On the bluebuddies website, he is black although I remember him being purple. I also remember a black variant of him as well, but he didn't say "GNAP", and he was in a different episode? [GNAP!]

the black smurf was how the GNAP smurf originally looked in the comics, but when it became a tv show it was changed to purple due to the racial implications of the comic version. hope this helps!

They were originally the Black Smurfs in the non-English Smurf comics. It was when Hanna-Barbera adapted the story into the 1980s cartoon show that they were changed to Purple Smurfs. The Papercutz English translation of the original story also changed them to purple.
