On the UK Smurf Collectors Club's Facebook page, they recently posted a picture of the 2013 pop-up storybook "Smurfette and the Beast", a Smurf version of "Beauty and the Beast". It gave me the idea for rewriting the Smurf fairy tale to include the TV and film Smurfs as a cute parody with a lot of fourth-wall breaking.
All the Smurfs are gathered around Narrator Smurf at the village theater as he tells the story, visualized in flashback style. Hefty is the selfish, boastful prince who is turned into The Beast; Tuffy, Gutsy and Handy are his equally he-man friends who abandon him after his beastly transformation; Nanny Smurf is the poor old widow who asks asks Hefty for help; and when Hefty rebuffs Nanny rather harshly ("Yeah, I can help you. I can help you with some advice--GET A JOB!"), she transforms into her true identity as Vexy, a lovely, dashing, abrasive and very sarcastic sorceress ("Houston, we have a problem... and it's YOU, Houston!") Brainy is the Gaston-like character from the Disney film and Clumsy is akin to Le Fou. Brainy is plotting to capture the Beast and sell him to the zoo. And Clumsy is actually the smarter one of the two because he's not full of himself.
The story is constantly interrupted by the Smurflings peppering Narrator with questions about what's happening and why. Even the in-character Smurfs in the story (in flashback) are interrupted, breaking the fourth wall and telling the Smurflings to be quiet and just listen.
Any thoughts?

How about Hackus as a crazy and funny Hefty-Beast's servant? You can see some scenes of the pop-up book here, and I also have a suggestion: how about adding something else inspired by this movie? For example, you can set your story in a different age from the original. Go for it, Richrod. I'm quite sure it shall be such a smurfy story! ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

I just can't see Brainy being a good fit for the character of Gaston. He may have the ego, but he just doesn't have the brawniness of Gaston.

Muito obrigado, Squeaky! The sample pics look like what I had in mind. However, the Smurf Beast would look more like a werewolf (or were-smurf), complete with a Wile E. Coyote-like snout and nose. And maybe roar like the MGM lion when he's angry.
Here's the story-within-a-story (so far) I have in mind for a new "Smurfette and the Beast":
- Hefty, The Prince of Smurf, is turned into The Beast by Vexy the Sorceress for being selfish, arrogant and not caring for others: "WHA-aat?!? I'm merely smurfing out what you really are on the inside--a great, big, hairy beast. And a noticeable improvement, if you should ask me."
Unless the Prince can change his ways and have somesmurf love him for who he is on the inside, he's stuck as a Beast for the rest of his life: "Oh, for at least the next thousand years or so, give or take half a century." ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) - Brainy tries to capture the Beast in order to win the affections of Smurfette, but has such an ego that he spends more time bragging about how proud Smurfette will be of him than actually pursuing the Beast.
- When the Beast offers Smurfette his library as a gift, she notices that most of the books are written by Prince Hefty, about Prince Hefty. Breaking out of character, Smurfette smirks "Hmmph! You sure Brainy didn't write these?" "I heard that!" Brainy shouts from off-camera. "I'm gonna tell Papa Smurf on you for smurfing fun of me in this story!"
![[Wink]](wink.gif) - The Smurflings interrupt Narrator's storytelling: "Narrator, why was the Prince of Smurf so mean?" "What kind of beast was he?" "Did the Beast have fleas?" "Stop, Narrator! Tell the Beast to leave Papa Smurf alone!" "Stop, Narrator! I have to smurf to the bathroom!"
