and I was just wondering what the purpose was for creating this? was it some sort of music to dance to?

This Smurfs theme song music video was created by Warner Home Video. It was included with the Smurfs Season 1 Volume 1 DVD as well as the promotional episode DVDs that came with some plush Smurf dolls.

The official name of this video is "The Smurf Theme" by Papa Smurfs And The Smurfs. The music is a remix of the original Hanna Barbera song and also includes sound effects.
