to Hefty this morning, Papa Smurf," Empath said. "And Hefty's new cross-gendered appearance seems to have happened overnight while he was sleeping," Polaris said. "I don't want to have to scold Smurfette for letting her genie smurf this, Empath, but I'm afraid we have no choice," Papa Smurf said. "Go bring Smurfette over here immediately so we can resmurf this matter once and for all." "This smurf acknowledges, Papa Smurf," Empath said.
Smurfette arrived at Papa Smurf's house to see what had happened to Hefty. "Oh my smurfness, who smurfed this to you, Hefty?" Smurfette asked, her heart going out to him. "I think you know very well who it was, Smurfette," Hefty said in an accusatory tone. "You made her smurf this to me because of how I acted toward you last night." "Well, I didn't intend for Ghinelle to smurf this to you, Hefty, but if this is going to smurf you a lesson, then so be it!" Smurfette said. "So now you don't care if I smurf like this forever!" Hefty said. "I would not have this be smurfed to you forever, Hefty!" Smurfette said. "Then get Ghinelle to smurf me back the way I am right now!" Hefty said. "Then you apologize for how you treated me last night!" Smurfette said. "Hefty, Smurfette, stop!" Papa Smurf ordered. "I didn't have you be smurfed in here so you can argue in front of me." "Hefty smurfed this upon himself because he was trying to force me into smurfing Ghinelle a secret by smurfing out with him, or else he would tell everybody," Smurfette said. "Is this true, Hefty Smurf?" Papa Smurf asked. "Answer me!" Hefty looked rather guilty, realizing he was better off telling the truth than lying in front of Empath and Polaris. "Yes, Papa Smurf, it is true. And I'm truly sorry for what I had smurfed last night." "I'm not the one you need to apologize to, Hefty," Papa Smurf reminded him. Hefty turned to Smurfette, looking rather pitiful. "Smurfette, could you please forgive me for what I tried to smurf with you?" Hefty asked. "If I forgive you, will you promise to keep your mouth smurfed about Ghinelle?" Smurfette asked. "Yes, I will, Smurfette, cross my hearts and hope to smurf," Hefty answered. Smurfette sighed. "Very well. I'm going to speak to Ghinelle about this and see if I can't have her smurf you back to the way you were, Hefty." "Thank you, Smurfette," Hefty said, feeling relieved. Empath and Polaris both watched as Smurfette left Papa Smurf's house. "This smurf doesn't know if this smurf should feel sympathy for what Hefty has gone through or vindicated that he got what was coming to him," Empath said. "This one does empathize with Smurfette in this situation, Empath, but this isn't exactly how this one would handle the situation in the first place," Polaris said. "Having a genie around to dole out that kind of punishment does seem rather handy, but this smurf fears what would happen if Ghinelle were to do this to every Smurf that crosses Smurfette in some way," Empath said. "Then we need to make sure that Smurfette can keep Ghinelle in check during those times when she may feel slighted by her fellow Smurfs," Polaris said.

Chapter 5
Smurfette returned to her house and cried out, "GHINELLE!" Ghinelle popped up immediately. "Yes, mistress, I'm right here," she said. "Tell me, Ghinelle, did you turn Hefty into a Smurfette when I was upstairs sleeping?" Smurfette asked, sounding very upset. "Of course I did!" Ghinelle said. "I know you commanded me not to, but I saw how hurt you were by Hefty last night, and I couldn't let him hurt you again like that, so I took care of the problem." "You shouldn't have disobeyed me when I said that I didn't want him to be literally turned into a Smurfette!" Smurfette said sternly. "Now I want you to turn Hefty back to normal right now or else I swear that I will..." "Calm down, mistress, I didn't mean to make you upset!" Ghinelle said, sounding rather defensive. "Here, I'll just wave my arms and give him back his old appearance. See? No harm done!" She waved her hands in the air and said, "Perfuma performa!" "You're going to have to stay here and promise that you won't smurf anymore wishes unless I specifically tell you to, because if you disobey me again, I'm going to smurf you back inside your bottle and smurf you downstream," Smurfette said. "Oh, please, mistress, don't send me away!" Ghinelle said, sounding like she was ready to cry. "I don't want to be imprisoned anymore in that bottle! I promise that I will be a good little girl genie! I won't ever disobey you!" Smurfette felt her heart going out to Ghinelle when she saw how miserable the genie was becoming. "Okay, Ghinelle, I forgive you this time. We just have to find out how we're going to keep you safe and out of other Smurfs' reach while you're here with me." "Oh, I promise you that hardly a Smurf is going to know about me other than the ones who already do," Ghinelle said, sounding grateful. Meanwhile, unnoticed by Smurfette, Farmer was outside peering through her window at what was going on inside, with Gourdy floating nearby trying to get a good look himself. "Great mother of Smurf, I do be thinking that our sweet Smurfette has smurfed herself a girl genie," Farmer said. "Oh no!" Gourdy said. "This can't happen! We're already doomed!" "What do you mean, we're already doomed?" Farmer asked, sounding curious. "Each time she uses her powers, she opens a hole through which the Dark Jinn can enter our world, and neither of us by ourselves will be able to stop it," Gourdy said. "Dark Jinn? What are they like...evil genies?" Farmer asked. "They're much worse than genies, master," Gourdy said. "They will enter our realm and consume everything that is in it until there's nothing but complete total darkness. That's how bad these Dark Jinn are." "Then we better tell Papa Smurf about it before it's too late," Farmer said as they headed for his laboratory. Meanwhile, in the spot where Farmer and Gourdy were once standing, a dark hole opened, and black ghostlike spirits came pouring out of it, spreading out to various places around the village.
At the breakfast table, Empath was talking to Sassette. "So what happened to Hefty this morning, Empath?" she asked. "All I heard was screaming, but that's all I know." "Hefty is fine, Sassette," Empath said. "She...I mean he has just been affected by Ghinelle's magic that was cast upon him while he was sleeping." "You mean Ghinelle did that to Hefty?" Sassette said. "Prancing peacocks, I sure hope more Smurfs don't smurf anything to make that little genie upset." "Well, let's not worry too much about Hefty now, Sassette," Empath said. "He'll be back to his old self in no time at all." "I had no idea Smurfette even had a genie until Sassette smurfed us, Empath," Nat said. "Yeah, but we sure aren't going to smurf it to anyone else now that we know," Slouchy said. "That just isn't fair!" Snappy said. "Farmer and Smurfette now have genies, and we don't! How can we be so unlucky?" "Snappy, we're trying to smurf this between ourselves so that Smurfette doesn't get smurfed with so many requests for her genie fulfilling wishes," Nat said. "Would you want Smurfs to be bothering you day and night if you did have a genie?" Slouchy asked. "I wouldn't care, because I would smurf one of my very own, and he or she would fulfill all my wishes and anyone else's if they want one fulfilled," Snappy said. "Well, that's probably the reason that we don't smurf a genie of our very own, Snap," Nat said. Tapper and Duncan then joined Empath. "Great Smurfiny Crickets, I get a sense in my spirit that something evil has been unsmurfed upon us in the village, but I have no idea of what it was," Tapper said. "Ah, there he smurfs again, with one of those things he can sense in the spirit," Duncan said. "I don't know what exactly he's smurfing about, but I smurf that it can't be good, whatever it is." "Come to think of it, this smurf is also sensing something rather dangerous in the village, a rather dark presence," Empath said. "Wrestling wombats, Empath, what could that be?" Sassette asked. Before Empath could answer, Greedy and his kitchen staff came fleeing out of the kitchen. "Smurf for your lives!" Greedy cried out. "Something evil has smurfed over our kitchen!" Empath and Polaris both got up to see for themselves. There in the kitchen they could see dark ghostlike figures doing all sorts of malevolent things in the kitchen, using the various utensils and appliances as their weapons. Empath and Polaris both ducked back behind the door when a bunch of kitchen knives came flying towards them, with only one piercing right through the door. "Great Ancestors!" Polaris exclaimed. "It appears that this kitchen is now being haunted by evil spirits." "But where are these spirits coming from, and what's causing them to appear?" Empath asked. "This one does not know, but we should protect our fellow Smurfs from whatever it is that's now terrorizing us," Polaris said.
Smurfette was still in her house with Ghinelle when they now heard screams coming from outside. "Oh dear, what in Smurf's name is going on?" Smurfette asked. She peered through her window and saw that the village was filling with dark ghostlike figures that were scaring the Smurfs and causing them to flee in various directions. Handy was being chased by his own threshing machine, which a dark figure was operating. Brainy was being chased by a book that had grown teeth and was trying to bite him. The village seemed to be filled with chaos. "Ghinelle, we're being attacked by dark spirits!" Smurfette cried out. "I was afraid this would happen," Ghinelle said, sounding guilty. "All these things are my fault." "Your fault? But how?" Smurfette asked. "When two genies are in a close vicinity with each other, it opens a rift between our world and that of the Dark Jinn, who want to consume the world of light and all that is in it," Ghinelle explained. "My magic may be causing that rift to open without me even knowing it. I'm sorry." "You mean you can't be here if Gourdy is also here?" Smurfette asked. "I'm afraid so, sweetheart," Ghinelle said. "I could sense his spirit being here by the time you opened up my bottle in this village, but he isn't even using his powers. I wouldn't think he would do that for anyone, because he was always eager to do that for whoever his master was." "There's got to be a way that we can close the rift, is there?" Smurfette asked. "It's possible that me and Gourdy can use our powers together to seal the rift and draw the Dark Jinn back into their own world, but he would have to be willing to use his powers along with me if it's going to succeed," Ghinelle said. "Then we have no choice, Ghinelle," Smurfette said. "We've got to find Farmer and Gourdy to smurf up that rift!" "I'll join you in finding them, mistress," Ghinelle said as they both bravely stepped out of the house to find Farmer and Gourdy.
Papa Smurf was in his house when he heard banging on his door. "PAPA SMURF! PAPA SMURF!" He opened the door to find that it was Farmer and Gourdy. "What seems to be the problem today, Farmer?" he asked. "Smurfette do be having a genie in her house, and it be causing a lot of trouble outside right now, Papa Smurf," Farmer said. Papa Smurf looked through his window and saw his little Smurfs being chased around here and there by dark ghostlike figures. "Great Smurfness, what are those things?" Papa Smurf asked. "Those are the Dark Jinn, Papa Smurf," Gourdy answered. "They came through a rift that has opened somewhere in the village to consume the world of light and all that is in it." "But how is it that this rift opened?" Papa Smurf asked. "It's that other genie that is in the village, Papa Smurf," Gourdy said. "It is using her powers while I am present in the village, and two genies cannot occupy the same space together or that will happen." "We smurfed to you because we figured you would be able to help us with this problem, Papa Smurf," Farmer said. "Well, I may know a little about how this Dark Jinn rift can be sealed, Farmer," Papa Smurf said. "It would require both genies to use their powers together at the same time." "Great mother of Smurfs, it be that simple to do, Papa Smurf?" Farmer said. "Then we need to find Smurfette and Ghinelle and fast." "Follow me, Farmer and Gourdy," Papa Smurf said as they bravely left the house and headed off to find Smurfette and Ghinelle.
Meanwhile, Empath, Polaris, Hefty, and Duncan found themselves overwhelmed by the sheer number of Dark Jinn that have surrounded them. "Fighting them is entirely useless," Empath said, watching as his fists fail to connect with a Dark Jinn. "These creatures are like phantoms." "Even our telepathic abilities are of no use against them, Empath," Polaris said. "Not exactly the kind of battle I want to be smurfing today, laddies," Duncan said. "Whatever the outcome, we're smurfing our ground here," Hefty said, doing his best in a futile situation. Jokey found himself being chased down by a serious of endless explosions. "This just isn't what I would call funny!" he cried out. "I hate these dark creatures," Grouchy said as he ran from a Dark Jinn.
Soon Smurfette and Ghinelle met up with Papa Smurf, Farmer, and Gourdy as they intersected with each other in the middle of the village. "Thank Smurfness we found you and Gourdy, Papa Smurf," Smurfette exclaimed. "The same here, Smurfette," Farmer said. "Now we need to have the two genies work together to get this rift sealed," Papa Smurf said. "Me, work with this annoying pest? Never!" Gourdy said. "I never liked you the first time I ever laid eyes on you!" Ghinelle said. "All you're good for is spraying your perfume all over the place, Easter bunny!" Gourdy said. "And you can't even get your magic spells right, raccoon eyes!" Ghinelle said. "So you want to fight about it? Let's have at it!" Gourdy said. "Yeah, let's have at it!" Ghinelle said. "Genies, stop!" Smurfette cried out. "Your masters are going to be devoured by the Dark Jinn if we don't close up the rift." "You do be hearing Smurfette," Farmer said. "I wish you to work together with Ghinelle, even if you don't like her." "And I wish the same for you, Ghinelle, because you're my friend, and Gourdy is my friend too," Smurfette said. "Yes, masters," both Gourdy and Ghinelle said together. "Why are we fighting when we can work as friends?" Ghinelle said. "That would mean one of us will have to leave this village for good," Gourdy said. "We'll decide that once this situation is taken care of, won't we?" Ghinelle said. "At the very least, that is something I can agree on," Gourdy said. And then at the same time, Gourdy said, "Casabah cadodah," while Ghinelle said, "Perfuma performa," as they waved their hands in the air. At that instant, the Dark Jinn reacted as if somebody had turned on a supernatural vacuum cleaner. They all felt themselves being pulled back into the rift by an irresistible force, drawing them all together from all corners of the Smurf Village until the very last one was pulled in. And in an instant, the rift sealed itself up and vanished. The Smurfs all relaxed when everything returned to normal. Empath, Polaris, Hefty, and Duncan lowered their fists when they saw that all the Dark Jinn were gone. "Okay, can somebody tell me what just happened?" Hefty asked. "This one can sense that the rift that had opened in the Smurf Village is now sealed, and that the Dark Jinn were drawn back into the rift before its closure, Hefty," Polaris said. "Whatever it is, laddies, I'm glad that we're still in one piece," Duncan said. "And this smurf can sense that it is all because of the two genies working together," Empath said. Meanwhile, in the center of the village, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, and Farmer saw that the two genies were floating around with each other, looking like they were happy knowing that they had just saved the Smurf Village together. "You know, you're not too bad for a girl genie, Ghinelle," Gourdy said. "I'm glad that you were able to help me, because I couldn't do it without you, Gourdy," Ghinelle said. "But what are we going to do about the both of us being in the same village?" Gourdy asked. "Yeah, that's a good question," Ghinelle said. "I could leave, but I'm starting to become fond of Smurfette." "And I couldn't ever find myself leaving my master Farmer," Gourdy said. "Papa Smurf, what are we going to do if these two genies can't live in the same village together?" Smurfette asked. "I think that I may have the solution to that, Smurfette," Papa Smurf said.

Chapter 6
And so Empath, Polaris, Smurfette, and Farmer waited outside of Papa Smurf's laboratory while he did something with the two genies to keep them from causing another Dark Jinn rift to open. "What do you suppose Papa Smurf is doing with them, Empath?" Smurfette asked. "This smurf does not know exactly, Smurfette," Empath said. "But it has something to do with binding the two of them." "Binding?" Farmer asked, sounding confused. "But what does that mean exactly?" "This one's guess is as good as anyone's at this point, Farmer," Polaris said. "We won't know until Papa Smurf is finished with the both of them," Smurfette said, sighing. And then after what seemed like a long time, both Gourdy and Ghinelle returned outside to join their masters, with Papa Smurf following. "Gourdy, what did Papa Smurf do to you?" Farmer asked, glad to see him again. "Are you all right, Ghinelle?" Smurfette asked as she received her little genie in her arms. "We're fine, Smurfette," Ghinelle said. "Papa Smurf just put these silver bracelets on our arms to prevent us from ever affecting each other." "Silver bracelets?" Farmer asked. "Gourdy, you be smurfing those too?" "I'm afraid so, master, but they're not as bad as you think," Gourdy said. "In fact, I personally think they're rather fashionable," Ghinelle said. "They certainly go well with our outfits, don't they?" "I didn't like having to smurf these bands on the genies, my little Smurfs, but they will smurf the purpose of keeping other dark rifts from forming," Papa Smurf explained. "You mean that we can keep you both in our village?" Smurfette asked. "And neither of you has to leave?" Farmer asked. "Exactly!" both Gourdy and Ghinelle said together. "We can still use our magic, master, but now we can't use our magic against each other," Gourdy explained. "And if we try, the bracelets will just render the magic ineffective, so there won't be anymore fights between us," Ghinelle said. "Well, that's certainly good news for both you and your masters," Empath said. "This smurf is certain that the whole village will also rest easy." "But what are you going to do now with your genie, Smurfette?" Polaris asked. "I think it's time that I stopped hiding her away from the other Smurfs, since she wants to meet them so much," Smurfette said. "Come, Ghinelle, let's go smurf with all my friends." "Yes, mistress, I'll come with you," Ghinelle said as she flew off and followed Smurfette. "I do believe it's time that I return to my smurfing in the fields," Farmer said. "Care to join me, Gourdy?" "Oh, yes, master, that's what I live for," Gourdy said, sounding eager. Empath, Polaris, and Papa Smurf watched as Farmer and Gourdy walked off together. "Well, Empath, Polaris, I'm certainly glad this situation of the two genies has been resmurfed peacefully," Papa Smurf said. "This smurf is pleased to see that this situation turned out for the best, Papa Smurf," Empath said. "But now that Smurfette has a genie, she may make good on having you be her personal servant whenever she wants you," Polaris said. "This smurf doesn't mind that, Polaris," Empath said. "As long as Smurfette doesn't have this smurf wear anything too embarrassing in public, this smurf can live with whatever Smurfette may ask Ghinelle for."
Sometime later on, Smurfette and Sassette found themselves lying on the beach near the riverside, dressed in swim clothes. "Oh, Smurfette, this is just wonderful weather to be smurftanning," Sassette said. "Yeah, but I think we could smurf another glass of smurfberry tea," Smurfette said. She then picked up a bell and rang it. "Empath!" Empath appeared before her, wearing nothing but a very skimpy pair of bathing briefs, carrying a tray with him. "What is your desire, Smurfette?" he asked. "Smurf me and Sassette another glass of smurfberry tea, please, and make sure the lemons are fresh," Smurfette said. "Your wish is my command, mistress," Empath said, bowing his head before he moved on to fulfill Smurfette's order. Ghinelle met Empath as he walked into the edge of the forest. "How long do I have to keep doing this for Smurfette?" Empath asked. "Just long enough until she's a nice dark shade of blue, gorgeous," Ghinelle said, waving her hands in the air and saying, "Perfuma performa," causing two glasses of smurfberry tea with a lemon slice in each to appear. Empath sighed. "Of all the things this smurf has to do in order to please Smurfette."
