The Smurfs meet the Guardians of Childhood
Once upon a time, in an enchanted forest, in Smurf Village, there lived the Smurfs. One late autumn afternoon, Papa Smurf gathered all the Smurfs together to tell stories around the circle. Papa told the Smurfs a story about the Guardians of Childhood. There was Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman. Although their jobs include delivering toys, trading children’s teeth for coins, hiding eggs and bringing dreams; their real purpose is protecting the children, thus believing. They protect children from Nightmares, and their nemesis: Pitch, the boogeyman. Clumsy Smurf loved the story of the Guardians and likens every Smurf with a matching personality of each Guardian: Papa Smurf as Santa Claus, Brainy as the Easter Bunny, Smurfette as the Tooth Fairy. Then he tells the other Smurfs if they can meet them. “Papa Smurf”, said Clumsy. “Can we find the Guardians and tell them all about the adventures they have?” Papa thought for a moment. “Well,” he said, “I don’t see why not.” So Papa searched out a map to the Guardians. “Once in a lifetime, the Moon is full, and shines down on a Great Oak Tree, where the Guardians gather every Winter Solstice. So we follow the path to the Great Tree, and then when the Moon shines down the tree at twilight, then that’s when the Guardians appear.” So Papa selected Smurfette, Brainy, Clumsy and Gutsy to travel to the Great Oak Tree. First, they trekked on the top of the stone wall to the Willow Tree where the Unicorn sleeps, then guided by the unicorn; they crossed a Rainbow Bridge to the ancient Castle with a pretty garden. And soon, they reached the ancient circle of Stones to the riverbank, and there, they built a raft to sail down the river to the Great Oak. Along the way, they saw trees in bright autumn colors and odd stones shaped like bears and tigers and wolves by the riverbank. Then they saw blue willow trees covered in icicles growing by the riverbank. And after seeing a bear catching fish, they reached the path to the Great Oak. It was twilight, and they made it to the Great Oak. They waited, until the Moon hovered and shone above the tree. Then an amazing thing happened; multicolored sparkles shone on the leaves and the branches, and soon, wind blew the sparkles in all directions, until the colors separate from each other to 5 individual balls of light. And soon the colored balls morph and take shape into each shape: first, a golden yellow ball of light morphed into a swirling ball of glistening golden sand, and soon the ball morphed into a short sleepy little man in a golden robe with ridges of sand dunes you see in the beach or in the desert, with wispy yellow hair and a round face: The Sandman; then a pink ball morphed into a pink diamond, which then swirled into a million hummingbird-like fairies swarming around the diamond till the diamond transforms into a beautiful lady who like the fairy is half-human and half-hummingbird: The Tooth Fairy; then a green ball of light morphed into a green triangle which sinks into the earth and a hole appears in its place, and out jumps a 6’ 1’’ rabbit: Bunnymund / the Easter Bunny.; a red ball of light morphs into a box and into a magical present, and out come 3 elves and a big barrel-armed man in red with a snow white beard, and a black fur-trimmed red coat, with a matching Russian black fur-cap: North / Santa Claus. Finally the blue ball of light transformed into a blue, silver and white hexagon and into a snowflake which spins like top turning itself into a blizzard and swilling itself into a white snow tornado, until out comes a silvery white haired boy in a blue sweatshirt and carrying a staff shaped like a shepherd’s crook: Jack Frost. The Smurfs grew amazed, entranced by the Guardians’ entrance. “I am here, Papa Smurf” spoke North in his tough Russian accent, “What is it you want from me?” Papa answered, “I am Papa Smurf, and these are my Smurfs. We came to see you and to know about your adventures.” North then told his tale: “ Not so long ago, the Bogeyman, Pitch disrupted the beliefs of the Guardians. It was a crucial time when he smites all dreams, all hopes and all wonder and memories with Fear. The Man in the Moon then announced that our newest Guardian, Jack Frost can help us restore all dreams, all hopes and all wonder and memories to all the children.” Jack Frost then spoke, “At first, I didn’t feel like being the Guardian, because I feel like snow days and fun times, instead of hard work and deadlines. But North asked me what my center was. It was an eternal question I ever want to know, but Tooth had the Memories stored in the children’s teeth and the answers were in mine from long, long ago. That’s where my truth lies: I am the Guardian of Fun.” Clumsy gasped. “You were the Guardian of Fun?!” “Yes, yes I am”. Answered Jack. “Wow.” Said Clumsy. “So, how did you stop Pitch?” asked Smurfette. “I have the capabilities to stop the Nightmares with the children believing in Jack Frost and with his help, we successfully defeated Pitch with our friends.” “Smurf-zactly!” said Brainy. “Did you become the Guardian of Fun in the end?” asked Papa. “Yes,” answered Jack. “Now,” said North, “What is it you want from the Guardians?” Clumsy answered, “Could you sing the song, you know, from the time when Pitch took away all the belief in the world and replaced them with fear and darkness, and you desperately told the children to help Jack Frost believe? Remember?” “If that is what you wish,” responded North, “Of course, young Smurfs.” So Sandy conjured a beautiful display of their experiences and their realms in his glittering dreamsand. And as the Smurfs watched the display, the Guardians sang from their hearts about dreaming and believing. They sang about their fantasies and the hopes and wonders in the dreams, they sang about that if children still believe in the Guardians, they will be protected and be safe from Pitch and his nightmares. The song was so true, the voice so beautiful, and the music so moving, that the Smurfs felt so good about the dreams and their imaginations. When the song ended, the Smurfs were given a present from the Guardians: Papa got a Smurf Matrioska doll that reminds him of each Smurf who has the same personality as each Guardian as well as a snowglobe; Brainy got a jade and emerald egg that works as a kaleidoscope; Smurfette got a Smurfling-tooth-charm bracelet; and Clumsy got a snowflake amulet. The Smurfs were happy with their gifts from the Guardians that Sandy pointed to the North Star. “This will be where you can find your way home that follows my heart there, and beyond, and back again. Remember us in our dreams.” Said North. “I will.” Said Papa. “Time will tell,” said Tooth, “and if any trouble occurs, look into your memories in your Smurfling teeth, and remember what makes you happy.” “I promise.” Said Smurfette. The Guardians waved goodbye and the Smurfs waved back as they walked homeward bound to Smurf village. As they left, Sandy illuminated a path to Smurf Village with dreamsand, and bid the Smurfs a silent good night as they reached home. The Smurfs went to bed with their own dreams conjured by Sandy and the first snow fell into Smurf Village as Jack Frost watched the dreams and the Smurfs who were dreaming. And so ends the tale, until another time.
THE END

Rise Of The Guardians is interestingly confusing for a movie title, given that it was released only within a few years after Legend Of The Guardians, which was a story about owls.

I know, VicGeorge, but this movie is different, because it refers to Childhood Figures of myths and legends such as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost. Think Avengers. Here's more info. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446192/

Yeah, I know. I also know that Legend Of The Guardians is based on a book series. It's just that when you see movie sequels and remakes, suspiciously similar titled movies could be mistaken for such. The only hope Hollywood has is that the moviegoing public isn't very keen to notice that there was a CGI-animated children's movie with the title Guardians in it that was previously released, and either that they would forget about the previous movie or be confused enough by the similar titles to give the latest Guardians-titled movie a go.

Mm-hmm. Because one time, Ray Harryhausen was working on a movie based on Greek Mythology: "Jason & the Golden Fleece". When the Italians made a muscleman picture of the same name, Ray decided to change it to what we now know as "Jason & the Argonauts". Another title confusion was James Cameron's "Avatar" and M. Night Shamalayan's version of Nick's TV show: "Avatar: the Last Airbender". And then there was a 1973 sci-fi movie called "Soylent Green". It was based on the book: "Make Room! Make Room!" When the producers changed the title, it was because Movie goers will mistake it for the movie version of the classic TV show: "Make Room for Daddy". And between Guardians and owls, there's another title with Rise in it: "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." So remember to avoid confusion. And I hope you enjoyed my story!

For those of you who wish to hear the end credit song, and to know the song that I used in the fanfic, here's the lyrics plus a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTy0sOb3nsI
Still Dream (from “Rise of the Guardians”) Performed by Renée Fleming
Time to close your eyes, overlook the Darkness And try to dream tonight Not so long ago, your world was bright So, take a breath and count to ten And maybe you can dream again Still dream, and all the wonder that you knew Will all come flying back to you. If you remember all the hope you left behind, Open up your heart and change your mind. Oh, what you’ll find if you still dream.
Fly away beyond the moon A place you’ve been before Castles made of sand, the golden shore And every wish you ever made Is marching in a dream parade. Dream and dream again. Do you remember building bridges in the air? Every hope you had and every prayer; They’re all still there if you dream! Oh, what you’ll find if you dream Time to close your eyes, But when you awake Still dream…

The Smurfs cartoon show does have Mr. Nicholas as Santa Claus, Jack Frost in "Smurfquest", two Tooth Fairies, and a Sandman. The only thing it's missing is the Easter bunny.

Well, sometimes the Guardians look different, and sometimes, they have appeared in the Smurfs' anthology. Perhaps they'll do the Easter Bunny eventually.
